- Tight squeezes, crazed bats, leaping lizards, swarms of buzzing insects, herds of swarming cane toads and a strange intense humid heat: This bizarre abandoned mine exploration once owned by Sam Elliott has them all. This is the second part of my exploration of Sam Elliott's gold mine deep in the Australian bush. Old Sam lived and died right here at the mine. I think he left a few of his little friends from Hades behind because this was one of the strangest, creepiest and downright frightening mine or cave exploration I have ever done.

Beau...You stand more of a danger petting the toads than worrying about the Bats. The average bat is a insect eater and not really looking for your blood or even hair...LOL

Even though Australia is "officially" rabies-free, there is still some rabies to be found there. Australian bat lyssavirus (ABLV), discovered in 1996, is a strain of rabies prevalent in native bat populations. It's fatal in humans, but only 3 people have died from it (that we know of).

I would have done this mine right there with you. There were some interesting patches of rock that I would have been looking closer at. Nice that you had a chance to explore it.
When I was 4 years old I had to go through rabies shot vaccine. Got attacked by a stray dog. At that time I had to get 21 shots in my stomach. I can't stand to even look at syringes to this day at 60 years old.

Considering these are modern items I am not as worried as I would be if it were an ancient cave. Not much difference in moving these items and a shovel leaning on the side of a building.

I got a kick out of this video. I watch channels where they do extensive abandoned mine exploration out west, larger operations than this, but none of them has the personality of The Aquachigger. Chigg makes everything more fun!

Holy Cow Chigg, that looked like one hellish mine shaft. You couldn't have got me into that thing for any money. I saw a few cane toads when living in Hawaii, but that was the toad road to H. E. double toothpick for sure. Then to add to the joy of it all, there were the bats. I don't do bats, not even on a good day! That you went in anyway speaks to either your nerves of steel, or you have bats in your belfry! I am not sure which?! At any rate, I am glad you and Warren made it out safe and sound, 'cause it sure scared the liver out of me! Chills and thrills, just in time for Halloween! That's our Chigg! I'd be more worried about diseases carried in the various guano paving the floor than a couple of bats flying around!
That is a Cave Gecko!
You know like a Leopard gecko.
They only bite if provoked and feel threatened but the bites don't hurt, there teeth are small. Unlike something like a Tokay gecko witch would draw some blood.

Those could be fungus gnats, which very often live in caves.

cane toads That said, if properly prepared, they're actually edible. In recent years, chefs throughout Queensland and Australia's Northern Territory have been conjuring up recipes that incorporate cane toad legs.Now thats some legs on those frogs lol

Even if a bat runs into you, you are supposed to go to the doc. Bats can leave micro abrasions in the skin that rabies can be transmitted through, a kid in his early 20's near me just recently passed away from rabies and all that happened to him is a bat hit his hand and there were no cuts visible at the time. very spooky..
Hi just want to let you know Bats in Australia do have a type of Rabies. I watch a channel Megabattie . And she rescues bats flying fox bats. Please check with a hospital.

This is not the Sam Elliott that I was expecting, but Chigg is handsome enough so I'm not mad.
The father in law has those bats living in his house. They like to eat insects. You should be more worried about their excrement, has a disease that swells the brain or something. Also large piles of guano attract centipedes. Running screaming would have been a better option.

Hey man thanks for the video I enjoyed it and I just got bit by a deer tick 2 days ago but I still think he may be in there I had my friend dig them out but I still think I'm going to see the doctor and get some antibiotics because you can get Lyme disease from ticks it's always check yourself for ticks to you can still get them in the winter
Dont you worry about poisonous gases that leach out of the rocks? It could kill you quick. I watched an explorer in south America go into a mine and was overcome in less than a half minute. They had to blow fresh air in there for hours to make it safe. Beau you have to quit taking unnecessary chances, we will watch your adventure's anyways. Please exercise caution.

I was thinking about the weight of the ground above you as well as the lack of oxygen except from the entry along with the smell that you were talking about...I get short of breath just from that!!! I was wondering if there was a thermal running somewhere under you to up the humidity and heat?

There is only one reason why it’s hot inside and it stinks and that would be that they dug all the way down to where the fires of hell are just below which explains why they stopped mining there. To go any further would have consumed them.

I found a hole like that in the mountain it goes in far I threw a rock in there and u can hear it go far! I thought about going in but there's also traffic from animals but if I had a partner I'd bet there be cool stuff in there cause no goes were this is!
