    Hello, love your channel. I froze all my apple peels from my apple pie filling recipe I did in June. I decided to try your recipe for the pancake syrup. Awesome Sauce!! came out awesome, 12 pints, the only thing I did different I added 2 cinnamon sticks and I added some ultra jell to thicken the syrup. I used only 5 cups sugar, it was sweet enough. the end product was unbelievable. Will use them for gifts together with your pancake mix. I'm very happy with the outcome of this syrup and its taste. This is a keeper. Blessings, Laura M

    I would switch it out and add some tea bags around the syrup jars with a note on how to make thicker pancake syrup that way you get those of us who may not think of using the syrup to do double duty - I have a steamer juicer (bought the cheapest one $60) as I make alot of crabapple and rhubarb jelly and juice to drink. It breaks down the fruit without you having to strain it. I convert the fruit to juice then freeze it until I am ready to make the jelly. Your video is so great, it shows all steps and it was nice to hear the "pings"

    • @TheKneadyHomesteader

      those pings are the best! whats so nice about processing 30 jars, is the sound of 30 pings! HAHAHAHA and great idea about the tea bags!!!

      Always used them for feeding chx and pigs. Don't have those this season in life. So, been tossing those and feeling bad about it. I know there's nutrition in there and I don't like them going to waste. That's a lot of nutrition and money hitting the landfill. So glad so thankful I came upon this vlog.
      Glad I read your message. Aside from apple and pear what other ones do you use?

    I just did this with my apple scraps! I’ve got half a gallon of juice in the freezer to process later. I was gifted boxes and boxes of apples. I made 19 pints of apple butter, dehydrated 7 quarts of apple slices and then the half gallon of juice from scraps to make apple jelly later.

    yesterday evening around 7pm I peeled a bunch of pears (from my trees), washed, chopped them up into smallish pieces (peel and core too), put them in my crockpot and turned it on the keep warm setting with about 3 cups of water. This morning I turned the crockpot on high for a few hours then lowered to the low setting . I just got finished making the syrup, tasted it and love it!!! Will absolutely be making more in a few days. I cooked them on low because I had a million other things to get done and just couldnt get to it sooner. But it turned out to be a good thing I guess because the syrup is fantastic.

    • @OhItsJustMe2
      @OhItsJustMe2 4 роки тому +1

      I made another batch of this today. This time I done it a little different. I put the pears in my blender and pretty much pureed them. Then put in crockpot for a few hours on low (did not add water). I did not have cheese cloth, so I used flour sack material that I got from Sams Club (worked great). Poured the juice into a large stock pot. I decided to add 1/4 cup clear Jell (didnt want to use to much) to see if it would thicken the syrup up a bit more, and it did. It taste the same as the first batch but a bit thicker. I will be doing it this way again next yr.

    • @OhItsJustMe2
      @OhItsJustMe2 4 роки тому +1

      After letting this syrup sit for a few wks. That that I put the clear jell in got to thick. I will not do that again. When I made the second batch I also made a few jars without the jell, that syrup was just right in consistency but was a bit to tart (next year I will try adding a bit more sugar).

    i absolutely just love this idea . my mother in law does whole fruits such as plums,grapes,pears ,apples and what ever else she has including dried fruits n prunes.she does not drain it . she calls it "compute". she also uses little sugar , it gets thickish from all the fruits staying in there they serve it cold in a wine glass with a little of the boiled fruit in the bottom for there orthodox christmas , which is on january 7th . its traditional . she yells at me cuz i make it for when ever i have a taste for it . you might want to try it its wonderful. i use to make it for my son as a baby but i did strain it for him and called it fruit juice . it's really different n fun to have 2 christmas's , 2 new years and 2 easters ! i am not a good canner !!! tried to make lemon lime orange marmalade once last year. followed the recipe to the tee , now i to have tons of citrus syrup i use in our teas and stuff. but that was a happy mistake and we love it . im so doing this , i bet it will not be like yours i will probably screw it up . GREAT INFORMATIVE VIDEO. you are a great teacher like noreen n bev n linda v !!! ty for sharing this heather . hugs n xx

      +The Kneady Homesteader Wouldn't it be easier and more flavorful and more of an extraction just to throw everything in a crockpot and leave it overnight or even 24 hours then strain? If you don't want cloudy extracts and jelly bags are kinda small for straining some things what I do is buy a cheap pillowcase and use that to extract. Can reuse easy after rising and they are a lot of the time even more effective than say cheesecloth for getting the small particles and can get a really good grip on it. Can just cut however big or small you want. Also paint strainer bags from a hardware store work great too instead of jelly bags and can be bigger also are cheap.

      The Kneady Homesteader
      No problem! The easier and less work the better lol. Got these ideas from a herbalist. Works amazing for juicing too if you don't have a 300 dollar omega juicer for things like greens you just blend everything and strain and squeeze the juice out with a jelly bag or whatever you have and is just as effective. I think we need to think out of the box more. We have so many little tools and items we can get nowadays in the year 2015 it is amazing.
      Also another way to really really clarify a liquid is use coffee strainers. Stick one in a mesh strainer to hold it and pour in it.

    Thank you for sharing this video recipe Heather. Yes, we here in the US I think just don't think to use the "scraps" from fruit and veges. Looking forward to trying this recipe to make some jelly I think. Your canning haul looks so beautiful! Certainly time well spent. Thanks again and blessings to you and the family! :-) The Mrs.

    Could you use blackberry juice (by juicing blackberries) to make syrup? The blackberries are wild and have really big seeds, don't like... I'd love to juice hem in a juicer if possible and make syrup.

    Beautiful!! What is the n ok use in the background? Do you have a special place you can or do you do in your kitchen? Your dryer! Lol. You are such lovely person. I bake for my mailmen and when I can catch the garbage men. You are great.

    Great save for the peels. So great instead of throwing it away and spending money on store bought syrups and jellies.

    How much fruit did you start with? Also, I have so little freezer space. Could I dehydrate the scraps and boil it from dried?
