Yeah, because Windows 8/8.1 introduced Software rendering, so that Aero animations were possible without graphics drivers.
It was introduced in build 7972. However, it was really fuckin broken. When you installed graphics drivers, 2 things would happen:
Either
1: Your aero is disabled and you don't know what the fuck happened???
2: Aero works, and it looks smoother than ever.
