My wife is on the team. I have had the honor to sit in and listen to the development meetings. Every meeting is a wildfire of ideas being shared, of new and old friendships and ends with everyone saying "love you guys". No one person ever seems to control the board, it's a true equality of thoughtful ideas and design. This project represents decades of imagination waiting for the technology to catch up to show it. This game means so much to the team and by extension they want it to be something that means so much to us. We will be supporting the kickstarter and I hope every true lover of the genre is willing to do so as well. Because it is long past due we had something like this again, real adventure.
Love this comment
It really says everything 😊
Sounds good!
It's because Daggerfall had such an impact on all of us growing up that we just want to see updated equivalent of this game. This is the time to make it as tools are getting better for indies. And also the core Elder Scrolls games slowly over time started to take more features out of them that it we all feel is getting dumbed down a bit too much. Ted can save the open world CRPG genre from becoming too normie-friendly. It needs to come back to being a game for nerds who remember the 1990s when games required you use a bit of grey matter.
This might sound like a tangent but, the only thing that worries me about such approach is that when that happens, there is potential for those who are more ideologically possessed (even to toxic degrees), to have a louder voice, eclipsing that of others, spouting doctrine with conviction and moving conversations to fit their own personal goals whenever there isn´t any strong leadership... And we have seen this before dozens of times already in AAA gaming, just in the last few years.
All I hope is for this game to reflect an understanding on how naturally complementary and beautiful female/male relationships are, and to not devolve into the common men vs women scenarios that feminism in any entertainment media so famously produces.
I want to escape the hellscape even if for just a moment, I hope your team can deliver us this wish many of us fantasy fans have, so we can pretend things are not so bad in the real and increasingly unstable world.
The closest we'll get to a main line elder scrolls followup within a reasonable time frame, but with the charm of Daggerfall on a much newer engine. I couldn't be more excited!
TES6 will release before this.
@@Pat315 You do know ESVI has an estimated 2029 release date at the earliest
@@-pROvAK lol estimated by who? The longest it has ever taken for BGS to release a game is just under five years and that was in large part due to the pandemic and them overhauling their engine.
More importantly,Bethesda has shown a steep decline game to game. Starfield is straight up bad. The next ES will be a single play through railroad that you'll enjoy once and never touch again@@-pROvAK
@@patrick-pv8cg its already been like five years since ESVI was announced.
Please be careful on choosing a publisher and read contracts carefully. Many a game ruined by greedy publishers.
Nah they will not fall for that. There's a reason why they left Bethesda
They've already turned down at least one publisher for this exact reason. I forget where but one of the devs said the publisher was trying to get them to streamline the game or something, which obviously ted and the team didn't want to do.
People who fund the kickstarter may help fund the future enjoyment of a 'classic' rpg for many future people.
Don't fall for it... so many let downs..
@@Aggravath Low expectations is also good
This might actually be the first kickstarter I support.
me too
Yeah
Me 2
Think I will too . I know everyone think oblivion was a step down but when I played that I was blown away(I hadn't played anything like that) . I want to feel like that again. Didn't with skyrim.
Same here... I hope im not making a mistake...
"Rest well this night...." this still gives me shivers
for tomorrow...you'll sail for the kingdom...of Daggerfall.
Very much hoping this is going to bring Immersive Dungeon Crawling into the 2020s... Good luck folks.
Daggerfall quickly became my favorite Elder Scrolls game after going back through the series, and is what inspired me to begin coding. I hope I can play Wayward Realms soon, and I want this project to succeed.
I've never even considered a kickstarter before but this seems more like an obligation. I remember seeing Daggerfall screenshots on preview articles in 90's gaming magazines and excitedly showing them to my friends.
Congratulations getting this far and best of luck for the future.
1:50 CLIMBING LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I've been vertically challenged by perpindicular objects in 3d spaces for too long.
Eons before Breath of the Wild had the "climb almost anywhere" system, Daggerfall was like
*Yes, you can be Spider-Man*
@@BloodWraith777 if only there were things to actually climb in Daggerfall lmao
Outside of premade dungeons, that is
Dual-wielding please 🙏🏻
@@thosebloodybadgers8499 don't tell me you didn't scale literally any building to get away from the city guard, or break into the second story door of a bank to rob it. No imagination
We need more passionate devs like you guys, I hope you get the recognition you deserve!
in march they had reached over 100k wishlists so it is on its way
1:50 climbing? Hell yeah
Dual-wielding please 🙏🏻
Backing the shit out of this. Y'all are carrying a long-dropped torch and I'm deeply grateful for that. Cannot wait for the early access release.
Good thing gamer tears are flammable
Very excited, best of luck to everyone involved
First one I supported was KCD and I wasn't disappointed. This game will be my second
Im happy to see that the Oblivion face zoom has returned ^^
Antiquated feature was removed in favour of gameplay fluidity. Bringing it back is a negative.
Why is that supposed to be a good thing?
something easily adjusted via console commands so I'd hope they add in a slider to turn the effect on or off variably. For the simpletons who can't figure out how to console... :)
@@Pat315 Ah, the touristic Dunning Kruger... How I missed it. *Check bingo card*
@@ProsecutorValentine i suppose that sounded much better in your head.
A project with these high aspirations is a mighty challenge for your team. Be careful not to dilute the promise you are creating by mission creep. I enthusiastically and heartily support your decision to focus on creating the game, not the game engine, by using the amazing tool that is the Unreal engine. Shipping a strong and solid game that fulfills the potential here will be a feat indeed. I do believe it can be done if you keep your vision clear, especially when considering a publisher. Your stated emphases are spot on in every detail as far as I am concerned. Larian has demonstrated recently, and Warhorse some years before, that games like this are powerfully viable products if done without foolish compromises. The right publisher will believe in the old vision of gaming analagously to the rest of your team believing in that vision in art, lore, writing, etc.
Genuinely cheering for you. As long as you are and remain both
1) authentically player-focused in your development choices and
2) consistently communicative in the development process
I think the market for this game will be there for your pre-release stage(s), starting with crowdfunding. Looking forward to the opportunity to lend a hand via Kickstarter.
It is appreciated, and yes, we aim to stick to our vision and share as much as we can with the community. We feel this is your game as much as ours.
@@OnceLostGames best community manager ever! =)
@@OnceLostGames Best of luck. You guys should ask Todd Howard for some money to help you out. Tell him you want him to talk to Microsoft to fund it and then make it a gamepass title. I think if this game goes to the gamepass service your exposure to the world will be much larger. Gamepass lets you try out games free so long as you are subscribed to the service. IT's the perfect way to get your name out there because many lesser known developers got fame from being on there. One of the recent ones was the developers behind Lies of P. (It's a Dark Souls clone) Talk to Todd, get him to talk to the Microsoft guys who are desperate to build their library of indie exclusives and see what happens. MS has the windows platform too perhaps for bug-testing purposes you want them to assist in bug testing later if you get on the gamepass service. (this is what happened with Starfeild where MS own bugtesters helped Bethesda to get the bugs out of Starfield quickly)
Anyway it's just a suggestion. If you need money you should talk to the companies about your game and see if you can get some support from old bethesda employees.
People are thirsty for an Elder Scrolls-like game and even the guys behind No Man's Sky is making an open world game. (Light No Fire) Barely any news on Elder Scrolls 6 so now is the right time to talk during a quiet period.
As a Daggerfall Fan, I like how much Daggerfall is brought up in relation to this.
Makes me hopeful I'll like the game.
Daggerfall was my first game, I watched my father play it on DosBox when I was little. I am so happy to see a game this ambitious in trying to recapture the spirit and vastness. Cant wait :)
Made a Kickstarter account specifically to back this project. Really looking forward to seeing a return to the golden age of RPGs.
Best of luck to the team, and thank you for taking a chance!
Thank you for the support!
40+ old here. Daggerfall was the very first RPG I ever played (funny... my dad was supposed to get me Diablo and instead he returned home with the HUGE Daggerfall box). I can't wait for Wayward Realms. Eager to back!
I'm so relieved you guys still make games to this day; because this project sounds like a blessing in this day and age.
Congrats guys! Can't wait for the Kickstarter. I'm sure it'll do super well.
So excited for more Eric Heberling composition! Just restarted a Daggerfall Unity run. I'm beyond excited for this!!!
I'm unfortunatley not in a position to offer any money to this kickstarter but I will be spreading awareness!! This project has so much in what I've been looking for in a modern RPG, will be following very closely!
Spreading the word helps us immensely. We greatly appreciate it!
Welp, here it is: first time I'm supporting a Kickstarter campaign ❤
Yea, same. I believe in this project.
my goodness it looks amazing, also 4 thats 4 times you made me panic that I'd missed the kickstarter luanch! also great to hear from Ted
This project somewhat reminds me of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which also used Kickstarter and turned out to be a massive success. There's a huge market for these types of games that triple A studios have completely ignored. There's no doubt in my mind that Wayward Realms will be a similar success story.
Fingers crossed! 🤞
this looks great. one of many things that caught my eye was that you could fire an arrow at a lantern to take out the light to help you sneak. im an amateur dev whos dream game to make was always a mix of Daggerfall and Thief and that moment is what made me back you on kickstarter. ironically, youve relit a flame i had let go out.
Daggerfall was a dream made true. I remember fondly reading magazines' articles about it. Bought it as soon as it was possible. And everything was great.
My most beloved game ever as an old roleplayer.
Always have been disappointed since by any possible successor. And now, listening to you, learning about the project, I'm feeling excited like the young adult I was.
I will be glad to support you and please, choose your publisher wisely.
Let’s go baby! I’ve been following this for a few years now. We will be backing when the kickstarter drops. 😎
This has potential to be one of the best games ever made. Daggerfall is a flawed masterpiece, and I have no doubt that with your ambition, and given the right budget/team/time, and the much better technology we have today, The Wayward Realms will be one of the best gaming experiences ever made. I'm looking forward to seeing if that potential works out or not.
I look forward to this game very much.
can't wait to buy this game
I created a kickstarter account just to support you guys! I can't wait to try the early access version! What is you planned release platforms? Steam, Epic ?
Just Steam for now.
@@OnceLostGames I hope you eventually go with GOG as well, Good Old Games is a platform FULL of folks who would jump at the chance to play something that draws so heavily on old school CRPG design philosophies.
We do plan on it. We have even discussed it with them before. @@YouTubdotCub
This mountain is HUGE!)
Goodluck to all. Awesome to hear and waiting kickstart pledges!
I started elder scrolls with morrowind in 2005 when I was ten years old, and have been a bethesda fan ever since. I only ever played daggerfall after the Unity port/mod came out and oh my god I loved it. Back in the early/mid 2010s i backed project eternity, torment tides of numenera, and wasteland 2 with money from my first job at starbucks. Ive only backed 1 kickstarter since then but now that im 29 and have a full blown career, you can definitely count on me to back at a decent level. I have been craving more RPGs that arent just action games, or story focused games, but a game that simulates the whole world and tells you to just go live in it. There hasnt been anything to scratch this itch in over a decade. I miss games that just let you be a citizen, own a home, get married, join a guild, get a job, etc. this game is literally a dream come true for me, especially after falling in love with daggerfall well past its original release. The only 2 other games ive seen that might scratch this itch are The World of Antera (which is the one i backed and has charming pixel art) and Mirthwood (which appears to be coming this fall! - it looks more like 2D fable with a paperdoll artstyle)
But the wayward realms being a modern 3D daggerfall sipiritual successor is literally a dream come true. Every few months I look the game up to see if theres any. Ew info, but today I didn’t have to and it was recommended to me! I am SO happy!! B
Thank you once lost games for making games that scratch a itch for a niche and for making a game you guys are passionate about even if its not a industry norm these days. This is by FAR my most anticipated game in years! Heck, probably my most anticipated game in over a decade. It may sound corny but i feel like i could literally cry since nobody has been making these types of games in so long. From the bottom of my heart thank you once lost games!!!! I will be sure to give as much helpful feedback as possible!
Now im gonna go player daggerfall unity again lol
Thank you for the support!
Can't wait, looks awesome. You have my support!
I have a good feeling that you guys are able to pull it off! I loved Daggerfall and I can see a good and well thought out use of procedural generation in this game! I believe in you guys, it looks good!
Awesome! I'll be sure to save up a bit to donate to this
I've been interested in the project since your first anouncement with your "trailer" with the ork. I think you will be the very first kickstarter that I will ever support. Hope you the best of lucks and even more, the concept of wayward realms seems awesome and I deeply believe that if the vision and the proposals are fully completed could create a new standart for rpg. 100% hyped.
If you nail the core gameplay loop this Game could be a game I will play for years. You have my support. Godspeed OnceLost Games team! I wish you the best
This trailer gives me a feeling that I haven't had since I played Oblivion and from the sound of it that's exactly what they're going for. The fantasy, the freedom, the spirit of adventure. They have my backing.
Well our aim is Daggerfall, but close enough.
I can't wait for my adventure to begin in this wonderful looking new world you guys are making!
Spread the word, This needs Is as much publicity as possible. The more kickstarter donations will not only fund the team working on Wayward Relams. But it will also show how many people are eagerly waiting for the full release of the game :)
Im loving the Kickstarter rewards, I've gone in as a Duke, the idea to have my image as a portrait in the game is so cool.
I hope you guys get to realise your dream
Thank you, we truly appreciate it!
I am throwing my card at the screen but it is not sticking! Honestly, I will be buying it soon!
I’m so unbelievably excited.
Your team will have my support the second the kickstarter is opened.
I’ve told friends about this and they are hopeful of those old days where it wasn’t about just map markers… but exploring. Being in a world.
Good luck to the team.
rooting for you guys!! thank you for keeping the RPG's alive!
very excited to see the ongoing progress! this is the kind of passion project i'm glad to support
If this was some random indie team, I probably wouldn't be as excited. But considering we have a team of industry veterans here, I am SOOOO excited!
Excellent news, I was also thinking that an early access release with a fully-fleshed section of the world was the way to go. It will still be larger than most ES games released after Daggerfall...
This is such a huge moment! This wayward community is buzzing with the constant updates being released, there are so many people out there wanting to give something so that you all can continue making this grand rpg🙏 never have I anticipated a game as I do this one.
Man you can't imagine how much I'am waiting for this game.
I've been yearning for old-school RPG's for the last 15 years, Baldur's Gate 3 was breath of fresh air and now this. Day one pre order from me.
I have been letting this video play on loop for over a day now. Just doing my part to help out. All the best to the team, and I hope this project turns out as great as it seems!
i have been following this project since very very early days which i think was before the corona virus, or at its start. i have been asking a ton of questions, and im starting to think i must have been a true pain to you guys hahaha. i just wanted to write one more comment to say, that i cant wait for the game, not only as a player, not only for my pleasure, (and i think this represents all of us), but because i feel a great bond towards this. i had such a blast with daggerfall, its my favorite game. you guys give a feeling that is truly weird but beautiful. i dont feel that im watching a company make videos about its project on youtube. i feel like im following a group that ive known for, and i catch my self thinking that i hope this project makes them very happy and yet we are complete stangers. best of wishes. and as we say in my country, wish you all great health.
Much appreciated, and we never complain about all the questions. We are happy to answer what we can!
One of the few games that still manages to actually make me excited for it to release. I so hope this is a success and wish the team all the best!
Love the idea and concept. I for sure will support you in kickstarter
My excitement and imagination are boundless! I truly hope all of your imagination, creativity, and passion breathes life not only into the archipelago, but into the gaming world itself! Best of luck and I'll support best I can!
As a gamedev myself, I am very much looking forward to it! and I am going to support you
Will definitely be supporting because I've been wanting an RPG on the scale of Daggerfall since forever and with this being made by none other than the original creators it's a no-brainer
Looking forward to participating and supporting!
Your project will be the first one i will support on kickstarter. I have high hopes for this game and what you guys can create.
We appreciate it.
Looking forward to it. I'm betting this game will be funded, released in early access, developed further and fully released plus maybe gaining a 1 or 2 DLC:s before Elder Scrolls 6 comes out. Probably in better shape as well if I may say so :D
I see VR at 1:43, it's awesome, I'm sure it will be the best game in the history of video games!
Well it's pretty obvious what I'll be wanting for my forty-something birthday next month then. Best of luck to you all. Glad to be here for the ride. 👍
Been here since the beginning. So happy to see this. Congratulations to the entire team❤
Even if the game needs 5-6 years to develop it shouldn’t be rushed. If everything turns out right maybe people could be playing this for years
Awesome! I've been following you guys for awhile, so I'm excited to get a chance to finally play some of th game. I'll definitely back this too. Good luck!
The last 10 years of gaming has taught me not to get hype about games. This project has me so damn hype that I will contribute to this Kickstarter which I never do. God speed you mad lads.
I've never supported a Kickstarter before, but this is the first time that I wholeheartedly believe with every fiber of my being in what is being created here.
Awesome! As soon as your Kickstarter is launched, I will be throwing money at the screen. I can't wait to immerse myself in this world!
Most anticipated game in history.
You guys rock! Loving everything you've shared so far and excited to see it realized!
I love that you showed dev stuff. Quite rare nowadays to get a look at the polygons.
This looks phenomenal folks, definitely backing to get that early access build and dive in early!
These comments are so heartwarming! I miss having a great old rpg community like we had with daggerfall and even morrowind. Really missing that. Looking forward to catching up with you all and living the great stories we're creating in wayward realms. 😊
They are especially heartwarming, because they are positive on the project without trading that for toxicity wrt other games or studios.
I mean, hey, plenty of other RPG communities out there as well! Larian had certainly grown tremendously over the years, Obsidian still soldiers on, plenty of smaller, niché fandoms as well, from Disco Elysium to Age of Decadence and Geneforge.
I hope you guys can succeed, as sincerely as I can express. You represent a bastion of passion and exploration in game design. This project feels so different from other classic game devs who are coming together for spiritual reboots etc., because you guys pioneered a future style of game that has not been explored in great detail in nearly 20 years. It's not just another Fallout, another Wasteland, another Baldur's Gate. Best of luck and I will be donating.
Much appreciated!
Heh, the starter island reminds me of the PC Gamer Daggerfall demo that was on Betony. I'm so excited for this, I hope I get this job I'm waiting to hear back from so I can throw money at the KS.
Every piece of art and every video you all post gets me more excited for this project. Keep it coming!
this is getting exciting man didnt expect this project to move so fast :D looks already really beautiful
you have my support!
i want to see the genre reach the stars
I would love to QA test this game! I have done a lot of glitch hunting for Skyrim, and my UA-cam channel shows off the many findings of my community and I. I'm also in the middle of a no fast-travel Daggerfall playthrough. I love pushing games to their limits and this seems right up my alley!
Commenting for the algorithm because this project needs attention
Ted - what a legend!
Sharing this to all!
Taking notes for your early access strategy from the Larian playbook, I see. Good. Larian showed us all how early access is done.
This could be one of the best games of the next decade if they are able to do as they are planning… I’m going to get in on the kickstarter ASAP
Looking better each time you guys show it!
Absolutely chompin' at the bit to back this at a high tier.
I'm so excited, I can't wait to support you guys
1:33 Daggerfall dungeon layout jumpscare
Look out, it is right behind you!!! 😧
At least the floor levels look relatively flat. A simple top down map would probably be sufficient to navigate the dungeons comfortably. Unlike the crisscrossing ramps, pits and various vertical tilesets of Daggerfall, the 3d dungeon map is pretty painful to look at, at times.
It would honestly look pretty neat, to have a sort of paper map for the dungeons, that gets drawn, the further you explore them, and simply swap between the floor levels. Maybe with a system to add markers to highlight points of interest.
I don't normally buy early access games.I will this time! You deserve my money.
I still remember when you guys were first talking about doing this on indigo's live streams a few years ago. 🤘
I think this is going to be the first kickstarter i will donate to! I’m incredibly excited to play this game and have been following since near the beginning!!
I'm so excited for this game - I'll definitely be supporting the Kickstarter!
"The Wayward Realms is a first-of-its-kind Grand RPG." Isn't it technically the _second_ of its kind, and Daggerfall the first? lol But nah, jokes/semantics aside, this game honestly could be revolutionary -- and the more I see of it, the more confident I am of its success!
This is the only game I'm as excited as TES6 about.
May the Grand RPG genre be truly grand!
You guys are doing god's work - this kind of RPG is what I've been seeking, and wanting to make, for so, *so*, long.
This is gonna sound weird but I appreciate that the nude statues in the art are actually nude. The eunuch statues in every other game bug me
I'd hope that OnceLost doesn't shy away from the more depraved adult themes, that would be appropriate for a medieval fantasy setting. Take Game of Thrones for example, how lame would it be, without such themes?
congratulations to the whole team! I'm really excited about the project!
Cant wait! I would be shocked if a publisher doesnt pick this up
The first ever kick starter, I will be supporting.
💜
Oh, I can not wait! I'm so excited about this. This is the game I've always dreamed of. I've never supported a Kickstarter before but I will support this. I have no doubt that you guys will make good on everything you're promising.
We appreciate it, truly.
I can't wait!
