When I was a teen, my mom and I played Mario Kart every day. It was such a great bonding time. She passed away in 2003. Watching this made me tear up. She usually played Toad so I was rooting for Toad to win the game.

I will say that this is better than every mario kart before it, but it is such a strange look to have 2d sprites on an incredibly low poly track with this goofy music playing. It’s so bad it’s good
I've never played this game, but there's something about the neon faces blinking above a rainbow road in space that just speaks to me. Such a wonderous track.
I forgot how frustrating the rubber banding AI was like when I played this. If it weren’t for the unbalanced item box, there’s just no way to catch up.
When you somehow find a way to fall off the track, it is the most agonizing process to get back. I remember waiting at least 15 seconds before Lakitu came to get me
I'm a child of the 2000's who never played Mario 64 until I tried it out on an emulator back in like. 2012/2013ish? Which is why it's so weird for me that this track gives me a like, primal sense of nostalgia. The music combined with the visuals and the night time setting and, for some odd reason, *especially* those fireworks, makes me feel incredibly nostalgic. Is this what anemoia feels like?
You can feel nostalgia from anything that was apart of your childhood regardless if it was made before you were born. I played this on the Wii as a kid but still feel nostalgic about the game cus I played it as a kid, even though I was born in the 2000s
This is the first time I come watch the OG N64 Rainbow Road. And wow this feels so different compared to modern types. Nothing but guardrails that keep you corraled in against your opponents... A very different type of difficulty

Best racing ever, no contest, no online multiplayer, you had to play with your friends next to you on the ground or the couch. The real ones know that leap-of-faith shortcut at the beginning, put you in first for the rest of the race for sure.
This and Ocarina of Time. I would think about the other game while playing one and just be enamored the places and vibes you could experience. The colorful excitement of Rainbow Road or the stillness of Lon Lon Ranch. My family made a big move away from the hometown and the only friends I knew, but that’s when the n64 came out. It was truly a new world for all of us. I miss playing battle mode with my siblings. I always lost but that means I could be the little bomb driving around!
@@user-db3xu1hw7r it's insane the amount of people in this comment section that think this track had no railings. It's probably a rainbow road infamous for being extremely long, fully covered in railings, having only extremely wide turns, and long straights where you don't do anything else aside from pressing the accelerate button.
I used to have this game on my Nintendo 64 and out of all the maps this one was my favorite because it was the most intriguing and fascinating one out of them all. Because it made me think, this is not an ordinary mario map by far, hell I never seen a map like this in other mario games except for Galaxy. But not just that, I always got a feeling that this map was something you would see in an 80s Animated TV series, like thundercats or something and I also loved the fact that you are literally in Space driving a go kart on a road made on rainbows or some strange material that appears to be rainbows. Me n my sister always talked about How in the fuck can these guys even drive in space with no spacesuits, where do they get their oxygen from and how in the fuck did they even get to this weird road in the middle of space. I always theorized that mario worlds was all planets that Mario visited and he traveled to every one of them by Portals or Stargates inside the pipes. But theres no pipes in this map so it really makes me wonder and always had since I was a kid playing this, how did they get there? I always thought they had to have used spaceships of some kind! Does this mean that bowser n his army travels through space to get to these worlds? Does that mean in this universe, its theoretically possible to create portals to different Dimensions and universes? Like Sonic the hedgehog universe or Kirby? Or Pokemon universes? Because it has to be possible in order for Smash Bros to be a thing. But anyways, this game n map brings back memories.
as a kid this track made me diszy as fuck but very happy at the same time i felt like it was a dream when i played this now it kinda is just a dream of a game i played a small child a long long time ago
