    have you ever thought about taking a rubber band and wrapping around both ends the level pressing it tight to the bottom of the focus knob that way you can leave it on there and adjust it accordingly just my two cents awesome video

    Great instruction Sam. I called defensive edge to see if they could make me the simple tool that you used last year! This seems like a nice kit.

    If you're just using rings on a Savage, no rail, you can pull the bolt and place the level on the flat that is behind the rear of the action, ahead of the safety. At least most modern Savage actions I've seen have a flat there big enough for a small bubble level.

    Thanks for the video! Mine came in today and all three agree with each other. The wheeler set I have had to be corrected with painter's tape. The rifle I used a plumb line agrees with these levels. Looks like a good place to start before a tall target test. Great product for the price.

    Why would I want my scope level with axis of the bore.. I find levelling a scope for your shoulder is far more comfortable ? Obviously I am missing something., tell me more

    Sam, quick question: could you use two rubber bands with each band wrapped around the scope leveling tool and one of the side turrets to hold the tool in place while you set the level? It might be easier this way because the bands would keep the level attached to the bottom of the scope turret while freeing up both hands to make adjustments.

      Maybe Defensive Edge needs to embed magnet(s) or magnetize level #2 so that it easily attaches to the bottom flat on the scope turret. Have to be careful that magnet not to strong or it may try to adhere to the rail it the turret bottom and rail are close.

    Thanks I wish I would’ve spent my $50 on this instead of my bore sighted . Maybe some time you could explain the angle indicator a little more

    • @ecleveland1
      @ecleveland1 5 років тому

      I recommend getting some good precision shooting books to help explain shooting at angles up and down. Some good books are Precision Long Range Shooting and Hunting, The Military and Police Sniper: Advanced Precision Shooting for Combat and Law Enforcement by Mike Lau. Understanding all the aspects of long-range shooting and the math formulas behind it takes a little bit of reading. Squeezing the trigger is the easy part, knowing how to read the wind and everything that will affect the bullet's path is the hard part.

    How far away from the bench or muzzle do you hang your plumb line? Have you found any certain distance to be superior to any other?

    • @PanhandlePrecision
      @PanhandlePrecision  5 років тому +1

      ecleveland1 I have two attachment points on my target backer. I can either hang the line and sight on it directly, or attach a grid target/tall target to the backer, and plumb it to the line. I usually check it at 100 yards while testing turret tracking. I don’t think distance matters, though. Plumb is plumb.

    Sam, I REALLY, REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR CHANNEL. I have learned so much from your videos and I’m eternally grateful. My question is wouldn’t u want to align your scope reticle, bore and bubble level with a plumb line? Am I Missing something? It makes no sense that I would do all that work mounting my optic first then use a plum line only to discover my reticle is canted in relation to the bore. I would really like to know your thoughts as my biggest challenge is properly mounting an optic so that the reticle is exactly level to the bore. This makes SUCH A DIFFERENCE FOR LONG RANGE SHOOTING. UR CHANNEL IS AN INCREDIBLE LEARNING TOOL. ONE OFMTHE BEST FOR SURE.....Doc David 👍🏻🇺🇸

    Hi Sam
    I am new to Precision reloading. I have Tekka tac1 in 6.5 creedmoor and have about 700 rounds thru it. I just checked my setting depth with the same Bullet that l used when the rifle was new l have lost 16 thousands of barrel is that about normal . They are running 2650 to 2700 FPS.
    THANK YOU

    Have you layed all three levels down side by side to see if they read the same. Finding an accurate level these days is hard to do.

    It doesn’t matter if the turret is aligned with the axis of the bore. The bore is round so this is irrelevant. The crucial part in all this is, the turret must be perpendicular to where the scope mounts to the gun. This is the top machined surface or the dovetail of the gun.

    Does anyone know how thick the extension is on #2? I'm trying to level a 1" scope using low Warne scope rings and the gap between the rail and the scope are too narrow for the tools I have tried thus far.

    I'm having an impossible time finding some good levels. The plastic wheeler ones were trash, the plastic housing the level are in is uneven.

    • @Majja13

      Use the top of the ring halves instead. If they are vertical split rings you are screwed.

  • @C_Squared

    So why not just use a plumb bob to mount the scope? Who cares about the turrets all that matters is that the reticle is level to the fall of gravity. I would also HIGHLY recommend mounting the optic off the rifle using a tool like the badger dead level. Not that this is wrong, but it could be a lot faster and easier with just a plumb bob.

    • @PanhandlePrecision
      @PanhandlePrecision  5 років тому +2

      Well, nobody's stopping you. As far as it being easier to use a plumb line, I disagree. I have a permanent fixture for a plumb line in my backyard, and still find using levels easier and faster.

    • @C_Squared
      @C_Squared 5 років тому +1

      Panhandle Precision million ways to skin a cat. Wasn’t saying your way is wrong. But I will say that a level turret is nowhere as important as a level reticle. YMMV. But in the marines we would level the reticle and not the turrets (in a good scope they should be perfect any way) with great success.
