I understand what you're saying. I'm 52, have heard hundreds of thousands of rock bands, so I'm a true Rock and roller. When I tell you that Ween is literally one of the greatest bands I've ever heard in my life you should take that to the highest level. If the Beatles are at 10 I give Ween a 9.5, no joke. They have over 300 songs for you to listen to. I don't know any other band in the history of music that can literally do just about any style of music and sound fantastic. If so you tell me what that other band is because I don't know who they are. Ween is weird yes snd extremely brilliant and knows how to bleed life into their recordings. You want a band that you can feel and know that they have a serious connection with their music? Ween is that band !

Molly wasn't a term for MDMA back in 1991. Back then it was called Ecstacy or "X" and it wasn't popular in the US at all. In the late 90's it was called E and pure MDMA was referred to as "pures." Around 2008-ish is when the term "molly" became a thing, and it was specifically referring to pure MDMA. Only in the last few years has Molly been a slang term for all that encompasses MDMA.

    • @andrewbarnes1571

The answer is no, it's not the worst album ever made.
It's inspiring that 2 people can get a drum machine and make epic tracks and have fun while doing it. This is how every band should start. You're missing context (know who randy Newman is to get jammy pack, have had a drug dealer to understand dr. rock, listen to stuff like Dio's "Holy Diver" to get the bombastic vibe behind the stallion, and a shit ton of early Pink Floyd to get "right with the ways.") A lot of ween is about vibes, channeling shit they were listening to and loved and dumping it out in their own way. Like being possessed a bit.
Also listen to Leonard cohen's greatest hits, which is where the album art came from. Even if you hate ween, listen to it, he's a great artist.

When they perform songs from their early albums when it was just the two of them, they take on a different tone and personality. Like you said Dr Rock is a live fave, Laura is as well and Cpt Fantasy.

All of their songs are amazing live, the studio album versions are a bit drab, but they are all interesting in their own way. GodWeenSatan was quite unrefined, the pod was a face punch, Pure Guava which is the album I like the least is pretty weird, Their best album though is 12 greatest country songs. Specially Fluffy, the brownest Country song ever made.
Just like many others who are relatively new fans, my first time hearing them was in Spongebob. Although not the ocean man song... but loopdeloop.

you should check out Z-Rock Hawaii by Z-Rock Hawaii. It's basically a collab between ween and eye from the boredoms. They couldn't communicate much because of the language barrier, but eye apparently really liked their dog and played a lot with it haha.
Anyway it's a great experience and the cd even comes with a program where you can apparently pop bubbles and a snippet of the music from the album plays.
The best tracks on it are "The meadows", "Get a little taste of you" and "Chuggin'"

i used to pick and choose my ween songs. You know, A dr rock here an Ocean man there, and a bananas and blow too. I'd avoid their songs I found weird like strap on that jammy pack, or spinal meningitis. but after listening to big playlists and skipping a lot of songs I started listening to their albums in full and in order. Now I don't think there's a single song that I don't like. All their songs became a little peak inside their brains, even the ones that are overtly brown as fuck provide an amazing insight. From start to finish Ween is an absolutely insane and amazing experience. I think It comes from the lore behind the band as well as the gradual growth of Aaron and Mickey. You really get to listen to them go from boys to men throughout their albums. I never had another band I liked give me an experience like that. They are really special to me, and Ill be a fan for life. Gene Ween, and Dean Ween are my heroes. GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME!

The only way this is "the worst album ever made" is if you didn't GET THE JOKE. It's a piss-take on the profession of the music industry that this little punk rock berserk gem of a weird album launched Ween's entire career, pretty much, and it sounds like it was recorded using a 2-track Edison CYLINDER machine hooked up to a Commodore 64 computer. I mean. IT doesn't matter that it's a wonky sounding album. What mattered is the spirit of the art that lives inside it. I love this insane album.

"for People Like Us" - Mamas and Papas (unexpectedly lame for their standard)
"Trout Mask Replica" - C Beefheart (love it or hate it, it's a polarizing album)
"Philosophy of the World" - The Shaggs (seriously, it's bad, but loved by Cobain)
"People Sex Over the Phone" Village People (the title is preview enough)
"Time" by Fleetwod Mac (they ran out of time, and members)
'"Never Let Me Down" (Tin Machine was the focus , so this fulfilled the contract)

The worst album would not be made by a known band, much less a famous one.
Think of the worst music you've ever heard, and rest assured, the worst album is far worse than that.
It would not be amusing to even discuss the worst album, as it would probably be either so low-effort or so avant garde that it would be akin to rating a recording of static.
This channel is good for discussing underrated and overrated music, but you would do best to avoid truly bad music. I only watched this video because a friend asked me to, but if it was labeled in a less clickbait-y manner, I might have been tempted to click on this video naturally.
