Thank you, Rachel, for talking about panic attacks in such a detailed and personal way. As someone who has also suffered in the past with panic attacks/panic disorder it’s helpful to hear other people talk about it honestly. I feel those who haven’t experienced them, very often have no idea what they’re about ❤
Mash Report needs to come back. It was a tremendous show.
Saw Rachel live in the Glee Club in Cardiff a year or two back and she was fantastic!
I agree! Also that show with the 'QI Elves' (forgot the name). It was beyond low budget, but had its brilliant moments.
Panic attacks are really scary, especially if you don't know what it is. Thankfully I have them very rarely these days. It's great that she's really open about them. What a lovely lass!
Rob Brydon is a delight! It doesn’t matter who he interviews, he gets the best out of his guests
I've had panic attacks, during a rough period in my life and I thought I was going to die !! It's horrible. I got dumped by the girl I was seeing at the time and I was in hospital having had a nervous breakdown. Despite going to A&E several times thinking I was about to croak, the staff doing an ECG and telling me I was fine, it's anxiety and panic causing it, I didn't believe them. Even paid for a private meeting with a cardiologist who said the same, the difference being was that he said, when you can feel one coming on, sit down, relax, close your eyes and take a long slow deep breath in and then exhale slowly through your mouth, this slows down your heart rate. It works.
Lovely to listen to Rachel being herself. Always enjoy her on TV, and in her internet sketches with Marcus, but as with many celebrities it's great to see the relatively normal human side 😊
Really enjoyed that.
Favourite moment listening to RP was on Clue, when she had blown the audience away with a perfect musical number. Jack Dee's deadpan response: "You might have made an effort, Rachel".
Panic attacks are terrible. They weren't talked about when I was young so I was left to manage them myself. What I found helps are breathing exercises and meditation. You need to stop going into fight or flight mode. Mental and emotional 'stuff' builds up and you eventually snap. They can then become a regular response with certain triggers. I had them for years but there is hope the mind and body can change in its responses. I don't have them now and I haven't had one for years.
Never heard panic attacks described this way before. I’ve always put my ‘episodes’ down to being a bit manic, or depressed but it’s definitely panic attacks. Waking up in the morning with an immediate sense of panic and dread is awful. I’m on Mirtazipine for my anxiety and on the higher dose it made my symptoms much worse, reducing my dose without horrible side effects was difficult but think I’m at the right level now :) thanks Rachel and Rob
Rachel has that amazing bad-news-smile that Susan from I’m Alan Partridge used to great effect. (was Susan an influence, I wonder, on her Nish-bullying persona on Mash?)
ROB!!! I am South African who has been entertained by you for most of my life. Would I lie to you is the greatest show ever, and I just found your channel, Im excited enough to come and leave a comment. This is fantastic.. Im about to digest every video you've put out. I consider you one of the greatest figures in this space.
Rachel has always felt like a ray of sunshine to me... I had a panic attack in an MRI machine once, not fun, feeling that out of control etc!
A part of me hopes her relationship will explode and she will need to run away to a far away land (NZ) and fall in love with a tall stranger (Me)...he he... But I just hope she is happy and produces more wonderful content!
Late night mash... Didn't even know about it, so sounds like a promotion problem, not the host!
Thanks for the book promo! Just bought it and can't wait to read it! Love from WA, US!
I have been a fan of Rachel since her Oxford Imp days.
Thank you both for an excellent interview. Thanks Rachel for being so open and honest.
I've only had 1 panic attack in my life but it made me quit university. Just the stress of not knowing what to write & the fear of failure but thinking you had to do write it. It just showed me that nothing is worth the stress of struggerling to breath. Even if I had another go at uni 2 years later. I just wasnt ready as I didnt really understand structure and how to research things effectively.
I really wanted a career in media as a camera man but ended up in the civil service which at least im glad I dont have to work night shifts or weekends and know its stable rather than dependant on how well your tv show does. So in a way it probably worked out for me even if not as glamorous of a job.
The irony of of being a camera man is no writing is really involved whereas in the civil service I'm writing almost all day every day.
Two great humans at work here!
Relaunch the Mash Report but rebrand it as the Parris Treaty
i cant think of marcus without remembering his reenactment of Boudicca battle vs Romans using shopping trolleys in an ASDA carpark...
Love these podcasts from Sydney Australia Rob Brydon :):):)
Lovely Lady Just bought her book !
So did I, she has such amazing talent!
What a stunning thing of beauty!
What magician has enchanted Robs' bouffant to such heights of vivaciousness!
Bravo!!!
Rob does great interviews. When will he takeover Newsnight?
I like Rob, but he is a bit too passive-aggressive for Newsnight. That needs aggressive-aggressive.
She's so lovely 🌹😍
Rachel Parris for Taskmaster!
Really interesting conversation, and kudos to Rachel for being so open about anxiety/panic attacks. However, I felt that Rob was being slightly tone-deaf here... sure, he's keen to keep the podcast "light", but a bit jokey in the wrong places IMHO. Also a little too much "tell me about your husband". Maybe this is down to the way it was edited from the longer version. Anyway, a good watch and I will see Rachel and Marcus in a very different light from now on.
You know they're both comedians, right? When Rob says he doesn't want to dwell on the subject, he's checking that she wants to continue. And they talk about their relationships (both their partners) because they're important parts of their lives. Frankly your comment just seems like more bizarre neurotypical projection.
I really want to read Marcus's book now if he has one out about his life?
A thing of beauty is a joy forev-(!)-WHATTHEHELLWASTHATHANDSHAKEOUTRO!? 😦
(😊)
I think Rachel would make a good actress. Ive seen her in bits and bobs but would be good to see her get a drama to show a gritty & emotional side to her. Bit like Daisy Haggard whos great at combining the two
I love Rachel, They should never have cancelled The Late Night Mash.
insightful stand up r the philosophers of our age...
Some of us consider it "precocious alcoholic"
Some of us consider it, in most cases, sad and tragic parental neglect.
Anyone else Google to see if there is a band called The Young Alcoholics? Just me then…
Are they the FOCAL THEVA NO. 1 monitors?
Macarons do not turn to dust. They deliquesce.
I went to the gym…
Lovely lady. Some superfluous 'likes' creeping in....
I could have done with about 50% less Marcus Brigstocke
What, a couple of minutes about ten minutes in and a bit at the end? They were both talking about their relationships. Maybe just watch animal videos?
Her solo bits to camera were excruciating on that terrible Mash thing. Good thing it got cancelled.
Why are you here?😂😂😂
