    You need to do this over. Your flame on your camp-chef was completely wrong. it should be "blue" not flame "yellow." Best method is just use a portable 5 gallon bottle. This way you are not limited with where you can keep your grill. Important: Make sure that you the stove is off before turning on the propane bottle. Then turn on the bottle "slowly" if not the "limit switch" will click on the bottle and you won't have the "Blue" flame. Once you get the "blue" flame then do your timer again. It will be much faster!

      Good eye. I didn't realize that the Camp Chef had an adjustable air vent when I did the video. It was also putting off a ton of black soot from the inefficient burning. I found the adjustable vents on a subsequent camping trip. After adjusting, it burns nice and blue. I think you're right about redoing the video. It was an early video for me and I think I could skinny it up to just the parts about how to swap out the hose and parts. Thanks for watching!

    I've owned over the years,several similar Camp Chefs.They were all heavy.The present one has fold out legs and I hate that because it makes it heavier.A prior Camp chef you did like yours and installed legs...or put on a table.I really liked the Lifetime table setup. It gives you plenty room to prep on,etc.

      Good info. We continue to use our every single trip. It has just become the primary way we cook at this point. I can't recommend it enough.

    Would it be less fuss just to install a quick disconnect on to the Camp Chef and then the necessary male ends on the propane hose? That way you don't need to wrench anything on or off and the hose can be taken off for easier transport and storage.....

    • @GoTogetherGoFar
      @GoTogetherGoFar  3 роки тому

      Could be. I think there are handful of ways to make it work. Regardless of the one you choose, it is way better then the old bumper grill. It has completely changed the way we cook when camping.

      @@GoTogetherGoFar Yeah for sure! Thanks for the ideas, it really helped. I was thinking of trying to attach the male end of a quick connect to the stove but I can't find a 3/8" flare x 1/4" NPT coupling/adaptor. That way, the hose could be disconnected from the stove .
      That 12' hose dangling there is a pain when you have to transport the stove or store it and wrenching it off all the time seems kinda needless.

    Something is going on with your flame. It should not be bright yellow/orange like that. Not sure if this model has the air adjustment, but your flame should be all blue.

      Good eye! You're right. I was also having issues with lots of soot. Turns out I had a little air valve closed on the Camp Chef. And it was causing the propane to burn yellow and turn everything black. I don't think I closed them because I didn't even realize they were there till I started trying to figure out the issue. It burns much better now that I opened them.

      @@GoTogetherGoFar Ah nice! Glad to hear you sorted it out! I love my camp chef. Did a very similar hack as you did. My pop-up has the Dozyant connection, so I just bought an adapter to go from the camp chef furnished connection (with the regulator) to the dozyant hose I already had. It's not as clean of a look as yours but it works and I still use my camp chef at home so its easy, quick twist of the adapter and I can connect right to the propane tank at home. Thanks for the vid!

    Is it possible to just add the male part of the quick connect to stove and have a female on both the stock hose and longer hose.

    • @GoTogetherGoFar
      @GoTogetherGoFar  3 роки тому +1

      I tried to do that. It turns out that all the female ends of the hoses I found were not the right size. I had to use the adapter to make it fit.

    I have a question. I want to connect my Camp Chef Big Gas grill to my travel trailer. My trailer came with a 1 burner griddle to connect to the quick connect, but that also has a regulator. Is it safe to connect the grill directly to the rv quick connect without a regular?

    • @GoTogetherGoFar
      @GoTogetherGoFar  Рік тому

      You need a regulator. But check ans see if you have one with your propane in the front. My regulator is up there.

    @Go Together Go Far I have a camp chef explorer 3X three burner stove and I want to copy what you did here. However I noticed that the new long propane hose you connected doesn't have a regulator on it. Is a regulator necessary? Thank you.

    • @GoTogetherGoFar
      @GoTogetherGoFar  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Marco. Yes a regulator is necessary. The difference is that I am hooking into my RV propane which already has a regulator at the front where the propane bottles are. If you have the same set up, you probably have one there too. Hope that helps.

    I have more than one appliance I would to use the RV quick disconnect propane line for (Camp Chef and Fire bowl) not at the same time, but it looks like with your setup it would require 2 separate hoses, one on each device. Is there a way to put a quick disconnect on the camp chef side of the line?

    • @GoTogetherGoFar
      @GoTogetherGoFar  2 роки тому

      I looked for that type of connection but never really found one that I thought would work. I'm sure they are out there though.

    Curious in response to previous point about Camp Chef saying not to do this then why do they sell an RV Quick Connect hose on their site?
    Question on set up though. Our RV came with a quick connect hose(male attached to RV then female attached to Camp Chef). What I need is just the male fitting to screw onto Camp Chef that will accept female side of quick connect hose. Can you point me in direction of that fitting considering the size it needs to be to thread onto Camp Chef? Thanks

    • @GoTogetherGoFar
      @GoTogetherGoFar  4 роки тому

      Hi Zach. To your first question, yes I think this is okay to do to a Camp Chef. To your point, Camp Chef literally sells the the LP hose to do it on their website. I found that after the fact. I think the other viewer had a valid point about understanding the larger picture of what is going on with your equipment. The single LP regulator on your RV may not be ready to handle heating the RV, stove, fridge, water heater, and this kick butt Camp Chef all at the same time. In his boondocking situation, he is probably right. In a weekend warrior situation, it is probably fine. In fact, we used it just this weekend and it works awesome. We added the Camp Chef griddle to it and my wife was thrilled.
      To your other question, I went back and looked at my Amazon order. The hose I ordered that screwed into the Camp Chef has a 3/8th Female Flair Fitting and a 1/4 quarter inch full flow male fitting. When I search for a 3/8 female quick connect fitting, I think it is returning fittings that take a 3/8th male adapter instead of the 1/4 inch one. I think what I would do pick up a simple fitting that will fit your hose. Probably something like the link I'll add below. Once you get it, take it to Lowes/Home Depot, and pick up a brass 3/8th adapter.
      This modification really did work great for us. I must have seen 4 other campers with something similar this weekend. Thanks for subscribing! Let us know how it goes!
