- Here is my first reaction to the finale of Glitterbeard.
Rest in peace James!
Rare, the developer studio behind the swashbuckling action-adventure game Sea of Thieves, is paying tribute to one of its employees who tragically passed away with an in-game commemoration, "The Legend of Glitterbeard." James "Jim" White, an apprentice data analyst at Rare described by his contemporaries as "exceptionally bright and friendly," and always focused on the players of Sea of Thieves, died in March of last year.

It's my third day ever of playing this game, and yesterday I had already happened across one of Glitterbeard's journals at one of the outposts. But today, me and my friend came across a small alliance, and decided to join them in their adventures as well. Our first stop was here, gathering around the tree and preparing our instruments, playing as the sun set. I knew that the bottles would light, but I wasn't prepared for everything else that followed. And it was absolutely, undeniably, amazingly beautiful. The chills I felt as her voice came in, the excitement among ourselves as the tree began to glow, lighting the circles around our feet... I am so glad I was able to be a part of such a breathtaking tribute to someone that the team clearly adored. I raise a tankard to James White, and another to the Sea of Thieves team for immortalizing him in this way. Thank you for letting me be a part of it, may the wind forever fill his sails.

I lost a dog to cancer so I was already teary eyed when the song came on, then turned to ugly crying when the journal was being read ,RIP Glitterbeard may all sails be guided by the sprit of you to prosperity and merriment.
Jim sounds like a good man and I can understand why he was loved by the people at rare. I bet people (much like myself) strive to be the kind of gentle soul that he was
Honestly one of the greatest things I've seen a game do for one of the tributes of an employee passing away, gotta love it.

not a day goes by where i dont adorn the glitterbeard sails and a shipset mix of aristocrat and wildrose as it's my way of making my ship some sort of a constant memorial for jim.

Even when glitterbeard isn't here,he thought us one thing,the true treasure isn't the gold or the gems and jewel,its the friends we made along the way and the friends that sticks towards the end of the journey

Did this last night, 4 crews met by complete coincidence. 3 sloops and a galleon, my friend and I were the only ones who were not open crew. Absolutely worth staying up until 6 am. May have cried

Got together with some friends yesterday doing an alliance we sailed and sold treasure, but in the end, to celebrate a successful alliance we went to Plunder Valley to sing together...the moment the bottles lit put I knew something amazing was going to happen, but when her voice started singing it sent shivers down my spine, What an amazing way to remember a member of the team. Rest In Peace James and God Speed.
Possibly the greatest tribute of any game. The effort needed really stands for more than just getting a crew too go pay your respects, you need too band up with another crew and put aside your differences too work together.

This made me cry pretty hard.
We just did this the other day, and ended up becoming friends with the random crews we recruited for this. It was such a sweet tribute, probably one of the sweetest I've ever seen in a videogame.
No doubt! I have many new friendships now because of sea of thieves.

Tonight I had the good fortune of doing this myself, and I made some new friends while I was at it, the game may be called Sea of Thieves, but that doesn't mean we can't settle down and have a grand old time, sadly there are those that want to see it die, not because they hate it, but simply because they want to, they'll take advantage of new players, getting them banned with duplicated items or just generally going out of their way to ruin the experience for others, simply because they can, I would urge you all to protect new players from these kinds of people, especially with a fresh batch of players on a new console coming just around the corner, it's what James would have done, not because he had to, but simply because he wanted to.

This Easter Egg is immortalized proof that this game was meant to bring people together and share in the spoils and victories over the Sea and its dangers, not to fight and kill each other in a greedy race for every coin and bloodshed. I wonder how James would feel if he saw his creation become a toxic waste dump of a community.
I want to add that thieving, fighting and killing is also part f the game, and its encouraged by game developers with the reapers and reapers events. Tho this not means that you need to do this all the time, its a game, and sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes you just hang in there with strangers and find a beautiful easter egg...
@@MegahNevel Yes, but to argue that, once in a while, it sucks, but it's part of the game. What's NOT part of the game are players who constantly chase you down, even after sinking you, to do it over and over again for no other reason than to keep doing it. Pair that with one of the hacks that PC has access to, tracking other ships, even when not flying a Reaper's Emissary. How about the ones that don't abide by one of the unwritten courtesies, don't bother Tall Tales players? There is literally no gain in going after TT players. They more than likely only have a small, if any, amount of treasure, only enough supplies to run the TT with and the artifacts needed for the TT which have no other value to anyone else that are not on the TT. This community is toxic because of these players that can only have fun by ruining the fun for others.

@@vargaslestrae7900 I did the tall tales, realized how annoying they were at times, and it was at that moment that my crew and I vowed to never sink another crew if we boarded them and saw they were on a TT.
My xbox tag is named after this man. May he rest in peace. Finally got ab alliance together last night to see it for myself.

Nothing has been released on how he passed and I think it should stay that way
To the sea of thieves players…i beleve this is Athena’s fortune…the good memories and the adventures we have on the seas not the gold and not the blood…but the stories we share in a fire lit taven having a grog if you can find me on the seas i shall make our own group that celebrates the good memories of the sea and its history formally called…”Athena’s library” if you wish to join please contact me or find me on the sea of thieves…we shall explore every part of the sea looking for relics of the past from the very beginning to current history to tell future generations of our tails by word of mouth…cheers and good luck on your adventures
