When I woke up, I would immediately boot up the game to try and find the area from my dream, but couldn't. The 'secret floor' of the castle captured that memory perfectly.

Glad to see that these are still going. The 1st season was hands down one of my favorite UA-cam series. The atmosphere and effort put in was top notch. I just saw these were posted and started watching. I saw the whole “these won’t be horror” and was like “oh, okay. So these are just personal replications of the beta and the commercials with it, cool.” But then we get to the Mario in the cave... and now this. It honestly makes me want to take a shot at doing something like this, found footage style and all (not gaming though as I don’t know a single thing about ROMs or coding).
This is incredible, I love the progression of this story. My favorite parts were how smoothly incorporated the button combo for L is real, plus how legitimate the sound effects and model for Luigi himself were. That, and more-so when Luigi goes into the tunnel and Mario just looks on in silence, knowing his brother just sealed his fate, rather than go enjoy some of the other bonus levels. Seeing the castle's basement flooded with such grim lighting made me feel a sense of fear I only remember from being a child. Such a wonderfully put together video, 10/10 in all regards. Authenticity, aesthetic quality, eerieness. (and showing the symbolism for the star statue being Luigi's grave really puts the cherry on top.)
Honestly, this might be your best video yet. There's something about that maze segment that perfectly captures how Super Mario 64 felt to me, and I don't know how to describe it without sounding like an utter madman, but yeah it tickled my nostalgia bone in a way that I don't think any video like this ever has. The descent into the flooded castle basement was also really cool; that and the bricked-off doorways everywhere were a really nice twist on familiar layouts! The maze being turned into a field of flowers after Luigi collected that star seems like one of those Dynamic Level Rearrangement things, considering the orange sky and all. I wonder if the AI bricked up those doorways too? And if so, then what for? And of course, the animated Mario segments are pretty great. I could see this being pitched as an idea for a show in the 90's, seems pretty on-brand for Nintendo at the time. Wonder what happened to Mario at the end though. Did the AI somehow leak into the show, or did somebody make that image? I guess this video's good at making me ask questions, lol. Can't wait to see more!
Green I seriously gotta compliment you on this one. This is some of your best work right here. So many factors come together to make this so incredibly unsettling and eery without being overly 'on-the-nose.' Especially that whole ending sequence. I've always felt some anxiety from water levels, ESPECIALLY if you're in an enclosed space with no air pockets to refill your health. That ending sequence takes that fear and perfectly utilizes it. Fantastic job! :)
I swear I had weird dreams about beta/different-looking maps in Super Mario 64 during my childhood/teenage years that were very similar to this. Maze-like gardens, different castle doors, colors and even a flooded section. I'm not even joking.
I like the New Yorker voice, since Mario’s original description (when his voice was being auditioned) was that he was an Italian plumber from Brooklyn, which was true in the super show.
I swear to god I had a dream containing some parts of those castle rooms. They all look so random, yet so specifically laid out, like you've seen them somewhere before. Awesome stuff!
I originally started on this series some months ago and finally caught up these past few weeks, and I gotta say... this is truly fantastic. This definitely helps me get into Mario 64 more again since the times I played it at hospital visits on Starbright Fun Stations. This new direction is certainly different & I like it for that, and the emotional horror here. Mario went from “Oh, they shoulda brought ME instead” to “Oh... it should have been me.” and his expression and silence was only something I noticed on a second viewing. Brilliant, especially the end that shows the tragedy behind the statue. While I’m not sure if this different direction was something you really wanted to do (due to... another channel that shall not be named), I think you’ve brought this series to a great place. Though I’m sorry you had to go through what you did. Looking forward to the next tapes!
10:39 I'd love to take a swim, but I'm scared of how deep this pool is. And that tunnel... I shadder just thinking about it! I wonder where it leads to... ?
This is really well made! It's surprising for me to see how Luigi eventually got removed from SM64. Let me try to analyze this... - A new show called Nintendo Mania is in the works, hosted by Mario. The series aims to showcase games created by Nintendo, hence the name "Nintendo Mania". To kick off the series premiere, Super Mario 64 was the main focus. - The player presses a series of buttons (LL RR Up Right Down Left) to control Luigi. - Luigi has his own set of voice clips, which are higher pitched versions of Mario's final voice clips and a few of them used here come from Mario Party. - The castle grounds has some minor differences. The central tower appears taller (I assume). The cannon is missing, and the initial water height is a bit lower than the final. - The foyer is identical to the E3 1996 version where the stairs are still missing. However, all the doors are blocked off by brick walls. Ground pounding through the sun carpet reveals a unique hallway that still has dead ends. A single door leads to a hedge maze area just behind the castle courtyard. - The courtyard used to have a hedge maze behind the wall. Luigi goes around collecting all the red coins. The final one sits on the fountain where the Eternal Star will soon be placed. Luigi then collects the star at the small fountain in the hedge maze. We cut to a commercial break. - Returning to the show at hand, Mario realizes he's stuck doing his shtick. The background music cuts out. - Returning to Luigi, the hedges are gone. The sun sets as Luigi attempts to re-enter the castle but all the doors are blocked off in the same way as earlier in the video. Reaching the big fountain area that will only remain in the final game, he finds some bricks jutting out of the wall. Luigi enters through a window and runs into a pipe, leading to Floor 2B. - Floor 2B doesn't have a whole lot to offer for Luigi with the low star count, and he makes his way to a big pool with a Toad standing nearby. The little Toad is worried over what lies in the tunnel at the pool. Luigi takes a dive into the tunnel to check out what's inside. - Cutting to the show floor, Mario realized that Luigi has made a grave mistake and that he'll never see his brother ever again. Well, in the SM64 universe, assuming. - Back to Luigi, he is seen swimming around the entire castle basement area, completely flooded. All possible exits had been barred off, though there are coins that help Luigi survive. Eventually, he drowns. - We see the courtyard's fountain again as the hedge maze behind the wall fades away, never to be seen again. The mysterious Eternal Star is erected on top of the fountain, possibly marking the grave of Mario's brother. A message reads "L is Real 2401". Sure enough, 24 years and a month later, Luigi returns from the dead after source code of SM64 was somehow leaked.
Oh my God, this is the greatest creepypasta I've never heard of. I usually hate them because of the ease they just toss elements to make a dumb story. But this one, the ingredients are well dosed. The ambience matches the Nintendo vibe, that just entered in a state of deliquescence since the beta was launched. Nintendo's prestige, those vibrato-enabled musics. The slow decade that is just taking place in the whole video. Bigger grounds, an AI-generated maze. Those scary deep-blue backgrounds with VHS quality. That mise-en-scène with Mario and Luigi, and the fact Luigi drowned, to become an unlockable character. F*ck me, that was wonderful. Or I should say, breathe-taking? Rip Luigi. EDIT: The muted parts, I think, make it a bit scarier. I don't know why.

Green I seriously gotta compliment you on this one. This is some of your best work right here. So many factors come together to make this so incredibly unsettling and eery without being overly 'on-the-nose.'
Especially that whole ending sequence. I've always felt some anxiety from water levels, ESPECIALLY if you're in an enclosed space with no air pockets to refill your health. That ending sequence takes that fear and perfectly utilizes it.
Fantastic job! :)

I like the New Yorker voice, since Mario’s original description (when his voice was being auditioned) was that he was an Italian plumber from Brooklyn, which was true in the super show.

@Tyler Timko i agree it definetely would make one hell of a level for SM64. It would probably give off Yoshi's Story vibes
0:27 does it look like i'm a cop to you, mario?
Yes
"2 other episodes were reportedly written."
To which I wager them being "The Legend of Zelda 64" and "Kirby Bowl 64"
Bro, imagine that one of the two supposed episodes was about Mother 3 for the N64.
That is also a possibility~. As well as a possible early trailer for "Yoshi's Story."
Would have liked to see them talk about Dragon King or Super Mario RPG 2.
I swear to god I had a dream containing some parts of those castle rooms. They all look so random, yet so specifically laid out, like you've seen them somewhere before. Awesome stuff!

Ok

6:58 Mario is asserting his dominance
Here for the premiere, Luigi really shouldn't have gone in that pool.
okay but the idea of the basement being flooded pre-pillar stomping is really cool and I wish that was real
