- Did you miss me? I thought I might as well throw in my two cents about the new teaser for Sonic Team's next game for 2022 (Sonic Rangers/Frontiers?), and why it makes me very, very nervous.

I wanna talk about the Sonic stuff some other time, but dude, it's so nice hearing your voice again.
I watched your stuff for a long ass time and I was fine with you quitting cuz you gave me plenty of stuff to think about with Sonic.

Yeah, I do wish the teaser showed more, but I also feel as though they weren't ready to show anything yet, but because they knew people really wanted to know what was next for Sonic, they decided to throw something together just to give us an idea on what the game is kinda like. As for it being open-world (probably), I think it totally depends on what exactly they mean by "open world", cause it seems like everyone has their own definition of it. Will it be a Rockstar/Ass Creed style open world, or will it be a Odyssey style open world? It's hard to say right now, but this game being good or not can depend on which style of open world they go for. Either way, I can't wait to see more. New game hype season is always interesting and fun for Sonic, even if the game turns out to be bad.

I still don't understand why SEGA don't have Marza animate the in-game cutscenes for Sonic games, it can't be a logistical issue if both them and Sonic Team are based in tokyo.

Eh, im in the mindset of as long as they could make it work/enjoyable and the creativity is there.
If I had to make a guess going off of the 4chan leaks and the Sonic Team games of the last decade, I'd say that the "open-world" will be the supplementary "gimmick" of this game that exists to pad out gameplay between the boost stages to make the game longer. I just hope that the game is fresh and fun to play.

I'm definitely a bit mixed about it to, but I think for a different reason. While I am worried if Sonic Team can pull it off or not, I'm just not the biggest fan of open world games. I like to play some of them, but they are not my go to games to play. Even if Sonic Team somehow nails it, I'm not sure I want that to be THE thing Sonic does for who knows how many years. I think one of the things people like about Sonic is going through levels as fast and as cool as you can and while you can technically do that in open world games it's not really the same thing. I'm personally hoping it's like Odyssey where there are multiple different levels that are bigger and more open than normal Sonic levels, but no where near as big as Breath of the Wild. I think that's something Sonic Team is more likely to handle and fit's Sonic's gameplay style a bit more.
One thing: The Sonic Movie is amazing, I'll fight you on that hill (loljk)

Edit: And yeah, I've kind of been against the idea of an open world Sonic game for a while.
Not because it can't work.
But it feels like everyone is just trying to chase a trend of the game industry, without much else thought into the best way of adapting Sonic's 'Action Stage' formula naturally into it.
Admittedly SA1's Adventure fields are the closest to getting 'Open World Sonic' right in my eyes, you could literally expand off of that.
I'm just hoping they're not chasing breath of the wild mindlessly.

About the teaser, I think the Mania reveal trailer is the perfect way to reveal a game, still one of my favorite trailers.
As for open-world, I feel them taking a risky move is better than them playing it safe again, who knows, only time will tell.
The thing is they presented this TEASER in a small livestream, showing a full on detailed trailer with the gameplay of their new game in an event that not everyone from the game community was watching would not be the smartest idea, E3 is coming soon, so they showed this teaser to build hype and they will show more of the project later in a big event

As much as I love the Adventure games, they're not going back. I guess I'm an idiot for enjoying some aspects of 06. Not everyone will want the same thing, and I'd like to see an open world game. Hell...at least it's something different. Not only that but, no one knows if these "leaks" are 100% real or not.

I for one would love Open World. The last Open Worlds we've seen of Sonic were long ago. And I feel like an open world would be more interesting and explore the lore much better than boost would. I respect your opinion though. :3

Sonic Team is NOT inexperienced with open world. Phantasy Star Online 2 is also made by Sonic Team, including New Genesis.
They did develop the first PSO, but a different set of Sega employees are responsible for PSO2, I believe. You do bring up a good point though. Perhaps it's not as foreign of a genre to them as I've made it out to be.

Nice to see you back, dude. You seem to have the same thoughts that I have. I don’t think Sonic Team is ready for a BoTW style open world game. Mario Odyssey/Adventure would be a good establishing point.
(Also no you are not alone. I despise the Sonic live action movie. Hopefully they fix stuff in the sequel.)
I’m mostly sceptical about this game I mean it seems like this is going to be some sort of open world sonic game which is something that we haven’t seen ever well if you don’t sonic x-treme but then again that game was never released I’m mostly cautious about this game because I don’t want this to end up like sonic forces

The issue with the dmc reference is this cannot be applied to sonic fans. meta era fans exist, forces fans exist, 06 fans and dark ages fans exist. We all have different vissions for what we want sonic to be so this is not a good video to make good points and justify claims. Not all sonic fans want another adventure game. Not all fans love chaos. Not everyone hates wisps. some want an open world game as sonic feels like a glove for it. Sonic's fanbase is the most split a fanbase can be.

Just some facts:
Sonic runners - mobile runner game - started development in 2013 near slw release. Release date - 2015
Forces started development in 2014 - and fully charged after runners launch. Release - end of 2017.
And then this game, open world sonic game, that in development while pandemics outside and every dev works at home - and if last game took 4 years to make - why can anyone be sure that this time they'll make it right?
They spent those 3 of 4 years mostly working on the development of the Hedgehog engine 2.
Honestly I want to see it to believe it, but keep expectations low.

My poor kind friend. Look at HE2.0 and tell me pls what it took 2 years to make, what Hashimoto didn't make in 2007 for 1,5 years. Like if you do it, you'll tell me there's improved lighting and reflections, but is that what 2 years was ?
@@Mazgid The Hedgehog engine 2 doesn't look all that impressive, especially since there's mods in Sonic generations, sunset heights and green hill that make the stages and lighting look better, making the hedgehog engine 2 pretty pointless to make.
Yep the entire 2-3 years was making that lightning engine and reused the lost world's physics engine for the game it self.

No offense to people in sonic team, that actually worked on it, but autorunners not supposed to made for 3 years, and game engines are getting improvement by the one team, while other is making pre-production. I just feel like ST for Sega is like bloodsuckers, but they can't let Sonic go, and give annual salary for doing minimal.

I don't want open world with sonic either. I'm sick of everything trying to be open world nowadays overall. Much more when the design doesn't match up with the character/franchise like one with super speed and level design accentuating that as their trademark.

>Give Knuckles a mix of both the treasure hunting stages (Super Emeralds collecting) and action platforming stages where you get to the end, unique bosses/levels for Knux are a must

>Make Blaze from an alternate dimension again, give her fast action stages like Sonic

>Introduce character fusion into the series with Shadic (Sonic and Shadow) fighting the final boss, we have Super Saiyan Sonic and the 7 Dragon Ball Emeralds so this really isnt far-fetched

the sonic movie was a big MEH for me. to the point that Sonic OVA was a lot more enjoyable then that thing. snippet for the 2022 reveal did absolutely NOTHING for me. I'm not a fan from Open world games to begin with. played Tales of Zesteria, Final fantasy 15, Xuan Yuan 7 as games of that genre. Aside from Zesteria which was bland af. I gave up on all the others. Sonic central as a whole. gave me absolutely nothing to be excited for. sure they were supposed to give the main focus on Sonic Prime news but even that fell flat. I have no faith in Sonic team anymore. I pray that Pontac was only mentioned as writer because of how heavily it focused on Colours content. if he is truly still in charge of writing. I fear it would doom the future sonic games. Right now Sonic team feels like such an incompetent studio and they have no intention of changing. very very very sad. 2022 will indeed be the make or break title for a lot of fans.
