Brilliant idea! I copied your materials but tackled the polishing part a little differently. I had very good results using a rotary buffer and buffing compound. I followed this up with paste wax and it shines like a '65' Cadillac!
I don't even own a motor home but, was curious on the process of refinishing one. Super impressed with your work and so far Rosie Too is looking amazing!
Jamie I have to hand it to you, it looks great. As a former car salesman, manager, and appraiser I have an eye for paint imperfections. You impressed me with your finish product.
Thanks, I’m a bit of a perfectionist. It’s not a 20k paint job but I’m really happy with the results. Next up polish and show the finished coach. Thanks for watching!
These are awesome and will definitely use the products and applicators you suggest. Thank you for making this look like a very doable job for me! Going to save me A LOT of money! Thanks again!
Glad it was helpful. I wanted to do this for a couple of years. My friends said I was crazy for wanting to do it myself. It is a lot of work for one person. I guess I love a challenge.
Long ago, on many boats, proper fairing/sanding only needed single coat of one part Interlux done with 1/8" foam roller and badger brush produced deep reflections and high gloss.
I going to use Total Boat Topside paint. Ended up using Rustoleum because it was easier to get and a couple of my friends used Rustoleum and had good results. Thanks for watching!
I’m not gonna lie it’s a lot of work. I just couldn’t justify spending 20k to paint a 2006 Motorhome. Next up polish and final reveal. Thanks for watching!
I am starting the Process of painting the exterior of our 1999 Harney Coach Work’s Renegade 37’ DP. Your Videos have been a big help, looking forward to seeing the completed project, BTW my Name and My Wife’s Name is Jamie. And we are hitting the road Full time with our 2 kids.
I’m glad the video’s have been helpful. Best of luck on your paint job. Jamie was a rare name when I was growing up and I can’t tell you how many times people misspelled it or told me it was a girls name. Polish and final reveal are next. Thanks for watching!
That’s part of the reason I wanted to learn this process. That way I can fix anything that should happen over time. Plus Rustoleum is readily available. Thanks for watching!!
We are hitting the road so we are leaving it white. Not sure if we want stripes or not . We will give it a little time and see if we want to add stripes. Polish and final reveal up next. Thanks for watching!
Did you do any sanding between paint coats? I'm doing my 2007 Coachman Mirada. I want more than one color, any tips on that? Thanks for the videos they are really great.
I did light sanding with 400 between coats. For multiple colors I would paint the color that would be the majority color first and let that cure. Then proceed with the next color that and so on. You want to make sure the the paint that your going to be masking on for the next color is cured enough so it won’t peel when you go to remove your masking. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Thank you - it took 4 gallons of paint for the rolling and 12 cans of the Turbo Spray to do the lower half where the storage doors are 6 per side. I have a full breakdown of everything in the description of the reveal video. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for asking! We applied Henry's Tropicool almost 3 years ago. We've been in temps we'll over 100° & below freezing. It's still just like the day we did applied it. Here's a link to the video. The best price seems to be at Home Depot. ua-cam.com/video/tGV420hBv-4/v-deo.html
Is this a 1000.hr paint job? Have a 36ft class that im considering painting, not sure if im gonna spray or try rolling, this seems like it would be a full time job for a few months of non stop work.
Felt like it, too. The weather seemed to make the project go on and on. That and this old body had to recover for a few days between each section. Especially with the sanding. But I like doing things like this.
One question, why did you not just spray the entire RV? It seems like it would be easier. Also did you end up ordering decals or paint your design? Do you have a video on this?
It’s hard to control overspray when using a spray can. Rolling the rest of the RV was less expensive and easier to control and a lot less masking. I also felt that I got better coverage rolling. We have not decided if we are going to do any graphics. I won’t do any decals they don’t last. I would be right back where I started with faded and cracked decals in a few years. Thank for watching!
Sorry you found it difficult. We put the link to the playlist in the video description. This is it: RV Renovation 2006 Class A Motorhome: ua-cam.com/play/PLRLgCPSMRdUztaahpNeYqrT26uJGmMZcp.html Hope that helps.
3000 grit will hard time getting rid of the imperfections. I tried using 1000 after paint and I didn’t get the results I was looking for. Thanks for watching!
As a car/motorcycle painter for a number of years, do your lungs a favor and wear a mask or respirator when you are spraying any kind of paint. The paint is looking good! Are you going to put graphics on it? I've seen some Alfas lately with nice graphics and full body paint.
I know your right I get caught up in what I’m doing and forget the mask. I’m not sure if we are going to put graphics on or not. We are going to leave it white for a while and decide if and what type of graphics we want. If we do I’m going to paint them on. No more decals. Thanks for watching!
As somebody that painted for a living using a spray can to paint your motorhome really? You have clean air in your tanks, buy a sprayer, and so enamel and some reducer and do it right. It would stand up for years. Unlike a spray can paint no matter what kind of paint you use.
As you know being a painter there’s a learning curve in knowing how to use a sprayer and getting your paint mix right. I have a few friends that used the method that I used rolling and tipping and the paint has held up. As I said in the video I only sprayed the lower half because of the storage doors. I’ll agree you would probably get a better result using your method. Thanks for watching!
@RoamingWithRosie true there is but if you can spare with a spray can you can use a spray gun. The big thing is thinning the paint so you don't end up with orange peel. I was 16 when I started working in a body shop and within 4 months is was doing spot jobs like a fender or a door. No clear coating back then. One thing I couldn't do was match colors well so I quit and drove semi's for 42 years. I retired after 6 million miles with 1 accident and maybe 15 tickets. Or.hates trucks and most of my tickets were there and were BS tickets which cost more to fight than to just pay.
@@RoamingWithRosieI am on your page. I have all the air equipment needed but I am going to do the roll and tip. Why? I am outside. Under cover but not wanting the pressure and stress of having to shoot all sides of 38 feet and the height. Way too much risk due to not being in a paint booth. Your method works for me!
It’s a lot of work and definitely not for everyone. I had always wanted to paint our RV and wanted to see if I could actually accomplish it. Thanks for watching!
I paint houses for a living, and it never, ever fails.... The doggon wind 🌬️😂🤝🏼
I feel your pain! 😉

I had better results from buffing and wax afterwards also. The polish seamed to leave swirl marks.

Thanks so much for watching! Next up polish and show the finished product.
@@RoamingWithRosie I’m excited for you guys, it’s coming out so nicely. Hard work pays off
I paid close to $3000 to have my van painted. This time around I'm going to paint my 20ft Rv myself. Thanks for sharing. You did an GR8T job!
Thank you, it’s a lot of work and very rewarding!

Gorgeous!! How many coats on the tope level did you do before sanding/ buffing?
