Dave wasn't actively sought out because PJ were successful in vilifying him in the music circles they were in. Plus after PJ, Dave was essentially "over it". Based on the interviews he has had since then, his name was mud during that time. He was one of the best rock drummers on the globe. And he just wanted to disappear. He did exactly that but he also was able to heal with his band called "Green Romance Orchestra" a few years later. So glad I found this video, I was at this concert and I remember the fence coming down as people were climbing over it to get to the show, and down the big hill they rolled! Best show I've ever been to, outdoors, perfect weather watching Pearl Jam in their prime during a beautiful sunset. So much energy from this band.
All the talk of Pearl Jam drummers, but for the career that Pearl Jam have had, it’s partly through changing drummers and trying out different sounds. This is why their albums have been so varied so I think it’s great we had all these different drummers.
I was at this show too, with a few other ex Air Force buddies. Near the stage, security kept spraying water on us because it was hot, but kept doing it as the sun was going down and it got chilly. Neil Young got into a hissy fit with a roadie while he played over the direction of a fan (not the concert goer kind, the cooling kind). He also got off on a feedback tangent that I thought was a waste of time. Blind Melon was great. But the proverbial schitt really hit the fan when Pearl Jam came on. People started raining down from the cheap seats, breaking down barriers. It was on the Seattle news that night. We were caught in a HUGE mosh pit the entire time, lol. It was freakin scary and exhilarating at the same time. Epic show and the next day we felt grateful to be alive, uninjured having survived the pit! Thanks for posting this video, can’t wait to see it again!

Every Pearl Jam video from this era, the comments always discuss Dave Abbruzzese. I agree, I prefer his drumming to any other Pearl Jam drummer. He really adds power and rock to their sound. I like it. He's really tight too. He's a drummer that you definitely notice and feel. I can understand if his vibe didn't mesh with a more laid back artisan attitudes.
