I gave birth in Japan and they have a completely different way of doing things. After birth they clamp and cut the cord. They also cut and give you an extra piece in a box to keep as a symbol of connection that you had with your baby when you were pregnant. Also, in Japan they said there was no problem to have a bath and submerge the cord. They actually gave him his first bath at the hospital and did this to my shock! But that’s the custom here. His umbilical cord ended up falling off in the bath about two weeks later. It’s so interesting seeing the differences in health recommendations between different countries.
In south africa it's the same. They bath the baby in full water everyday whilst in hospital and advise you to do same. They also clamp the cord but don't give you a piece. They also advise you to clean with surgical spirits. I done all this with my kids but now with my grandchild I've been watching videos to remind me what to do. I'm so confused lol
Same in Brazil
I’m giving birth in Tokyo in a few weeks… I had no idea! Apparently no baths for me though in the early days of postpartum. Not sure why, since the US seems to recommend sitz baths for episiotomy recovery.
The US does it incorrectly. Rest of the world has better Healthcare.
I’m Colombian and I hate it because I’m always confused on what I should or shouldn’t do to take care of me after birth and the baby 😭
My baby's cord fell off after theee days, and I didn't have to use medication. It was 10cm and in the beggining we had to take care not to get it dirty with anything. We did a late clamping and I feel this made it dry much faster. Also what we did was staying as much as we could without clothes, so a lot of air was there. I didn't bath her, only with a cloth and warm dandelion tea 💕it's great for any iritations, it calms the skin the best. No oils, no soaps for us in the first weeks of life
how would you use the warm dandelion tea?
So happy that I used to wacth your pregnancy video, and now I am watching your newborn video 😘😘 Thank you so much
Your videos helps me so much especially now with covid, all of our maternity classes in Ottawa, Ontario is now cancelled... My baby is due in about 7 weeks and your videos has helped me SO MUCH!
Keep getting distracted by how gorgeous your hair looks.
Very informative video.
SAME! I thought I was the only one lol
And papa’s. :)
Thank you yes
I live in ottawa and my GP cannot taken her as a new patient and there’s no paediatrician for her. I found some blood in her bellybutton, and I don’t know what to do. I have a 2 years old so I cannot do the 7 hour wait at our hospital..I’m glad I found your channel
I’m due any day now with my first child. Thank you for this video!
Hope it went well! Good luck!
Very helpful information
My baby's umplical stump is still there looking red .he is 3 month now and he do not have the infection sign and symptoms you mentioned .the doctor diagnosed him infection (runing blood test )and gave him a medicine called cephalaxine but no improvement .can u help me with this?
“...because you got mustard in their hair while you were eating...” 😂 I love it
That made me laugh too 😆
Can you make a video for moms after birth? What to look for? How to help us heal. Please and Thank you! ❤🥰
It's really informatative for students
Is that a tapestry or your wallpaper, I absolutely LOVE it!!!
Sweet voice and good information mam. Keep it up.👍👍👍
Hello and thank you so much for sharing your passion with all of us. I watched your videos too help prepare for labor & birth. I LOVE the world 🌎 map behind your bed. Would you mind sharing where you got it?? Thank you ❤️
What are the differences with using umbilical ties or rings versus the clamp as far as aftercare goes?
My baby's umbilical cord fell off after three days.. Because here in South Africa we bath a bby after it is born. N we submerge them in water and clean it with surgical spirit and a cotton wool. By doing its fall off so quickly.
Very interesting. So then it's OK to submerge in water at 11 days old and dry it thoroughly with alcohol then??
I'm from South Africa Cape town and I have never heard or seen any woman that I know who submerged their newborn in water and cleaned it like that 🙁 the baby should not go under any water until 2 or maybe 3 weeks you only suppose to wipe the baby with a warm wash cloth and clean the umbilical cord with the surgical spirits after the 1st week and a half you can lighty wash baby with water and Bennett aquas cream but you don't submerge the baby their skin is still very fragile and the umbilical cord is still raw and can get infected
@@jaderiley6699 I'm also from SA, I have a friend who gave birth at Medi-Clinic and the nurses bathed the baby before they left the hospital, baby was born 2022. I gave birth at a public hospital and they didn't wash the baby. It depends where you give birth.
Hi I gave birth in Costa Rica, I was all prepared for a home birth but it didn’t go as expected. We birthed in the hospital and they cut the cord very close it didn’t even have a peg, like I would have expected to see? It seems ok 👌 has a little smell is this normal?
Why did you put a link with where ti buy cotton balls if you said not to use it in this video? 😒
What do you suggest we use to clean it after? My son is 4 months and it is really dark still in his belly button. My mom says hydrogen peroxide but I feel that is too strong??
I've only ever heard to out alcohol on it. To help dry
I have a newborn her belly button fell of when she was 8 days old i see the doctor she told me i could give her bath now, but its still not close how long it going to take to close cause she’s crying al the time when i press on her belly button she stop crying i really don’t know what to do Any Advice please should i call the doctor?
I found another video that really gets to the points already cause this one taking forever. Baby is cry sorry but the video have more views too
It isn’t easy to take care of a newborn baby’s umbilical cord these days. It becomes a bellybutton after his/her umbilical cord is cut and falls off in 1-3 weeks after birth. Please note that I’m not pregnant with triplets at the moment.
My baby is a month and 2 weeks old but belly button still has foul smell what should I do?
Pediatrician. Immediately.
You've clearly never seen Kyle XY
Should i or shouldnt i use the %70 alcohol swab to clean it or jsut water

Hi how is ur baby now ?? Bc I’m going thru that rn lol don’t know if I’m overreacting but his umbilical cord hasn’t fell of and it’s been 12 days
@@rechellesapeymai566 it finally fell off when he was 7 weeks
@@rechellesapeymai566 his pediatrician recommended we use a powder from dischem (graze and wound healing powder) it worked so well
@@rechellesapeymai566 how long did it take afterwards?
Will submerging the cord in water cause infection?
