I own a couple of these units and they're absolutely class-leading in ergonomics, which I think is the most important factor for devices like this. At the end of the day, lack of active PFC is really not going to move the needle for me as a consumer (it's really a grid-level concern for the most part), but having a low-profile device with an actual detachable AC cord and a good spread of C and A type ports is a big deal.
Even if it's slightly heavier and larger in total volume, this shape is way easier to pack and travel with than "travel" adapters that are big awkward cubes, and the removable cord makes it both easier to pack and much easier to find somewhere to plug it into in a hotel room where it'll actually stay plugged in considering the worn-out ports in most hotels.
I think you hit this one on the head! It is really easy to slip into a bag on the go and you can get a country specific cable if you need it so you can be safe too.
Useful, informative as always! Keep up the great work! ☺️
Thanks. Still waiting for that new 100w Anker announced at CES.
First time watcher, exactly what I was after in a review. Quality work!
Have the sub and the like! Well done.
Thanks!
I have the previous model of this (only 1 USB-C port) and use it every day because it is convenient due to the multi-port design and longer power cable. Great for charging up multiple cameras, laptops, tablets, etc. Not the fastest thing around, but pretty good for its size. Thanks for the review!
Yeah, port management and power distribution are very good on this charger. I hope they make a new 100W version.
Same model as mine. Which sadly gave out and c port no longer working after less than a year of use.
Ahh, that’s why all the phone suppliers stopped sending chargers out with new phones, you have them all 😂
Shhhh. Don’t want anyone to find out the secret.
Have 2 of these in my travel kit, they have been a great find. I love the cable I can detach and replace with one for my travel location. I usually leave one at the hotel and bring the send one to the office to power me through the day, never had troubles with it handling a MacBook Pro + an iPhone. Love it!
Yeah, I did a round of slip adapters, I think this is still the best of that bunch.
Thanks for your content! I subscribed, it's good to see someone actually testing the devices and not just saying "they look good". Since you know your stuff, I had a question. I have a similar Anker but a previous version with 18W and 45W USB C. I cannot charge my phone with either of the USB C slots. It starts and stops charging every 1-2 seconds. That is on a Galaxy S21 FE and an S22 with the original cables and other cables.
Funny thing is with the same charger on an older OnePlus 7, it would charge ok but when it would reach around 60% and until 71% charge it would do the same start stop but continue charging it. I've seen many people having this issue with different chargers. Would be good to know.
THanks!
Hmm, yeah, I have heard a little about issues like that. Charge loops with multiple ports plugged in so it doesn't know how to distribute the power is more common on older chargers. I try to test a bunch of conditions and I've been trying to find an adapter that acts poorly while charging but I haven't found any that do things like that yet. No matter what the charger should always complete charging even if at 5V but some multiport devices do turn off the other ports (INVZI, MINIX), laptops and devices that require hirer voltages would stop. OR the device itself is deciding to stop charging. Why is an unknown though.
This is a great review thanks for the great explanation. It would be helpful to rank your power adaptors relative to the equivalent Apple power adaptor. To see if the tested device does better or worse. Doing this type of relative comparison would help draw in a more main stream audience.
Yeah, I started removing adapters from the comparison list because there are so many. I have a web database in process where all of these will be comparable and lots of others that never got videos but yeah a vs apple or vs anker combo video will be coming eventually.
I use one of these as a travel charger. Light enough to keep in luggage and runs cool when powering my laptop and other devices. It will be a win for the average person. Did you open it up? Just asking in case you can comment on safety aspects. I’m more concerned about contacting the mains or starting fires than price.
I haven't opened this one up yet.
This isn’t perfect, but it works well for me as a travel adapter across multiple continents - as I switch between EU / UK / Japan-US mains leads when I travel. It packs flat in a tech pouch and it’s pretty light.
It provides enough power to recharge a tablet or phone quickly, and the mix of C and legacy ports is handy.
I agree this power adapter has utility in that space. The shape is actually well designed on this one. All the newer Anker adapters don't seem to get it...
Where do you get the different power leads?
I'm also curious where you get the different power leads!
@@MiriamFollin if its any help you just need to look for a 2 prong laptop power cable from the country in question theres like 4-6 general flavors to choose from
or here's kinda "stupid" idea is to check every major ikea store in any major region and check for Fornimma power cord
Hey, thanks for the video, really informative. You say the 45W port cuts out at 56W, does that mean a laptop for eg can charge at 55W from this port or is it more complex than that?
That would be a fault condition, in reality it will negotiate a max. charge rate of 45W. Some poorer actors out there may push this though and trip that over current causing loops. Most devices though 45W at least on the appropriate port.
Thanks man 💥💪
It’s another power adapter. Kind of mediocre… too many like this.
Can you please add the PS5 Dualsense controller to your charge tests? I've found they won't charge on a lot of Anker devices, including this one.
hmm, yeah, that might be worth checking out, maybe a hack can make it more compatible.
Good review, this device seems expensive for what you actually get.
I agree.
I believe Anker just released their GaNPrime line of chargers. Would love to see you review some, if not all of them. Personally, I'm interested in seeing the performance of the 65W 733 model, since it doubles as a power bank.
Yep, all on the way. Also, head to head with Baseus on the power bank charger thing... should be a good one!
Hey there! Does the 45 W USB-C port resets when plugging/unplugging the USB-A ports? I'm aware it does reset when plugging something on the other 20W USB-C port. This is what is inching me to either buy this or not.
I am not sure. I sold this one on already so I can't check.
@@AllThingsOnePlace I bought it anyway, and it does not cause voltage renegotiation. The USB-A ports are 5V fixed, and do not interfere with the USB-C ports. So you get full 45 watts on one of the USB-C ports, and 15 watts between the USB-A ports without issues or renegotiation. Thanks!
This is my favorite charger not considering watts... I wish they kept this form factor so you don't have a huge mess on the outlet end. The indicator led is a nice touch too.
Yeah, it is not the most efficient, actually anything slim I looked at seems to sacrifice efficiency. It shouldn't have to but they do to shave a few mm off. Overall this is a decent charger though.
Was looking for a review of this device and this is a proper review! I decided to buy one for my device since my older Anker four 5V ports was screaming like an banshee on low loads (
Hmmm, yeah, that does seem a little low but as long it doesn't cut out it is high enough to charge the pack. Anker tends to ride a little low on the voltage side. There is also the USB cable loss so depending on what cable you could be losing a decent amount of volts.
My other old Anker power supply reports a more steady 4.4V on the power bank. Per your smart suggestion I tested different cables and found out that, indeed, I used a bad cable for my tests. Using a 6ft Anker Powerline+ I'm getting a steady 4.7V while using a 3ft cable bundled with another phone I'm getting 4.9V. The older Anker charger, using the same good known cable, is reporting an oscillating 5.0-5.1V tension. I don't think it matters just like seeing 4.9V. Watching your video I saw on the load tester that the device sends around 4.9V so I think it's totally in spec and I've made a mistake. Thank you for being so kind and helpful.
Adam Savage would be so proud of you, cause you really implement the tested philosophy. HEHE. Well, your right, this is a middle of the road charger, I am not really impressed with it. I don't think this is the kind of charger that you just want to leave plugged into your wall either. I think one of the reasons why I am only interested in the 100W class or above chargers, is because they have active PFC, and that matters to me. Plus, always looking for a high efficiency rating. The better the adapter can convert the energy for charging, the more efficient it will be, less power draw on the grid and all that.
I picked this charger fully expecting the results. Actually, its behavior is a bit better in terms of USB port management than some others. I wonder what is taking so long on the new 100W Anker power adapter.
@@AllThingsOnePlace I'm wondering what's taking so long too. It seems weird, a product shown at CES to be released in March, and here we are in May, and it still isn't here, not even a mention of it on their website! At this point I lost patience and spent my money on something I need more then a super fast charger. If they ever release the darn thing, I'll still be interested in your review though.
I have a lot of Anker products; they used to be premium quality(?) but now seems like only the price is premium
Anker has maintained the quality I think. I’ve torn down some newer and older devices and they try to make a good product. Price wise, yes, they’ve shifted to more of the premium side of the market (here in 2022 everything is more expensive though).
I am in the market for the slimmest laptop charger to carry in a laptop sleeve. Not going to use it it daily but want to carry it with me just in case. This is the slimmest ive found so far or are there any better alternatives? Need 30W minimum and as slim as possible.
This is probably the best bet for reasonable charge power. For less, there are options. I have a video coming (no idea when) on slim chargers. The advantage this likely has over those others is the replaceable cable and it is safety listing. A lot of the slim chargers are pretty scary.
Good to know and thnx for the reply. I have now ordered one and subbed!
Where can I get different power cords for different countries?
I would check monoprice.
Would a figure 8 cable rated at 50 watts work with this power port or would it cause issues/not charge? Thanks in advance!
Not sure what you mean by figure 8, you mean the AC plug? 50 watts is a very low rating for that side though.
Yep I’m referring to the ac plug! Just for context I’m planning on purchasing this anker device in Australia and would like to grab a USA ac plug to use it as a travel charger for my devices. Would it be harmful if the wattage is higher than 65watts in this case? I have only been able to find a 50watts plug from Amazon Australia so far
Too much for me (knowledge wise) xD butttttttt was exactly what i was looking (data i cant understand but is important in such decision and comparision of similar products).Perfect video!
Thanks for watching. Yeah, I've toned down the technical aspects in newer videos.
Excellent, thank you!
You are welcome and hopefully many more videos to come.
My S23ultra is charging in normal charge only. Not sure if the prob is this atom 3 or i need to use other power cord. My s23ultra is charging in my friend's samsung charger though by 45watts using the same Samsung cord. Why is that?
Sounds like the charger is not supplying the correct PD mode if the cable and phone work with a different charger. The PPS mode on this charger is lower current so I wouldn't expect 45W charging to work from this device.
@@AllThingsOnePlace thanks very much for the info. I have shortened myself to some info i need to learn more abiut before buying, rather than sticking to the specs posted. 👍🏻👍🏻
HI would this charge a Nintendo Switch thanks ???
Just looking it up, it isn't on the supported devices list. This charger is effectively a single 45W device, so the port you use matters. For charging with the nintendo dock, it should work fine, no guarantees, port dependent, then also if you have multiple devices plugged in it may have issues with power negotiation. The switch itself uses 5V though so any of the ports should work for that.
OK thanks For the help, I have one to try from Amazon , If it does not work it can always go Back, thank you for helping
