thats not it, thats not because he was so kind for his brother and was careful..it was for something dark.
That line he said has a dark meaning, and yes, really really dark.
The line is a hint for the own game, for Luigi’s existence. If Mario doesnt exist, Luigi also wouldn’t. Thats how Games actually work. So without Mario being there, Luigi is just..not there. So no Mario = No Luigi. Yes, its true

Mario's drowned body from 9.02.97 still being there in this episode implies the idea that Luigi's body after drowning in Promo Show is still there. And I love that, it gives it that episodic connection to the series.

23:50 I actually felt really uneasy when I began slowly hearing the Stairs music just barely in earshot, then the chomping sound. Even though it's been two years since I last heard of the whole Wario thing, I STILL knew what it was. And I actually felt uncomfortable. The "something is coming from far away" scenario has always been a little fear of mine and the build-up was so awesome.
20:23 And wow. Going through the mirror! I never thought I'd see the day. I always tried to do that as a 4 year old toddler because even though I knew it was a mirror, it also looked like more territory to explore. I love that these new Mario 64 "secrets" just tamper with your Nintendo nostalgia in a way nothing ever has before.

Those animation segments for me were emotional. The whole time I was watching this live, I felt depressed whenever I saw Luigi, mainly the part where he glitches repeating the phrase "They love ya!" And seeing Mario upset like he knew something bad would happen and had the fear of losing his brother again looming throughout this tape. That last part when Luigi says he feels like he doesn't exist without Mario and saying that he would always be with him only for Mario to turn around to see Luigi missing. The only question I have is, what was Jim going through when he was writing this script?

    • @R3TR0--93

    • @saucymemes6696
      @saucymemes6696 Рік тому +58

By this part of the story Jim is starting to go a little insane, but I actually think that maybe Mario is trapped inside the A.I., and due to Mario wanting Luigi to be with him so desperately, the A.I. conjured up a Luigi. And since the A.I. is clearly going through pain throughout the course of the video, the A.I. is in too much pain to keep Luigi going, so the A.I. has to remove him.

The way I see it, it's like this Mario was diagnosed with PTSD/Schizophrenia. Every time Mario stops thinking about Luigi, he just.. Disappears. Like when Mario was letting the footage of the E3 build and possibly watching it, he stopped thinking about Luigi. And when the footage ended, it took a while for Mario to realize what was missing, and as soon has he had the answer, Luigi came back. Mario, at this part, was not thinking the right way, which was one of the main causes to his utter silence throughout the second segment. Whatever Joke, quote, action, he expects Luigi to do, it happens. Mario even expects when the laugh track will play. Tracing back to two sentences before, while Luigi was speaking his usual puns, Mario was possibly realizing something was wrong/out of the ordinary. Were there actually audiences? Is there a reason to the predictable thinking? As Mario was becoming more aware of this unusual hint, he began to expect a sentence, and Luigi says: "Not like it changes much, just hear 'em! They love ya'!" That's the moment where Mario begins to mentally lose grip of the senario; Luigi's last sentence keep repeating whilst the "audience" kept laughing, and laughing.. And at the final part of the second segment, Mario gets his grip back last minute to realize... There was no audience.
Third segment, Luigi comforts Mario, trying to get him out of his new train of thought. He also states: "Somehow when you're not around, it's.. It's like I'm not around." The best way I can explain this quote to match my theory is that every time Mario doesn't think about Luigi, he's simply not around, and thus Luigi isn't around either. He also mentions that if Mario didn't want to do the show anymore, he'll still stick with him. After Mario gives into Luigi's words, he says: "Alright, you got me. Let's go home." But Luigi wasn't there. It was probably to show that Mario wasn't talking to anybody the whole time, and it was all in his head of hallucination. Due to the events of "Promo Show" Mario is still not over the death of his brother Luigi, and the only way he can cope with it at that moment was to keep him living in his head, and turns out, he got too used to it. Honestly, really sad for me to think about.
Take this theory with a grain of salt, for I'm still not sure PTSD/Schizophrenia's symptoms tie to these events, but let me know-

I’d like to just say, that this entire series was great. I know many have said that, but I believe there is a theme that we can take away from this.
    Loss.
No, not the comic, but grief, loss, and death of a loved one.
Mario, representing someone, lost their greatest man Luigi, representing that person’s brother.
I think it is important to note the scene where Luigi comforts Mario when the break the fourth wall, and the quotes “FORGET HIM”
In a brighter perspective, if you lose a loved one, don’t forget them. Hold them close to your heart, and don’t let the pain linger with you forever, because in the end it isn’t your fault, and they still love you.
Luigi, even if dead, still loves Mario, because he’s his brother. That’s what brothers do. Although it is more spiritual, but love is eternal.
The series, and Luigi, may have come to an end, but they live on in our hearts. We’ve been through this due to the loss of important people in the past years such as Technoblade, who people loved very much, but they never let him “die”. Technoblade never dies, etc.
As Greenio says, all things must come to an end, and that’s the sad truth. What matters however, is that it lives on in our hearts, our souls, and everything else.
In the end, none of us are really dead, or over.
    We’re just somewhere else.

13:56 The ship is (possibly) the same as the B-roll ship model

26:20 The hallway with the 4 paths and boo's being a reference to a personalized SM64 image that was floating around at the time of the peak of the trend
26:28 The center area could possibly be a 4th floor (not the one in classified) reference with the hole in the roof but I could be wrong
27:05 The Toad statue being a callback to the classified version of the 4th floor (or 07.29.95 to be exact)
27:31 The core from "07.29.95" appears down a small hallway
28:01 The staircase leading to a door being another reference to another personalized image that was also floating around
31:00 While not being a "reference" is basically a more refined version of Jim's speech from "07.29.95" which was later cut

I couldn't think of a better way to end this series, everything about this episode was fantastic. The levels were amazing, I could totally see them being real cut levels, while still having that mysterious aura to them. It was nice to see Mario & Luigi be the hosts, they were well written and looked great. The story was also nicely wrapped up. Although this series as a whole really got me to think about something.
"Thanks for playing Super Mario 64! This is the end of the game, but not the end of the fun."
Mario 64 may've ended, but the fun didn't. Through ROM Hacks, animations, fan projects and these tapes, Mario 64 has continued to live on. There may not actually be a spooky Personalization AI in Mario 64, nor is there some spooky Wario Apparition or a 4th Floor to the castle. However one thing from this series is true...

    This series was perfect.
Not from the lens of a horror fan, but that of someone who grew up infatuated with those few beta screenshots of Mario 64, Mario 64 creepypasta, and the L is Real myth. This series captured that wonder in me once again with the beta assets, environments that seemed both familiar yet new, and sound design and music that was *just* off.
I look forwards to re-watching the whole series in-order to properly learn about the story you are telling here, both because it truly is so well made and because any story I took in throughout this experience has been overshadowed by how much I enjoyed staring at the level and enemy designs, and listening to it all.

    Date of videotape recording: May 13th, 1996 - September 3rd, 1997.
Time of videotape recording: 12:34 PM - 08:14 AM
Current withholder of videotape: A UA-camr by the identity of "Greenio", known for publishing prerelease VHS tape footage of Nintendo's 1996 video game for the Nintendo 64, aptly named "Super Mario 64."
The tape starts off with a phone call, presumably from one of the developers. It soon ends and a title card appears, claiming that the tape is for internal usage only. Soon after, a flashy intro animation shows up, relating to a Nintendo-promoted show titled "Nintendo Mania" (Not to be confused with it's LATAM counterpart). The short briefly starts off with the two titular brothers, Mario and Luigi, cracking some jokes and briefly promoting the newest game that Nintendo had at the time, "Super Mario 64", in its more prerelease state (presumably E3 1996), with the show and brothers overall taking a"Hanna-Barbera style" design, if you will.
It soon cuts to the actual game itself, with our player controlling Mario in what looks to be a room with a pendulum, a locked door in the middle of the room, and two doors which seem to be blocked with bricks, all of which come up with the text saying "YOU HAVE A BAD FEELING FROM THIS WALL. BEST TO FORGET ABOUT IT", before Mario enters one of the not so blocked off doors, and enters one of the paintings in said room. The room in which he enters seems to have a very lush nature design, with a small lake in the center, and the tree stumps acting as a sort of passageway towards that painting. Flowers can be seen on the sides as the sunlight shines through the windows as Mario makes his way towards the painting.
Mario soon lands on a massive tree stump, and appears to be in some sort of jungle-forest type area, where he briefly explores around it for a while, doing his usual antics. He soon enters a teleportation area in another tree stump, and soon gets transported to the top of another chopped off tree. He soon talks to the pink Bomb-omb on his side after defeating a Piranha Plant, to which said Bomb makes the cannon accessible. Mario soon makes his way to the cannon, via numerous tree stumps, and soon gets to it. He launches himself towards an island and collects another red coin, pushes a button, proceeds to jump on some soon to be disappearing blocks, and swing on some vines that soon lead him to his desired location, only for him to fall as he makes a mistake. He soon corrects this action by getting to his location, promptly finishes collecting all of the red coins, proceeds to run towards the star he earned, and collect it.
After he does so, the screen promptly cuts to black as two keys appear on the screen, and soon one of them breaks. It is unclear as to what this could mean as of writing. The screen then transitions to Mario being in where he began, and goes to another blocked off door. It promptly comes up with different text, made apparent as shown by the "BEST TO FORGET ABOUT HIM" near the end. He soon attempts to get into another door, and is unable to find a way in. He does so again, and is once again unsuccessful. He then spots a faceless Peach painting, and soon long-jumps into it. He is soon sent into a library type setting, and soon goes into a much more deeper, scarier, and darker area of the general place, with Boos and flying chairs all over the place attempting to hurt him. Mario soon gains a Vanish Cap, gets out of there, and promptly goes into the caged area much more in the beginning. He soon finds himself in what appears to be a shower, with Toads everywhere (presumably washing themselves), before Mario gets out of there via another painting.
He soon is transported to another area, which appears to be a more abandoned version of Jolly Roger Bay, with the ship now gone, the water receded, and the eel dead. Mario soon swims into the eel's home, and finds himself in a previously unfound location, with seagulls chirping, waves crashing, and a lighthouse and more land in the distance. The place seems to be a earlier version of Tiny-Huge Island, as seen by the gigantic land and Goombas. Mario manages to soon find the ship, and soon go away and explore for a bit more. He gets to the very top of the island, and a star appears on top of the lighthouse. He soon proceeds to launch himself towards it via a cannon, but as he does so, the screen starts to experience some visual distortion, and it soon cuts to black as Mario gets closer. The last key soon appears in the midst of the darkness, and it too is gone.
It soon cuts back to the Nintendo Mania show portion, and Luigi starts to crack some jokes, to which all of them barely make make Mario laugh. Towards the end, Luigi repeats the saying "They love ya'!" several times as the crowd laughs harder and the music stops. It soon cuts to a backwards angle, where Mario appears to be alone. So very alone.
The video soon cuts to more gameplay, as Mario is back where he first started. The lighting seems to be much darker, and the faceless Peach painting is no longer there. Mario attempts to interact with the closed off areas again, to which a textbox appears, stating: "FORGET ABOUT HIM". Mario soon enters the door with the keyhole, and it soon cuts to black. Soon, Faceless Mario, or Stanley, makes an appearance once again, saying lines such as "I hurt. Why won't you just go away? Please just go away. Leave." The phrase "leave" starts to overwhelm the screen as it cuts back to Mario falling into a checkerboard floor, to which it reveals to be a corrupted version of the interior of Peach's Castle. Mario soon goes into another location of the corrupt castle, and it soon all goes back to normal as a voice clip from Peach saying "Mario!" plays. Mario soon enters the mirror room, and soon, everything goes back to its previous state. The mirror in front is smashed, and Mario can finally enter the other door on the other side. The aforementioned door leads to a white void, and towards another door. It soon is confirmed to be a trap as Mario falls and encounters another door. He promptly enters it.
Mario soon finds himself in the same map found in 01.22.96, and jumps into the blood red lake, regaining his health while doing so. The body of another Mario can be seen floating, likely from the previous tape. He soon gets onto land and makes his way towards a cave. He enters said cave and finds himself into a passageway, (presumably a sewer), with many Boos around waiting to hurt Mario. As soon as he finds a door, the sounds of chomping and laughing can be heard, likely from an anomaly called "The Wario Apparition". The sound goes away as Mario takes refuge and enters the door.
It soon once more cuts back to the Nintendo Mania show portion, where Luigi attempts to comfort Mario, who has presumably broke the fourth wall and found out that he's in a show. Luigi soon comforts him, saying that if he doesn't want to keep doing the show, he'll still be with him. This makes Mario budge, and soon turns around to go home. Luigi is nowhere to be found. Lights start to turn off. Darkness envelopes Mario. It soon cuts back to the gameplay portion of the whole tape, and Mario soon starts to explore more of the new area he's in. He soon finds a room with a silver Toad statue, and he finds his way into what appears to be a more larger variant of the castle's backyard/garden, complete with a windmill. Mario frolics around and soon enters the windmill, which leads to a white void. Text appears in the screen as Stanley slowly becomes less opaque, with the text saying lines such as but not limited to: "I don't know what to do. I'm finished. You just get lost. Every time. And you never listen. And you always hurt me. Jim. That's your name. I saw it. In the words inside me. I saw other names as well. Are they your friends? I don't think they like you. And I don't think you like me. Because you hurt me so much. I can go away. I want to go. Please. I'm not having fun."
The screen soon cuts to black, and soon cuts to a SGI IRIS workstation prompt. An auto-enhance feature appears, presumably being the personalization AI. It soon cuts to black. After a few seconds, someone starts speaking. Words are quoted below.
"I believe it's only right for me to say this right now. Although I dealt more than a select few would care, It was me. I got rid of it. I sold the cartridges. I brought it into the world, and I took it out of it. That was all me. I can't say I'm a better man for it, nor my (unintelligible). I-I've learned things in the past two years. Things no one else cared to pay attention to, except for me. Even then, to tell you the truth, I'm not entirely certain I really did either. Not in time, that's for sure. Maybe I should've seen this coming. There were signs. That, there were. Curiosity got the best of me, however. And that quickly turned into an obsession. It wasn't simple either. Quite the contrary, actually. It had a way with the words that knew, and it's a shame I only noticed after that was taken away as well. I don't know what it was exactly was I wanted, but I believe I'm walking away with the intended result. This all ends here. For good."
Text soon appears saying "The End" as reversed music can be heard, before the tape ends all together.

I’m not going to lie the last part of Nintendo mania almost brought me to tears especially the part where Luigi says he’ll always be there for Mario just for Mario to turn around and see Luigi gone but overall this series is everything I’d ever want in a Mario 64 horror series and this was the best ending for it.

So from what i understood from this is the following:
Jim was the person who recorded most of these tapes. from the earliest in genesis to the ones from 1997.
Even though Jim deleted Stanley from the sm64 source code in 05.13.96 , he still seems he has cartridges of builds that had Stanley in them that were showcased in the 1997 tapes hence why there were still tapes recorded after 05.13.96

A few scenes that stood out to me the most
2:39 Mario comprehending what just happened
    8:21
15:56 It seems Luigi is just his imagination seeing how his brother seemingly pops into existence, throughout this segment Luigi makes fun of Mario but I think this is Mario’s way of putting the fault on himself as during “promo show” he left Luigi to drown, at the end of the segment Mario is seen looking at an empty audience further implying that he really is a one man show.
    21:31
    23:53 Endless Stairs theme
24:47 this segment is what I think, Mario forgiving himself

I'm coming into this after recently coming across the ost of mario madness, and diving into where these songs get their origins.
I've never allowed myself to really watch anything like this series before, cause I always dismissed creepypasta/iceberg stuff as just "cringe"
But over time I've come to respect what people are creating. To a point where I finally let myself watch this whole series as my first like... creepypasta horror experience.
And I gotta say, I have never found myself as enthralled in a mystery as this series! The style, the themese are all so well done, and hell, I still find myself with so many questions and theories now.

Coming back after 6 months and watching the whole thing again makes me appreciate this series even more.
It may sound kinda goofy but this series left a big impact in my life, 2020 was hell and this and the personalization trend overall where my only comfort in those awful times.
Something I don't see being appreciated enough is how authentic it feels. It has some crazy wild shit, yeah, but it still has that SM64 charm in it, something that every other project lacks A LOT.
Even if I'm still kinda sad it ended I'm really glad it did have an amazing finale instead of the whole thing being scrapped halfway because some awful shit happening behind the scenes.
I really have no words to describe how masterfully done everything is, the music, the timing, the horror, EVERYTHING.

im genuinely happy i've been looking at this stuff ever since the whole wario-in-mario-64 stuff became huge in may 2020, and to think that it's already been nearly 3 years since then is shocking to realize, until it's also realized how far this entire early-SM64 idea went, even having it's own ARGs and series
it arguably influenced a lot of the Internet, especially regarding iceberg videos, considering if I'm not mistaken the SM64 iceberg was one of the first iceberg videos to get fame
and though icebergs are here to stay it's really interesting to see how a short video of Mario in a hallway led to one of the strongest ARG communities in recent time, all over a single game
all in all after witnessing everything from the original "you want fun" clip, to the iceberg, to the rise of Greenio and SM64 Beta Archive and more, then the Luigi model leak, and the SM64 Beta Archive situation, and the staleness that was 2022, and the general joy of the entire community, it's amazing to have seen and experienced in real time the thousands of people and mass recognition in general.
seeing this series end is actually very bittersweet, especially considering greenio is probably one of the last remaining giants of the entire SM64-ARGs community, but it was amazing to see everything happen in general
    thanks for everything wario head

"just my closing thoughts this time.mp4"
I just wanna personally say, as a longtime fan of your series, you've done such incredible work through it all.
Growing up loving SM64 as a kid, and always dreaming about what the game would be like if there truly was more to it, your videos always satisfied that feeling to me, alongside being such an incredible horror series with such incredible lore to it, fitting as I love horror very deeply.
Even since I first started getting more deep into and fascinated with horror since the old days of FNAF, I also grew to love a certain SMW horror hack series called 'the, also known as Coronation Day, which I actually also used to reference a lot in the comments of your videos, out of how invested I was theorizing the lore of it all, and even being inspired to this very day with my own aspirations of writing horror for other personal projects of mine.
Anyways, I just personally wanna say thank you for all the lovely work you've done throughout the years, and I'm also wishing you the best of luck moving forward in life, with collage and whatever else you got planned for the future. You take great care, and you have yourself a wonderful day!

Enjoyed this series from start to finish, especially when the craze started during COVID quarantine.
Also, from what it seems the end dialogue means, I think it means the following:
Every single tape released in this series was from Jim. Every single one. Starting from Genesis and the development of the game and AI activation, to the bugging of a commercial taping (Aftermath) to eventually coming back to reinvestigating the glitches just prior to and in the following year after the official release up to 09.03.97 (the first half of Season 2 and all of Season 1 except 07.29.95). The AI recognized it was Jim that had come back, and as a result, began going crazy again, with Jim documenting all of the oddities and glitches, even coming across his previous encounters (explains the dead Mario in the Inverted Castle Plexus moat from 01.22.96) Jim’s tone here indicates regret, which is where I think 07.29.95’s context comes back into play based on what Greenio had said about it before in relation to Genesis: Jim feels massive regret and wishes that he had killed or prevented the AI from taking over, which is why 07.29.95 is Jim’s failure - hence why the AI “dies” in that tape.
Side note the Nintendo mania side piece, is I think Mario processing the grief of Luigi dying in Promo show and his depiction here is only in his head (evident by flashes of just Mario and eventually just himself at the last part
    )
Im not totally sure if I got this right but if I’m on the right track then I am fine with that.

everything about this series was great, since 2020 i've been intrigued. this episode truly was the most quality one yet, using authentic hardware to replicate the feeling of it being real.

What a fantastic conclusion to one of the greatest analog horror series ever. Really enjoyed every moment of it and the references made from previous videos: Nintendo Mania's segments, the "four doors four challenges" room, a derelict JRB with the eel having died of old age (I presume), Stanley's appearance, that white void room from SM64DS, the inverted/mirrored castle grounds area and the drowned Mario corpse from 01.22.96, Endless Stairs + chomping sounds, that core from the non-canon video of the Fourth Floor, etc. The closing speech was magnificent. I look forward to see what the future holds.

32:47 I am 98% certain that the music is a portion of the song “the mind electric” that was reversed/distorted.
To be specific it sounds most like a the last lines of the song that has been distorted:
“When it grows bright, the particles start to marvel having made it through the night.
Never the ponder, wether electric calming if you look at it right”
Not sure it means anything, but I think it’s interesting (and it’s also one of my favourite songs so im happy to see it recognised)

Pretty cool. The levels looked amazing and I really liked the bit of analog-horror spook when seeing the hall of Peach portraits, matching the bit of dread that caused. In a way, I liked how low-key the actual supernatural conflict and resolution turned out to be. ~w~

2 years since the first tapes.... During this time I was watching each video, feeling tension every time Mario turned around, waiting for a giant head, or and distorted Bowser to appear. Even with the HL2 sfx or the constant errors, you made not only me, but also your entire audience feel constant paranoia, fear and tension. Greenio, thanks for giving us one of the best psychological horror series I've seen in my life, I hope that in your next projects we see something similar or even better.

I might have an idea for an sm64 arg like this… but that will be in the far, far future
I do have something to say…
YOU made me appreciate sm64, arg and stuff like this
YOU inspired me to think of something like this
YOU made me, because of the amazing storytelling, have respect for all of the characters
YOU have made me want a sequel to this ( even if it is the far, far future )
    This all, because of you
And I thank you for that.
    :]
