🚨READ ALL BEFORE YOU SKIP 🚨 ~Important Info~ If your Mitsubishi Eclipse Cranks but doesn’t start, it may be a bad ignition coil, bad spark plug, no current through the plugs, fuel pump, or it may be a ignition mobilizer. I recently started fixing my beat-up 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Spyder and it won’t start so I checked all these and everything was good! I replaced my fuel pump and it’s good so I know it’s not my fuel pump. I checked everything else and it was good. I bought and replaced ignition coil. It would still crank. I changed my dashboard because I needed a new one and while I was changing it, I switched a ignition immobilizer around with another one. I think an Eclipse needs it’s original immobilizer and I put a different immobilizer on my car. If it has a different immobilizer then, it won’t start and a green light with a car and key lights up when I try to start my car. This is an “emergency safety” to the car and it won’t turn the engine. I put the original immobilizer back and the car started. I also checked my fuel in the tank and it had water so I made a siphon and sucked the fuel out of the car. I put new gas and cleaned my fuel injector and bought new ones. It sucked the old crappy fuel and water won’t spark a spark plug so I changed the injectors. While I was changing my immobilizer I realized the key was stuck. 😐 I know why but it’s hard to explain. I had to do all this work because in 2011 I stopped using my Eclipse and never started it back. 🤦🏽♂️ I regret this and now that I put my original immobilizer back, my car starts. I need an affordable price range of $100-$300 for someone to spray my car back for me NEATLY! If you know anyone, please reply to this and let me know. It needs to be a good job and it has to be neatly done. Btw, when the car started, I cried😭😁. I was happy! It’s good to hear my baby ROAR back to life. If these tips work, please like this.
Just because you have a timing belt,spark ,and fuel delivery, and you still do not have a start, does not mean the rings or the valves are bad. You very well could have a bad crank positioning sensor. The cam positioning sensor in the distributor will prevent spark. However the crank positioning sensor if it goes bad, will deliver a bad timing reading. Therefore will restrain your motor from starting. These motors are infamous for that. Including the 3.0L V6
Is the crank positioning sensor next to the starter? I have a 04 gs spyder having the same problem, replaced the cam sensor, spark plugs, starter, fuel pump, and a bunch of other stuff. Also replaced the ecu
to check for crank sensor problem is easy. try starting and look at the rpm gauge. if your trying to start and it doesnt move thats most likely the problem, the sensor is telling the computer motor isnt starting when it should be saying it is. also check the coolant sensor and the fuel rail pressure. if no fuel rail pressure its probably the fuel pump.
So I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS! I purchased it out right cash & it ran like a dream. Then I would be out running errands (say I stopped & started it from store to store) I would make it to like 3 stores or so & I would come from say the 4th store & my car wouldn't start for about 20 min or so & then I'd try it again & it would start right up & I would get it home. I have taken it to 6 mechanic's & it only keeps throwing an O2 sensor code!? The first time it threw a code for spark plugs, so I went & bought brand name spark plugs & I changed them & the car ran perfect for about a week & started doing the same thing again!! HELP, please & thank you in advance!
i have a 2002 mitsubishi eclipse 2.4l i decided to sell it and as soon as the guy came it stalled on us and now i can not get it to start to save my life the i disconected the fuel line and it started for like 5 seconds any thoughts
What about injector pulse? Or main power relays? Not sure wiring diagram this particular car. But even if fuel pump is working and you have fuel pressure, if there's no power to injector wouldn't that be an issue? I'm writing this as I'm watching so I know you don't have compression but before you got there wouldn't you want to check those other things as well?
Could also be a simple Relay issue.Didn't see you check those in the engine fuse box ($9 MFI relay or Fuel pump Relay on rockauto).could also be a bad or damaged cam position sensor (located in the distributor) or crank position sensor.
So yesterday i changed my crankshaft position sensor and a new battery in my 04 eclipse and car ran good but today on my way to work the check engine light came on and then a lil bit after the rpms started jumping up and down like crazy then shut off, starts back up but continues to shut off any idea?
I’m having the same issues with my eclipse 2003 Gs , I have replaced the fuel pump and sadly didn’t start, my mechanic thinks it might be an electrical issue as it doesn’t even make a sound from the fuel pump when trying to start up the car 😦😦

I have 3 issues with my 2003 GT Eclipse. cruise control doesn't work, rear view mirrors don't work and horn doesn't work. These aren't life threatening but they are annoying
Cam shaft sensor had and problem hubby easily replaced it after we put in new fuel pump that still did fix problem now we think there was nothing wrong with pump to begin with
Crank position sensor going bad or starter, however with a bad CPS, car may shut off while driving if the computer loses the signal, which can be dangerous...bad starter won't start till it catches a good spot as it ages.just keep turning it over till it catches a good spot as you save to get a new one.
Mine had no fuel pump, would start with fluid, turned out to be balancer belt destroyed crank sensor, no codes, until.i cranked engine 2 minutes, after replacing pump injectors and pressure regulator
8 or 10 times is not the correct way to check compression, its the 21st century and everybody needs to know how to use their phone camera to video the compression gauge at every pump of the compression and movement of the needle, compare each pump amongst all cylinders pay heavy attention to the first pump, if it is low, you might have caught that cylinder on the compression stroke already so do it again. Of course if no compression then an additional leak-down test should be done to point at rings, intake, or exhaust valve and of course, a blown head gasket while monitoring for escaping air from your air compressor testing each cylinder at TDC compression stroke.
My 03 eclipse 2.4 is turning over and starting but goes off after a minute or two. And if I press da gas it turns off immediately. Please someone help me.
I've got the same engine in my 04 outlander and it makes the sound only thing is compression gets up to 120psi on each cylinder i have fuel and spark.......car over heated prior due to radiator rupture and it sprayed all over under the car while it was running. After being replace it ran and then the rpms slowed while running so i turned off immediately then tried starting and it sounded like this then it started one more time ran good then i turned off tried to do it once more then it sounded like this video again and hadn't started since🤷🏽♂️
Wow! I currently drive an 05 dinosaur and it did the EXACT same thing you have mentioned. I was parked, car idling all of a sudden the radiator burst, coolant went EVERYWHERE! THE car will only crank now but won't start... Did you ever figure out what your issue was?? I still have a year of $412mo payment, No warranty and if I say anything to dealer about said issue they will pick up this heap and consider it a forfeiture. Old yes, but not to be outdoneI I fixed up the interior, new tires, engine bay got detail cleaned so I could see any leaks or abnormalities and car had 159K when purchased in 23'. If engine is toast I am going to explode like the radiator. I know its been a long time ago but you would help me immensely if you could recall what was the culprit to the no start your had. Kevin Knight what about if you get that issue after a new timing belt? Whatever happened drained the battery immediately and now with a new battery, it still has no start up every so often
The electrical short/issue...also check the factory amp under the passenger seat, goes bad and drains the battery. disconnect it & go aftermarket radio.
i have done probably more timing belts than anyone and 99 % is customer neglected, most all manufactures have gotten away from them finally over the past 10 years, and yes a mitsubishi is an interference engine. mitsubishi is not junk the dumb ass customer is and proper service is key.

First thing is spark then check fuel then check compression then u can assume it might be a timing problem

Slide you finger over the back side of the cruise control lever on push the button back in to place. It slips out ever now and then.
Mine will start sometimes and them not start at all. Acts like it wants to start while cranking but doesnt. I replaced fuel pump. Any suggestions

There is two timing belts . Look under bottom timing cover. Bullet proof motor.

It is an interference motor. Change that water pump, timing belt, tensioners and all components every 60k.

yep those valves bend and it's chaos! But it's up and running now.
They told me the mechanic that it's a zero-tolerance Once the belt breaks you need a whole new engine
