I sang with him when I was only a choral singer nearly twenty years ago when we did a Verdi Requiem and he was hired as the Bass soloist. Even though I was very young and dumb and had no idea about singing back then.....I knew he would be a star someday.
That tethered, velvety quality that he emits throughout his register THAT is the prize for a Baritone that is just O so difficult to develop if you don't have the natural timbre.
OMG!! What a BEAUTIFUL inspiration!! It's very hard to come across BARITONE/BASS singers in the spotlight..... and though I'm not a trained Opera singer, I ENJOY the sound of a GOOD VOICE...period.... HE IS PHENOMENAL!!
I am listening to this singer for the very FIRST TIME! An EXTREMELY rich, resonating and WELCOMING voice! However, to say it bluntly, HE MUST DO A LITTLE GOOD SOMETHING with AGAISNT that WEIGHT he is CARRYING! Una voce RICCA, RISONANTE e ACCOGLIENTE! Bravo Signor Owens! Buona fortuna per il futuro!
Sorry to burst your bubble, but you are very wrong. I have attended three of his masterclasses, and can say firsthand that his top is frighteningly strong. A tenor was struggling with the flower aria from Carmen, and Mr Owens demonstrated the entire aria, in key, with huge, blooming, unforced high top notes. He also demonstrated how to properly sing Tamino's aria, in full voice as well. You can choose to not believe me, but you've never had your chair shaken by Mr Owens' High A as I have
I would have thought he was white if I didn't see him. It amazes me in one way, and saddens me in another. He sings it so gracefully, but he sounds white. If I could just hear someone perform it this good and pick-up it sounds like they are black, I'd be sharing it round the world.
@@theEduEnthusiast I don't know how to answer this. But if I told you that I only recently found out that Lighthouse Family's singer is black, when I thought for years before that he was white (I think Lighthouse Family's singer sounds white), might this give some insight in what I'm trying to get across?
@@grahamspragg7494 To an extent. To clarify, is your wish for more singers to openly sing with the stereotypical accent of AAVE (colloquially known as ‘Ebonics’)?
@@theEduEnthusiast I had to watch a video on the subject of Ebonics just to understand what it was 😳. It was from a school called Lucy Laney, and I'm not sure it's enough of an example to answer the your question properly, but from the gist of it, I'd say that is not my wish. My wish is more of a biometric perspective, specifically, voice print. Another example, with a reversed outcome compared to the Lighthouse Family one: I heard an audio clip on the radio of a movie on that I had never seen. The audio clip was "I want the truth! 😲". I always thought that line was from Pulp Fiction, spoken by Samuel L. Jackson, but I found out eventually that the line was from A Few Good Men, bellowed by Tom Cruise. Until I saw the film clip for it, I always thought that the "I want the truth!" line was by someone black. This has not been an easy thing to bring up. I feared from the moment I made the original post that I could get criticised. Maybe I've been looking for a problem where there isn't one (Eric Owens), and found a problem (me) where I thought there wasn't one.

He has such an incredible voice. It was wonderful to be able to hear him up close.
complimenti per la pronuncia italiana!
Gorgeous. I want to sing opera
Do it then
Outstanding! Heard him for the first time tonight at the New York Live Met. Thanks for posting this.
THIS IS THE BEST RECORDING OF NON PIU ALDRAI! :D
I saw Das Rheingold last Saturday - fantastic! Absolutely amazing.
Eric Owens is magnificent
Marvelous Voice and personality!
bravo excellent rendition
Probably my favorite bass-baritone of all time
I LOVE Eric Owens! I hope he sings with the YTSO in Sydney!
Great voice
Read Alex Ross's bravissimo review of Owen's Wagnerian debut in the new Met production in 2010 of Das Rheingold.
Lovely!

Seducio Santini Pretty sure Luciano Pavarotti carried weight and still did fine. :)
Beautiful, bravissimo

COMPLIMENTI PER L'ITALIANO
BRAVO ERIC!!!!!!!
super!!
Effortless. Just stands there and makes it look so easy. Sometimes not seen in some singers.
Sehr schön!
Maraviosa
@GiampieroMagalli: (You almost paid him a compliment.) So, how does one have to appear to be construed as Italian?
ÇOK BAŞARILI..
He is good
MASTER CLASS!! End of story. Next?
Cherubino La Vittoria!!!!
@ThaSchwab yes
@ThaSchwab yep, it is me.
@ThaSchwab lol that is!
Who are the people sitting on the stage?

I think the pianist is Brad Moore.
@ThaSchwab I think so.

@@grahamspragg7494 Interesting- how does one “sound black” whilst singing a classical song - especially when it’s in the accent of a specific region?

Good on Owen despite his American accent.

@GiampieroMagalli: Yet another inadequate assessment...
Absolutely impressed by the voice and the rendition. If anything though, the accompaniament is rushed and missing some phrasing.
Well, well! An aristocrat. Why do sopranos get so-o-o much attention? Deep voices are so much better! Flawless diction too.
I love male voices so much!
Sopranos get more media attention, but bass baritones (and below) get laid more.
Neither is better than the other. There are beautiful voices across the entire spectrum.
@@monsieurboks Well I dunno about that. I'm a bass baritone and...
This clip has taught me what an unsupported voice with good placement sounds like. Paper and thin. You can almost hear how the voice is gonna disolve
