Great work on the paint Johnny, sills look much better. As I've said before I think the car looks much better on 17 inch wheels but i understand sticking to stock is the way to go for most folk on older cars. I'd buck the trend.
@@PB200559 I actually agree from a personal standpoint point. If I was keeping this one, I’d dial the coil over ride height in, space the RS7’s out a few mm and call it perfection, however the real value in this one is its originality and as a sale car, I need to play to what dictates the top values
Perfect smart repair paint job. Another Johnny gets cash car getting some love and looking as good as it does, just goes to show the effort is well worth it. I agree loosing the black painted sills was the way to go. Looking forward to seeing the next episode when it’s back on all four wheels to see how much better it sits.
@@rstezza Sure, it’s absolutely no different to spraying with a gun, just on a smaller scale. I use professionally made base paint (made to manufacture’s paint code by a local paint shop), mixed 1:1 with high gloss thinners and then applied in sympathetically weighted coats until the correct coverage / blend is achieved 👍
Thats looking great! Beautiful attentive work as always, bringing it back to its best. So glad you decided to keep this one standard too. Also ..will there be a feature on that lovely Rover 75 in the background?
Looks so much better now Johnny after the smart repairs. Also much prefer the seals in being back in the original paint colour too. Thanks for the vlog 👍🏻
Ah, I was a bit late commenting on the last video. The car and paint do look great, but the black line along the bottom of the sill is how it was originally from factory/showroom spec--it wasn't body coloured past the lower line. Not that it matters since the rust needed doing and it's not exactly hard for the new owner to paint it on if they were particularly fussed about it.
@@markfizz2012 Thanks Fizz. I think this will represent a good investment for someone. Potentially a good first step into the classic Ford market for someone!
Sehr gute Arbeit, dafür das du es in deiner Garage gemacht hast. 💪 ich lackiere meißt vor der haustür ( sieht man dann auch ) aber ist ok für Straßenlackierung . Grüße aus Deutschland
@JohnnyGetsCash I wanted to buy one of these exact models (130bhp si), but all the ones I found were rusty dogs or had a dodgy past. The only good one I found turned out to be in "my mates" name on the V5, even though the guy had it for 4 years! I gave up in the end. 🫣
@@SA-zoom1 Sorry to hear you had trouble finding a suitable example. Good ones are certainly few and far between. If you are still in the market for a good one, this one will be for sale as soon as the suspension is finished and the new cam belt is fitted (hopefully next episode). If you’d like any more info on the car my email address is johnny@johnnygetscash.com 👍
Funnily enough in this scenario the lift would’ve made the job more tricky. Having the lift arms in the correct place would mean I’d be unable to lay down longer, consistent gun strokes, so having the car on the floor and fully accessible was the way to go (although it does call for some awkward body positioning!)
I think that black paint line at the bottom of the sills is there to take your eye off the fact that the sills are thicker/deeper than normal (because convertible/ structural rigidity) ? As such, I sort of preferred it. Anyway, good call on painting the top section of front bumper entirely. 👍👍
This is potentially the case however given the few minor rust spots on the lower portion of the sills, they certainly needed addressing and re-painting. For me Zinc yellow throughout was the way to go, however if someone ever wanted to visually lose the bottom of the sills and re-paint it black, this would be very easy to do (and would be going over a totally solid and rust free sill!)
Thank you. Smart repairs can be tricky but like all jobs, the only way to get the hang of it is to simply have a go and learn from your own mistakes (in my opinion) 👍
air brush is a great idea! Im going to rob that idea off you lol Do you use the 0.5mm needle? and what do you mix in with the paint? You use thinner? How much?
Hey johnny, class video! I was hoping to paint my bumper of my van to colour match. I only have a 100L compressor think it’s 14.6cfm 3hp , do you think it would be suitable to get a nice finish or would i need something better in your opinion?
Great smart repair. I’ve got a yellow Porsche Boxster and my front bumper is also a different shade to the rest of the car. I thought it was just a poor repaint spray but maybe like you say after 9 years it fades differently on plastic but then why on your and mine the rear bumper is pretty much the same shade of yellow, a bit odd?
Sometimes it's not the case and the rear bumper will be just as bad as the front. In the case of this car i can only assume that whilst it lived in a garage, the front bumper was more prone to sunlight exposure than the rear (?). Yellow paint is always tricky!
It varies depending on the repair but for the smart repairs here, which were done with an airbrush, I use the airbrush to apply the clearcoat as well. It’s simply a case of doing a wider blend with the clear vs the size of the colour blend 👍
Good to see your shepherd helping make the repairs Johnny.

@JohnnyGetsCash I would love this car for a fair price. But already have 4 cars and it might be bad for my health if the missus has anything to say 😂

The Escort is looking good. Happy to it go back to standard suspension and wheels. The 17" with coilovers looked too 2003 boyracer to me 😉

Regarding suspension and wheels though - maybe the perfect combination is standard suspension with the bigger wheels … 🤔🤔
I think this one needs to stay as it would’ve been upon leaving the showroom in ‘93. That’s bound to be where the value is!
