    I have access in a basement below the floor level to install the rough in plumbing, so it makes a lot of sense to me to caulk & screw on the drain assembly, along with an adequate length of 2” straight pipe already glued to the installed drain assembly, THEN mount the shower base into the adhesive. This way, I don’t have to worry about trying to glue the straight down pipe leading to a P-trap at the floor level- the down tube is already glued to the installed drain assembly.

    They say to check for plumb and square but then don't tell you what to do if it's not plumb and square. Also, it would have been helpful if they would have included a chapter on how to lay the mortar base instead of just saying "if it's not level, lay a mortar base!" -- not very helpful for DIYers, especially since most people aren't going to have a perfectly level subfloor.

    Great video, but one major issue. The base itself is warped! I have now purchased three of these, trying to get a good one. In every case, the black support structure is improperly glued to the white acrylic base, with gaps and bends. Floor is perfectly level, base itself is not. I am now trying to apply adhesive, then placing 5 five gallons buckets if water inside base to hold flat while adhesive dries! Wish me luck.

    The instructions for the Delta 500 says not to use plumbers putty on the drain,, it also says silicone and acrylic caulk will NOT adhere to the base,,, so WHAT do you use to in place of plumbers putty to seal the drain to the base ??

      Hello Nick! Thank you for contacting Delta Faucet Company and we are happy to help. Silicone or an advanced polymer sealant is your best choice for sealing the drain flange. With any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us again. -Carrie

      Because their floor was already level, they just used an adhesive to stick it to the floor. If the floor wasn't level, they said to use a mortar base to sink it into making it level at that time.

    • @markfradl
      @markfradl 11 місяців тому

      @@AKJammer1 Except the instructions included don't say to sink it in, it says make a level mortar base, let it dry, then put adhesive on top of that. So tired of these DIY products that make you chase down details instructions from a bunch of different sources.

    Why did you leave out so much video showing how you did stuff such as putting the base in the opening. All of a sudden the base is in and you are securing the base. The whole video is like this. Lots of talk but did not show complete steps.

      @@markfradl yeah, I use the amp max stuff they sell at home Depot. Some kind of hybrid. The drain kit says silicone even though delta doesn't want you to use it on their products. It can be confusing for people doing this themselves.

    • @markfradl
      @markfradl 11 місяців тому

      @@therustydrummer995 That's the frustrating thing, even if you try to follow the manufacturers guidlines sometimes you have no idea hat those guidelines are. I will say, though, I called Delta and got right through. She was very helpful - use Dap Amp for the drain, and use Loctite or Liquid Nails tub surround for the adhesive.

      you are right. other than making sure the floor is level and the walls are plumb, the hardest part is making sure the drain goes in right. I think Delta doesn't want to get into the liability of telling people how to do the drain so they are relying on people hunting down the drain installation instructions from other places (DIY'ers on UA-cam, Oatey, etc). Also there are different techniques if you are installing on subfloor with an accessible basement, or installing on slab. Making a mistake with the drain and you have problems.

  • @markfradl
    @markfradl 11 місяців тому

    "Don't use plumber's putty" -- but they don't tell you what you should use. I am so tired of half-useless installation videos - now i have to hunt through UA-cam to find something more useful

      There's a commercial roofing drain caulk that's better than any silicone caulk on the market. It's called 'Water Mastic '. We use it on the drains. We apply it between the drain ring and drain bowl rim. Compression keeps the water Mastic from curing and lasts for 10 to 15 years.
