  • watch us replace part number 86087 (clutch gear holder with bearing) step by step, with a quick video example of the issue for troubleshooting help.
The savage felt like it was slipping out of gear and popping in to neutral. After changing loads of parts, we diagnosed the problem as a bad one way bearing inside the gearbox, the one that that fits round the idler shaft ( part 86088)

Nice video, but I struggle to understand how the OWB could cause that slippage. At all. It was your slipper clutch or your clutch bell had grease on the inside. I know you changed your OWB and the issue went away, but consider that the OWB (unless it is just absent) could not cause that sort of slippage.
Just my opinion. Hope you are enjoying that Savage!

Thanks buddy. Yeah I know where you're coming from, but I even changed the clutch to the Aluminium HPI one, cleaned the bell and annoyingly it was still occurring. Even tried cleaning and degreasing the owb but nothing. I recon the rollers must have just worn, or one or two of them wore unevenly and they'd only sometimes grip the shaft, then let go again. When it did grip, it was a of reengagement clunk, like something just griped and stoped moving.
But all fixed now :) only been waiting for a new bell for 3 months from HPI to get back up and running!

@@RCEmpire_HQ I have the same engine. is this the reason why my RC wont run on grass? it runs on pavement fine but not on grass.

@@rotcataergeht Really! Hmm that's an odd one. Is the grass wet vs a dry pavement? When you say won't run, is that it won't drive, or start etc?

Great video, I got my self hpi savage x 4.6 and I’m having slight issues with it too, I’ve tuned the engine and the clutch bell is all good but when I hit the throttle sometimes the truck goes quicker than usual and most of times it dosent pick up a lot of speed. What do you think is the problem? Engine seems fine, my clutch bell is good as it’s been replaced with new shoes springs, I think my slipper clutch on the main spur gear is okay I think as the car moves. Any advice please
