+Kyros Vulk-Oliver It knew what audience it was pandering to, and played its cards well in that sense. Plus, coming out when it did, it honestly didn't have a lot of good anime to compete with. The exact same thing is happening with 'The Asterisk War' right now, just not as severe..... sad, really.
Iffy O So... this anime is for idiots? I've seen tons of Kirito cosplayers at conventions. Do they seriously not care about the tons and tons of flaws SAO has? Maybe they're just mainstream idiotic anime fans who think "ooh! Shonen anime about video games! I want dat!!"
+Kyros Vulk-Oliver I question the taste of anybody who actually likes this anime as well. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's an anime for idiots, but it's clear that most of the show's fans (most not all. I have come across some very intelligent ones, just look at my comment on DX's last SAO video) have highly questionable taste and little regard for good storytelling.
I can understand why some could 'enjoy' it (I know I did, but then again I was simply laughing at it), but I think the amount of praise it's given is definitely unfounded. Even being 99% objective about it, many veteran anime viewers see it sub-par anime, and rightfully so. I think many of the shows fans are also new weeaboos, so I understand how they could glance over the show's flaws. After talking to many of the fans, it's clear that many haven't watched a lot. They don't see the cliches or the tropes, etc. I'm also going to mention that, for my experiences, it seems that many are 16 or under...and amateur gamers... so you're right. It seems as though many are willing to glance over the flaws (many don't even recognize them) to enjoy the gaming references and shonen, and while I absolutely HATE that, I not completely sure I can blame them for it.
The real crime is that most don't seem to recognize this (or their bias toward anything flashy and gaming related) and base their whole opinion of the show on 'personal enjoyment'. The lack of self-awareness is irritating. For example, I love Soul Eater to DEATH (get it?), but I can recognize it's flaws and my unreasonable bias towards the show. I don't go around proclaiming it's 'the best anime ever,' although it's #3 on my 'favorite animes of all time (for now)' list, because I'm completely aware it's not. In terms of writing, character development, animation, ANYTHING really, it's average at best.
Iffy O To tell you the truth I'm... guilty of getting sucked into a generic sub-par anime known as Sekirei (I think that's how it's spelled).
I.. was only interested in it for the fanservice, but it turned out to be one of the most cliched animes I have ever seen. I don't mean to sound like a pervert but I'm a sucker for fanservice, and this one got me good.

To me the biggest plot hole of this series was the amount of players in the new VR world. Kirito playing makes sense, since his motivation is to save his lover and he feels more at home in VR than in real life, but you would think that VR would have a huge stigma in Japan since the incident 2 years ago and most parents would not allow their kids to play if companies would even be bold enough to make a VR game. They even used the same game engine for the new nerve gear or something like that, which would worry me that it could hold player hostage just like SAO.

A good story is about a world where events are happening and the characters have/choose to react to them. A bad story is about the characters and the world is just something that happens to them when they're around. Personally, I refuse to call her Asuna in this season. Instead i refer to her as Ham and Cheese Sandwich because a character within a story is primarily what they can be replaced with without changing the story and Asuna in this season is just something for Protagonist and Antagonist to fight over in order to keep. This entire storyline could be about them fighting over a Ham and Cheese Sandwich and nothing at all would be changed.
Honestly, if the Fairy Dance arc actually was about Kirito and Sugou fighting over a Ham and Cheese sandwich it would've been much more enjoyable because of how ridiculously hilarious it would be. For example, the scene were Sugou molests Asuna in front of Kirito towards the end of the arc was really disturbing. Sugou molesting a ham and cheese sandwich would be... well, probably also really disturbing but at the same time hilarious as fuck.

Asuna has always been a bad character for me. People keep saying how she’s “strong and independent” in the first season, but if you actually look at it, it’s never actually shown that she’s as strong as Kirito. And even then, the reason of why she’s so overpowered is also never explained. Kirito is a beta tester and cleared several dozen floors before anyone else during beta testing so he has more experience with the game. He’s also a solo player, which in SAO, the only logical explanation of why people would actually insist on solo playing is that you can get to keep all the sweet loot for yourself. Asuna is in a guild, so she should level up slower then Kirito due to the fact that exp points and money are shared with who knows how many people.

well if you look closely, in the first episode when they learn they are trapped there and use the mirror, you can see lisbeth in the crowd and she had her normal hair. also in her shop there is a pic of her and her old friends that died and she had her normal hair in the pic. so im guessing she some how got it dyed

Slight nitpick at 8:22 they actually do state why kiroto's class is inferior.
His class specializes in treasure hunting and general thief like skills. The weakness is that they are worse In combat.

Yeah, they blatantly contradict themselves. I'd go as far as to call it a plothole.
The demon isn't combat effective. But he seems to be the only member of that race, so the players were confused as to if it boosted his power. Clearly he was just using it to induce fear in the other players.
(Although, it's been a solid 2 years since I watched SAO, maybe it does legitimately boost his power).
OR his godlike stats from SAO transferred over to a game that ppl have only been playing for like a few days to a few weeks. He's been grinding litterally non-stop for two years in SAO and became one of the best players. A bunch of pub outfits with standardized stats is gonna be stomped no matter what. Doesn't make it any shittier, tho.
The problem is that demon that's suppose to only be fear inducing killed like (I don't remember exactly how many) at least three people. They seem to imply that it's an illusion but it sure doesn't act like one :/
I read that the shit writing of the female character is because the writer doesn't know how to write female characters who don't love kirito, i feel like this is cause he wishes he was kirito but no one is kirito, they'd be hated by just about anyone.
I thought the reason they said the Kirito's fairy race sucks is because it has crappy combat stats and magic. Which is complete BS because the class is obviously a rouge archtype which everyone knows can be complete powerhouses with high evade and high crit chance. Pretty much glass cannons. In some games crit hits ignore armor. How a community of "experienced" gamers can't see the value in that is beyond me.
It's also BS because they say illusion magic is just that, an illusion, then Kirito uses it to destroy that squadron of players. Complete nonsense.

The GGO arc, and only the GGO arc itself, is better than the Fairy Dance arc, by virtue of us not having to sit through erotically drawn scenes of Asuna being sexually molested and having everything short of rape done to her, but SAO 2 is still complete Shit.
GGO itself is just as badly written as the Aincrad arc, if not worse at times, Calibur is horrendous and as bad as Fairy Dance, and don't fucking get me started on Mother's Rosario =_=;;

It's funny how the author tried too hard to make Kirito sympathetic. At the end, he only makes the main character, the so-called ‘gilded hero’, come out as a sociopath more than anythign resembling a hero.
The episode 24 it's the one that concers me the most.
Sugou it's not as bad as Kayaba in terms of morality. Sugou it's just a cartoony villain with some unhealthy obsession with Asuna, that's all, whatever he was doing was not noxious for a person or two; Kayaba was responsible for the death of hundreds for reasons yet to be explained by the author, and considering how his writting it's somehow worse than Meyer's, he probably never will.
Yet, Kirito glorifies him by saying that he ‘Never run away’.
He's basically saying something like ‘Hitler did nothing wrong’ but completely serious _because he never run away_.
And then, he does the most one of the most morally questionable thing I have ever seen a supposed hero do in a anime, granted, it could have been a perfect momento to give Kirito some sort of moral dilemma moment about torturing someone aftewards or some PTSD (granted it happens in season 2 but for reasons completely unrelated), but it never happens! It's never adressed by him or Asuna the fact that he viciously tortured someone to the point of causing said person partial blindess in real life!
Even Asuna doesn't seem concerned _at all_ by the fact that the person she loves it's acting like a complete sociopath!
Kirito acts completely normal after the incident!
Hell, in said scene, when he grabs Sugou by the hair, the fucking antagonist of this arc is fucking crying in horror while Kirito's just looking at him completely indifferent. Like if he's enjoying every second of it! Psychopaths gain satisfaction through antisocial behavior, and do not experience shame, guilt, or remorse for their actions. Psychopaths lack a sense of guilt or remorse for any harm they may have caused others, instead rationalizing the behavior, blaming someone else, or denying it outright.
Kirito is a fucking sociopath.
Most of his actions in this arc demonstrate that he's in fact fucking evil with capital fucking E. He even wears black! Black in japanese culture represents death, destruction, doom, fear and sorrow. Do you really think that any of this traits are part of a gilded hero? I don't fucking think so.

There's a running theme of incest all across anime that isn't limited to hentai. Suguha's presence is not only annoying and creepy, she contributes jack fucking shit to the 'story.' And since Kirito is on a mission to save his "girlfriend" I don't even know why this stupid plot point dragged on so long.

A better reason for the existence for Alfheim Online.
In order to attempt to save the players trapped in SAO, the government demanded Sugo's company to create a second game as a test subject a few weeks after the incident. They will take that game and experiment it in an attempt to hack it to free the victims. After the SAO victims were freed, Alfheim Online is released as a proper game trying to win back the public opinion on the VRMMORPG genre video game. And it has the reassurance from the government, so some people gave it a try and became hooked to it.

At least most people (even mega SAO fans) can admit that this was terrible... but I can't wait to see the butthurt ones seek out this video, knowing that it's going to bash SAO, to simply dislike this it in a sorry attempt to throw off the like/dislike ratio.
It amazes me that SAO could get even worse than it already it was. Now, I only know a decent amount about gaming and technology, but even I laughed at their 'logic' (I wonder if I should even call it that); but again, I don't think that the gaming aspect of SAO bothered me half as much as it did you (although yes, it was incredibly stupid and I did notice). It was the absence of plot, decent writing, and plain common sense that got to me (and, surprisingly enough, many former rabid SAO fans). Logic and reason be damned! If anybody wants to comment about it or ask me why below, feel free... but, I honestly don't even think I have to explain my reasoning on this.
Glad you did manage to mention what little they did do right in this arc at the end. Even though I don't care for this anime (Although SAO is decent for what it is, I still hate it), that was nice.

I think that this anime was the one that cemented my utter disgust towards the idea of shock value for the sake of shock value. What they did to Asuna there is...beyond forgiveness.

If you want to rad an actual good version of SAO, read the Progressive Light Novels. They pretty much shit on anything having to do with the parent series. Reki actually seems to know a little about RPG's, Kirito and Asuna's romance is actually developed slowly and is believable, and Kirito himself actually has a god damn personality.

Raider88 (Akıncı88) a.k.a The Critical Raider. Progressive is basically the Aincrad arc done right. Each book only covers 1-2 floors of the game and progresses at a much better pace. The only thing that sucks s that only 1 book comes out a year. Only 3 books have been released (aka the first 4 floors) so far, so the series is gonna take forever to conclude.

The entire idea of the VR genre being alive after all the SAO deaths is the one thing I couldn't ignore throughout the entire arc.
SAO is terrible, but by no means is it worse then Boku no pico.
+liban ali (ninjamaster5436) I'd say it is from a writing perspective. SAO also has a lot more room to fuck up because it's longer. Not to say Boku no Pico is well written or anything, because it isn't. It's garbage in that regard, and its sequel is even worse.

King Pin I've seen it, and its sequel. Sat down to watch with other folks, and we cringed so hard we entered another dimension. The subject material often blinds people to the poor writing, which is unfortunate. It doesn't get the hate it deserves in that regard.

ngl the people in charge of the anime was big brain in putting it in netflix where newer anime watchers don't know exactly what good "writing" is and they got my newer anime friends hooked.
For as trash as -this arc- _the whole series_ is, I kind of understand the logic behind having a school just for SAO survivors. It's the most efficient way of getting thousands of student caught up with their studies. Indeed, it's likely they all need refreshers on material they already did, since they were liable to have forgotten it. Rather than have them all struggle separately to catch up in their individual schools, just put them in one place and declare a do-over.
Further, it makes it easier to transition the survivors back into society. The school can keep counselors, specializing in PTSD and fully briefed about SAO's environment, on hand in the dozens. People who understand the unique traumas the survivors have, and can help them through it. The school would also promote understanding amongst its student population, who all know intimately what each other went through, and wouldn't subject each other to social stigma. The game's fellow players were each others' support network all throughout their imprisonment, so it's only reasonable to let them remain in contact, rather than breaking them up.
Granted, I'm sure the actual series explores none of this. I'm dead certain it was a decision made specifically to allow all the old characters to hang out in the real world. But the idea could have merit, even were it mainly done for the sake of shameless contrivance.
One thing I never understood is, if you are a strong melee in game if you have irl strength, but what about magic?
Do you get better at magic in the game by waving your arms around irl??

One thing: When you talk about the Spriggins being weaker classes, there was one thing that popped in my mind. Another character in the show says that Spriggins excel in illusion magic, meaning they are a more stealth based class of warrior. (Which also explains their black attire)

Frankly as someone who’s actually read the light novels the anime insults my intelligence even more because some of the stuff they glossed over in the anime was pretty important for context and they had no excuse to do so when there’s already a fuck ton of stuff they could remove
You should keep this up, cuz the second half of the second season is actually fairly good, so it would be nice to see your analytical skills shows the plotholes there. This stuff is gold for people who are trying to write stories cuz they can see what mistakes NOT to make and SAO makes a lot of mistakes.

In the light novel, it is even mentioned that the character customization in Alfheim Online is fucking RANDOM. Then you have to pay to have some of your character traits changed (if you want to change the hair you have to pay, and if you want to change the nose you have pay again). Fucking sick.

I think that Sugou Nobuyuki is still far better villain than Kayaba Akihiko because at least he has some reasons to do all this shit although those reasons could be sum up as "money and bitches". But that is still better than "I dunno. I forgot. Lol cya suckers." which was basically what Kayaba gave us.

SAO is BS for another reason also. I will use Destiny as an example to explain my point. So if you have played the first DLC to destiny, then you know that there is a raid where you have to defeat a boss called Crota. Well the only fucking problem is that he gives you a sword to use that his race made and it is the only way to defeat him. He also gives you a magic chalice that you need to heal so that you can beat him. This isn't the only example, but it is the best to prove my point. In SAO many times the villains give the main blank slate (Perfect for projection.) the means to defeat them. Specifically the one AI bitch.
That intro with the Stone Cold theme was priceless.
After Suguha introduced to fall into the harem as well, I finally dropped this anime for the first time, I knew that this anime won't get any better anytime soon, but the hype is still lit back then like... wut? So I decided to continue, but man... I hate being right sometimes... but luckily it's started to evolved into the 'it's so bad it's good' type of anime somewhere along the line and I managed to finish it

Wait a second here. You said they claim they just pulled all code and assets from SAO right? But SAO didn't use any magic if I remember correctly yet this thing got magic and swordplay. That means SAO got perfectly working Magic that was never used. Why? Why create magic and never use it, and how can they say they just used SAO assets if it wasn't in the code from the start because its clear they had to make it then?

You never touched on how Asuna was SOMEHOW a fucking damsel in distress when she's arguably stronger than Kirito. Even with just her fists, since how much of a pussy Sugou is, she could easily just beast the fuck out of him as soon as soon as he's in the cage with her in the first time. You can say his admin rights would help him somehow, but how? Sure he can spawn in a weapon or use the gravity trick, but due to bad writing. Asuna would probably still be able to get out of that situation. Everything else you said was about my mindset on the Arc. But there is another thing I'd like to point out. Something good. Suguha actually knew that it's wrong to have a crush on Kirito, which is actually good writing and never happens in anime, it's incest, but just because of that, it's actually incest done right. Or as right as you can make it since its a bad stereotype. There probably is better out there, but it's the better of the trope, but everything else about her is bullshit. So, it just makes her character bad and almost wanting to take back what I said, but I'm not, that's my opinion of the Alfheim Arc, and agreeing with you for everything else. Except for the real life encounter with Kirito and Sugou, I liked that scene a lot except how Kirito dropped the knife. So that's my opinion, in conclusion Sword Art Online is still a piece of shit, but there's one really "good" thing about it, it's super easy to fix. As you can see in the Abridged series, but I hate Abridged anything because of how long every episode takes to come out or they are always unfinished, that's my only major problem with the Abridged, it's not finished and won't be for probably a very long time. SAO is shit, and in 2019, anime is shit.
