Rip Shane! You always did it your Way. The Way that was right for you. You always did your own Thing. You lived Life the way YOU wanted to. Thats whats besides your Music and Poetic Texts what always inspired me. Thank you for everything Shane!
aye, i met him on a ferry to Dunleary. was a bit apprehensive to say hello, but glad i did. had a g an t wi him , and we shook hands and passed the time of day, ha. he was with the popes at the time. will never forget it.
I doubt any of you even know how macgowan sounds. It clearly is shane. Just because he has a rough voice doesn't mean he has to be sid. Furthermore, if you need more evidence, this version of 'My Way' was recorded in 1996. Vicious died in '79
Is this Shane all the way through? Because I barely recognize his voice except for the parts: "Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew When I bit off more than I could chew" and "For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught". I got all his records, with the pogues, the popes and others, but have never heard him sing like this. (I like the lines I quote, but in all fairness the rest is a bit like an impression id Sid Viscous, isn't it. First time ever I'm having a tiny bit of criticism. I love the man! Saw him twice, twi meters away from me, with the popes, three hours to late. But it was definitely worth the wait, most people had gone already. Also I recommend the documentary "A crock of Gold" by his friend Johnny Depp. Where you really see his patronism for Ireland. And an unforgettable story about the Mouri Warriors in New Zealand when he was there, lol!!👍)
Anyone who thinks Shane McGowan's version of My Way is any good should listen to Elvis Presley's interpretation of the song, live in Hawaii January 1973. Check it out, it's on UA-cam.
@MrV6sport what about him?, anyways i have always wondered what is it so great about Sid?, all of the Sex Pistols legacy belongs to Johnny Rotten. I love McGowan, he is the real thing.
SORRY IT WAS PAUL ANKA THAT WROTE MY WAY,🎶🤔 🎶HE WAS SORRY HE GAVE TO SINATRA, AS HE COULD NOT WRITE HIS WAY OUT OF A PAPER BAG. PAUL ANKA WOULD HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB. HIS BIG HIT🎶 WAS OH PLEASE WAIT FOR ME DIANA. 💐☘️🇮🇪
this is waaay better than vicious version. sid didn't even know all the lyrics so he just made up shit. but if you like the attitude over talent, yeah, sid has that. but talent...this version is waaaay better.
considering that the pistols influenced him to play music, I wouldn't say that he's a more of a punk than them..but who cares really..they're all good.
Being both a fan of Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious and now Shane I think they are different people... Johnny Rotten is a great singer, and Sid Vicious ( Well he had his own version of this song, not saying it´s bad, but i didn´t say it was great either) Shane is very cool here.... I ´ll give you this: I don´t think Johnny Rotten was a punk... But he tried to be one.... Sid was a real punk.
@MegaSteidl But you must admit that SID is still remembered today, for his stupidity.. So he must have done some things right... I don´t love the way SID acted but he was part of my favorite band and SID was a part of the story of the sex pistols.. Not all punks are dead and stupid SID was very young and very stupid, but he truly made a name for himself.
Rip Shane! You always did it your Way. The Way that was right for you. You always did your own Thing. You lived Life the way YOU wanted to. Thats whats besides your Music and Poetic Texts what always inspired me. Thank you for everything Shane!

This should have been the original version - if only Shane had beat Sinatra to it! Shane gives it the treatment it deserves.
This would make a fucking great tombstone when shane finally kicks it. i mean, it sums up his life perfectly
Wow!
This is to be played at my wake.
Me too.
And me.
Nobody sang it as well as Shane.
Great ! After Sid, the Shane version !
@ChrTiedt Agreed. Acorrding to his book he didn't want to do it but he was paid 16,000 quid cash to do it, it was used for a Nike commercial in 1996.
Shane Thankyou Appreciated One ☝️ shall Say No More🎱

Buyed it ! 1995 ?
@steffxdarling no one's comparing the artists, it's the versions that are compared, and it's certainly fair: it's the same tune.
