2 Samuel 6: "And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen shook it. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God "
Deuteronomy 22:20 "But if this charge is true, and the evidence of the young lady’s virginity wasn’t found, they are to bring her to the door of her father’s house. Then the men of the city are to stone her with boulders until she dies for doing a detestable thing in Israel-acting like a prostitute while in her father’s house."
Deuteronomy 22: 28-29 "If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives"
Leviticus 20:13 "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death.”
Leviticus 20:9: "For every one that curseth his father or mother shall be surely put to death."
Deuteronomy 20: "When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace. If they accept and open their gates, all the people in it shall be subject to forced labor and shall work for you. If they refuse to make peace and they engage you in battle, lay siege to that city. When the Lord your God delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the men in it. As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves. And you may use the plunder the Lord your God gives you from your enemies. This is how you are to treat all the cities that are at a distance from you and do not belong to the nations nearby"
Hosea 2:" Upon her children also I will have no mercy, because they are children of whoredom. For their mother has played the whore; she who conceived them has acted shamefully.
For she said, ‘I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.’ Therefore I will hedge up her way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, so that she cannot find her paths."
Numbers 31: 17-18 “Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that has known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.”
Numbers 25: 4 "Take all the heads of the people and hang them up before the Lord against the sun.”
Exodus 12: 29 "And so at midnight the Lord killed every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the prisoner who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock. Pharaoh got up during the night, he, all his officials, and all the Egyptians, and there was loud wailing in Egypt, because there was not a house without someone dead in it."
Ezekiel 4: "Eat the food as you would a loaf of barley bread; bake it in the sight of the people, using human excrement for fuel.” 13 The Lord said, “In this way the people of Israel will eat defiled food among the nations where I will drive them.”"
Ezekiel 9: " As I listened, he said to the others, “Follow him through the city and kill, without showing pity or compassion. Slaughter the old men, the young men and women, the mothers and children, but do not touch anyone who has the mark. Begin at my sanctuary.” So they began with the old men who were in front of the temple. Then he said to them, “Defile the temple and fill the courts with the slain. Go!” So they went out and began killing throughout the city."
Jeremiah 19: 8 - 9 "I will devastate this city and make it an object of horror and scorn; all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff because of all its wounds. I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh because their enemies will press the siege so hard against them to destroy them.’"
Luke 14:26 “If any man come to me and hate not his father and mother, and wife and children, and brethren and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple."
Luke 19: 26 - 27 “He replied, ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away. But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them-bring them here and kill them in front of me.’”
Psalms 137: 8-9 "Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is the one who repays you according to what you have done to us. Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks."
Isaiah 45: 6-7 “I am the Lord, and there is none else. I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil; I, the Lord, do all these things."

My favorite quote from Ecclesiastes is " *It is wonderful to be young, enjoy, take it all in but don't forget your father in heaven. Take into account him for everything you do. So refuse to worry, and keep your body healthy. But remember youth like everything else is meaningless* ". It made me feel better about wanting to be healthy, made me stop worrying as much (still trying not to at all), and to enjoy while I'm young as much as I can.

Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee judgment.
Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.

      That’s Eccelesiates 11:9 …
But i do not know where you got that translation from.
The original Hebrew, the Greek Septiguiant and every single English translation, read as GOD ( ELOHIM in Hebrew and THEOS in Greek ).
Why did you write Heavenly Father ?
I know God is our Heavenly Father, but usually when quoting a scripture , you stay pretty direct to the verbiage used.
Anyway, I only bring this up because I love the fact that YHWH is our Father and call Him such , as Jesus told us to but I only know of a few places , His fatherhood is mentioned and Him being called Father (to Israel) in the OT.

Maybe it’s just me, but I loved Ecclesiastes and found it encouraging. I didn’t think it was dark and depressing because the overall message is to enjoy God’s goodness in your life. The simple things like family, friendship, good food, and God’s creation. In the society we live in now, materialism is suffocating, thrown in your face, and demanded by most- how many people do you know that have this stuff and these things and still feel so empty and so lonely? It’s all futile because when you shift your mind to the things above you truly realize how meaningless things in this world are. So enjoy life, enjoy God and His goodness-everyone goes through the good and the bad in life.. so be kind, be happy when you can be, and know one day we will be home with Christ and that is why everything on earth is ultimately futile 🫶🏼

James Huang I’m sorry... what? I don’t understand what you’re trying to say besides assuming I have a bunch of mental health issues. Apologies if this comes off aggressive, but you did just assume a lot about me.
And what purpose is there in life without God? As Christians He is our purpose. We are supposed to live for Him. He gave made us to love Him. We are supposed to share His love with others.
Yes, there is more wisdom in the book than just that, but as someone who is not even 20 yet and doesn’t go to Bible college I’m not gonna be able to interpret that yet. I don’t know what “elephant in the room” you’re talking about, if I’m being honest.
I’m sorry that this is most definitely gonna come across aggressive, but you can’t just make a reply that assumes a lot about a person. Especially on a comment that gives you very little context into a person’s life and thoughts beyond the interpretation of part of a book of the Bible.
God bless, and peace be with you.

Long ago I thought Ecclesiastes was depressing and I largely chose to skip it. Last year, however, I went through a major depressive episode that lasted some months. A friend referred me to reading in Job, which I did, but it did not comfort me like Ecclesiastes. I felt like the author of Ecclesiastes understood my pain, and was commiserating with me. I felt like it was ok to feel how I felt, and that assurance helped me to work through the negative feelings and then move on and leave them behind. I will say for those who would ask, I do not have chronic depression. The average adult without diagnosed mental illness could have 5-10 major depressive episodes in their lifetime. One of mine was last year. God's Word was there for me in new ways and I am thankful for it.

As usual, Religious apologists spread falshoods to lure the vulnerable. This is what this video is all about! I just read the first chapter right now, it's no more than an old person(s) rambling about their take on their personal and very limited experiences, making mostly false generalisations. Universal generalisations usually are a sign of a feeble mind. The first line is a pure lie! Just ask Jewish Israeli archaeologists, like Israel Finkelstein for example!
If you really think that it is wise to live in fear, you just ruined your own life and made yourself a tool in the hands of your manipulators who promise you false safety from the false fear. This teaching is the stupidity of the worst kind!

Meditating has helped me understand life ina truly different perspective as we are all truly 1. Meaning my reality also dictates yours if I’m in it. The words you consume everyday all matter also the words you tell yourself in your head everyday. We sow what we reap try finding peace within as nothing will be found in this big world. Life itself is meaningless apart from pursuing that which is eternal, God and his kingdom. My life is short, my body hurts, I’m in emotional turmoil every day I wake up. Existence is short and terrible, but with God and his love all of it is worthwhile.
None of my pain is wasted. I don’t care about what I do and don’t have here on earth, because it all rusts and wastes away unlike God and his love. I rejoice in my tribulations because great is my reward in Heaven.

That book is like a combination of stoicism (there are many things that you cant control and just focus at your attitude to present), taoism flow (just let things flow by nature, dont try to master or control life) and nihilism (everyone will die and our life is just like a blink). I like and learn a lot from those philosophies but I always believe and know that Bible is the truth and the best source of wisdom. Stoicism, nihilism and taoism flow is good but they lack the most important thing and that is to fear God and rely on Him. Sorry for any English grammar or word mistake.

Could either of you philosophical bros help a heathen syncretist out? Please explain something to me outside a strictly biblical context:
Much as I loved this series they keep using the phrase “fear the lord” and I do not really understand what it means or how it can be a good thing. More atheistic friends of mine immediately pick up on the negative connotations and implications of the word “fear” and I cannot rationalize it being appropriate for a religion that defines itself as one of love
I sort of get it from an emotional perspective, but I can’t put it into words or even be sure that I’m not just interpreting what I want. Is “fear the lord” a call to feel humbled by life, as in Job? Or to submit to the word of god like that one pillar of Islam? Or is it a literal feeling of fear like when you witness some epic and overwhelming force of nature? What about that feeling of pain and peace when you finally accept loss? Surely it cannot simply be “be afraid and follow my rules or the sky daddy will get you!” Such are the words of spiritual abusers and are unfit for preaching.
Perhaps I’m being an apologist, and it really is just a holdover from those parts, but if there is any more enlightened merit to this phrase beyond its insidious utility, I’d like to leave my heart open.
      Agape

@@AnkhAnanku im not expert in theology or philosophy, but for me fear the Lord or God is more like awareness of our position to God. If I use mathematic analogy, we humans are limit close to zero and God is infinity. The difference is overwhelming, so in nature we are incomparable to God.
Naturally God can crush human without effort which will invoke fear to human by instinct. That is why i think all biblical character always scared whenever they encounter God directly. But God is loving and full of grace, so human wont be hurt by God despite of His almighty power. And that is why God is worthy to be praised and be worshipped forever.
So fear of the Lord is awareness of how great God is and how loving God toward His servant also respect and praise to God. Sorry for any English mistake. God bless you.

This was so great and so needed. Because I almost felt defeated after reading Ecclesiastes.
    - We can't control our own lives, so stop trying (God Is Sovereign Of All Things)
    - Whatever we are given, hold it with an open hand (What is given to us, could easily be taken away)
    - Enjoy a conversation with a friend, or the Sun on your face (the small things)
    - What you can control is your attitude to the present
And above all else, Fear the Lord and Keep His Commands
Another perspective I heard was the Hope of Ecclesiastes is the reality of the book, God understands our struggles, sadness and depression; it's a reminder that we DO live in a fallen world. The hope is that God gets it

When I first read it, I'm surprised to see pessimistic words which I myself also thought about the bitterness of this world. What it made me realized is that, it's fine to be honest about what you feel at the moment, even it's sometimes negative, we just have to keep going even we don't understand God's plan for us at the moment...someday it will make sense.

The bible is a book written for us and will speak personally to you when your heart is open. I do understand that social media news seem more “interesting ” in the sense that it’s in the present. But once you get to know the bible, we realise that much of social media can be read in the light of what the bible tells us about life. It’s good and bad. That helps us stay balanced so the love of the world does not draw us away from the love for God.

    Ecc. 11:9-10 kjv
Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

you can't mindlessly trust in a book with talking trees, talking animals, zombies, 950 year old people and mythical global flooding? What's wrong with you? The Bible is a perfect book. Look how perfect it is:
Ephesians 6:5 “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.”
Colossians 3:22 “Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.”
Leviticus 25: 44-46 “You may purchase male and female slaves from among the nations around you […] You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance.”
Exodus 21:20 “If a man beats his male or female slave with a club and the slave dies as a result, the owner must be punished. If, however, he survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken for he (the slave) is his property”
Exodus 21:2 “If you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve for six years, but on the seventh shall go out as a free man without payment”
Exodus 21:7 “When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are”
1 Peter 2:18 “Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel.”
1 Timothy 6:1 “All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered.”
Psalm 137:9 “Happy/Blessed is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.”
1 Timothy 2:12 “I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent”
Deut. 25:11-12 “If two Israelite men get into a fight and the wife of one tries to rescue her husband by grabbing the testicles of the other man, you must cut off her hand. Show her no pity.”
Deut. 22:28-29 “If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.
1 Cor 14:35 “It is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.”
1 Timothy 2:12 “I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.”
Lev 21:9 “If a priest’s daughter defiles herself by becoming a prostitute, she also defiles her father’s holiness, and she must be burned to death.”
Deut 21:10-11 “When you go to war against your enemies and the Lord your God delivers them into your hands and you take captives, if you notice among the captives a beautiful woman you may take her as your wife.”
Numbers 31:17-18 “So kill all the boys and all the women who have had intercourse with a man. Only the young girls who are virgins may live; you may keep them for yourselves.”

If you're anxious then you will gain the most from it. Your brain is telling you this is the elephant in the room. It's big but... Not gonna bite lol.
I take the philosophy and wisdom for what it is. For all the (God this God that) I take it as an arbitrary value as you would in mathematics and literature(which this book is).
Consider this, without examining your sorrows they will haunt you forever and possibly be the end of you. Those who fail to examine their sorrows live in a self-imposed state of confusion. Upon examining and overcoming your sorrows you will have gained perspective and understanding otherwise known as wisdom.
The biggest harm you can do to yourself is to simply listen and follow. Questioning and answering is another route to wisdom and with each step you will fear less and less the possibilities sorrow and the uncertainty in your future .

@@mariagalleriaxi8632 Some people choose to believe there is a God, some choose to believe there isn't. In both camps you'll see people that denounce the other side, because "how are they so blind that they can't see my position is right?"
In reality there's no actual way to prove this. I choose to believe there is a God, and that He loves me and has done incredible things in my life, and there are no words that anyone can say, no actions anyone may take, that will convince me otherwise. Likewise, I know people who believe the opposite, and just as strongly.
If someone calls a Christian (or, really, someone who lives their life any different than they do) "brainwashed" in an aggressive manner like that, or jokes around, or immediately dismisses the opposite point of view "because there is no logic to it", they're pretty much just saying that they themselves believe in their own point of view as blindly and illogically as they think the opposite party does with theirs.
At the end of the day, whether or not there is a God, and who that God is, is a matter of faith. Nobody can prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt, as God is, pretty much by definition, beyond human understanding. I do believe there will be a time where the truth will be revealed for all to see, but until that time, us humans have to settle for what we believe in.

I love the art so much and I love that it is packed with Truth. It teaches us how to act on things we have no control over. God doesn't want us to stress and struggle on the things outside of our hands, but rather be humble before God. Do not be humbled by the struggles and the unpredictability in life, continue to fear God and make every choice with wisdom because God is is control and will ensure that even in struggle, you can live a wise and proper life.

He said when he realized he was dead and was kinda watching from above (similar to other stories) he had an overwhelming sense of release. Released from all the things that he spent his life trying to control and manage. He said in an instant it was an amazing feeling of relief to not have to worry about those things. It was complete closure. Understanding the ideals of this scripture in this video brought this to mind.

This experience you told has the following importance: it shows what's truly relevant.
Ortega y Gasset, a writer I fancty, said that the things that are important are those that you will think about in the case of a shipwreck, of, well, a near death experience: it's the moment in which we are here for the things that really matter.
You see, in that situation, we probably wouldn't think about... I don't know, we wouldn't think about bills or this or that; we would think about God, beauty, love, friendship.
It's comforting tome that after a life of hardship, of violence, there will be closure, complete closure.

This video helped me understand that book a LOT better! I still have ways to go before I understand even better. And as it says in the book itself, we cant know it all, and dont have to stress about it. But you guys surely helped me see this in a different light. Thank you so much and God bless you all, your channel, your families, and everyone watching this!

Ecclesiastes is philosophy from God that every single one of the other ones we learn at school barely paraphrased. Proves that God IS wisdom

The wise is Christ, Agur from Proverbs 30, read Proverbs 30:4, is found in John chapter nine. So we know who King Lemuel is, born Immanuel Isaiah 7:14.

This video was extremely different from the ones that bible project makes...I mean this was so surreal and cerebral. It completely captured what Ecclesiastes is about. Loved this!!! God bless everyone at the bible project!!

Wow most of my early teens and young adult life was mostly a life lived like the ecclesiastical part of the Bible. So glad I've come to understand more than just doom and despair.

That is super well put and excellently made. Ecclesiastes is my favourite book in the Bible. It's the most brutal, honest, and accurate picture of our world. People today struggle with the question of “Why am I here?” and think that they are alone in trying to answer that for themselves. We aren't. It's an ancient question.

This was such a meaningful experience. The art and animation, the immaculate sound design, all help to deliver the message I need to hear today about being powerless in many senses, but being able to choose my attitude. Thank you!
