Those question marks always created a spooky sense of mystery for this track. Like not only was it a confusing tangle of curves and paths, but you also never knew where in the race you were. It was a bit unnerving, even uncanny.
I just Came here after playing this course on Mario kart eight deluxe on the switch and it amazes me how the 64 version still kinda holds up to this day!
The various different types of roads, as well as the fact that you have to be careful not to fall of them, definitely makes this one of more entertaining and enjoyable racetracks, in the entire game
If there’s one thing I like about this version of Yoshi’s valley over mk8’s, it’s not knowing what place everyone is. Because of how many paths there are for you to take, it would be hard to determine if you are ahead or behind. (Okay, well there is the mini map, but why would you take your eyes off the road to look at it?) I mean I understand that the WiiU is stronger than the N64, but the mystery of who’s in first place made it more unique in my opinion.
The reason why the "mystery" thing in this course even exists is probably to prevent bugs/glitches. The MK8 version didn't seem to have that kind of problem.
@@Mr.Face222 it would take a few calculations to find every racer’s pos but I imagine the limited hardware of the 64 made it difficult considering all that’s going on (music, polygon rendering, texture mapping, etc). It probably would make for a mess on the leaderboard.
I'm guessing, based on the fact that Nintendo evidently didn't bother, that MK64 must track progress using a simple "circle around a focal point" method. I say this because...yeah, look at that map and try placing a good focal point for it.
It's the controls and the physics of the game that make it "harder" and not the courses themselves imo. This game has ridiculously slidy controls and the most other Mario Kart games don't suffer through that.
Several courses in this game share the same music. Mario Kart games in the past have done that while Mario Kart 8 is the only Mario Kart game where each original course have their own music themes.
@@Mr.Face222Until the Booster Course Pass, which brought back several tracks that use the same music, like DS Waluigi Pinball returned, and shares the same music as DS Wario Stadium like in the original Mario Kart DS
The game probably does know - it wouldn't be very hard for the code to determine the positions (translate points on each path to a percentage or alike) + the minimap highlights the person in first anyway. So they probably excluded it to add mystery or to prevent glitches
@@Mr.Death101 what a horrible thing to say. life isn’t a competition. saying that someone should kill themselves just because they aren’t “strong” is horrible. you don’t have to be the best at everything. that’s how life is. people have gone to prison and etc for saying that online so watch your tongue.
If you fall on this track, it takes 5 million years before you get picked up again lol

64 likes? Coincidence? I think not!
Talk about an uncanny valley!

So did I 🤩🤩🤩
Did you know that you can tell who's in first place on this track by using the map
no, uhhhh, yes.
Another way to tell who’s in first place is to see who’s flashing in a rainbow of colors.
I thought u can only do that with 1 player

What? Lol it takes .5 seconds too check what place you're in.
To be fair, you can easily look at the map to see what place you are in 💀!!!

The place determiner in MK64 when this track comes up: 'Nup, I'm not doin this, I'm going on break.'
The reason was specified in the game manual, it was not possible due to the technical limitations of nintendo 64.
Maybe I was just bad but dude this track was hell to race on lol
You took the hardest route haha

I loved using the star power boost to smack the big Yoshi egg like it was a volleyball.

So what, this was a master class in how not to drive this track?
I think Yoshi took the Narrow Route on all 3 laps.
C’était tellement cool ne pas savoir la position il suffisait de regarder la carte pour en avoir une idée
I don't understand why this track and moo moo farm have the same music
It's not something uncommon on Mario Kart games. Each MK game has a few tracks that share the same soundtrack.
Probably because they’re both in the country/rural areas, and I guess this is near Moo Moo Farm.
Several courses in this game share the same music. Mario Kart games in the past have done that while Mario Kart 8 is the only Mario Kart game where each original course have their own music themes.

Why does it take 57 years to get back on to the N64 version of Yoshi valley???
Why does nobody know why the rankings aren’t showing up?
I believe it’s trying to simulate reception in a valley as it’s usually pretty poor.
If the game doesn't know on wich place you are, then how does it know what items should give to you? And how the blue shell knows who is in first?

Lol there are so many branching paths even the GAME can'ttell the cpu's places
