I've said this before on other reactions to this, but here go's - there's no point in regretting something that you didn't regret at the time. Benny might wish he had not released this, but to me it sounds like they were having a blast recording it. They were young, they were just starting, and were already being noticed. It's part of their history and so deserves to be heard. I listen to some of the tracks they recorded towards the end of the 'Break up' and think that 'joy' was missing; indeed that is a 'part' of those tracks, and makes them what they are. I don't mind this song, and it's ok not to like it, and for me it's a 'Once in a while' track'.
Hear hear. I quite like it. I don't think ABBA has done a 'duff' song which I don't think you can say with 99% of the bands world wide. I know I am biased and everyone has their own tastes but I really beleive this. ABBA; SABATON; NIGHTWISH, NIGHTWISH, NIGHTWISH; BEAST IN BLACK; BATTLE BEAST - R U L E O. K.
A few months ago I did switch from Spotify to a refurbished iPod Classic and thus started to build my digital music library. When I went to my parents house for Christmas I ripped many of their old CDs and played the music at the bluetooth box in the living room. When it came to this song (which I also didn't know but straightaway fell in love with) my parents didn't even recognize at first that it was ABBA. It's just completely different from their late softer calmer style but I'm happy it did get produced.
This song is great! , taken in the right context , at the time they did this they were Kids having Fun with thier music , and having a blast being silly!!.. lol.. youthful exuberance!!.. so much fun!!.. Love ABBA!...
First 3 albums were Abba trying to find their identity,Then everything got shaped. They decided (as the guys have said) that they aren't a rock band but pop music was what they felt was the most honest thing they should do.Cause that was what they liked the most. But after you "finish" your Abba journey from RING RING to the VISITORS,you'll just sit back and see from where they started and what they have created.A phenomenal body of work through all this progress.Esp each album that followed from 1976 and after was drastically and greatly different colour to the other. And ALL of them so addictively beautiful and done in such an astonishing way that you'll say WOW!whara legacy they will leave for us.You'll see....
you did it! I love this song, esp. the background of the boys. King Kong song Won't you sing along? Listen to the music and it couldn't go wrong (We do the) King Kong song Gotta sing along Can't you hear the beating of the monkey tom-tom Listen to the rhythm of the King Kong song
😂🤣🤣 The look on your face during the whole song was absolutely priceless! I like this song very much...In my opinion,if the fact is true that Benny "regrets" writing this, l think he is being too self critical. It's a fun, toe tapping melody. Bjorns' voice makes me smile every time..the girls..harmonious as ever. Sure, as we all mature in life we look back and cringe at some things in our past but we evolve and Abbas' musical journey is a treasure to listen to. David, your reaction made me laugh out loud..As l have always said, Abba can do no wrong in my eyes. Thankyou for this reaction, it was awesome!! Early morning with my 5 favourite Swedes! Take care bello! 🤗 Ciao!! 🐵🎹
Yeah I was kinda thrown of the chair on this one lol 😂 But as you say, even if we all have regrets in life, so do artists. But they should not be to hard on themselves. What is done is done, and also, for real, this song is actually NOT that bad! The riff is very catchy and makes you wanna dance a boogie! It is what it is, and let's not forget, it was 1974! Its been a while! Heheheheh, "toe tapping"? See what you did there? 🤣 Thank you Eleonora, have a wonderful day! Ciao bella!
As usually, thanks for a wonderful reaction video. This first time I heard The King Kong Song was about a month after Voyage came out. Like many other people, I was happily playing catch-up, listening to all the ABBA I'd missed. When this played, my reaction was about the same as yours... "What the F*ck!" But then I looked in my rear view mirror. My non-verbal autistic daughter, who is very physical in the way she communicates, sat behind me bouncing from side to side so hard I was literally afraid my SUV might flip. She LOVED it. Despite my sort-of-shock, I replayed it three times for her. Since then, it's still probably her favorite song, and she loves ABBA. Now, I actually look forward to it when it comes time for my Waterloo disc to play. I can see where they were going with it. Had the song caught on as a dance, I can only imagine people bouncing on the dance floor, slumped forward, arms swaying from side-to-side. In any case, it's grown on me. Anything my baby girl loves tends to. :-)
Wow thats amazing! I am so happy for your daughter, that she could experience this song that she came to love so much! Thats so nice! We all need these moments in life. Have a great day Steve!
Ok That settles it. End of discussion. Those Benny selfs who argue; one creating it, that other later regretting it, and all those in between may now go happily to rest 'cause a better judge just helped put things in perspective. We had to get rid of mounts of trendy opinions and written analysis stuff to find out this song is really about being fun, letting go and let loose... all crafted and laced with most of the same voices, instrumentation and stuff that built musical history right besides. We just needed some decades and Jack White to reassess what was in front of our ears since ever. Actually, as mentioned above ´had this song caught on as a dance¨ people would have possibly later realized that its lyrics and actual experience portray a genuine vehicle for those youthful raw emotions to release. It is that or a cheeky parody of such behavior, in the clownish-est Bjorn sense... Like "Dum Dum Diddle" most deprecated Bjorn's songs might convey some of the deepest psychological angles.
ABBAMAN.....loved you reaction to yjis song.you made me laugh soooo much. just priceless . i will guarantee there is no other song that ABBA does thats like this. it is agnetha screaming not frida. as a songwriter i can appreciate bjorn and benny being so creative and imaginative and just making a fun song. if people dont like this just loosen up and take the song for what it is,it was not suppose to be a masterpiece, i bet thet had a hell of a time in the studio recording this, it shows they have a great sense of humor
Decades ago, when I heard this the first time, I didn't like it, because it was so different. Now I love it, because it' s so different. Unlike anything else I've ever heard from them, and the way they all seem to sing like they don't care is so refreshing in their catalogue.
Yeah they really sound like they had and "no F's given" attitude in the studio on this one. Completely free and just making what comes to mind. Thats kind of cool actually! Thats what an "artist" is all about after all.
LOL!OK sorry but i always loved that.Bjorn and the girls just rock it hard and fine!Love the girls doing that high pitched screaming in terror,ha!ha!In a way it's as if they were "acting jokingly" and enjoying this. Also i love Benny;s and Bjorn's backing vocals in the chorus ,that you really distinguished immediately btw(!).Such fun.And wait till you listen to the wilder one about some kind of a mad stalker..."WATCH OUT!", from the same album. It was the Glam rock era after all.
@@GivenToe Indeed. Watch Out is so unbelievably not ABBA as they layer became (it's some weird punk metal psychodrama with a hard guitar riff that Lenny Kravitz later cribbed ;-) It's amazing for a love-hate listen.
Just because its different from most other ABBA work doesnt mean that its bad or worse...its just abit different and I LOVE it...! I do really like this song,,,its both cool and good music put together, good melody,...its just goood...
congratulations for You returrn! To be honest, I don't want to suggest this song to react Isn't bad, but isn't good too It's half and half. It's ok, buth nothing more It's between 4/5 pts for me In the album "Waterloo" there's a few songs as these, only 4/5pts, in contrast with the center tittle track "Waterloo", fantastic Masterpiece The best is when Agnetha & Frida singing as lead with great power in the second verse But it's 1974, the time when the boys and the girls singing half and half After this album, Björn & Benny leaves the most of leads vocals to Agnetha & Frida, and the best of ABBA shine in all the world All blessings for You and family with all my affect from Buenos Aires Argentina
Does anyone else find that musically, "King Kong Song" shows the influence of the previous year's "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" (Elton John/Bernie Taupin)? As if Benny were going for something as exciting and hard-driving, with blistering, distorted electric guitar, but altogether safe for nine-year-olds, "Saturday Night" diluted with some Beach Boys vocals (you can't hear all that "Bah-Bah..." without recalling "Barbara Ann"). In any case, thank you for sharing your reaction with us. When I was a kid, I went along with this song, but I would always be looking forward to hearing "My Mama Said" again, which was SO SMOOOOOTH and so touching.
ABBAMAN.. update no. three. back then ABBA was doing some songs that were glam rockish. i am glad benny wrote this. to me its the funnest song they ever did. your facial expressions are unexplanible lol you have a childlike way about you and the wonderment of discovering anything new. dont take this as a flaw of your personality. its just the opposite, i am much like you in that respect. its an endearing quality you have. also liked the inclusion of the error effect. just brilliant lol
Yeah Im glad they did this too, its one of a kind an unique! Hahah I take it as a true compliment indeed, we should never change who we are in person, that also makes us unique. Thanks a lot Gene! Glad you liked it! =) Have the best day!
ABBAMAN... update no, two...you look bewildered lol i have seen this song reacted to several times and by far yours is hillarious.. i cant stop laughing with you everytime i see it. also this song was released in sweden backed with honey hone and also issued in australia. but it was not issued worldwide. in any case i knew you would get a kick out of hearing it when the time came, thx for an awesome reaction. as usual you made my day
Both WATERLOO and ABBA albums(1974/1975) were filled with such an interesting variety.Pop/Bubblegum pop/glam rock/heavy rock/funk,jazzy pop/Reggae/Schlager/classical '70s euroballads, and all of them very well produced for its time.
It's not nearly as bad as people say it is, I think it's actually very catchy. Very corny maybe and the lyrics is not great but it sounds like they're having a lot of fun! Thank you for the laugh! You're for sure the most fun reactor on UA-cam, I just love your facial expressions!🤣
I agree! It is catchy, kinda reminds me of a boogie where people dance! I get "junior highschool" flashbacks. Lots of fun! Thank you SO much, that means very much to me! 🙏😊😊😊
So we see another side of Abba, that's not at all surprising don't you think. In 2022 we see ABBA back after 40 years with a new album and futuristic concert using avatars. So unimaginable surprises are a constant aspect to their creativity and talents ,they are ABBA. King Kong song is just another variation of another Style of music that they explore another thread in there beautiful tapestry of music that enhances they're woven story and create a patchwork of love. I loved your reaction, the tapestry is beginning to take shape and you are in for many more surprises
I just recently started to watch reaction vids and stumbled on yours. Since im a lifelong, fullgrown hardcore ABBA-fan I thought it would be fun to se and hear your reaction to their songs. Besides the fact that you seem to know a lot about music your also FUNNY!! Your reactions, faical expressions totaly crack me up!! So fullfilling and awsome! Besides that, I absolutley LOVE love love this song! For two reasons really, first its so different coming from ABBA and still its just as good music-wise if you pick it appart, secondly this is one of the songs that ALL the kids on my street wanted to do when we had our own -lipsynk battle- back in the 70:s. So many good memeories from this song. I will most definitly leave more comments when i look at your other reaction vids, and if I dont see one of my favs ill wish for it. Thanks a bunch you are great!
I love the song and also what I love about ABBA - not boring. I heard the song first time when I was about 13 and have always liked it. It hasn't been my favorite at that time, but as I am much older now, I can hear so much better what's in it to love. They still have the harmony, melody and the beautiful voices. Since you promised that you would review all of the ABBA albums, I have been waiting for this moment, for this song. It was enjoyable to watch your reaction, your face expressions. It was priceless :) I heard that song hundreds of times and believe me, it would grow on you - maybe not on everyone, but on you.
It’s always been in my top 3 ABBA songs. It’s pure joy. it’s unbridled exuberance. It’s utterly infectious. It’s beautifully spontaneous. It has the elements that often become intangible as songwriters mature….as songwriters become more self conscious and critically self aware. What I love so much is the “who the hell cares!”-ness about it. Pity that Benny has gone on record saying he regrets recording it. To me that is like telling the world the Santa Claus is not real. Well duh…..we all know he’s not real but the pretending part of it is so much fun we are willing to suspend credulity for the sheer joy of it. So yeah, its silly and a bit daft. Big deal. So is Halloween. What are you going to do about it? If anyone cares, I’ll be stocking up on the Reese’s and wearing a wig and rocking out to the King Kong Song
Well said Otis. I love this song. It's completely daft but always puts a smile on my face! Sometimes you just need to surrender to the beat of the monkey tom-tom!
Omg, best reaction ever, I'm crying with laughter from your reaction ,🤣🤣 first time I have had a laugh in years, thank you so much, omg I like the song ,I like every abba song ,can't wait for your next abba reaction , your the best 👍❤️
Hahah yeah nuts is the word! But quite funny! Thank you! Hahaha yeah its a pregnancy pillow that we have bought just because its so damn comfortable 🤣🤣🤣
This is not a bad song!!! They’re just rumors and probably not a big ABBA fan! This is one of my favorites along with My Mama Said, Watch Out, Dance (While The Music Still Goes On) and Gonna Sing You My Lovesong. Bjorn sang lead and I don’t think Frida screams here, I think it’s Agnetha just like when she screams in Hole In Your Soul. Also, I think that Benny sometimes has no confidence in their music. He refuses to release Just Like That and I believe it’s a great song. Instead he gave it to some group named Gemini where the arrangement is slow and boring. Also he mentioned that there were 2 songs that were recorded for the Voyage album that they decided not to release. What is wrong with him???
I am in total agreement with all that you say here. I also very much like the songs that you have named and My Mama Said is absolutely beautiful, but you are the first person ever I heard (or read) saying that. It might be my favorite from Waterloo.
Well I guess perhaps that when you are such a respected artist, like Benny is, you set the stakes very high in quality for yourself. It probably gets harder and harder as the years pass, to look at your own work (no matter if its songs, paintings or other artistry) with confidence. You always have the pressure of being better and better. Thats why its good for someone "outside" to watch it with other eyes. I don't think its a thing where he is ego or wants to be "perfect", I just think its an insecurity that probably all artists have in different ways. =)
I am a fan of that rock era too.KKS/Watch out/Hey hey Helen/Rock me/So long and even the later operatic rockage "Hole in your soul".Loved your reaction and as always your very observative!Just listen without predjudice and enjoy. Each song in ABBA's juke-box is a little story.
I remember so well when I first heard the Waterloo album. I was ten and at a birthday party at a friend of mine. Love every song on that album since then, but especially King Kong Song, Sitting in a Palmtree and Suzie-Hang-Around. Musically the are not at the top of Abba's songs, but they are forever in my heart. :-)
You made one comment I think that sums up everything: "the wonder of ABBA". Of course this song sounds unusual to people who stereotype ABBA and haven't bothered to listen to the first two albums. But to me, ABBA is their entire catalog, not just the later, more well-known stuff. And this is nowhere near a "bad" song - it's just not their usual "brilliant". Obviously too, the 2 ladies are the megastars vocally but I like hearing songs where the 2 men contribute - and that's why I like to come back and listen to the first 2 albums from time-to-time.
I've been laughing a lot with this comic reaction...! I understand you! We loved this song when we were kids and today I always think it's a funny and happy song. I'm sure they had a very good time in the studio. It was the beginning of ABBA, nothing to do with The Winner Takes It All but I love it
Thank you SO much! You have no idea what that means to me, but it means a LOT! Interesting, I have not heard that track either, so it is coming as a reaction! Stay tuned and welcome to the Qhiquititoes family of GivenToe! 😍
When I first heard this song, my initial reaction was exactly the same! I was thinking... WHAT is going on here?!?!?!?? It sounds absolutely nothing like the Abba we're used to, etc. Gone are the beautifully layered harmonies and thoughtful lyrics. And yet, I felt compelled to listen to it again. And again. And again. It sounds crazy, but there is actually some clever stuff going on in this track. While I scratch my head during the SCREAMING "Big Fat White Gorilla!!!" I can't help but laugh with the impression of how much freaking fun they had while recording this. And when the "Bow-wow-wow-wuppa-boo-boo-boom-boom" hits, I'm actually quite digging it! Yeah, it's a bit corny, but in such a good way. There's a lot of complexity with the rhythmic backing vocals surrounding this part, it makes me feel impressed with how it all comes together. Obviously, it's not their best work but it's FAR from their worst. I can understand why some people hate it. But for me, there's just too much fun in this track I can't ignore. It's not making my playlist anytime soon, but every time I hear this song I smile. I laugh. And I suddenly find myself grooving along (lol).
As you say, it is hard NOT to smile when hearing this, cause it is a fun song after all! I quite liked it in more than one way actually! Not theyr best, no, and strange, yes. But still fun! =)
I really enjoyed this song. If they ever played it live, I can imagine it would be one to mosh to 😂 On a slightly more embarrassing note, I once played this full volume through my headphones and belted out the lyrics, completely forgetting my window was wide open - when it finished, my neighbours gave a round of applause from their garden!
Your face 😆. Priceless! To quote ‘Don’t shut me down’ - I think it would be fair to say, you look bewildered 😁. I’ve been waiting for your review of this for ages. I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it either. Wait until you hear ‘Watch Out’ 😉. Thanks for making me smile 😊. Go and have a nice glass of something to recover from the screams 😂
Thinking - if this was the song in ESC (Eurovision) 1974, instead of the Waterloo... that won? (almost crying now.) *'Luck'* is - _It Was Not!_ Lol 😁 Love your reaction, *Goosebump Toe*
The Waterloo album for me is a awesome album. Not one bad song. And this song is a good song to do housework to. You cam imagine abba with thier arm down and waddling all around. This is a fun fun. I love the screams. It fits in with the old black and white king Kong movie. With the female actress screaming. Awesome song. What for watch out on this album.
A fun, genuine reaction! Abba's WATERLOO album is rather varied -- I imagine they were experimenting with different sounds in their early days. Even so, I really enjoy this song, corny doo-wop and all. Though it's "unusual" it still has a rather impressive production quality. And hey, the groove really just makes people want to dance! I appreciate the fact that you gave the song an honest review despite the fact that you had heard such horrible things about it. PLEASE do more reactions from this album! 🙈🙉🙊
Well, I was looking at a movie on the TV last night Then I had a very funny notion, yeah I really had to write a song about it And then I'm gonna sing it with my rock 'n' roll band And I bet that people gonna like it, yeah I know that everybody's gonna shout it About a dreadful, mighty killer A big, black, wild gorilla King Kong song Won't you sing along? Listen to the music and it couldn't go wrong (We do the) King Kong song Gotta sing along Can't you hear the beating of the monkey tom-tom? Listen to the rhythm of the King Kong song Now we can make the jungle out of any old place We can make gorillas out of people, yeah Well, who can tell a monkey from a monkey So people get together gonna have a good time Everybody listen to the music, yeah The song we're gonna sing is kinda funky So let your arms hang down and waddle all around Like a dreadful, mighty killer A big, black, wild gorilla King Kong song Won't you sing along? Listen to the music and it couldn't go wrong (We do the) King Kong song Gotta sing along Can't you hear the beating of the monkey tom-tom? Listen to the rhythm of the King Kong song Like a dreadful, mighty killer A big, black, wild gorilla King Kong song Won't you sing along? Listen to the music and it couldn't go wrong (We do the) King Kong song Gotta sing along Can't you hear the beating of the monkey tom-tom Listen to the rhythm of the King Kong song King Kong song Won't you sing along? Listen to the music and it couldn't go wrong (We do the) King Kong song Gotta sing along Can't you hear the beating of the monkey tom-tom Listen to the rhythm of the King Kong song
Thank you! Yeah well it actually is not that bad of a song! I mean it's not a masterpiece, and it is defenately werid. But still fun! And I like the riff!
@@GivenToeyou should listen again with lyrics infront of you makes the song a little easier to understand. Its Agnetha doing the screams ( I think ). My Grandaughter asked what I was laughing at as I was wearing headphones watching this, must have looked silly.
Bought this album in the 70s. Didn't like this song much. Over the ensuing decades, it has definitely grown on me. I always found the verses compelling - the melody and rhythm guitar are undeniably hooky. And when the women sing the second verse and then harmonize, it's classic ABBA. The lyrics matter none. The musical arrangement and development of the band's sound are what matters. And now that I don't care if it sounds "corny" or "trendy" (that's a trap of youth), I like the song even better. The drums, the guitars, the vocals, the piano, the organ, the cymbal crashes, all tight, all energetic and clean, nothing to scoff at here. (The lyrics simply describe a fictional dance called the King Kong Song that is the latest rage like the Hustle or the Twist or the Locomotion or even the Time Warp.)
Lol omg I was so distracted thinking...the bed...a mess...and are those dirty undies as well? Hahaha too funny. And no...I don't want to know. You make us laugh. That's such a gift...thank you....thank you....thank you.
As far as I can remember, today was the first time I've heard this song. I remember how popular Waterloo was, but I don't think this song got any airplay in the Southern U.S. I was a teenager at the time and could not afford to buy the entire Waterloo Album. They really missed their opportunity when the remake of King Kong was released around 1977. I think if it had been promoted, it would have been a very popular song.
I - knew - it, I really knew it, what would happen, and you gave me a very good laugh, thanks. As the lyrics say "...watching a movie on TV last night", ABBA did as they sing and wrote a song about the movie "King Kong". If you have seen that film, preferably the original, you find the complete audio-atmosphere in this song. Imagine that big ape drumming his breast, the jungle drums of the natives and the fearful screams of the cute white girl, about to be sacrificed. Now mix in, for the fun, some Addams Family or, if you know him, Screaming Lord Sutch. so yeah, I like it, because it is so - special. ABBA just never gets boring...... bah,bah,boom,boom,boom,boom.......
@@GivenToe The old one is much scarier. The new movie lost a lot of flair through hightech for filming and in the scenes. No way, supersonic jets, could do a dog fight around a sky-scraper like a double-wing propeller plane. For film remakes, less of modern times is mostly better, like ABBA without auto-tune (then and now) is always standing the test of time.
Your reaction to this song is priceless... it *tells* me that it's a crazy song, because no other ABBA song so far has provoked this reaction from you! I don't really think this song is as crap as I remember, but it is definitely "corny", as you say. At the beginning, it kind of feels like a glam rock update of "Pick a Bale of Cotton", from that medley that Abba did (which is easily my least-favourite Abba track, btw). But I feel a lot of love for this track in the comments here, so that's fine. Again, it feels a bit like Abba are trying out a different genre (glam rock?) and when you compare it to SOS, Knowing Me Knowing You, or Dancing Queen, it's not there yet, but there you go. Thanks for the sharing, GT, and for the awesome reaction.
Thanks Michael! Yeah it is a crazy song, very experimental. Also a bit provokative when you are used to something completely different! The riff is catchy though, like a boogie. Very fun to experience indeed! Not in my tom 10 either but defenately fun 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you Michael and have the best day ever!
I don't understand why GivenToe is so non-plussed while listening. This is a FUN song with a lively melody and really great use of the classic ABBA harmonies. It's great to be discovering and re-discovering ABBA's lesser known tunes. I don't get why this song is apparently so disliked. But, you can't please all the people all the time.
"I was watching a movie on the TV last night... ...I had to write a song about it". This is that song, apparently. Still, King Kong being in the title, one wouldn't expect swaying palm trees and pastoral landscapes depicted in the song. One would expect a hairy, bloodthirsty monster lifting up women. Screams from said women... I think you got exactly what they were trying to convey, the feeling of watching the movie itself. It is a famous movie after all and part of our common culture. Remember sometimes putting this on in my teens when getting ready to go out clubbing, particularly "let my arms hang down and waddle all around" in front of the hall mirror.
ABBAMAN.. update... many of ABBA'S songs had working titles while making the demos. this song was called MR. SEX according to wiki. i sure would have liked to see the lyrics to that version. hanky panky or jungle fever indeed lol
Omg I’m wiping my eyes from laughing at this reaction 😂😂…….at the time glam rock, and do-wop bands were fairly big (groups like showaddywaddy etc) so they were just experimenting with what was popular at the time…….as for the song….it’s corny….but you can’t help but get hooked under the usual ABBA spell 😊
This song as with others on ABBAs early albums ultimately contributed to their success. The lyrics maybe somewhat ‘cheesy’ but some of the ABBA sound is there. This was for the band a period of experimentation; Benny may now see the song as something he would like to forget , but many bands have experimented in this way. Michael Stipe of REM is reported as saying that he no longer wishes to listen to Shiny Happy People , which is still liked by many. Paul McCartney probably has regrets about past songs he has written too. Writing songs whether good or poor is part of being a successful musician
Altough ABBA tended much more to Pop, Frida rocked out on a few songs in her solo work. She even covered "Fire and Ice" because she loved Pat Benatar's sound.
King Kong Song is actually kind of a bop. It’s Suzy Hang Around that’s maybe the biggest stinker they even made. Benny, love you but please don’t sing lead. Lol. Like this album had the same amount of leads for Benny as they gave Frida. Choices.
I think it was Benny who once joked that they have released 'ABBA Gold' and now they should release 'ABBA Wood' with the tracks they wish they hadn't recorded. Not their best song ever, but I still like it 😁
I cant help like this one and have always considered this song as a bit of a joke between the four. It always make me smile,😊and its easy to image how the guys put this together one night after a couple of beers to many ... 🍻🦍
A novel, King Kong was written in 1932 to promote the upcoming movie King Kong. As a result of the copyright not being renewed the novel is now in public domain. Source: Wikizilla
Have you heard about the monkey who invented a bell that would ring every time a point is scored playing table tennis? He called it the King Kong Ping Pong Ding Dong
When this album was recorded Glam Rock was at its height in the U.K. This song, Watch Out and probably Waterloo are all influenced by this genre particularly the group Wizzard (See My Baby Jive). Probably not one of their finest but full marks for giving it a go!!!
I actually really love a lot about this song. The music, melody, vocal performances are all top notch. The lyrics are the only things that are trashy. But musically, it’s a great glam rock throwback song Also, the scream is Agnetha and not Frida
A.... what?! I've heard the King Kong song now.😳😂 It's different all right. Rock? Pop? It surely is funny sounding. I'm sorry, but I had to laugh hearing this screams. Not bad but just a "touch" strange as for ABBA🎶🇵🇱
VERY well said!
Hear hear. I quite like it. I don't think ABBA has done a 'duff' song which I don't think you can say with 99% of the bands world wide. I was 10 years old, and all my friends loved this song. We played it again and again and we danced.
So lovely to hear! Memories remain 😁😁😁
Yeah I absolutely bet! =) Its amazing in a lot of ways!
you did it!
I love this song, esp. the background of the boys.
King Kong song
Won't you sing along?
Listen to the music and it couldn't go wrong
(We do the)
King Kong song
Gotta sing along
Can't you hear the beating of the monkey tom-tom
Listen to the rhythm of the King Kong song
Hahah I sure did! It was, very interesting to say the least! 🤣😁😁😁
Anna made the high note in KKS.
This was the highest she went during ABBA years.
Ciao!!
Thanks Gene! Hahah yeah, I actually quite enjoyed it! As you say, a fun song! I bet they had a blast! 😂😁🙏🏻
Wow a mad stalker? Cant wait for that one! 😅😅😅
@@GivenToe Indeed. Watch Out is so unbelievably not ABBA as they layer became (it's some weird punk metal psychodrama with a hard guitar riff that Lenny Kravitz later cribbed ;-)
It's amazing for a love-hate listen.
@@GivenToe Also, Björn says "Watch Out" is the worst song, pipping King Kong to second place.
@@nickmailer1598 Many punks, metal heads and rockers wouldn't agree with Bjorn's+Benny's verdict, though! This is their extra Abba-jam!.
I love this song
Abba goes metal-light. The sound is so 70s. Still love it! ❤️🎸👌🕺
👍🏻👍🏻🤘🏻🔥
ABBA gone beatled 😆
For the love of Ass...you are SO funny David! LOL! Your reaction was hilarious, great reaction video!
😂😂😂 I need to train myself saying ”Waterloo ”! 🤣🤣 Thank you! 🙏🏻
Love this song
9:46 just goes to show the guys can make a song from anything!
Best wishes from Brisbane Australia ❣️
Just because its different from most other ABBA work doesnt mean that its bad or worse...its just abit different and I LOVE it...! I do really like this song,,,its both cool and good music put together, good melody,...its just goood...
Amazing reaction! So genuine, so pure - WOW!
Thanks Robert! =)
congratulations for You returrn!
To be honest, I don't want to suggest this song to react
Isn't bad, but isn't good too
It's half and half. It's ok, buth nothing more It's between 4/5 pts for me
In the album "Waterloo" there's a few songs as these, only 4/5pts, in contrast with the center tittle track "Waterloo", fantastic Masterpiece
The best is when Agnetha & Frida singing as lead with great power in the second verse
But it's 1974, the time when the boys and the girls singing half and half
After this album, Björn & Benny leaves the most of leads vocals to Agnetha & Frida, and the best of ABBA shine in all the world
All blessings for You and family
with all my affect from
Buenos Aires Argentina
Thank you! Yes I agree 😉 Thank you and the same to you!
I love the king kong song
I LOVE this song. It's a blast and a great fun dance song.
I love this song very much. Agnetha screaming in the song , not Frida.
ABBAMAN... update no, two...you look bewildered lol i have seen this song reacted to several times and by far yours is hillarious.. i cant stop laughing with you everytime i see it. also this song was released in sweden backed with honey hone and also issued in australia. but it was not issued worldwide. in any case i knew you would get a kick out of hearing it when the time came, thx for an awesome reaction. as usual you made my day
Hahah yeah bewildered is probably the most correct description 🤣🤣 Thanks Gene! Have a great day now!
LOL ! love your reaction GT. Always enjoyed this song myself, it's just fun being both rocky / poppy...it gets you singing and bopping along
Hahah thank you! Yeah I agree!
Yeah thats whats so cool about them =) ABBA is like a box of chocolate. You never know what youre gonna get!
I love this song. Maybe because I first heard it 50 years ago and loved it then.
Now we can make the jungle out of any old place!
Love this reaction ❤️This is a good song from an early ABBA album.
Thank you! =)
Wow thank you SO much! I am happy you enjoy my videos! Means a lot! 😁😁😁🙏🏻🔥
Glad youre here for the ride Din! =)
Yeah infectious is the right word! I quite enjoyed it even if it is weird. =)
Hahah thank you! That means a lot to me! Yeah stay tuned for more! 🤣🙏🏻😁
Totally nuts! Unbelievable its actually ABBA!! Great reaction mate!! Ha ha! (Dig what look like discarded pants on your bed)????!!! ;)
I LOVE My mama said
Well I guess perhaps that when you are such a respected artist, like Benny is, you set the stakes very high in quality for yourself.
Each song is defenately as a story in itself! Thank you!
I absolutely agree!
I love this song, funky ideas, great harmony, awesome bass, fascinating rhythm, forget the lyrics :-)
I've been laughing a lot with this comic reaction...! I understand you! We loved this song when we were kids and today I always think it's a funny and happy song. I'm sure they had a very good time in the studio. It was the beginning of ABBA, nothing to do with The Winner Takes It All but I love it
So glad you enjoyed it 😂🙏🏻😁
This was my love at first hearing !!
You are good, possibly the best reaction channel I've seen . My favourite on this album and is the very underrated "my mama said".
Thank you SO much! You have no idea what that means to me, but it means a LOT! Interesting, I have not heard that track either, so it is coming as a reaction! Stay tuned and welcome to the Qhiquititoes family of GivenToe! 😍
Älskar den😊
I love the way you react to these songs so fantastic and honest ❤️
Thank you Michael =)
I love the early albums because there is so much experimentation with music and technology
😂😂 this was my favorite, when I was 6 😂
Really? Thats so cute! 😂😁💖
When I was a kid, I loved this song. It's still fun. However, What about Livingston was my favorite song from the album.
Not heard that one either, so that one will make an appearance sooner or later in here! Stay tuned! :D
I totaly love this song ❤️🥰😍
🙏🙏😁💖
I really enjoyed this song. If they ever played it live, I can imagine it would be one to mosh to 😂
On a slightly more embarrassing note, I once played this full volume through my headphones and belted out the lyrics, completely forgetting my window was wide open - when it finished, my neighbours gave a round of applause from their garden!
Hahahah thats a great story 😂😂😂😂
As a 10 year old boy I loved this song when the Lp came 1974. Still find it rather fun and quite ok! Just like Watch out!
Thats great to hear Magnus! 😁😁
Go and have a nice glass of something to recover from the screams 😂
hahah bewildered at the least! Thanks for the comment Nic! I sure will go have a cold one! Have a great day! 🙏😁
When will you continue with the rest of the Waterloo album? I´m looking forward to it. :-)
Tomorrow 😎
Thinking - if this was the song in ESC (Eurovision) 1974, instead of the Waterloo... that won? (almost crying now.)
*'Luck'* is -
_It Was Not!_
Lol 😁
Love your reaction, *Goosebump Toe*
Hahah yes lucky 🤣 Thank you 🙏🏻
The Waterloo album for me is a awesome album.
Hehe thank you! I will do all ABBA songs I have not yet heard, and that means a lot more on this album 😁 So stay tuned! 🙏🏻
Well, I was looking at a movie on the TV last night
Then I had a very funny notion, yeah
I really had to write a song about it
And then I'm gonna sing it with my rock 'n' roll band
And I bet that people gonna like it, yeah
I know that everybody's gonna shout it
About a dreadful, mighty killer
A big, black, wild gorilla
King Kong song
Won't you sing along?
Listen to the music and it couldn't go wrong

So people get together gonna have a good time
Everybody listen to the music, yeah
The song we're gonna sing is kinda funky
So let your arms hang down and waddle all around
Like a dreadful, mighty killer
A big, black, wild gorilla
King Kong song
Won't you sing along?
Listen to the music and it couldn't go wrong

Thanks for the lyrics!
What's on my mind right now during watching this video: "Ooh, my mama said, "Look at this, you haven't done your bed." 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 thats true! I was doing laundry, and then took a break to record 😂😂😂
It is so FUN.......
Lol what a fantastic reaction, love it. I actually love this song, it grows on you.
True! Hahah 😂😂 That would be a sight!
Your best ABBA reaction yet!! Your bafflement was so good to see 🤣🤣The song is batshit crazy… and I love it!! 🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hahahah no its NOT I can at least tell u that lol 😂😂😂 Thank you!
This song seems to be just a silly funny tune 😃 I could totally imagine the guys from Sabaton singing it to warm up for a show 😄
Great fun album track
Can’t wait for your reaction to Dance (while the music goes on), Givrntoe. It’s a favourite of mine from the Waterloo album 👍🏻
I'll get there ;)
I hope you like 👍🏻
As far as I can remember, today was the first time I've heard this song.
Heheh yeah I saw King Kong (at least a few clips of the old one) and the new one from 2009 or something. Very true!
Even if it's kind of crazy they still did it very well!
Very true!
Not sure what plussed means but I thought it was a fun song too! Catchy, fun and weird. 🤷🏼♂️😊
@@GivenToe Thanks for replying. Non-plussed means shocked, surprised, lost for words and such like.
The song is so funny! Always makes me smile. A silly toe tapper that wasn’t meant to be taken seriously. Just pure fun! 🦍
Heheh sounds like a wonderful memory! :D
6:59 that part of the reaction really killed me🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂
I think if it had been played more at the time ABBA could easily have created a new dance craze - which after all is what the lyrics are all about.
True!
ABBAMAN.. update... many of ABBA'S songs had working titles while making the demos. this song was called MR. SEX according to wiki. i sure would have liked to see the lyrics to that version. hanky panky or jungle fever indeed lol
OMG im dying! 😂😂😂😂😂 Mr Sex???? Hahahah! 🤣🤣🤣
Weird but fun song lol 😜
Exactly!
Omg I’m wiping my eyes from laughing at this reaction 😂😂…….at the time glam rock, and do-wop bands were fairly big (groups like showaddywaddy etc) so they were just experimenting with what was popular at the time…….as for the song….it’s corny….but you can’t help but get hooked under the usual ABBA spell 😊
..."you can't help but get hooked under the usual ABBA spell"...Thanx DAVE!
🤣🤣 Very true! Corny or not, its fun! 😁🙏
Agnetha is screaming , not frida.
You are absolutely right!
It's just fun and catchy
I listen to it every now and then
Absolutely fun! Also the riff is pretty catchy. Kinda like a boogie!
Not their best song ever, but I still like it 😁
ABBA Wood 😂😂😂😂😂
I cant help like this one and have always considered this song as a bit of a joke between the four. It always make me smile,😊and its easy to image how the guys put this together one night after a couple of beers to many ... 🍻🦍
Hahah very true 😂
😉😁 but they had lots of fun 😅🤣
Indeed 🤣😅
I love this song ! Don’t be dissing it.
Me too.,it's fun not meant to be taken seriously!!
Im not dissing it at all 😊
If I was Legendary/Warner Brothers Discovery I would be sueing ABBA for this crazy song, LOL
A novel, King Kong was written in 1932 to promote the upcoming movie King Kong.
As a result of the copyright not being renewed the novel is now in public domain.

Have you heard about the monkey who invented a bell that would ring every time a point is scored playing table tennis? He called it the King Kong Ping Pong Ding Dong
lol no I didn't hear that XD
At least they didn't go and make monkey sounds on this one LOL
hahah true!
The song was a fun song
This song was meant to be for kids, that's what I've read somewhere and it makes sense knowing that. 😄
hahah ok good to know XD
When this album was recorded Glam Rock was at its height in the U.K. This song, Watch Out and probably Waterloo are all influenced by this genre particularly the group Wizzard (See My Baby Jive). Probably not one of their finest but full marks for giving it a go!!!
Don't forget Hey Hey Helen. :)
Listening to that is a right of passage. It is like ABBA's equivalent to "Funky Gibbon" by The Goodies, although they were trying to be funny.
I actually really love a lot about this song. The music, melody, vocal performances are all top notch. The lyrics are the only things that are trashy. But musically, it’s a great glam rock throwback song
Also, the scream is Agnetha and not Frida
A.... what?! I've heard the King Kong song now.😳😂 It's different all right. Rock? Pop? It surely is funny sounding. I'm sorry, but I had to laugh hearing this screams. Not bad but just a "touch" strange as for ABBA🎶🇵🇱
heheh yeah it sure is one of a kind! I was kinda of surprised tio say the least 😂😂
