Lovely woman. I was at a movie premier about 15 years ago (I'm not famous, just worked for Warner Bros at the time) and she was one of the many celeb guests. As she glided through the crowd at the bar I was bit starstruck (had always been a fan since the New Avengers) and stared at her. She came straight over with a huge smile, shook my hand and said 'Hi, how are you, lovely to see you' and glided off. I was grinning for a week.
I used to sneak down the stairs at 8 years old to watch those 3 great characters in that show, Purdey was mesmerising. Going to rewatch the series, it had some great plots🙂
You sound braindead and totally unaware of what the world around you is!!! Fooled like a 5yr old kid. You are a part of the reason why this world is going down. Zero critical thinking and blind to boot.
What did I say? Mr or Ms Norman has hauled out that dull adage "national treasure". Can't we do better? "British Bulldog"? Not feminine enough for Ms Lumley, I hear you say. Dame Joanna ? That's IT !
Joanna is a fascinating, wonderful person who cares deeply about the world and its people. So refreshing to see someone so very famous and talented and brilliant as a humble, down-to-earth human being, wanting to make a lasting positive contribution to the planet and its life.
Absolutely Fabulous woman. Rob, you were born in 65 I was born in 55. Joanna was a dream that, of course, could never come true. I love the huskiness of her beautifully articulated words. She is a most beautiful woman.
Not sure why it made me smile hearing Rob say 'my friend' David Mitchell. They all have such great chemistry on Would I Lie that's it's nice knowing it's genuine
My first memories about Joanna Lumley was Sapphire & Steel tv-series. "All irregularities will be handled by the forces controlling each dimension. Transuranic heavy elements may not be used where there is life. Medium atomic weights are available: Gold, Lead, Copper, Jet, Diamond, Radium, Sapphire, Silver and Steel. Sapphire and Steel have been assigned". A great interview.
I watched it in the seventies, I was under ten. I'm still scared of the faceless man in the antique shop! And one of the spooky whistling tunes still echoes in my nightmares .. she was truly elemental ✨ 😊
I recently watched all the episodes again on ITVX. Definitely should have been a second series from the way it left us hanging. But still really good after all this time.
I'm an Australian and I will watch any documentary Joanna presents. Even when I am not particularly drawn to the topic, I still watch, because Joanna always makes it interesting!
Beautiful person. I was working at the opening of Maximes de Paris in London. Black tie. Hottest day of the year and no a/c. Joanna was there with Gareth Hunt (Mike Gambit in the Avengers) We interviewed them early on, but they spent most of the night in our area chatting away, It seemed they were more comfortable with us TV techs rather than the other celebs. I worked with her again at the Westway Studios and lunch was a BBQ in the atrium. She entertained the 5 of us throughout. Word perfect too
Joanna gave me goosebumps when she described the Beatles concert at the Hammersmith Odeon - I was there too !! not that I heard them, I was screaming too much!!
Loved Clatterford/Jam and Jerusalem and Joanna's character. It was fun watching her do a character part and just be able to chew it up. The woman is true CLASS!
OMG ! That's my thing! Music! You nailed it Joanna! See !! This woman! Finger ever on the pulse! Starving children! We Simply just Got to Have Music!! It is our first language !! Classless, Timeless, all cultures creeds, denominations And its Universal!!!!
A marvelous conversation between two of my favorite people! About the specificity of AbFab -- you're right about the desire to learn about the specifics. AbFab, Are You Being Served, Keeping Up Appearances, all of these programs taught Americans more about the UK than any course ever could. When I studied in London, I was much better prepared thanks to these shows. But enough of that -- I love this podcast.
She is such a wonderful person I can’t find the words to fully explain what she means to us considering how beautiful she is she has no pretensions whatsoever she has a heart of gold bless her,Rob gave a great interview he must’ve been overjoyed when he got that opportunity thanks Rob and Joanna ♥️♥️♥️💋
My wife comes from Sarikei in Sarawak. To get to the town in the 70’s we travelled by boat from Kuching. The road was built later. It’s a wonderful place to visit.
With reference to Joanna's comment about pop music is now just for the young, the difference in the Sixties, or at least with The Beatles, is that EVERYBODY, young and old, was somehow invested in this phenomenon. George put it best when he said, " We were on the front page of everybody's lives."
Watched her travel specials and is she so gracious. Her interest is genuine and thanks are so sincere. She truly enjoys herself and is grateful for the time spent.
Posh or upper class (by perception) people intimidate me and I have great difficulty to empathise with them, yet Joanna Lumley is class personified and comes across as very ordinary but in the best possible sense of the term, I think I mean she's delightful yet very grand
She is wonderful! I enjoyed watching her for years as Patsy Stone! I bought Ab Fab on DVD and still watch it. I wish Jam and Jerusalem had continued, and I wish she had stayed on longer with the series.
Lovely, lovely, lovely. Listening to an articulate woman who has great perspective is very humbling. I do recall watching the Wolf of Wall Street, and when Joanna Lumley appeared, I think I literally squealed with delight.
Such a lovely woman. Joanne exudes class. Having not seen her comedy you wouldn't think to guess that she is a comedy icon. I wish she'd deign to be on Countdown and WILTY. On to the next interview of her.
I loved Absolutely Fabulous!!! I am in US and only just found out what Harvey Nicks was yesterday by watching a vid on 9 top stores from the golden age.
Such a great interview Joanna is indeed a national treasure for England. I love everything she has ever been in, this interview is no exception to that. Great work Rob ❤
I’ve subscribed. Joanna Lumbley is a wealth of information; she’s a great storyteller! She is everything one imagines her to be and so much more. She is considerate and giving of herself. Thanks Rob for a great Interview. Will listen to the entire podcast now! I’m hooked.
Well she is just absolutely fabulous, I loved her as Purdey and Patsy and everything else she has done. I love the fact that she refers to the Hammersmith Odeon because I saw so many bands there and refused to call it anything else but that name. And she’s right about being starved of music is not just pop and rap it’s about all the other fantastic genres which I have been so lucky to have enjoyed over the last 60 odd years. A fantastic interview, thank you Rob
My first encounter with this lady was the 'Nimble Bread' adverts (1969, I believe), longer ago than I care to remember. I've been an admirer ever since!
I’ve only just discovered Brydon when a Richard Ayoade interview popped up in my recommended, and I must say… I saw Barbie Movie, he was PERFECTION, casted as “more seasoned Ken, but can we just say that Joanna Lumley is amazing in whatever she presents but that THIS encompasses her loveliness and charm and omg I’m tinkling!
Thank you for the delightful hour of meandering through life’s charming and soulful moments with yourself and Joanna. Being in NZ and with streaming available this makes it so easy to have access to these interesting tales. Being British descent on both parents side, it is an innate link to my upbringing and all of the lovely ,incredibly funny and sincere shows that we were lucky to be a part of and can forever treasure. For the life of me Graham Norton used to be on a T V channel here and I am finding it challenging to source that as it is … so this is much appreciated. I truly feel this era of culture/ talent/ like ability and sheer down to earth actors etc are getting to be shortly extinct… which is a shame.
Impossible not to love Joanna Lumley.
She is totally fabulous, absolutely wonderful.
My heart melted when she said she likes people, and simply likes it when people like her back. She is a more remarkable person than she realizes.
Joanna Lumley is one of the most sylish and beautiful women in the world. I could listen to her voice forever.
Wow....how lucky were you!
I used to sneak down the stairs at 8 years old to watch those 3 great characters in that show, Purdey was mesmerising. Going to rewatch the series, it had some great plots🙂
She just drips with intelligence, empathy, and great comedy nous.
And a whole lot of class.
I could listen to Joanna for hours. She's so classy, talented, funny and stunning all at the same time. Love her to pieces!
Me too!
Joanna Lumley is delightfully funny and humble. She is a precious jewel.
You sound braindead and totally unaware of what the world around you is!!! Fooled like a 5yr old kid. You are a part of the reason why this world is going down. Zero critical thinking and blind to boot.
A national treasure, without a shadow of a doubt.
What did I say? Mr or Ms Norman has hauled out that dull adage "national treasure". Can't we do better? "British Bulldog"? Not feminine enough for Ms Lumley,
I hear you say. Dame Joanna ?
That's IT !
Joanna made my day when she mentioned doing another travel show. Absolutely adore her. There are not enough positive adjectives for this fine person.
A sheer pleasure to hear her talk about how the sixtiies were for her and how the world around her was in those days.
Such a talented treasure, thats why we love her so much...
Joanna is a fascinating, wonderful person who cares deeply about the world and its people. So refreshing to see someone so very famous and talented and brilliant as a humble, down-to-earth human being, wanting to make a lasting positive contribution to the planet and its life.
Joanna Lumley is a class act in every sense of the phrase! Rob, you ain't bad either 😁
Absolutely Fabulous woman. Rob, you were born in 65 I was born in 55. Joanna was a dream that, of course, could never come true. I love the huskiness of her beautifully articulated words. She is a most beautiful woman.
I love this woman! Loved her as Patsy and her travel shows were a delight, she managed to make everyone fall in love with her wherever she went!
Not sure why it made me smile hearing Rob say 'my friend' David Mitchell. They all have such great chemistry on Would I Lie that's it's nice knowing it's genuine
Joanna Lumley.
What a fine example of a human being.
I love her.
My first memories about Joanna Lumley was Sapphire & Steel tv-series. "All irregularities will be handled by the forces controlling each dimension. Chemistry between Joanna and David was sublime.
I loved the programme, I didn’t completely understand it, but both actors did have a certain Magic
So much warmth, wisdom, lived experience... and only 5ish minutes in.
Great interview! Joanna is the very definition of a 'National Treasure'.
An amazing conversation with two of my favourite people. So refreshing to listen to folks without ego, nor plugging their latest book or film. ❤
I'm an Australian and I will watch any documentary Joanna presents. Even when I am not particularly drawn to the topic, I still watch, because Joanna always makes it interesting!
Me too!
Yes me too!!
Aussie! Aussie! Aussie ! Oi! Oi! Oi! Me too! She has oodles of charisma.
Ab Fab was the funniest program!! The two of them together was pure comedy gold!!
Beautiful person. I was working at the opening of Maximes de Paris in London. Black tie. Hottest day of the year and no a/c. Always loved Joanna. She's the best. Always a class act but never takes herself too seriously.
My love for Joanna grew when I saw her parodying herself on the Ruby Wax show. Says a lot about her character. Purdey you're a Legend ! 🙂
Could listen to her all day. Amazing person, so eloquent
Joanna gave me goosebumps when she described the Beatles concert at the Hammersmith Odeon - I was there too !! not that I heard them, I was screaming too much!!
You'll struggle to top that one Rob. National Treasure.
The term 'national treasure' gets thrown around a bit too much IMO. For Joanna it's an understatement as she's so far above it.
Lovely guest, could listen to her speak all day.
She's got such a gentle, kind and gracious quality about her........such a lovely lady!
What a beautiful Lady she is. Great interview. Cheers Rob.
One of God's greatest gifts to humanity - the lovely Joanna Lumley.
I LOVE Dame Joanna Lumley with ALL my heart!!! She IS and will ALWAYS be 'ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS'!!! 💖💖💖
When someone mentions ‘Beautiful people’ my mind always conjures up an image of Joanna Lumley
Loved Clatterford/Jam and Jerusalem and Joanna's character. It was fun watching her do a character part and just be able to chew it up. The woman is true CLASS!

My wife comes from Sarikei in Sarawak. To get to the town in the 70’s we travelled by boat from Kuching. The road was built later. It’s a wonderful place to visit.
Joanna is so talented and even more passionate! Her campaign to get more people reading is phenomenal.
Joanna is just one of those down to earth folks who I would never call old, she's ageless :)
She’s amazing. 1) Her voice - she MUST narrate a staunch British literature series 2) Her own show 3) Nasi Lamak
With reference to Joanna's comment about pop music is now just for the young, the difference in the Sixties, or at least with The Beatles, is that EVERYBODY, young and old, was somehow invested in this phenomenon. George put it best when he said, " We were on the front page of everybody's lives."
I loooooove Joanna Lumley. She is a beautiful human. Thank you so much for this.
Watched her travel specials and is she so gracious. Her interest is genuine and thanks are so sincere. She truly enjoys herself and is grateful for the time spent.
It is more of a promotional doc though. I prefer Simon Rimmer as he delves under the surface & finds the problems.
Ditto from me too!
You mean Simon Reeves..Rimmer is a chef
Lovely, lovely, lovely!!! What a gorgeous guest. Cheers, Rob. Merry Christmas.
Posh or upper class (by perception) people intimidate me and I have great difficulty to empathise with them, yet Joanna Lumley is class personified and comes across as very ordinary but in the best possible sense of the term, I think I mean she's delightful yet very grand
I saw her live in Blackpool in 2018 when she toured the one-woman show of her life. It was one of the best evenings ever.
Just a great chat…Joanna Lumley is a treasure.
Joanna Lumley, absolutely wonderful.
I thought she was absolutely fabulous.
Great voice lovely person great storyteller.
She is wonderful! I enjoyed watching her for years as Patsy Stone! I bought Ab Fab on DVD and still watch it. I wish Jam and Jerusalem had continued, and I wish she had stayed on longer with the series.
What a lovely Woman 👩 so down to earth and a great sense of humour.
I just love Rob and Joanna, and together, they are magic.🥰
Great interview with 2 of my fav celebs......love Joanna and Rob!
Joanna has the most wonderful soothing voice. An intelligent caring lady.
She’s just delightful
I loved Jam and Jerusalem. It had the biggest heart. It was so funny.
Lovely, lovely, lovely. Listening to an articulate woman who has great perspective is very humbling.
I do recall watching the Wolf of Wall Street, and when Joanna Lumley appeared, I think I literally squealed with delight.
Excellent interview, I love listening to Joanna's stories.
I could listen to her all day. Just love her. Ever since Ab Fab! Such a charming woman
What a brilliant conversation… I was… ‘captively enthralled’
My goodness, Joanna is 77 years old! You'd never guess.
One of your best interviews
The wonderful Joanna Lovely deserves every accolade, Robs is not bad either :)
She's UK furniture of the highest quality. Blessings on ya Joanna. 🙏🌻
An absolute delight. And interesting stories.
I love her and seeing her always reminds me of a dear friend that passed away a few years ago. He and I would always quote AbFab to each other.
So refreshing to see/hear kind people
Such a lovely woman. Joanne exudes class. Having not seen her comedy you wouldn't think to guess that she is a comedy icon. I wish she'd deign to be on Countdown and WILTY. On to the next interview of her.
I love her. And all of the social projects she got involved in, like the Gurgkas.
Loving these interviews. Thanks Robert.
What a breath of fresh air Joanna is,her speech is beautiful, such a delight ❤
National treasure; as interesting to listen to as the best of Rob's male guests, while retaining great femininity and huge charm.
Rob. You brings so much joy to my life.
May you continue to spread this wonderful gift. Blessings to you and all whom you love.
Joanna is beyond gorgeous. Always comes across with such an amazing heart!
I loved Absolutely Fabulous!!! I am in US and only just found out what Harvey Nicks was yesterday by watching a vid on 9 top stores from the golden age.
She is amazing. To think she was there in the 60's too!
Utterly delightful from beginning to end.
Such a great interview Joanna is indeed a national treasure for England. I love everything she has ever been in, this interview is no exception to that. Great work Rob ❤
Had no idea Rob had a podcast, how cool :) will definetly be watching these chats. He had me in stitches watching Graham Norton the other day.
Absolutely one of my earliest TV crushes (I was about 8 when The New Avengers arrived). Still love her.
She's pure class
That was a joy.
Oh, Joanna's voice. I could drown in it. I would even enjoy her criticizing me.
I’ve subscribed.
Joanna Lumbley is a wealth of information; she’s a great storyteller! She is everything one imagines her to be and so much more. She is considerate and giving of herself. Thanks Rob for a great Interview. Will listen to the entire podcast now! I’m hooked.
Phenomenal podcast. Rob, there are many “interesting” people in the world but few who are “interested.”
You are both.
Thank you
Very good. Some great ribbing back and forth. Two titans of light entertainment being pretty classy.
In our house she is called Joanna Luvley… I just love her.
I love Joanna to heaven and back and Rob too.... The two together pure bliss
I love to hear her voice, she sounds so lovely and kind
Well she is just absolutely fabulous, I loved her as Purdey and Patsy and everything else she has done. Graham Norton is on TV3 Thursday nights at 7.30 🤗
That was lovely, thank you!
What an absolutely fabulous babe❤❤❤
How FUN that Rob was 'Sugar Daddy Ken' in 'Barbie'! Iconic! 💖
