I remember the ads for the Fitzpatrick in the mid 1970's, they were a real nice-looking engine that seemed more like a custom than a mass produced engine. If I remember correctly, they were a bit more expensive than the Japanese or Italian engines that were popular along with the K&B and Fox engines produced here. That APC 11X8 is heavier than the wood prop Lee most likely used and he probably put some time on the engine before testing. Another engine of the time was the Kraft .61, it seemed to run well, the pilot for the full size Super Fli had one on the Ugly Stik he was flying. MECOA bought the design, I don't know if any are in stock.
Had never heard of a Fitzpatrick engine. Love the look (must be the muffler) and love the sound as well... Especially at low speed. Sounds great from top to bottom honestly.
I've never heard of a Fitzpatrick engine. That is an Awesome Run. The Throttle response is amazing! Thanks for Showing Us. Thanks to your Bud in Tennessee. Can't wait to see more of it.
I am old enough to remember the ads they ran for these engines. They were in Model Airplane News or RCM, or maybe both, too long ago to remember. Very interesting design with the integrated carb (no air leaks for sure) and also the strange looking muffler, which, like you said earlier, could also be some kind of a mini (tuned) pipe? As for not reaching 12k rpm, please keep in mind that Mr. Lee used Zinger wood props which are very different to the APC you are using. The APC is aerodynamically far superior, IMHO. Also, possibly you could try to slowly lean it out a little more until your reach top rpm just before the rpm drop. In case of doing this while filming, setting the needle valve while holding the tach to the camera and also keeping the engine/prop view clear for the camera - that might get complicated... Anyway thank you so much for this video, I really like your channel.
Interesting review, I remember the adds for that engine in the old RCM rag. I read the linked Clarence Lee review and he achieved 12k rpm with an 11x8 prop, not the 12x8. The 12x8 got about the same speed as you did.
I own 2 Fitzpatrick 61s I feel they were a well made engine of average power and reliability I don’t use either of them anymore because my ST S61Ks run much better and stronger. Thanks for the video and no I won’t sell them
Hi David! Never heard neither before! quite weird engine for me ! The carb seems a little like an "ancestor" one, not as sophisticated as an OS or even Super Tiger. The crankcase is very similar to a very old OS with thick front part including the front bearings. But quite interesting anyway ! You're lucky to enjoy such beautiful day at your place in Wisconsin! Hello David, if you are planning to do a second run of this engine try to use an 11-7 or an 12-6 to compare with others 61’s…. Thanks…! Great run also!
I never get the RPM reading that others claim with my engines. Part of the reason may be that I am 1,000 feet above sea level, or my engines are worn-out. That is a sweet engine and pipe.
Fantastic sound and engine!!! I’ve never heard one before; it runs really well. Many thanks for your video from Italy 👋🏻😊

Nice video and nice well tuned engine. Thank you Dave for your efforts.😊
The engine runs very well. The video is great.
Runs excellent. Looks like a very robust engine in awesome condition. Looking forward to a look inside video.
beautiful motor. runs great. never owned one of them. wish i did.
Sounds great with that muffler! WOW starts nice too!!!
Whoa, that exhaust note is awesome! Very nice!
That has a great tuned pipe sounding idle..love it when they sit there and burble away.
Very cool and unique engine - runs excellent
Watched the 2nd video so has to watch this one too

Very nice. This engine is definitely a fuel guzzler. 10.8K on an 11x8 isn't too bad at all.
