Just finished watching Crock of Gold the Shane MacGowan documentary, didn't know this song, to be honest, but I can speak, read & write Thai so was fascinated in what it said. this was when shane was at his breaking point had enough with the pogues, they eventually either got him kicked out/or he'd maybe claim he left on his own accord but thats another story. and he was battling some demons in his head, this was just around the time he started taking heroin regularly cuz he was so depressed and heroin becomes his crutch a was comforting for him, hes on heroin in this video you can tell by his expressions he just didnt care anymore. at least he got off off smack eventually.
