Out of all of the youtubers I watched over the years. I had never seen anyone that took criticism, used the criticism to improve their content, trys to do things that people didn't ask for but did it so well that its a welcoming addition as much as the gamer from mars. It really shows that you are quite possibly the best youtuber of all time!
Why are 80s cartoons and some 90s, always creepy? Looking at that cartoon as an adult, it’s still creepy. The animation, sound, and narration. Everything about it.
Psych IRL i find 70s animation the most creepy because the music used at the time had an unnerving sound, stiff movement and they are almost drug inducing.
Communist animation was made by perfectionists making art in their own style, with no outside influence whatsoever from Western cartoons. And some shorts were made by beginners, trying to grasp at how proper animation is made. That's why it's not consistent, looks off-model, or is just weird in general. Then again, some cartoons from that time are exceptionally well-made, such as Mystery of the Third Planet, Mowgli (coincidentally made while the Disney one was being made), Nu Pogodi, Private Investigation held by the Kolobki, and (Little) Hedgehog in the Fog.
Not as many restrictions back then and people were okay with scaring kids back then. Now everyone is so overly sensitive that people can't handle anything intense and everything is so censored that action cartoons are dying/almost non-existent now
Litten Fire I don't know about you, but I seen some cartoons nowadays that get away with some stuff. Like Gravity Falls, The Amazing World of Gumball, which I'll argue that in the later season of it's like a kid version of South Park, Adventure Time, Regular Show, hell even some scenes from Star vs The Forces of Evil
Pinwheel wasn’t JUST a show on Nickelodeon. It WAS Nickelodeon. Before Nick was Nick, it was known as Pinwheel and was a preschool aimed educational channel
The original channel, C-3 on the QUBE television network launched by Warner. Shortly after its creation the station's name was changed to the name of its flagship show Pinwheel in 1977. In 1979 the channel was re-branded as Nickelodeon and launched through Warner's satellite cable systems.
cheezburgrproduction dude I was scared of that too.. the part where the purple monster thing got into the submarine and one of them called it ugly or something and it started crying... I actually had nightmares about that lol
I remember before it was found, I made a Clockman recreation audio part, I actually was gonna have a animatic with it and I even still have some sketches, but my recreation is now put away due to the discovery of the clockman
I'm surprised this is the first I'm hearing of this. I had seen that short as a kid, but I watched 'Pinwheel' as a child on Nickelodeon. I knew exactly what cartoon you were talking about from the description, though I would never have been able to tell you the name of it. As soon as you said it appeared on 'Pinwheel', I could even hear the theme song in my head: "Pinwheel, pinwheel, spinning around..." edit: Damn, I'm old... >.
I grew up watching Pinwheel (around the ages of 3 - 5, early 80s) and it all feels like a fever dream. Its a good feeling to see people talking about it and remembering it when I thought I was the only who remembered this stuff. I only remember fuzzy bits and pieces too so I cant even have a good conversation about it haha
You know, as time goes on more and more stuff turns up missing. (Animations/TV shows) and I find it very interesting when the companies that made them, like Cartoon Network with the Moxie and Flea show (I think it’s called that) or pilots for any show that locked behind companies. You’d think companies would release these shows/videos to the public, but no. Most of the time it’s like talking to a wall.
My "Clockman" was an animated short called "The Treasure of the Grotoceans". Nowadays you can find it easily on Google, but I searched for over 10 years once, and ended up buying a copy from the film board of Canada after emailing them in search of it. It's really made me interested in lost media stories!
Mr Needlemouse no, it is 100% true. The channel was called Pinwheel until April 1st, 1979, and was available only on the QUBE network until then. That being said, the show Pinwheel is not the same thing; it simply has the same name that the channel previously did.
I really fucking dig this shit. I wasn't expecting a new Internet Mysteries video. I honestly thought the series was dead. I'm glad to see I was wrong. This is definitely one of my favorite series on the internet
I introduced my little sister to this cartoon a few weeks ago, and as we were watching it together, my mom came in. She asked what it was about, so I told her a mini synopsis of the video and about how it had been missing since the 70's. To my shock, she actually remembered seeing it, and came to watch it with us because it reminded her of her childhood! We also showed her 'Crack Master', and she said she recognized the voice, but nothing about the animation. Either way, I think it's super cool that she got to see this little cartoon and let it connect the three of us through our interest in it!
O Páradivé Sally (About Dressy Sally) is a short animated film that was produced in Communist Czechoslovakia in 1976. An English dub was made in the U.S. two years later.
Its A re-Telling of The Red Shoes by Hans Christian Andersen* hca.gilead.org.il/red_shoe.html BUT the thing is THERE are many other versions of the CLOCKMAN* The clock representing both temporality and transcendence. Oh man, as a kid growing up in the '80s with cable TV, I freakin' *loved* Pinwheel. My favorite segment was a stop-motion animation short about anthropomorphic hats -- I liked the sombrero character best. There's another obscure old Nickelodeon cartoon I really liked, but has been forgotten by time: Dr. Snuggles. Everyone I know claims the show never existed, but from doing some research I found out it was in fact a Dutch cartoon dubbed in English, and way back when I was like 3 or 4 they'd play reruns of it on classic Nickelodeon.
I really missed this type of content from you to be honest. While I do really like some of your "What Happened to..." Series it isn't why I initially subbed to your channel and I feel you do a bit too many of them. Some more variety is very welcome. Good video, my dude
Yooo I've just stumbled onto your channel but I'm pretty amazed by not only how well thought your commentaries are but how cinematic your skits and little details are. Its kinda crazy to see this kind of quality by a lesser known Creator and I tink what you're doing is super cool and you should be way more known.
Even though I only really participated in the search a week before the short was found (guess you could say I was a good luck charm,) I still love that LMW managed to accomplish this. I was one of the people who helped to recover the English dub after the original Czech dub was uncovered. It was awesome to be a part of that experience, but NitrateNerd gets the real props for figuring out the short's name! :) I like GFM's Internet Mysteries videos. I feel like they're something a little more unique to this channel. There's a place for the What Happened To series, but these will definitely remain my favourites.
Pretty sure that show aired in 2004/2005 in german Nickelodeon. I have this vivid memory of that one creepy looking guy coming into a dark room from a clock but I don’t remember anything more, I was very young when that happened.
This sounds a lot like the Creepypasta, Candle Cove. I did a reading of it on my channel. This sounds similar but way more realistic because it's talking about a real network in its early days. A network with a LOT of lost media.
The Smurf Slayer Lack of interest in the past? Not realizing it’s lost? (May sound far fetched but not a lot of higher ups who have access to the media know it’s lost, like the Johnny Quasar situation) Certain contracts/restrictions that forbid the media to be released?
Nickelodeon has been known for not keeping their tape library in place, which is how some of it ends up being lost, or in this case, they are unable to air Pinwheel because they do not have the rights to play some of the international shorts that came with it.
Well, actually 1999 was the last time anything of Pinwheel was seen on Nickelodeon (a brief clip of it was shown in a montage commemorating the network's 20th Anniversary).
I've been watching your content for over five years, and I just have to say that this was your most well made video to date, the ads, the intro, and the content itself was the greatest thing you've made yet. From a big fan, PLEASE MAKE MORE LIKE THIS! So much effort it's incredible.
You are one of three youtubers I still watch from when I was in school, all the others content seemed to get stale for me but yours is still as interesting as ever, keep up the good work!
You guys ever heard of "Oh Canada". It's the stuff of legends, but evidence of it actually exists. It was a program that aired on Cartoon Network exactly at midnight. It was a series of different animated shorts that dealt with a lot of traumatizing themes like death and sex. I started to wonder if this whole show was just a childhood nightmare, but it TOTALLY exists. A few episodes are still on youtube, sadly not all though. Check it out. It's pretty neat.
I know I’m 2 years late, but I’ve heard of O Canada. I wasn’t around at the time to watch it, but I’ve heard that there’s some pretty surreal and dark stuff that was aired on it.
I can understand why people first thought that this cartoon wasn't real since it sounds dark for a children's cartoon. While I somewhat agree to that I have a simple argument against it, in the past and even to this day there have been alot cartoons, movies and books that are consired very dark for something that's aimed towards children. A few example for me are, the oz books and movies, fairy tales and more.
Amazing video as always, but more praise for making sponsor ads really fun to watch! From the Christmas tune playing in a summer month, to the sudden humor in a formal tone, and placement just before the content's climax :D
it looks like it was made in 1978. The illustrations remind me of the childcraft encyclopedias. lol man the first editions were had these same type of illustrations with that creepy pedo looking mime.
Wow, this was so good! I mean, I was hooked by your use of music and was drawn into the curiosity that was Clock Man. Very well produced, directed, and edited. And that commercial ..."Unfortunately, I can't read."
dropping a like for the skits. good shake up, loved the quality put into the middle segment (just some music and no color quality) and that's what kept me from skipping it.
the fact that the people vaguely remembering it, incorrectly recalling the child being male, and being male themselves, truly speaks for how terrifying the short story actually managed to be: it's like the empathy cringe factor in horror films. Also don't ever stop your style of including sponsored content and your intro/outro narratives, it is compelling and fun.
Firstly, I'd like to say, you are taking your content to a new level, very high production quality. I do look forward toward seeing what you have in store for us in your future videos. As for the subject... Indeed one to reminisce over, though I do not recall this short inparticular. I remember Pinwheel, though only vaguely. I was born in 1984, and don't recall seeing any further episodes past perhaps the age of 5... Many of my memories of the show are muddled with instances of dream and imagination, thus certain instances of my recollection are the show manifesting itself in dream, certain characters being muddled with pertinent areas of my young childhood accompanying them... I do so greatly miss those times, the world was full of wonder and infinite possibilities... Young childhood is certainly a surreal time.
I’ve been binge watching ur channel aswell as another very similar to you called Whang, about things being lost and etc. This opened my eyes to see how big the world really is. And we are only making it bigger with every step.
Since you seem to be good at finding obscure cartoons, maybe you can help me solve MY mystery. I can't remember the name of the puppet show, but it was set in a nursery and the 2 puppets were of an accordion baby girl and boy blanket. Can anyone help me, please?
This has been by far my favorite video you've ever made. I love the intro, and I'd love to see more little skits similar to it, and the addition of the clock at the end was classy. Keep improving man!
I had seen the clockman before but never knew where it came from, no joke I stared in awe when he popped up. I just was perplexed on how it linked with other things I've seen. Great content btw, been listening to your vids all day so far
Hey man I’ve been subbed/watching your channel for 4+ years and I wanna say that I’m glad your new content is entertaining and less monotone than how your content used to be. I watch these videos because they entertain me now and not just cause I’ll sit through a boring video to get knowledge on something. Keep it goin dude
I watched Pinwheel as a child whenever I visited my grandparents who had cable. I vaguely remembered the animated short but after seeing actual scenes from it, the memories all came flooding back in. It's still scary even today, in my 40s. Thanks for the flashback.
Your videos have just been getting better and better, with each new release i always have to ponder whether it's the best GFM video, keep up the good work!
Are you going to make a follow up to your Channel Awesome video in light of the revelations of Justin Carmichael's sexual misconduct and the roles the Channel Awesome executives (and some of the producers) played in covering up those crimes?
TheGamerFromMars I think the question is less about whether you believe the accusations, and more about how you feel about Channel Awesome now that they leaked the identity of the predator (among other huge idiotic choices in their second response). You were pretty defensive of them before, so I think many of us are just curious if you've changed your mind given their recent behavior.
Does anyone else remember watching this one promo on Cartoon Network where Billy had a nightmare about being in a cave, then Mandy woke up after having the dream of Billy walking into the cave, and then Grim woke up after having the dream of what happened, and then out of nowhere, Wilt wakes up, turns to the audience and says "I'm sorry, but I don't even *know* those people!"

While I somewhat agree to that I have a simple argument against it, in the past and even to this day there have been alot cartoons, movies and books that are consired very dark for something that's aimed towards children. A few example for me are, the oz books and movies, fairy tales and more.
I remember watching pinwheel and seeing the clock man. Didn't think it was a mystery.
Amazing video as always, but more praise for making sponsor ads really fun to watch! From the Christmas tune playing in a summer month, to the sudden humor in a formal tone, and placement just before the content's climax :D
Bro, that intro was badass.
The production quality of this video is off the scales! Amazing job GFM!
The clock man is actually...

I have been watching your content for years, but this is hands down my favorite! Please make more like this!
it looks like it was made in 1978.
"But, unfortunately for me, I can't read" I'm dead
You should totally do more these "long internet community search" type of videos. This kind of stories are amazing.
I actually contributed to that Bungie.Net thread myself. Glad we all contributed to a piece of internet history.
This intro alone is the reason why I knew subscribing a while back was the right thing to do! Your channel and content is AMAZING!
Wow I thought it was be made up like Candle Cove
dropping a like for the skits. good shake up, loved the quality put into the middle segment (just some music and no color quality) and that's what kept me from skipping it.
the fact that the people vaguely remembering it, incorrectly recalling the child being male, and being male themselves, truly speaks for how terrifying the short story actually managed to be: it's like the empathy cringe factor in horror films.
Sounds like a creepy pasta to me, like those"lost episodes" type ones.
I’ve been binge watching ur channel aswell as another very similar to you called Whang, about things being lost and etc. This opened my eyes to see how big the world really is. And we are only making it bigger with every step.
The great cinematography caught me off guard
This is your best video yet! The skit was really good and you presented all of the information very well.
Since you seem to be good at finding obscure cartoons, maybe you can help me solve MY mystery. I can't remember the name of the puppet show, but it was set in a nursery and the 2 puppets were of an accordion baby girl and boy blanket. Can anyone help me, please?
Willow76ny the emoji movie
try looking on some forums
Hmm perhaps "In the night garden"
Naruto
This has been by far my favorite video you've ever made. I love the intro, and I'd love to see more little skits similar to it, and the addition of the clock at the end was classy. Keep improving man!
This was a great video. One minor thing, I believe Pinwheel ended in 1990 not 1999.
I had seen the clockman before but never knew where it came from, no joke I stared in awe when he popped up. I just was perplexed on how it linked with other things I've seen. Great content btw, been listening to your vids all day so far
That intro was better than most modern horror movies
Hey man I’ve been subbed/watching your channel for 4+ years and I wanna say that I’m glad your new content is entertaining and less monotone than how your content used to be. I watch these videos because they entertain me now and not just cause I’ll sit through a boring video to get knowledge on something. Keep it goin dude
Fuck, 80s cartoons are so creepy.
I swear, between that intro, and all of those foreboding endings in previous videos, you're building up to something! I just have no idea what.
Do a what happened to ForestFire101? He is one of the most popular stop motion makers on UA-cam.
Ya
Intro skit was awesome. You're really taking the internet mysteries series to the next level!
video starts at 2:14
alphacino wrong video starts at 16:03
I've been passively watching this channel for a while. Your content has been improving. I enjoyed the little flourish at the end there.
1:32 Top 10 Characters that need to be in the next Smash
I watched Pinwheel as a child whenever I visited my grandparents who had cable.
I vaguely remembered the animated short but after seeing actual scenes from it, the memories all came flooding back in.
It's still scary even today, in my 40s.
Thanks for the flashback.
Oh, hey, Internet Mysteries is back. Cool.
By the way, what the hell was that intro?
Your videos have just been getting better and better, with each new release i always have to ponder whether it's the best GFM video, keep up the good work!
Are you going to make a follow up to your Channel Awesome video in light of the revelations of Justin Carmichael's sexual misconduct and the roles the Channel Awesome executives (and some of the producers) played in covering up those crimes?
I said in my original video that the sexual harassment claims seemed unfortunately true.
Brandon Roberts Well don't you feel silly now?
TheGamerFromMars I think the question is less about whether you believe the accusations, and more about how you feel about Channel Awesome now that they leaked the identity of the predator (among other huge idiotic choices in their second response). You were pretty defensive of them before, so I think many of us are just curious if you've changed your mind given their recent behavior.
Male feminists, amirite?
Blaster master Not sure how that's relevant.
Oh gawwwd the old Bungie forums. A flood of memories just rushed back to me.
pun intended
Oddl enough your internet mystery series is what got me into yoir channel, i had forgotten about the series (but watched your other videos) until now
It's ok art, I can't read either, thanks for telling us about audible!
Please make videos like these in the future, I really love this episode
Sorry I pressed the wrong button but I don’t know how to explain the pictures I saw
