For me, SAO was not my kind of anime. But the fanbase was a cancer. My weeaboo friends who worships SAO literally said that FMA Brotherhood is a shit anime with stupid plot twist and no waifu material (i choked myself when they said it) that was overrated. And i would respect their opinion if they did not state is as "fact" and starts arguing who's the best waifu in SAO and hits each other's face when one of them could not take a critic from the others. But of course, i do respect people who likes this anime and not a filthy weeaboos.

CrispTugBoat They were my best friends since we share the same hobby. We share our healthy opinion about anime and games and respecteach other. But after they knew SAO and Love Live it feels like i am talking to a different people (the filthy weaaboo trash kind of people). It makes me sad to lose important person in my life just because some anime.

A lot r but at the same time a lot aren't, like me, when I first watched this show I was 11 and even then it was cringy and stupid, matter of fact on Anime Animo, I've seen more adults rage at the ppl that don't like the show more then that young teens, so I would say it's like 50, 50 for the fan base being young kids to old adults.😕

The only way I can describe sao is those daydreams everyone has that they're top boy in all aspects and win all arguments and every girl falls head over heels for you. Kirito is probably pandering to every social outcasts fantasy really.

yeah but the wiki does so jsut one quick glance and a wiki can show you what shes mastered and shes also mastered the Rapier.
Just a quick note. People shouldn't have to refer to the wiki for information that should've been given in the show itself. While that knowledge may be on the wiki or in the light novel it's never fully expressed in the anime. Elchemist Gaming is right, they never tell you in the show AND IT TOTALLY SHOULD'VE BEEN! Not having it is poor story telling. Even if they had someone take like 3 seconds to mumble something like "oh I heard she mastered the rapier skill." Or if they had Kirito like peek over her shoulder and look at her skills list would've been acceptable. Expecting someone to know something that wasn't even talked about in the poorly written show and needing to rely on another source to find out anything is unfair. Why should the effort be on their part? Shouldn't it have been the job of the writers to put in any/all information that would've fleshed out characters better. I mean it's their job to write and do it well, not the viewers to look it up. AND ANOTHER THING while Asuna had a great reputation and while again her fighting prowess may have been shown off in the novels It's not really shown in the anime. She's almost constantly relying on Kirito.

coolchrisable Look I respect your opinion, but I don't take things like narratives from television shows seriously when it comes to looking it up on Wikipedia. I usually have to watch shows for myself to see if what people say is true, and to be honest, I never heard them explain any other maxed out skills that Asuna has. To me it's bad story writing, and for others its nitpicking, I don't mind either way.
SAO made be horrible, but you know what isn't horrible? The Abridged Series.

+360NOSCOPE I don't know, I can admit that if it was actually done right it would've been really good, but with the flaws of it, especially from the two alfenheim arcs, I'd hesitate to say it's good. However, I can also admit that it's not the worst anime ever, that title actually belongs to a three episode anime called garzeys wing, there is no other anime other than Boku no pico that's as absolutely terrible as garzeys wing.

You didn't deserve all those dislikes. This is a very clear, easy to understand list of legitimate complaints.Just one tiny point, that doesn't detract from the video.Your point about the bosses not respawning is a little shaky because SAO was designed to be a death game (although that begs the question of why the beta testers didn't notice the slightly shady shit going on with the game design since when they played it they wouldn't have known its true purpose). It would defeat the point of forcing everyone to cooperate to survive if everyone had to face bosses themselves. Also people would definitely not WANT to fight bosses if they didn't have to because they'd risk dying.Also GOD DAMN hearing the plot summarized I didn't realize how many time skips there were and how much the anime exposits. SHOW DON'T TELL. And the pacing is GARBAGE.

@@KingofYggdrasil well Sugou did also trap 300 people and conducted experiments on them, but I do agree on this. That scene in the second arc was really really bad. Even if it fulfilled the exact purpose that it set out to do, It's probably the only thing I hate in the entire series. Although Reki has publicly apologized for that scene along with the one in Alicization, also saying that he would do it otherwise if he were to do it now.
Also ALO was definitely explored more in the Calibur arc and Mother's Rosario arc, so can't complain about him not building that world more. Plus the LN has even more details.

it is not neccessarily that the original series sucked. Abridged Series tend to have more heignsight to work with the material and aren't stuck with the same restrictions on continuity and tone for most anime that get abridged. That being said SAO Abridged is great and SAO is still awful.

Not sure if anyone has noticed this, but the Nerv gear wouldn't exist in the first place, one simple reason, health and safety.
Firstly this is a device which can control your nervous system and stop your muscles, this wouldn't be let through as what's to stop it, through bugs or on purpose, stopping essential muscles like the heart or the diaphragm. And on the slight chance it was let through, this would cause it to be very thoroughly checked for anything else.
Secondly, the microwave emitter powerful enough to fry your brain, as or more powerful then that in your microwave, without something to stop the rays getting out (as a microwave does) would not be allowed on any device, let alone something you strap to your head.
There you go, more reasons the premise is stupid, or maybe this is too nit picky, I don't know,
+Sky Comet I've always wondered about that. If something like the NerveGear was released in our world and does exactly like it does in the SAO universe than there would be men and women from everywhere tearing the NerveGear apart in every aspect to understand how it works and how it functions. I cannot believe that NO ONE discovered that one huge flaw. Seriously, was no one allowed any dev kits at all? Except for the beta testers. I'm just wondering because of the existances of Alfheim Online.
Another thing that bugged me was the Amusphere. It's stated in SAO, Alfheim Online has been out for over a YEAR. Since the second half of the first season takes place only 2 months after the SAO Incident, that would mean people were willing to put on the NerveGear 2.0. while their friends and family were fighting for their lives in this other world. Why? Why would the government allow the Amusphere to be released to the public. Yeah you could claim it's a free market and all, but there is no way they would just up and allow something that is clearly based off of the first generation to be released WHILE everyone was still trapped in SAO.
So that brings me to my final part. If the Amusphere was released to the public just one year into the SAO Incident, why didn't everyone wait for the upgraded version of the same technology? It uses the same technology through and through, just with better security and it's probably faster for that matter. Hell, it shown in the anime that the game, Alfheim Online is compatible with the NerveGear, so wouldn't that mean SAO would be just as compatible with the Amusphere due to the fact they are both running on the same engine with practically the same assets and all that just with a new coat of paint?
BTW your statement is not too nit picky. If you haven't, go watch Digibro vids on both SAO and it's sequel SAO 2 Now that is nitpicking, not that I object to what he has to say. There are indeed many flaws to SAO, but I can say this, I can watch SAO for some mindless entertainment if anything, flaws and all.
***** True there was no way to prove one way or another, and that would have been a very interesting twist at the ending. If it turned out that those 4000 people didn't actually die, but was trapped in like some psydo-loading screen that would have made the stakes still as real as it would have been had they really died since most players took it as factual evidence.
+Sky Comet Yeah if we do end up seeing a VR device make it onto the market it would need to be like the AmuSphere. Not powerful enough to actually cause physical harm and with safety features meaning a user can be ejected if anything goes wrong. This would be at the cost of immersion like it's stated in the series but worth it because it can't actually kill you.
On the muscle thing it would need to stop just your voluntary motor reflexes. This already happens when we go to sleep to stop you from acting out your dreams. I don't think a device of that nature would be able to stop someone's heart because that's an involuntary muscle movement but I can't be sure. I don't understand neuroscience enough to know if that would be possible.
I actually really don't mind the premise as it opened up so many opportunities just the execution is so horrible because Kawahara has no idea what he's doing.
To be honest then we could say 'why do titans exist? How were they made or did they just appear?' or 'why would someone hire a demon Butler?' we wouldn't even have some one of the most iconic anime if they were realistic... I don't even like SAO that much but my statement is true.
+MrRjwagner people beta test a lot of dangerous stuff before it can become what it became at release. A nerve gear could exist later into the future but it obviously wouldn't work the same like what the anime has shown.

Having faster reflexes doesn't even make sense from a real world perspective. In real swordplay, you would want to dual wield because you are compensating for your lack of reflexes with your superior strength and dexterity.
Things that determine your skill with a blade in real life are your reflexes, hand-eye coordination (dexterity), strength, speed, experience, and intelligence. If you had an mmo that revolved around ONLY melee weapons then you'd think that it would at least translate these factors into the gameplay to spice it up, SAO doesn't do that, it just lazily says "Oh the algorithm determines it." like bitch wtf?
It's a fucking game dipshit so as kayaba said only the one with the fasted reaction time can get the skill.
So hear me out: first of all there are only 10 000 people in a game instead of millions, so it wouldn't be such hype if 1 person gets it. Second, it was kayaba's meaning to only give one person the skill. That person would also be the one who defeats the demon king. So what I mean you can shit on the serie as you want, but when you complain about that dual wield skill thingy you should shut your mouth, and btw everyone could just wield 2 swords, but they cannot use the DUAL WIELD SKILL u know that skill that both of the swords use skills it's not the same as just wielding 2 swords. There is a difference, kirito used dual wielding only twice in the whole series.

The way the game handled dual wielding was fucking stupid given the fact that there was NOTHING but weapons. Like seriously are you on crack?

If a sword weighs 25 pounds you can forget about anyone but the literal strongest strongmen in the world wielding it, and even they with a little bit of sparing would opt for a standard 2-6 pound sword. I've practiced hema and martial arts for most of my life. It absolutely compensates for slower reflex time. It's easier to move a 3 lbs. sword and parry or side step than it is to lift a 8-12 lbs. shield and brace your arm.
And talking of blocking arrows with a sword is a moot point, because that would 99.999999% of the time be a fluke or a freak accident.
But I don't know where this ridiculous idea that swords are super heavy comes from. Across the board the heaviest sword ever used in combat was like 10 pounds. If a weapon is too heavy to hit your opponent before they can hit you it's a detriment.
The author hides behind the fact that this is a game so everything should be simple and easy to understand as a way of avoiding any actual research. But there are relatively realistic games but i digress.
Dual wielding isn't even done in real life with any frequency anyways for the simple fact that it does not provide any real benefits or advantages and mostly just risks the two swords getting in the way of each other. It does not let you attack at a noticeably faster speed than you would with one sword if you swing two swords one at a time, and swinging both at once would probably just reduce the overall power of either swing much like how boxers don't punch with both fists at once.
I totally get that anime can do whatever the heck it wants for the sake of looking cool and real physics are optional, but I just want to point out that if we are trying to apply real world logic then by actual historical combat practices dual wielding swords does not offer much in terms of practicality or advantages for any reason.

I watched the first couple of episodes of Sao, hated it, and decided to see this review. I never even knew there was no magic in this series which makes it so much worse lol.
Probably an unpopular opinion but I think SAO would have been much better if Sachi was the mc. Having a character who is both afraid of the dying and completely aware that this is a death game go through something like watching her entire guild die and turning into a stronger character might have actually been fun to watch, or literally any other characters. Heck, they can even have a love story if they want but please JUST MAKE THE STORY BE ABOUT SURVIVING AND ESCAPING THE GAME!!! NOT THIS!!!!!
Tbh, i loved the romance scenes. I think it's relevant to the plot it shows how greatly attached they are in the virtual world and for Kirito, he's been around long enough to meet a girl like Asuna and had a second life with her. But all of that was taking so much of the main plot and episodes to the point it made the anime looked like it was more about romance instead of the game itself... If only it was 24 episodes and 2 Seasons long... that way they could've had more room to develop more characters and the storylines (plot holes as well).

Kirito is basically the embodiment of every gamer/nerd/otaku power fantasy. He's super powerful without even training AND every woman he spends time with falls for him. It's like the writers just looked up every mary sue fan fic and just went with it.

SAO's 'protagonist' would be such an interesting character if he was actually written to be a loner loser kid in the real world who, once stuck in a video game embraces and out right loves the fact he can play an over powered badass. Him not helping to clear the world and just messing about, being a condescending dick to everyone would make so much more sense. Hell even the creator of the game 'choosing him' would have been an interesting twist if it meant the only reason Kirito is so OP is because he was actively made the 'hero' of SAO' by it's mass murdering creator. Then instead of the awful train wreck that was The fairy Dance Arc Kirito 'dies' in that final fight but respawns at lvl 1. And quickly realizes he's not as god tier at the game as he was lead to believe. He would have to deal with the fact that when he was OP he often didn't do shit to get him or others out the game, but now that he's weak and wants to help he can't do much of anything. But that would be actual character development, and Kirito is clearly a self-insert wish fulfillment before he is his own character. So he's chosen by the creator because he's already a special snow flake, he can hack inside the game because he's just that awesome. He has that special duel sword kill because he's so skilled he deserves it. *sigh*

I was saying it in the way of plenty of what people have said could make sense in the world, but since SAO is so incompetent to mention something along those lines.
What's also strange is that it was shown that the person who sent Kirito on the Gun Gale arc was apparentally working with the government or something (sorry it's been ages since I last watched SAO) were actually able to somehow see what was going on with the game because they were able to know the red players in the game and be able to make them go through punishment once they got back after the game was cleared. The fact that they would settle for just being able to see what's happening though wouldn't make any sense especially if Kirito with no real knowledge of the code was able to hack a part of the game in 10 seconds (which even to skilled hackers/programmers would be ridiculous) but hey plot holes in this abound. Every show seems to have it's own kind of problems with it though, it's just when we really enjoy a show that we can look past minor flaws that exist. When there are huge plot holes and inconsistences it's much more noticeable though. Also I'll end this here since it's long already.
Honestly I don't see how EMPing the every living s*** out of the nerve gear wouldn't shut it off entirely as the circuits would be fried and it would not activate. EMPs have been a thing since forever now so if this is the future there is practically zero excuse for this. Even if they didn't disconnect it, yea, ANYONE involved is 100% getting arrested and probably getting the rope that hangs.

1. Kirito is suppose to be a anti social geek who rarely talks to anybody due to his love for computer, yet his entire fucken harem literally gets introduced in the very first episode. He lost the personality that would have made him somewhat interesting in the first couple of minutes of the show.
2. Time skips. Dear lord, the time skips in this show are ridiculous. One minute he's on floor 25, then in the next episode, he's on floor 55 and has gained 30+ levels. Character development is totally out of the question since he's already better then everybody else in episode 2. The only exception is Asuna... who they totally shit on
3, Asuna, who they totally shit on. Asuna was a strong character who could actually stand close to the mc, then they turn her into someone who can't do shit without the mc. Basically nobody should have the strength to match kirito or else he won't be the god of the game anymore.
4. Kirito was so stupidly outrageously op that there wasn't even a point of him having a struggle in this game what so ever. This mofo was so powerful that the one who threw him in this death game had to resolve to using cheats. Da fuck! Even in their rematch they just gave kirito hacks mode to ensure that he will win no matter what. Lets not forget that someone had to paralyze his skinny ass just to take him down a notch.
5. Kirito being a shitty character and having a shitty harem isn't even the worse if it. No, I would say the story and plot take the cake. This story isn't original since its just a huge rip off of .hack//, and the plot progresses very very very poorly. The only thing you really get to look forward to is the animation.

I remember when I was getting into anime and this was the first Shounen anime I watched. Looking back it doesn’t even deserve to be a part of shounen. The concept was cool, don’t get me wrong I watched for the concept and rpg style.
The anime ruined it with generic characters and a terrible way of introducing characters. It basically forgot about the two other chics, don’t forget he loved what’s her face from his first guild, basically never mentioned it again.
Then asuna came along and it was like "oh shit she’s annoying and seems generic" and well, she was. She was useless the entire time and for some reason she became the love interest. All she could do was cook and throw herself in front of a sword to buy NO time for him and just ruin his will to fight. The only reason he won was because he wanted to avenge his "lover" and somehow survived being stabbed for enough time to beat the game.
The story and character plot sucks but hey nice animation and cool concept. The first girl was cute to I liked her till she just died.
Seriously though, you may as well just download the soundtrack, and NOT watch the show. The music is good. The show is not.
All credit to Yuki Kajiura on that one. Though honestly, I can only think of one track that I really liked, which was Luminous Sword. Everything else didn't really stand out to me.

Yeah, Kawahara has no idea how games work. At all. Everyone has serious names, the mechanics suck BALLS, and every female is in love with Kirito. Oh, and the swords make no sense. For instance, Kirito DUAL WIELDS two longswords, which is oh so very stupid. Watch a video about dual wielding by Skallagrim for better clarification. But also, the proportions are HORRIFIC! Heathcliff's sword - the guard is BLOODY MASSIVE! Waay too heavy. Kirito's way of sheathing his swords - Impossible. His arms should be down by his knees to be able to sheathe his swords. For almost all the swords in the anime - they have either skinny handle syndrome, or fat handle syndrome. They're much more, but I really can't be assed to type it.

It must be the first time in my seven years watching internet reviews that i saw someone review a game that not exist in real world and only in an animation, and i really felt i was watching an episode of Games I F*cking Hate inside another series.

It was an interesting premise though. The things that fucked it up are too great to count with SAO, but one of the issues was how few people were trapped. 10000 people on launch day made it one hell of a flop. If it were millions, that would make it more convincing, but 10000? People could wait it out until the game was shut down. And that's just one of the many things making SAO terrible.

To be honest, I do watch Sword Art Online, and I like it, but it does have a ton of flaws, and the guy in this video is speaking the truth. I know that many people do not like it and that's OK. I know that many people who are fans would do anything to protect this anime, and that's OK (Well not really when they bash other people and don't face the truth). I know that I might as well not watch it because other people tell me not to, but For some reason I keep watching it. I know it has a bad storyline. I know it has a ton of plot holes. I know many people call it a piece of crap. I know that there are many time skips making it hard to decipher. And yet I still watch it. So guys, we all have different thoughts of this anime. I am not hating on anyone because the people who hate it are speaking the truth, and the people who like it... Well they just like it. Well, I hate SAO. But there is an explanation for Klein getting to a hospital. He probably had friends who knew he was plating sao as he was seen in the SAO news arrival picture.
Could you imagine if the player with the fastest reflexes in the game gravitated towards a heavy weapon/sword and board, high armour build. You know, so that any kind of miss-step when exploring unknown dungeons and unmapped floors is less likely to result in dying? The only dual wielder in the game would never dual wield.

You know what is unrealistic? Their PC and Helmets running so long, how do they transport people? You are telling me if people noticed your PC not made a restart in that time at all?
