I think Bruce is great, but VV was the first replacement after Ace left and did it so well that a lot of fans think he actually saved the band (me amongst them). Copying is not as hard as replacing an original member with a completely new style and sound, hence neither Bruce, Mark or Tommy had it more difficult than VV. They came when the band had already steered course and did their part in Kisstory.
Ace is only one who can do his own style of his music in kiss and no one can ever copy his style! Not even Tommy THAYER! NEED TO BRING BACK ACE FREHLEY
The last time they brought ACE back, he could only remember 17 songs, was constantly late to the point the band was constantly in danger of missing shows all together because of ACE, he ain't coming back, he had his chance TWICE
I never blamed Tommy personally. If it weren't Tommy in Ace's costume, it would've been somebody else. I just hate that aspect of it: anybody pretending to be Ace (or Peter).
Yes he can be a good guitar player , but never will be Ace . But at the same time I think this is just a way for Gene and Paul to get back at Ace for walking out on them. After all they we're all like family, and who knows more how to get under your skin than a member of your family.
It wasn't Tommy's choice to use Ace's makeup. It was Gene & Paul that made that choice. It's just sad to see Tommy along with Eric getting hated on because of something that wasn't their fault.
They are partially to blame if they go along with it. Personally, I don't care anymore...KISS are over to me. It is still a shame though to think about what could have been had they been able to have their own makeup.
If it wasn't for Tommy, Ace would have probably sounded real bad on KISS's reunion tour, since it was Tommy who had to teach Ace his guitar parts. How bout that?
@@SHOUTband If that's really what happened, then yes, I agree. I don't think anyone truly knows about the rights to the makeup though and how (if) they were sold away. They could have been tricked into signing some contract not realizing they were giving up the rights to them in the process, who knows. Maybe they were in a really bad state of mind when they last left KISS and were so beaten down that they just didn't care anymore. Either way, it's a shame.

Technical skill is fine. But there are many players, Ace among them, that are less technically sophisticated but have a great tone, style, and sense of feel that I would rather listen to than many of the "hotrods". Yngwie Malmsteen could play circles around Angus Young, but I'd rather listen to Angus. That's why sometimes I think it's pointless to talk about one guitar is being "better" than another, at least in the context of the technical. Music is all about sound and feel. You can't compare musicians to each other on spec, the way you compare two sports cars.
He's a great tribute player, but Ace's contribution, his playing, his rawness, etc made Kiss the icon they are, Period... unfortunately that's it... tribute guitarist.
Which makes sense, his intentions were to not really be in a band trying to make it but man what a great gig he got, hard to say no to that. @@hawkgeoff
Hi everyone. Non musician here. Pushing 60. Ouch. Enjoyed KISS immensely as a teen. Is Ace that great a guitarist? Looking back, I think his solos sounded repetitive. Not knocking the man; loved him then, love him now. If his solos are, in fact, repetitive and Tommy has trouble with them, as I believe someone mentioned here, what does that say of Tommy's abilities? As an aside, I so miss the early days of the first three studio albums. Wish I could have seen one of the early gigs. KISS touring with backing tracks? That's painful. I'd like a refund, please. Maybe next Britney Spears could choreograph their dance moves. Haha. Seriously though, if they thought of touring again, maybe Paul could take a year to get in shape (cardio) and hire a vocal coach. He's got a great voice but he beats the hell out of it. I'm surprised there's any of it left. We want him to sing from his ... diaphragm. Every time I think maybe they're old enough that they might want to pack it in, I think of Mick's endless energy.
Here's the thing.....at least when Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent were in the band, they had their OWN make up and persona, all be it Paul came up with Vinnie's "ark" look. But even still, it was a totally different look than Ace's spaceman! Eric Carr was a Fox instead of a Cat, and it fit him well. Gene and Paul know that no other make up personas would work or be as recognizable than Peter and Ace's. So since Eric Carr's death in 1991, Eric Singer has been their drummer and Tommy Thayer took over after Bruce Kulick left the band in the late 1990's. But the problem is, they put Singer and Thayer in Peter and Ace's make-up and persona's, so it wasn't an original look for either one. They just became "stand-in's" to those likenesses. To any Kiss fan 35+ years or older, you know it's not the real Peter and Ace on stage, and THAT'S where I feel Gene and Paul are doing a disservice to the fans, especially the older 35+ year old crowd that know better. It's kind of a funny irony bc Gene and Paul don't want Peter and Ace back in the band, and yet they know Kiss won't work without their make-up and costume likenesses lol.

KISS ended for me when Peter and Ace left the band. Period. They can't be replaced, they made the band what it became, the magic happened with Peter, Paul, Gene and ACE. Anything after that is just a KISS cover band.

any Tommy fans out there who disagrees with Ace on Bruce being a better guitar player needs to listen to Kiss Alive 3. Bruce kicked ass. His Brother Bob played on Kiss Alive 2. Listen to the solo on Larger than life. That solo was better than anything Tommy has ever played. I didn't care much for the cheesy era of Kiss in the 80's and 90's. But there were still a lot of good tunes from them. Vinny Vincent was really good, I did enjoy his take, and he was original. Young and Wasted, and Not for the innocent, were his greatest tunes, in my opinion. Bruce shined best on Revenge. But again his take on the original kiss solo's were straight out bad ass on kiss alive 3. there's not an ace fan around that wouldn't enjoy listening to that album. I will always prefer Ace, as he is, and always will be the only original. and I would rather hear him play and screw up a few notes that he wrote, than hear any want a be play them right. That's another reason I love Jimmy Page. he's not always perfect, but for gods sake man. He's Jimmy Page. I don't want to hear some want a be play it. I love jimmy, as I love Ace. You cant replace a band member and have that person become...literally become the person who left. You have to have your own identity. KISS became a brand when they did this bs. And if you call it the NEW KISS then make it new!! Dont replicate the original and have the same stage act same characters..and call it new.. Ace and Peter have the novelty of being the originals. Peter was ok at best. Peter couldn’t handle the trappings of rock star life. Fired? Quit? It almost doesn’t matter. Kiss moved on with far better players in every way. Better attitude. Better musicianship. More passion. When you saw Kiss with either Eric playing drums (and I’ve kiss with all 3 drummers over the years), they genuinely looked happy to be there and were having a good time. Ace is a different story. The man can play. No doubt about it. Will never be duplicated. Agree with all of it. That is a different story for another time. However Ace left. Did he have drug and alcohol problems? Yes. Did it get in the way of the music? It did. Could they have worked it out? Quite probably. But it didn’t work out that way. So we’re left to deal with what we have - Ace left. So Kiss picks up and moves on. Look at it this way - Tom Brady one of the jest quarterbacks in the history of football. Love the patriots or not, this is fact. Tom Brady leaves. Goes to another team. Are the patriots supposed to change their name because they got another quarter? No of course not.
Tommy Thayer is a skilled, and highly competent guitar player, and the reason he plays Ace's solos note by note is that those are his instructions from Paul and Gene, particularly when attempting to recreate the band from the 1970s in makeup. Bruce Kulick is also a very talented guitarist, but when he was in the band, he had no such limitations. Therefore, Ace's criticism is stupid, immature bullshit. Sorry Ace, you're still my favorite member, but this time you phuq'ed it up.
lot of fans don't give Tommy or Eric a fair shake. both guys are amazng musicians in their own right. BUT in KISS, they were hired to perform as characters.. basically, it's a job. and as in any job, they have to do what their bosses tell them, including wearing the uniform

Yeah, Tommy had to teach Ace everything he knows.... that's why Ace is the only successful member of Kiss solo, and has the highest charting solo album of any member of Kiss (Space Invader). Post reunion faux-Kiss fanboys, give it up. Ace still writes and records music that rocks. What calls itself Kiss now plays along to backing tracks while Thayer recreates Ace's old riffs and solos. Kiss has been dead for years, and the corpse is still walking around. It died when Simmons and Stanley missed the opportunity to record a real Kiss reunion album, and because of egos and greed, gave us Psycho Circus instead. From there on it fell apart and became a sad parody of itself.
You are on the mark for most of this . But I like Psycho , but they should have made it a real band effort and even Gene has said that , but Paul ???? He runs the outfit and would not play nice.
What Ace doesn't like about Tommy is that he can play KISS songs way better than he can these days & can blow him off the stage...don't get me wrong here, I'm an Ace fan since KISS first came out & I don't like that they have these guys in Ace & Peter's make up, but I saw Ace in Pensacola in 2018 & he literally didn't even know one end of the guitar he was wearing from the other...The show was a complete rip off. $50 tickets & $30 tshirts & he couldn't play...While I still love Ace's contributions to the band back when he was a contributing member of the band, I'll never pay money to see him again...
Bruce was never really in competition with Ace as yes he played Ace songs live but on albums like Revenge and Carnival of Souls he was so far removed from Ace it was a different band. I disliked the 80’s stuff Tears are boring etc. They even ripped off Misty Mountain Hop on one album.
Tommy is just doing what Paul and Gene tell him and pay him to do. During the reunion and 1st farewell tours, Paul and Gene saw the money that the makeup era brought in. That's why it was continued.

Could someone replace Slash in GNR? No. It is the same thing. For example Kulick and Vincent played their own style. Thayer just try to play like Ace and it doesn't work. I don't respect that.

Ace doesn't want them to take him back. He said he'd be open to taking the stage with them if they were doing a farewell performance, but Ace doesn't want to rejoin KISS.

Just to clarify to everyone reading this, I AM a fan of BOTH Ace and Tommy, I think they're both very inspiring musicians especially for me as a guitar player. I understand why people prefer Ace and Peter since they are the original members despite being replaced. However, to the fools who are saying "Tommy thinks he is Ace", "It's now a cover band", "Tommy will never be Ace" seriously just stop. He is doing his job, Ace had to be replaced for different reasons, and Tommy knows he's not Ace, he knows he is Tommy Thayer and he does a pretty good job, anyone here would love to be a member of KISS, their childhood dream becoming a real life job and getting payed $$$$$$$. When Ace was "fired" from Kiss back in '82....why did they drag him around for a year doing live promo appearances for Creatures and put his picture on the album cover if they were so anxious to be rid of him? Some interviews have them saying they fired Ace as a useless drunk, others have them claiming "we did not want him to leave....we were hoping he'd stay". Get the inconsistency? Simmons and Stanley say whatever will suit their purposes at the time. It is just as likely Ace quit because he was sick of their crap, and he wanted to record rock records again instead of prog and Disco.
I think Tommy is a great guitar player and not a bad vocalist but like Ace said, all he was doing was pretending to be him and honestly, the Spaceman makeup really looked stupid on him. He didn't have the right face for it and personally I think if he was allowed to be his own character and play the way he wanted to, he would have definitely been a fan favorite.

It was a marketing Tactic, to push them off more as Super Hero characters and move on from the signature Black and Silver team Color's. Paul being outlined in purple, Gene in Red, Peter in green, and Ace in Blue.Thus Peter's green eye shadow, and Ace with Blue eyeshadow. gene wore a red cape and Paul wore Purple get ups. Ace only had an allergic reaction once, by falling asleep with his makeup on in a Hotel, to my knowledge. So If that were the Case with Tommy, then why not paint around his eyes with silver? If he's not allergic than it shouldn't be a problem. I know my "Kisstory" Dude. Do youre Homework and you will find all of this info to be Correct. 😎✌
Tommy doesn't copy Ace's drinking and drugs and blowing off the fans by letting them down due to not showing up for rehearsals and not showing up for recording sessions. Ace and Peter should start a band called the "No Shows". Sheesh 😭👍

Ace is the place for me! ;). Ace has the talent, originality, the licks, the style, the swagger, the attitude, the "it" factor. Same thing applies to Peter Criss. Eric Singer doesn't have all that like Peter does either.

i love ace frehley but he needs to understand that he made his choices, Tommy is an excellent guitarist and manages to make up for his lack, after all it is the truth. Just like Eric Singer is perfect. Why did they replace Criss with Carr who created his own persona of the Fox. Yet Frehley was replaced by Thayer who kept the spaceman persona instead of creating his own...
They replaced Peter with Eric Carr in 1980. Vinnie Vincent replaced Ace when he left the first time in 1982. Paul and Gene were in a different mindset about the makeup at that time, they took off the makeup less then a year after Vinnie joined. Eric Singer and Tommy joined in 2000 and 2002. By then they had done the no makeup and reunion with the original characters. They realized they would make more money with the two people in their makeup then two new characters. Which is true, it doesn’t bother me as much as it used to but I see why it does for a lot of people. Peter bless him can’t do two hour shows anymore on the drums and Ace has only in recent years really comeback playing wise. Tommy and Eric are great players that’s undeniable and that to me is just as important as who is or isn’t in the makeup
Actually, Ace sold his soul to drugs and booze and it determined his life. And he sold his soul to Paul and Gene to try and make some money again the second time around while he was having what some fans call a successful solo career.

Ace is correct, Bruce is by far the best ever in KISS, no doubt. If Ace had behaved himself, showed up on time, put forth the effort, kept himself sober and tried to better himself, he'd still have the job. Tommy seems to be a good person and a capable player. He copies Ace, because that's what Gene and Paul believe the fans want. What he could do if he was allowed, is unknown. It's evident that Paul and Gene still have a place for Ace in their lives. Paul played on the 1st "Origins Album". Gene co-wrote some material on "Origins 2" They asked him to do the KISS Cruise. Gene toured with him on the "Vault" sales tour! Ace is my favorite no doubt. But as an adult, I've grown to know he's flawed and usually his own worst enemy. Yes, Gene and Paul are control freaks and have larger than life egos, but they kept the band alive. They couldn't make it more than 4 years with as a reunited band. Ace could have stayed if he had shown interest and conquered his demons. He and others say he's sober now, shame it wasn't then. The original 4 had a special chemistry.
I feel bad for tommy too. He COULD have been in a League of his own like ace , bruce, vinnie or even mark st john but it seems gene and paul are no longer about being creative and more about being paid. Its sad to see kiss go out like this but 🤷🏻♂️ it is what it is curly , ACK !!!

@@SHOUTband The key to creating new characters would be to make them similar enough (in spirit and vibe) to the originals that average people wouldn't notice a huge difference, the KISS appeal would be the same to them. As long as they are unique/different enough to satisfy the true die-hard KISS fans it would work and not come across as cheesy. I've come up with designs myself that would work perfectly, If I can so could Gene & Paul. I like The Fox character, but visually it was totally inferior to the Catman design. The key again is to create something that has equal impact as the original while still possessing an identity of its own. The Fox and Ankh designs were probably rushed when they were created...even so, I think those were 1000 times more magical than seeing two impersonators.
What I like about Tommy there is he plays your guitar solos better than you do now it’s that simple I was blessed to see Ace freely in 1977 watching him now is just simply cringe
Maybe some years ago..but Ace has been sober for a long time. Just listen to his last 2 originals albums. He sounds great.Also live in gigs on youtube Ace sounds great again.

Ace does not lease his make up to kiss... he and Peter both sold the rights to their makeup to kiss after the farewell tour was over for what Gene and Paul say was really a cheap price... If Peter and Ace would not have sold the rights to kiss then Tommy and Eric would not be their character today...doesn't really make sense for Peter and Ace to be mad with them when it is clearly their fault even though I don't agree with Tommy and Eric copying their characters.... I'm just glad I saw the farewell tour with the original members... To me that was the end of kiss and I will never support the version that they are now
I read that Ronnie James Dio, canned Tracy G, because his solos were so far off from the originals. Of course when I listen, I want to hear the solo as close to the original.
Okay. I love Ace, but KISS did two albums that don't feature Ace at all. Tommy was a fan anyway, and he's paying tribute to Ace. Remember also that Tommy was Ace in a tribute band. He knew the solos and shows that.
Kiss did way more than 2 albums that don't feature Ace at all, Creatures, Lick It Up, Animalize, Asylum, Crazy Nights, Hot In The Shade, Revenge, Alive 3, Carnival of Souls, Sonic Boom, and Monster.
If Ace Frehley wanted to be with Kiss at the ever Last show he shouldn't have left Kiss in the first place, he should show some respect to Tommy and allow him to play the last show, and Bruce Kulick should be at the last ever Kiss show too, sorry Ace you don't own Kiss so don't dictate to Paul and Gene on who can or can't play at the very last Kiss concert, have some thought for Eric Carr, who can't be there, Ace you're so petty and you should grow up.

I think Bruce is great, but VV was the first replacement after Ace left and did it so well that a lot of fans think he actually saved the band (me amongst them). Copying is not as hard as replacing an original member with a completely new style and sound, hence neither Bruce, Mark or Tommy had it more difficult than VV. They came when the band had already steered course and did their part in Kisstory.
Bruce is 1000 times better than Ace and maybe Tommy who is a really great player. Bruce took Ace's solos and embellished them.

To Gene and Paul, the two of them are KISS. Everyone else are just employees.
It wasn't Tommy's choice to use Ace's makeup. It was Gene & Paul that made that choice. It's just sad to see Tommy along with Eric getting hated on because of something that wasn't their fault.
They are partially to blame if they go along with it. Personally, I don't care anymore...KISS are over to me. It is still a shame though to think about what could have been had they been able to have their own makeup.

They could have been tricked into signing some contract not realizing they were giving up the rights to them in the process, who knows. Maybe they were in a really bad state of mind when they last left KISS and were so beaten down that they just didn't care anymore. Either way, it's a shame.

Technical skill is fine. But there are many players, Ace among them, that are less technically sophisticated but have a great tone, style, and sense of feel that I would rather listen to than many of the "hotrods". Yngwie Malmsteen could play circles around Angus Young, but I'd rather listen to Angus. That's why sometimes I think it's pointless to talk about one guitar is being "better" than another, at least in the context of the technical. Music is all about sound and feel. You can't compare musicians to each other on spec, the way you compare two sports cars.

Hi everyone. Non musician here. Pushing 60. Ouch. Enjoyed KISS immensely as a teen.
Is Ace that great a guitarist? Looking back, I think his solos sounded repetitive. Not knocking the man; loved him then, love him now.
If his solos are, in fact, repetitive and Tommy has trouble with them, as I believe someone mentioned here, what does that say of Tommy's abilities?
As an aside, I so miss the early days of the first three studio albums. Wish I could have seen one of the early gigs.

Here's the thing.....at least when Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent were in the band, they had their OWN make up and persona, all be it Paul came up with Vinnie's "ark" look. But even still, it was a totally different look than Ace's spaceman! Eric Carr was a Fox instead of a Cat, and it fit him well.
Gene and Paul know that no other make up personas would work or be as recognizable than Peter and Ace's. So since Eric Carr's death in 1991, Eric Singer has been their drummer and Tommy Thayer took over after Bruce Kulick left the band in the late 1990's.
But the problem is, they put Singer and Thayer in Peter and Ace's make-up and persona's, so it wasn't an original look for either one. They just became "stand-in's" to those likenesses.
To any Kiss fan 35+ years or older, you know it's not the real Peter and Ace on stage, and THAT'S where I feel Gene and Paul are doing a disservice to the fans, especially the older 35+ year old crowd that know better.
It's kind of a funny irony bc Gene and Paul don't want Peter and Ace back in the band, and yet they know Kiss won't work without their make-up and costume likenesses lol.

But the irony is that Gene and Paul know that the make-up era Kiss doesn't, and won't work WITHOUT Ace and Peter's make-up likenesses, and yet they don't want either in the band anymore. Thus, they hired stand in's to "be" the Cat Man and Space Man. That's my point, regardless of who wins the rights or whatever.
I like Tommy, he likes to think things true for the most part to the beginning. However, he has his own flare and style that I think suits the band.

any Tommy fans out there who disagrees with Ace on Bruce being a better guitar player needs to listen to Kiss Alive 3. Bruce kicked ass. His Brother Bob played on Kiss Alive 2. Listen to the solo on Larger than life. That solo was better than anything Tommy has ever played. I didn't care much for the cheesy era of Kiss in the 80's and 90's. But there were still a lot of good tunes from them. Vinny Vincent was really good, I did enjoy his take, and he was original. Young and Wasted, and Not for the innocent, were his greatest tunes, in my opinion. Bruce shined best on Revenge. But again his take on the original kiss solo's were straight out bad ass on kiss alive 3.
there's not an ace fan around that wouldn't enjoy listening to that album. I will always prefer Ace, as he is, and always will be the only original. and I would rather hear him play and screw up a few notes that he wrote, than hear any want a be play them right. That's another reason I love Jimmy Page. he's not always perfect, but for gods sake man. He's Jimmy Page. I don't want to hear some want a be play it. I love jimmy, as I love Ace. Ace and Peter have the novelty of being the originals. Peter was ok at best. Peter couldn’t handle the trappings of rock star life. Fired? Quit? It almost doesn’t matter. Kiss moved on with far better players in every way. Better attitude. Better musicianship. More passion. When you saw Kiss with either Eric playing drums (and I’ve kiss with all 3 drummers over the years), they genuinely looked happy to be there and were having a good time.
Ace is a different story. The man can play. No doubt about it. Will never be duplicated. Agree with all of it. That is a different story for another time. However Ace left. Did he have drug and alcohol problems? Yes. Did it get in the way of the music? It did. Could they have worked it out? Quite probably. But it didn’t work out that way. So we’re left to deal with what we have - Ace left. So Kiss picks up and moves on.
Look at it this way - Tom Brady one of the jest quarterbacks in the history of football. Love the patriots or not, this is fact. Tom Brady leaves. Goes to another team. Are the patriots supposed to change their name because they got another quarter? No of course not.

Tommy Thayer is a skilled, and highly competent guitar player, and the reason he plays Ace's solos note by note is that those are his instructions from Paul and Gene, particularly when attempting to recreate the band from the 1970s in makeup. Bruce Kulick is also a very talented guitarist, but when he was in the band, he had no such limitations. Therefore, Ace's criticism is stupid, immature bullshit. Sorry Ace, you're still my favorite member, but this time you phuq'ed it up.

Tommy does not play Ace's solos note for note. Even Tommy has that. Anyone listening to him live knows that. He does capture the vibe and spirit of those songs which is what he shoukd be doing. So pick a side KISSARMY very close to original or freedom to create new and possibly better solos changing classic KISS songs forever??

Yeah, Tommy had to teach Ace everything he knows.... that's why Ace is the only successful member of Kiss solo, and has the highest charting solo album of any member of Kiss (Space Invader). Post reunion faux-Kiss fanboys, give it up. Ace still writes and records music that rocks. What calls itself Kiss now plays along to backing tracks while Thayer recreates Ace's old riffs and solos. Kiss has been dead for years, and the corpse is still walking around. It died when Simmons and Stanley missed the opportunity to record a real Kiss reunion album, and because of egos and greed, gave us Psycho Circus instead. From there on it fell apart and became a sad parody of itself.
You are on the mark for most of this . But I like Psycho , but they should have made it a real band effort and even Gene has said that , but Paul ???? He runs the outfit and would not play nice.
They have all had solo success. Ace may indeed be the most successful, but they all made money off side projects.
What Ace doesn't like about Tommy is that he can play KISS songs way better than he can these days & can blow him off the stage...don't get me wrong here, I'm an Ace fan since KISS first came out & I don't like that they have these guys in Ace & Peter's make up, but I saw Ace in Pensacola in 2018 & he literally didn't even know one end of the guitar he was wearing from the other...The show was a complete rip off. $50 tickets & $30 tshirts & he couldn't play...While I still love Ace's contributions to the band back when he was a contributing member of the band, I'll never pay money to see him again...
Bruce was never really in competition with Ace as yes he played Ace songs live but on albums like Revenge and Carnival of Souls he was so far removed from Ace it was a different band. I disliked the 80’s stuff Tears are boring etc. They even ripped off Misty Mountain Hop on one album.
Ace Frehley is still the best Kiss guitar 🎸 player. Neither Bruce Kulick nor Tommy Thayer are not great as Ace Frehley at all.

There were times they had to have Tommy in makeup and costume ready to go onstage because Ace might not been there on time if at all, or too messed up to perform.
I can't think of anyone that would turn down putting on the makeup and costume and being on stage every night imitating Ace Frehley and getting paid for it.

Just to clarify to everyone reading this, I AM a fan of BOTH Ace and Tommy, I think they're both very inspiring musicians especially for me as a guitar player. I understand why people prefer Ace and Peter since they are the original members despite being replaced. However, to the fools who are saying "Tommy thinks he is Ace", "It's now a cover band", "Tommy will never be Ace" seriously just stop. He is doing his job, Ace had to be replaced for different reasons, and Tommy knows he's not Ace, he knows he is Tommy Thayer and he does a pretty good job, anyone here would love to be a member of KISS, their childhood dream becoming a real life job and getting payed $$$$$$$. Find another band to listen to.

When Ace was "fired" from Kiss back in '82....why did they drag him around for a year doing live promo appearances for Creatures and put his picture on the album cover if they were so anxious to be rid of him? Some interviews have them saying they fired Ace as a useless drunk, others have them claiming "we did not want him to leave....we were hoping he'd stay". Get the inconsistency? Simmons and Stanley say whatever will suit their purposes at the time. It is just as likely Ace quit because he was sick of their crap, and he wanted to record rock records again instead of prog and Disco.
I think Tommy is a great guitar player and not a bad vocalist but like Ace said, all he was doing was pretending to be him and honestly, the Spaceman makeup really looked stupid on him. He didn't have the right face for it and personally I think if he was allowed to be his own character and play the way he wanted to, he would have definitely been a fan favorite.

Many people want to hear the Kiss solos note for note. I know I do. I'd rather have Ace up there, but Ace shot himself in the foot by all of his substance abuse and unreliability.

He does that because he is allergic to the silver paint and it would get worse around his eyes so he put blue eyeliner around them to counter that. Tommy doesn’t need to because he is not allergic to the paint

It was a marketing Tactic, to push them off more as Super Hero characters and move on from the signature Black and Silver team Color's. Paul being outlined in purple, Gene in Red, Peter in green, and Ace in Blue.Thus Peter's green eye shadow, and Ace with Blue eyeshadow. gene wore a red cape and Paul wore Purple get ups. Ace only had an allergic reaction once, by falling asleep with his makeup on in a Hotel, to my knowledge. So If that were the Case with Tommy, then why not paint around his eyes with silver? If he's not allergic than it shouldn't be a problem. I know my "Kisstory" Dude. Do youre Homework and you will find all of this info to be Correct. 😎✌

i love ace frehley but he needs to understand that he made his choices, Tommy is an excellent guitarist and manages to make up for his lack, after all it is the truth. Just like Eric Singer is perfect.
Tommy will never be Space Ace but he is a wonderful musician and does his job, despite so much criticism, or it would be him or anyone else, Ace made a mistake in the past and cannot judge anyone!

Why did they replace Criss with Carr who created his own persona of the Fox. Yet Frehley was replaced by Thayer who kept the spaceman persona instead of creating his own...
They replaced Peter with Eric Carr in 1980.
Vinnie Vincent replaced Ace when he left the first time in 1982. Paul and Gene were in a different mindset about the makeup at that time, they took off the makeup less then a year after Vinnie joined.
Eric Singer and Tommy joined in 2000 and 2002. By then they had done the no makeup and reunion with the original characters. They realized they would make more money with the two people in their makeup then two new characters. Which is true, it doesn’t bother me as much as it used to but I see why it does for a lot of people. Peter bless him can’t do two hour shows anymore on the drums and Ace has only in recent years really comeback playing wise. Tommy and Eric are great players that’s undeniable and that to me is just as important as who is or isn’t in the makeup

Ace is correct, Bruce is by far the best ever in KISS, no doubt. If Ace had behaved himself, showed up on time, put forth the effort, kept himself sober and tried to better himself, he'd still have the job. Tommy seems to be a good person and a capable player. He copies Ace, because that's what Gene and Paul believe the fans want. What he could do if he was allowed, is unknown. It's evident that Paul and Gene still have a place for Ace in their lives. Paul played on the 1st "Origins Album". Gene co-wrote some material on "Origins 2" They asked him to do the KISS Cruise. Gene toured with him on the "Vault" sales tour! Ace is my favorite no doubt. But as an adult, I've grown to know he's flawed and usually his own worst enemy. Yes, Gene and Paul are control freaks and have larger than life egos, but they kept the band alive. They couldn't make it more than 4 years with as a reunited band. Ace could have stayed if he had shown interest and conquered his demons. He and others say he's sober now, shame it wasn't then. The original 4 had a special chemistry.

@@SHOUTband The key to creating new characters would be to make them similar enough (in spirit and vibe) to the originals that average people wouldn't notice a huge difference, the KISS appeal would be the same to them. As long as they are unique/different enough to satisfy the true die-hard KISS fans it would work and not come across as cheesy. I've come up with designs myself that would work perfectly, If I can so could Gene & Paul. I like The Fox character, but visually it was totally inferior to the Catman design. The key again is to create something that has equal impact as the original while still possessing an identity of its own. The Fox and Ankh designs were probably rushed when they were created...even so, I think those were 1000 times more magical than seeing two impersonators.

Ace does not lease his make up to kiss... he and Peter both sold the rights to their makeup to kiss after the farewell tour was over for what Gene and Paul say was really a cheap price... If Peter and Ace would not have sold the rights to kiss then Tommy and Eric would not be their character today...doesn't really make sense for Peter and Ace to be mad with them when it is clearly their fault even though I don't agree with Tommy and Eric copying their characters.... I'm just glad I saw the farewell tour with the original members... To me that was the end of kiss and I will never support the version that they are now

I read that Ronnie James Dio, canned Tracy G, because his solos were so far off from the originals. Of course when I listen, I want to hear the solo as close to the original.
Okay. I love Ace, but KISS did two albums that don't feature Ace at all. Tommy was a fan anyway, and he's paying tribute to Ace. Remember also that Tommy was Ace in a tribute band. He knew the solos and shows that.
Kiss did way more than 2 albums that don't feature Ace at all, Creatures, Lick It Up, Animalize, Asylum, Crazy Nights, Hot In The Shade, Revenge, Alive 3, Carnival of Souls, Sonic Boom, and Monster.
If Ace Frehley wanted to be with Kiss at the ever Last show he shouldn't have left Kiss in the first place, he should show some respect to Tommy and allow him to play the last show, and Bruce Kulick should be at the last ever Kiss show too, sorry Ace you don't own Kiss so don't dictate to Paul and Gene on who can or can't play at the very last Kiss concert, have some thought for Eric Carr, who can't be there, Ace you're so petty and you should grow up.
