I started watching this to pass the time while my twins napped (and in self isolation)...next thing I knew I’m in my bathroom doing my makeup feeling like we’re hanging out lol
I think your Vintage clothes are fine. I've worn skirts all my life and people stare sometimes but I agree it's not a costume. Its important to dress the way you want to.
I think our society is sooo casual these days that if anyone is dressed up in any form they get questions 😂 People ask me if I'm going someplace special if I wear a day dress (I'm a stay at home mom). When I say no, they give me a quizzical look haha. Always be yourself. People don't have to understand. I'm going to attempt some of these hairstyles during the quarantine! Best time to learn 😘
I know it’s kinda bougie but the Dior Backstage foundation is GOAT. It’s in between creamy and matte without being drying. They have about 40 shades to choose from. More if you get it from Dior directly. They usually offer more shades than the OTC stores if you call, I don’t know why. At any rate it’s perfect to me and I’m very fair skinned. From the info on my bottle’s box it is: Free of sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan, and triclocarban, and contains less than one percent of synthetic fragrances. This product is also vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free, and comes in recyclable packaging. (This is not an ad I swear I just really like it.🙈)
This was so much fun!! I felt like I was hanging out with you and chatting! I get the “where are you heading too?” Or “are you in a play?” questions a lot. Like you, I just respond kindly and say no, this is my every day wear. Makes for great opening for conversations sometimes. Also, allergies! I too struggle with allergies. Recently someone told me the honey trick. Buy local honey, and eat a spoonful a day, it helps your body adjust to the pollen in your area. Seems to be working for me! ❤️❤️❤️
LittleAntiqueMe thanks so much lady! I have a hard time just sitting and talking 😂 it is nice that we all get these types of comments, makes me not feel alone in being different. 😊 I did get some honey and it does seem to take the edge off!
I go out and I see people with a careless lazy look brawl hanging out butt crack and pajama pants makes me mad I wish we could go back and dress as glamorous as the 40s and 50s you are a true doll.
Well, If someone feels comfortable, feels good with their attire, and it makes them happy…what does it matter? Just because you think and like older styles and dressing up is better doesn’t mean others do. Why should people dress in a way that makes you happier? And if what someone wears makes you “mad,” that sounds like a personal issue. 🤷🏻♂️
I came across you videos and got hooked. I thought it was because of your awesome Vintage clothing and your amazing clothes and make-up, But watching this video today and seeing you without the make up, hair do, and vintage clothing on, it made me realize, I watch because of YOU, you have the best personality, your voice and mannerizim, your sense of humor. Your kind loving heart shines through. Thanks, and Best Wishes for more Awesome Finds. A Big, Fan from West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
So fun to watch your makeup application! I apparently don't use enough product, and will practice with more! After all, it can be washed off and re-done...but not at 5:30 am ...
Omg I love your videos!! I'm still learning the vintage makeup style and you videos help plus are just great to watch. Love your style and keep living the vintage life dollface ;-)
Coty airspun has been beating on faces for YEARS. I live for the stuff! I do not feel like my face is on unless I have smelled Coty airspun powder. When I dressed vintage, I used to get that question a lot too. I also performed with a local Burlesque troop, so people would act a bit more understanding, but they didn't quite get that I was comfortable that way.
Sorry people don’t get it and our society has been so degraded where it is made the norm that people go out in basically pajamas or look so messy and unkept some don’t even look clean or showered. What you show is a classic good time when people actually cared what they looked like and took pride in being dressed up and put together when they left their home. You do you Lacy, love the techniques and the style savy looks you put together so classy
Oh boy, I always get asked 'are you going to a wedding?' Aghhhhhhh!!! I feel yer pain doll. I know it comes from a nice place but it makes me frustrated that people cannot accept the fact that some of us, like to dress in a vintage way, with all the trimmings etc (gloves, hat, flowers, full make up, nice shoes) without feeling we are going to some special event!! Hell, I wear this sort of outfit to the grocery store! …….& breathe. You look fab babe as ever! Xxxx
This is two years old but my favorite comebacks are “It’s not a costume” while looking dead into their eyes and “a funeral” when they ask why I’m dressed up 🥰
One of the great things about this style is that I’m watching this video 2 years later and it’s still relevant ! Love your style and this was a really nice video to watch. Hope you had fun at Disney! And hello from Canada 🇨🇦
Unless people are being rude or mean, I would try not to get offended. If they're compliments, even if they think you're in a costume but say you look nice, they don't know that you love to dress vintage every day. So I guess I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. I'd just take the compliments and dismiss the fact that most people aren't going to know you do this look every day. 🙂❤️
I did the road to Hana in 1991. It was fun but very long. We stopped at the black sand beach. At the end was the best part, and looking out into the ocean. Just beautiful!!!!
I’m 60 and wear vintage 40s or 50s style as much as possible. Most of the time I get complements! I just don’t pay attention to the people that don’t understand.
No I don’t wear vintage but love your dresses you wear! And other accessories and you are beautiful in it! My dream is to go somewhere fun but this virus has put a stop to the idea right now! I’m going to get my left eye cataract removed soon! So I’m getting excited! I’m praying it improves my eyesight! I need to get all new makeup as soon as my eye heals! Then both my eyes will be done yahoo!!! Thanks for showing us your getting ready makeup! I love you and stay safe!
I love your content💜 Would you be interested in doing a Marilyn Monroe hair tutorial?!?! You're so good at styling hair and I bet you would do an awesome job at styling and explaining a Marilyn hair look😉
Next time you go, go to the green sand beach. I think it's on the Big island. It's a trek but totally worth it. Great video btw, makes me want to pull my stuff out, I started collecting vintage clothing a few years ago 😊
I love tulips too! I live in Albany (NY) and our official city flower is the tulip, because it was originally founded by the Dutch. We have a Tulip Festival every year (just last weekend), and our sister city, Nijmegen in Holland, sent some people over to attend.
I live in the area too, love the Tulip Fest! Since you're local maybe you know of some events that feature vintage anything in our area? I've actually just started doing my hair and makeup vintage style and I'm working on my wardrobe :) Sorry, I know it's been a year, just excited to see someone else in the Northeast!
I too get asked about my look/outfit. I take it as a complement and sometimes say this is just my everyday retro look. Or I give it a name like this is my power blue outfit, or whatever. I'd like to know what eyeliners you used, I couldn't understand.
Sandra Meza that’s a great attitude! 😊 For eyeliner I used Essence eyeliner pen for my inner corners because it’s waterproof, then I used Schwing by the Balm for the rest.
I love you so much 😭😭😭 I really feel like I was born in the wrong time and you inspired me dress and be the way you want to 😭 I can’t wait to transform into this style that I’ve always adored 😭❤️
While I COULD understand comments…I personally, might even ask…but it would be totally innocent. Maybe because you seem more approachable and kind where they feel comfortable? Do you think they ask any of these kids with purple hair and piercings where they are going?…They like THEIR costume? LoL. I WOULD probably get annoyed and my nose bent too after awhile. You need a good comeback. My mom has told ME to tell people if they are feeling too comfortable about something to laugh and say “You’re so funny!! Hahaha!” What? What can they say? OR “That’s a funny question. WHY would you ask THAT!?” See? I’m already getting annoyed for you! I WISH I had the confidence you do-YOU ARE ADORABLE! I love it. I just found you and I’m hooked and have been binge watching. I have gone to thrift stores again this week cause I have had FOMO watching YOU! Ha! I have to say…YOU have given me a different way to look at thrift store items. I see all your stuff and I’m like “I have that!…I have that!” I’m more grandma chic/cottage. I feel like I have some stuff in my possession that you would like! Wish I lived closer! 🙂
I dress in a 1940s style, vintage button up short sleeve shirts, pleaded pants, fedora and saddle shoes and I get all types of stuff. "Why are you dressed up?" "What year is it?" "What are you 65?"(I'm 17). It gets annoying but it is what it is, suppose. Wish I could find other vintage people around me so we could verbally gang up on "normal" people (jk) lol!
The feral cats are on all the islands. They actually spray & neuter them to try to control the population & let them live out their lives 😊. We were coming back from a very remote beach & almost ran into a herd of feral pigs that came out of the ditch on 1 side & ran across the road. We live in the Midwest & were used to deer running out & yell "DEER!", but it was weird to yell "PIGS!" 😂
It’s hard to have people treat you differently. I try not to get too hurt over it because I know that the beauty of dressing vintage is being individual and that will come with both negative and positive attention. I also know most people are just ignorant to the fact that’s my everyday style. They don’t mean any harm.
This was fun, but one suggestion: your volume is low and that music in the background is so distracting. You don't need it. I enjoy vintage videos because it brings back fond memories of my childhood and my mom. I feel you can get away with vintage dressing when you're young but if you're older they just think you haven't changed your look in 50 years. Lol
Thanks for the feedback! There are actually a lot of lovely older vintage ladies on Instagram that look amazing! Not sure if you are on there, but Nikki Redcliffe is awesome, also Rubysmusings.
I enjoy the music! Re the comments, I can understand why some people you meet think you're in costume; you are a sight to behold! Gorgeous, but unusual. It may be uncomfortable to feel like you are being seen as a bit of an oddity, but you are absolutely lovely and should do your best to re-frame those comments as the compliments that they actually are.
I used to sell and I do use still the vintage look Soap and Glory beauty brand. You probably know it. I love their stuff. I love their Kick Ass Foundation. It's water proof and sweat proof stays on 24 hours. Also their Sexy Mother Pucker XXL lip plumping gloss in Pinkwell is my absolute favorite! I also was lucky to inherit alot of my grandmother's real vintage cosmetics from Max Factor. They're all mostly still in excellent shape, and some she never got to even open, so I still have the original packaging on certain items. But her lipsticks are gorgeous, she loved corals and reds that were big at the time, and she also had Revlons Cherries in the Snow lipstick and nail polish, too of course. Do you have them? Since they were the first products made by Revlon. It's the perfect shade of red too for all skin tones and really gorgeous to this day. I've been a makeup artist and esthetician for 22 years now, and I still love showing my clients some of my grandmother's vintage makeup! They all think it's so pretty and much classier packaging back then too. 😁❤️
Yes! I’m actually planning to try that foundation when mine runs out. I heard it’s basically the same formula. Oh that’s awesome you have some vintage makeup! I’ve had cherries in the snow lipstick before, but not currently. Yes! Vintage packaging is the best!!
I’ve heard too that the local honey really works 👍🏼 I love the way everything turn out ♥️ I have one question do you have to do that every day ? And if yes how long does it take ?
Memorable comments that come to mind range from "why are you dressed up as Adele?" and "you dress like an asexual child" (!) in 60s vintage to "your dress looks like something my grandma would wear" when in a 40s dress. Sometimes you're so taken aback you don't even know how to begin to answer! 😅
stella ockham oh gosh! Yes I have gotten “who are you dressed up as?” Quite often. I agree!! Sometimes it’s hard to know what to say. You keep being the fabulous person you are!! ❤️
Get bee pollen local to your area. Take some every day slowly increasing the amount. It will build up your system and keep allergies at bay. And you are lovely. Your clothes choices are very nice.
Hi Laci. I think in this day in age women should be able to dress the way they want be it vintage or modern as for myself self I'm always getting ask why I don't wear trousers the one thing I hate wearing. Marie
One day to work I wore vintage style combs, my hair was loosely curled, but no teasing or hairspray.... so many ppl were like wow that's an old style Like it was some kind of weird look lol. I thought it was cute and simple idk lol
When people asked what you're dressed up for/compliment your costume - what they're really saying is you look gorgeous, but also that you put in so much effort most of us can't imagine doing that everyday, so it HAS to be some special event. XD I agree, you are lovely, but I am a make-upless, roll out of the house in a t-shirt and sweatpants kind of girl. =0P If I didn't know better, I would probably also assume you were wearing a look for something special, because I couldn't be bothered to figure out how to do half of what you're doing to end up with your look - from makeup to hair to clothes. ^.^ I promise, it IS meant as a compliment.
Hi Laci, I know this is an older post, but I wanted to leave a comment. I would like to start off by saying that I think you're absolutely beautiful, and if I didn't know any better, if I saw a photograph of you, I would think that it was from the 1950s. I wouldn't question it. That being said, I would like to give my opinion on what's happening to you with regard to people asking you what you were dressed up for. It's not uncommon to go to the grocery store or to Walmart and see people in their pajamas. In today's society, it is rare that you find people dressed to the nines, as they used to say. I went to a church a couple of years ago, and the people were actually dressed in blue jeans and shorts. Many people in our society don't even TRY to look decent anymore. So, when they see someone like you, they are bound to ask what the occasion is. Let's face it, it takes a lot of work to make yourself up the way you do, and you do an excellent job! But paired with a society that barely gets dressed to even go to the store, you have a tendency to stand out. I know it's how you feel the most comfortable, and what you feel is the real you. Please try to understand that those people looking at you are doing so with fascination. I really believe they want to understand what motivates you to invest that much time in yourself. Chances are it's because they don't care that much for themselves. Try to ignore their comments, and understand that being true to yourself is the most important thing you can do. And also understand that there will always be people like me who are fascinated by people like you. You are amazing!
Great video. I love your look. You look like a beautiful young lady. couldn't hear it though. You are a soft spoken lady. Maybe the music in the background was a little loud at times too. 👵
I am sure people make those comments because your style is from a different era. I dress very different and unique. I will get comments like, are you going somewhere special, why are you dressing up like that, where did you get that, I like that, why are you all dressed up. I don't mind or care. No offense taken by me, dressing different than the tribe means I will get questions, it's part of the experience. If I didn't want anyone to see me, I would dress plain, drab and in the clothes that are current, then I wouldn't stand out. But I gotta be me so I dress from the heart 💖.
@@LaciFayTheVintageGirlNextDoor btw, I really enjoy your videos. I just discovered your channel today. I bought some cute retro looking dresses that I wear with petticoats. I'm using rockabilly as my theme. I watched your videos for inspiration and ideas💡. Thank you!
I don’t dress vintage, but even dressing in a dress & well put together, I get “why are you so dressed up?!” I’m never formal looking, but heaven forbid looking pulled together in California.
Late to the party but i dont do vintage but I do wear japanese lolita fashion. Get those comments all the time but ive been at it for 10+ years and at first, there were a lot of nasty comments like "dress your age" and "nice costume" comments but since the fashion became more global, the comments became less negative. If that makes sense xD
Thank you for sharing. Residing in Florida there are many who wear vintage clothing, both men and women. I find that to be a rude comment, as it is a lifestyle, and choice of clothing. I despise modern clothing styles. The trends are horrible. When i met Mrs. Talbot, she was wearing the perfect a line dress with little cashmere bolero over shoulders , buttoned at neckline. The dress was a cool mint color and she had large chunky emerald green beads and shoes. Really short bob pulled to the side. Keep being you darling and forget people.. they think Poshmark is couture. 😏😘⛵🌊☀️ love from Florida.post script, she said , " oh those designs they produce are nottt mine !" And she laughed. VERY COOL OCCUPATION YOU HAVE DARLING.
Sometimes, people have judged me in a negative way, and they made a rude face at me. When I dress in a way that I want, and not to please other people.
You always look so elegant and polished. I have enjoyed all of your videos. Thank you for sharing with all of us
I started watching this to pass the time while my twins napped (and in self isolation)...next thing I knew I’m in my bathroom doing my makeup feeling like we’re hanging out lol
Ahh yay!
I love this.
I Totally understand!!!
I’ve always loved VINTAGE anything.
Not all my friends understand it, but I could careless💅🏾
I think your Vintage clothes are fine. I've worn skirts all my life and people stare sometimes but I agree it's not a costume. Its important to dress the way you want to.
Oh absolutely!
Same here. I wear skirts almost everyday because that is how I feel most like myself.

Haha no need to have a reason! That’s awesome. Let me know how it goes with the hair, or if I can help in any way!
@@LaciFayTheVintageGirlNextDoor I've been binge watching your videos so fingers crossed I know what to do. When in doubt I'll just keep brushing 😂
I'm a stay-at-home mom too! I always dress up just to go to the store because normally I don't go anywhere
I know people look like such slobs even in church

Amy Jo thanks lady! I will try!
Love your positive take on the "lookie Lou" go to questions of fashion v.s. costume. Your vintage style is effortlessly glamorous ❤
Ledluver thanks so much lady! ❤️
I go out and I see people with a careless lazy look brawl hanging out butt crack and pajama pants makes me mad I wish we could go back and dress as glamorous as the 40s and 50s you are a true doll.
That’s what I say.
I agree, how rude of that person, or maybe just a bit dweeb on them.

Your natural skin looks flawless. The make-up enhances the natural porcelain of your skin. Yeah people comment about the way people are dressed.

You look so much like my cousin before the makeup :) Pretty!
How often do you dye your hair
I like her ventage style it's nice

I feel you can get away with vintage dressing when you're young but if you're older they just think you haven't changed your look in 50 years. Lol
Thanks for the feedback! There are actually a lot of lovely older vintage ladies on Instagram that look amazing! Not sure if you are on there, but Nikki Redcliffe is awesome, also Rubysmusings.
I actually like the background music .. it goes with it & isn’t too loud💕
I was in a 1950’s dress with petticoat and staff in a rather posh shop asked me “where’s the Fonz”!
Samantha Rolfe oh jeez 🤦♀️haha
Lotta body setting lotion is on Amazon it might help with ur hair when it just won't stop that sass ur grandma might've used it
I used to sell and I do use still the vintage look Soap and Glory beauty brand.
@@LaciFayTheVintageGirlNextDoor awesome! I'd love to see a video of you using Soap and Glory products. I did love your Besame makeup video FYI 🙂
Happy New Year to everyone 🤗
Intresting talk on Hawaii trip sounded good never heared of cinema convention .you have lovely hair laci love red lips too
I’ve heard too that the local honey really works 👍🏼 I love the way everything turn out ♥️ I have one question do you have to do that every day ?
Marie
I'm just now discovering you I realized this video is a year old LOL but you look retro pretty
I love your videos!! 😊❤️
FreakazoidKren thanks so much! I’m so glad you are enjoying them!
Do you go out every day like this? Just wondered.
Have you done a video on how you put your rollers? Thank you in advance
I did quite a while ago. I need to do an update!
@@LaciFayTheVintageGirlNextDoor yes I totally watched it lastnight thank you. But an update will be great thank you!!

M here to learn how to create my make up
costume for October 31 🙂
I am sure people make those comments because your style is from a different era. I dress very different and unique. I will get comments like, are you going somewhere special, why are you dressing up like that, where did you get that, I like that, why are you all dressed up. I don't mind or care. No offense taken by me, dressing different than the tribe means I will get questions, it's part of the experience. If I didn't want anyone to see me, I would dress plain, drab and in the clothes that are current, then I wouldn't stand out. But I gotta be me so I dress from the heart 💖.
Yes exactly! For the most part people are very complimentary and kind. 😊
@@LaciFayTheVintageGirlNextDoor btw, I really enjoy your videos. I just discovered your channel today. I bought some cute retro looking dresses that I wear with petticoats. I'm using rockabilly as my theme. I watched your videos for inspiration and ideas💡. Thank you!

Isn’t it crazy wearing dresses and lipstick makes you look “different” nowadays?
Sad, isn't it?
Very stunning!!
maja movie theaters?
I don’t dress vintage, but even dressing in a dress & well put together, I get “why are you so dressed up?!” I’m never formal looking, but heaven forbid looking pulled together in California.
You should do a get unready with me video
Late to the party but i dont do vintage but I do wear japanese lolita fashion.
Get those comments all the time but ive been at it for 10+ years and at first, there were a lot of nasty comments like "dress your age" and "nice costume" comments but since the fashion became more global, the comments became less negative. If that makes sense xD
Oh my gosh , ive been using that mascara for 50 years, havnt been able to get it lately, maybe its because of the covid. NZ
Wonderful :)
YOU LOOK FABULOUS DARLING!!!!💋
Ela tem. muita classe ao. se. maquiagem.❤
My boyfriend doesn't like vintage, so I try to just mix vintage items with modern items, but rarely I dress for myself and wear an entire outfit.
I love your look 😍
Sometimes, people have judged me in a negative way, and they made a rude face at me. When I dress in a way that I want, and not to please other people.
gorgeous hair
