The asteroid base makes a lot of sense. With that level of technology it would be easy to hollow out a core to make a drydock, and then the asteroid would provide immense amounts of space for crew quarters, storage, etc, and would reduce the need for shielding against stellar radiation and the like.
As for the Akira, aside from Torpedo Pod, about the Frontal and Rear Hangars, where the Ship deploys a squadron of either Valkyrie or Peregrine-class Starfighters. That ship is both a Torpedo Boat and a Strike Wing Escort.
That was a really good little piece of CGI & just a ship launch. In one of the alternate timelines (where only Ensign Kim & (Lt. Cmdr.) Chakotay survive the Quantum Slipstream trip to Earth) the Challenger existed & was still in service in the future as a Galaxy-Class Starship, though. Given that it seems to me that if not a Galaxy-Class, a Nebula-Class or Sovereign Class would be more appropriate, that's just my personal taste, though. Good job & keep making awesome stuff though!
aha, mission pod makes sense. i was gonna criticize with 'the superglue dried very quickly' :) maybe a wee 'docking' animation like Enterprise-D saucer & drive sections would be cool.
Yea, the backstory is that it was an old Kirk era repair dock near the Neutral Zone that got repurposed. Challenger is a rapid response ship that's dispatched with different pods depending on the emergency or urgent mission.
Since you can expand the field around the ships to include near by objects and move them, like TNG moved the moon one time. Wouldn't it make sense considering the expense of engines to have a system, like a bus sort of, where using one set of engines you can take several "ships" to your destination. So those engines would have a basic crew running them and they would go back and forth between the same systems on a schedule. You have a small family ship or cargo and pay X amount and travel to next system without all the initial cost, repairs and learning needed to use a warp engine.
Anyone else think Pod 4 should be a hangar/module for a distinctively yellow version of the Odessy's support craft, Maybe with undersea capability....Too far? Apologies 😅 Love the idea and execution, thanks!
Awesome. That pod thing gave my some really strong Thunderbirds vibes and... I'm all for it.
Honestly, the first Akira I ever saw, I thought really was the USS Thunderbird! LOL!

The Akira is my absolute favorite Trek ship, and I love seeing animations of it. This was fantastic!
Beaut ships - I also love combat focus whilst STILL being an all-round science ship
I got a Tier 5U Heavy Escort Carrier in Star Trek Online and run it with the Akira skin.
it's surprising how well the music fits
Great use of the thunderbirds music
There is something about an Akira.... perfect.

Beautiful animation! I sure do like the Akira Class! I really wish we would have gotten to see more of them!

that's a Nebula pod next in line at #5
The mission pod selection on start up was fantastic. Would love to see how it looks with the Nebula style triangular array.

Excellent! Very nicely done. ❤
I thought I recognised the music, but then I looked at the pod, and now I wonder - What does a Starship need with a submarine?
Mission to Pacifica, resupply of deep underwater facility. It's too deep for transporters.
The rack of equipment pods is a cool concept... I assume that that asteroid is Challenger's permanent designated mooring spot.

@@jeremyjohnson4285 Thunderbirds are GO!
Gorgeous use of the Akira. Not enough animations of them out there
I hope they fixed the o-ring problems now.
Upgraded to magnetic seals. Too cold in space for O-rings.
(Too much)?
This is so fucking rad 🤘
Amazing!
Ok this looks really cool.
Maybe this ship should've been called the USS Thunderbird.

Please don't think I'm judging, because I'm not, this is fantastic. But isn't Challenger canonically a Galaxy class starship?
That was an alternate reality
Great VFX , but are qe to expect any GOOD Fan-Fic out of this ?
NOT intrested in overweight dress-up , but we NEED some new TOP-NOTCH Trek !
Where’s the champagne?
There's already a uss challenger. A galaxy class starship NCC 71099.
Such a wonderful ohmage to Thunderbird 2
