I love the girls' high pitched screamings, and both this song and ';Watch Out".Imagine, this is the same group who did 'If it wasn't for the nights,'I Do,i Do",'GImme,Gimme,Gimme",Nina pretty Ballerina","the Day before you came",'Dum Dum Didle,'The Visitors",' 'He is your brother','I let the music speak"', 'So Long",,The Piper",'Mamma Mia",'Ode to Freedom".Such diversity and explorative creativity .Hats off plz.
Hi, Chase! I was the one who made this request--and believe it or not, I agree with you 100%!! See? Even ABBA's "worst" songs are actually not that bad. LOL Anyway, thank you for this reaction, and thank you for posting it so quickly! Just for that, I am subscribing to your channel right now! THANK YOU!! 😁
Can you imagine the fun they must have had in the studio recording these early tracks. I see it as part of their evolution as a group, and to be honest, would rather listen to this, than say, 'You owe me one', which sounds like they are just going through the motions. I think the 'break' came at the right time. At the moment, my favourite albums are the 3rd release 'ABBA', and 'ABBA-The Album'.
I agree 100% Chase ! and just goes to show that even the not so popular Abba songs still contain catchy melodic riffs. I personally always liked this song and thought it was fun, but yes the part where Bjorn chimes in throws it off. Heck, if they had rewrote and reworked just that part the tune might have even been a hit. A reminder here for their audio song 'The Visitors" , Cheers Chase !
This is when they were starting and experimenting as a group. At that point they still had not defined their style. This is true for a lot of their material in their first two albums.
The early years of ABBA show that they were trying all sorts of styles of music. I appreciate them for that alone. I really do like this song A lot it's different and I think the screams really helped the song. After all it's like King Kong and fay ray. She screamed when King Kong grabbed her So why not incorporate that into the song I think it was a genius move. To me this is not Abba's worst song at all!!😊
Thank you, Chase! 🦍 I'd never heard this one... but I think it's cute... unusual. And I love all versions of the KING KONG story, so this was fine for me.
This is definitely NOT their worst song. For that, you'll want to listen to "I saw it in the mirror" from ABBA's first album, but King Kong Song is great! It's ABBA rocking out, and it's bouncy and fun!
You nailed it! That's exactly the same way I feel about the song. The part you didn't care for is the only problem I think the song has. The verses are actually SUPER CATCHY.
105 bangers out of 120 plus released is unheard of. I can't think of another group with that kind of hit ratio. King Kong is not one of their 105. What's really amazing are songs that they never released. "Just like that" is incredible and Benny doesn't like it. So there's a gem that only sees the light of day as a bootleg copy. There are more where that came from. I don't do Instagram but I'll try here. "React to Casandra" or "Angel Passing Through my Room".
This song is FUN! Yes , the lyrics are silly. It's meant to be silly. Great melody. Great production. Not my favorite by a mile. But it is fun as heck.
This song is just the one you will not feel like listening for several times in a row. It has not as much musical, beat or sence material for brain and body as to repeat it again. But it has nothing to avoid listening by chance. So it is obviously NOT BAD.
1973-1974 was the years glam rock was popular, Sweet was a popular glam rock band that also survived passed the glam rock period. Abba wasn't a glam rock band although they did this and Watch Out from the same album that might be considered glam rock. No Abba song is bad, some might dislike some songs but regardless songs like this one still is catchy. Always liked it, it's fun. And as others point out in the early Abba days they were trying out different styles until they made their third album in 1975 (with Mamma Mia and S.O.S.) when they started to find their way. From the Waterloo album My mama said is a funky song, Hasta Manana (which they thought of singing at the Swedish heat of Eurovision but decided on Waterloo instead) more of a schlager type of song. One song that Frida sings on, Gonna sing you my love song, is a must to react to one day.
Oh I have a story from this song. When I was about your age I listened to this through headphones and sang along at the top of my lungs. When it finished I realised my window was open and neighbours were having a bbq and they all started clapping me. I was mortified!
I'm not keen on novelty pop songs and this one from ABBA could do with being left in room 101 🤣 But for any band to have so few truly weak songs and so many hits and bangers is truly amazing.
Apologies if this is a repeat post, battery went. Even ABBA's 'worst' tacks are better than some artist's best. In the first couple of albums they did experiment a bit more and I think some tracks suffer now as they don't have Agnetha or Frida as lead but Björn so not what we are used to hearing. From the first two (English language) albums my two top tracks are: Ring Ring: Ring Ring and disillusion (the only track with lyrics written by Agnetha to make it onto an album) Waterloo: Waterloo and Hasta Mañana (with Dance as the music still goes on in a close 3rd) My personal least favourite track - Suzy-hang-around
Hello, can you react to Ace of Base? They're a Swedish band from the 90s, 2 men/2 women (just like ABBA) 3rd Biggest selling artists from Sweden. Their most popular hits are All That She Wants, The Sign, Beautiful Life, Don't Turn Around, Happy Nation etc. Thanks
Sounds like an intro to a kids cartoon show. And Bjorn's terrible impression of Slade's Noddy Holder is definitely the worse part. Also there isn't enough changeup. The verse from the girls is the only redeeming part for me.
It's not really a bad song like many claim. It's a fun song. I Saw It In The Mirror is probably one I would consider bad. My favorite tracks off this album are: My Mama Said, Watch Out, Gonna Sing You My Love Song! & Honey Honey
It a bit of 50 year old glamrock fluff and nothing more. The whole Waterloo album was ABBA searching the genres to find their own sound, as had been their first album Ring Ring and as would be their third album ABBA. The best tracks from all 3 albums made it to the Greatest Hits album in 1976, with only a couple of omissions.
Yep absolutely their worst!!!! Closely followed by I Saw it in the Mirror. Ones to try…. Watch Out My Mama Said Bang a Boomerang Love isn’t Easy and of course …kisses of fire…. one day you’ll react to it. lol
Can i have a second request?BROKEN VOW by LARA FABIAN...See the live version with Lara with love concert...bring tissue it may broke your heart....she wrote this song based in her real life(past relationship)..
To be honest, I don't want to suggest this song to react Isn't bad, but isn't good too It's half and half. It's ok, buth nothing more It's between 4/5 pts for me In the album "Waterloo" there's a few songs as these, only 4/5pts, in contrast with the center tittle track "Waterloo", fantastic Masterpiece The best is when Agnetha & Frida singing as lead with great power in the second verse As in the first album, is one of a few songs in wich the girls share the lead voice with the guys (Björn in thes case) But it's 1974, the time when the boys and the girls singing half and half After this album, Björn & Benny leaves the most of leads vocals to Agnetha & Frida, and the best of ABBA shine in all the world All blessings for You with all my affect from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America
Want to point out that if that person means least airplay money made on it blah blah played on the radio stations at the time than yes I was 16 when I bought ABBA Arrival and they became my favorite band, they've literally had 50 songs that made it to charts in one country or another. They sold more records than the Beatles. It's a harder edge to their normal happy dancey music but still you can tell. I may not have played it that much but after 3 or 4 albums you can't listen to every song everyday.
I consider ABBA to be the best band I've ever heard and 2nd only to Dan Fogelberg as the best overall artist(s) - based primarily on the number of great songs written and performed, in combination with the attention to detail in the recording process. Having said that, this is one song I wish they had not recorded. It's bloody awful. The ABBA fanatics will claim anything they did was great but this tends to be what all fanatics do.
Personally, I don't think this one is as bad as many make it out to be. At least you can tap your foot to it. And the screaming is great! (And bear in mind, when judging it, this was 1973/4. Glam rock, platform boots and all that.) For me, their worst track is the one the commenter below mentioned.....Man In The Middle. It has nothing - and I do mean absolutely nothing - going for it. Dull, bland, tuneless.....the absolute antithesis of ABBA. Made worse by the fact it comes immediately after the utterly brilliant SOS on the album.
Yes, "I Saw It in the Mirror" is not one of my favorites, either. Come to think of it, it's probably worse than "The King Kong Song." LOL Chase, if you're reading this comment, I want to reiterate that I LOVE ABBA, and this is all in fun talking about some of their "bad" songs. 😁😊
The melody is good, the lyrics terrible. In the early days they struggled to find there sound, thankfully they gave up glam-rock 😂 i think its great that you listen to their early songs, what a journey they did ...as you said, another side of ABBA 😊
I was thinking of this last night at work actually, and yes I think it is their worst song. I don't think it's bad but it's not up to the ABBA standard imo. It is fun though. There's only 3-4 others that also fall below the standard imo but considering they must've made close to a hundred songs it's pretty impressive. And I don't think any of the songs are bad, just not that good
It probably is one of their worst songs but it’s still a fun, silly song with a good melody and it’s kind of infectious. Great reaction as always and love how you were surprised you actually enjoyed it 👋😎
My friend Chase, the worst song by ABBA, for other groups it is considered an intermediate or mediocre song, it is difficult to find a bad song as is, but we do agree that it is probably their worst song. now react to "I do i do i do gone gone", I've told you several times, I'm a bit annoying but you'll see that you'll like it, also don't forget to react to Agnetha's solo songs
There are lot worse songs particularly off the the Ring Ring album and some other bad ones off the Waterloo album. Not all their songs are good. And this coming from one of their biggest fans,
Yeah, it’s bad. The writing is trying to do a mix between The Beach Boys and trying to do hard rock with a touch of B-52’s women’s scream in it. It’s all in a major key. Maybe if they went to a minor key, that would have fit King Kong better. I know you don’t know what late 60’s thru early 70’s “Bubblegum” music is, but this gets dangerously close to it. Trust me, you want to stay away from Bubblegum music at all costs!!!! This was pure trash, and not in a good way.
On the first 2 albums, ABBA tried out different styles of music in order to somehow gain a foothold; some liked, some are way off, all around 3'. Therefore, these 2 albums don't count for me. Later there are only 2 songs that I find terrible: Lovers (which I mentioned before) and Frida's operetta-like 5' sing-in???, ha-ha (some fans say that's art).
😖😩🥺 bleeech! This is just so off the scales bad it’s painful to listen to. There are some other ABBA songs I am not too fond of, but, they don’t come anywhere near as nauseatingly bad as this mess. So, as your ABBA journey continues, you won’t be running into any other ABBA song that sounds as bad as this one. Enjoy!
Man in the Middle is worse than this, and Me and Bobby and Bobby's Brother is really terrible. 99% of their output though, is totally fantastic, and all groups have a couple of stinkers in their back catalogue.
They can even scream in tune.
I think 'I saw it in the mirror' is even worse! 😬
I think 'King Kong song' is not bad at all...
Take care, Chase!
❤️🇨🇱🤗👍
I don’t listen to it out of choice, but when you’re at an ABBA fan club disco and everyone is dancing to it, it’s a kinda special feeling.
The "King Kong Song" is a game changer and has Glam Rock vibes.
Hi, Chase! I was the one who made this request--and believe it or not, I agree with you 100%!! See? Even ABBA's "worst" songs are actually not that bad. This is from their beginning. They are testing. They grew a lot from this. ❤
Worst ABBA song ? ::::::::::> I SAW IT IN THE MIRROR 😰
It’s certainly worse than kong song , which I quite like for its ridiculousness 😮
Thank you, Chase! 🦍 I'd never heard this one... but I think it's cute... unusual. And I love all versions of the KING KONG story, so this was fine for me.

Rock n Roll band from their Ring Ring album.. 🙏
An instrumental version would be good.
First time I heard it, I was not into it until the chorus came along especially with that bom bom throughout and I love it lol
This song is FUN! Yes , the lyrics are silly. It's meant to be silly. Great melody. Great production. Not my favorite by a mile. But it is fun as heck.

Glam Rock but Watch Out is their better song in this genre. Not a bad song particularly the instrumental part at the end.

Not bad but not in my top 20 of fav ABBA songs i have to be honest
The worst ABBA songs are merely a bit cringey and uncharacteristic of them overall. Not like real crap music.
It's really awfull😂 😂😂
I've said 300 times worse somg..my goodness get to it
"Rock me" is for me their worst song but i m agree this one is very close 😕😅😅😅
Worse song to me is I have a dream , just dirge
I dont like this song. Hahaha
