1. Can am maverick, it’s super overpriced and stupid fast with tons of features and options. 2. Any of those sweet camper vans. 3. Ariel atom or KTM cross x (obviously hard to find)
Fun fact: this car has been launched in 2006, after almost 18 years of production refuses to die, is sold in Europe under 4 brands simultaneously, with another firth to be introduced. You'll never guess who joined the party after two decades... So, the most ridiculous thing about this car is the fact that on November 2023 TOYOTA has launched its own badge-engineered version solely for European market. Toyota Proace Max, a Japanese-badged car with interior designed by Italians in the mid 2000's era in Fiat Grande Punto era, is probably the most quirky badge engineering in Europe in the latest decade.
I used to own a van upfitting business and can speak to the use case of the rear seats (would also like to point out that Merc has actually offered a Crew Seat config since 2012, as well as a full passenger van). Before the camper van craze, crew seat vans were almost exclusively purchased by contractors who only wanted to have one vehicle that they could drive to work in, and occasionally drive their family around in (or an extra crew member or two once in a blue moon). Around 2016, they started to get snatched up by families who wanted a camper/haul van with OEM seats that have been crash tested and safety verified (aftermarket seats are a huge unknown in regards to safety). The most common van upfit we would see was for moto families. Sprinter 170 4x4 Crew van with a light upfit package including walls, insulation, wiring, flooring, and L-track in the floor to transport 3-4 motos to the track and back. As far as which van is "best" among the three kings (Merc, Ford, Ram), I would rate Merc/Ford as a near tie (depending on what you're looking for) with the Ram an incredibly distant third. The Rams have transmission issues, electrical issues, horrible ground clearance, no ability to run bigger tires, horrible seats and tech packages, and bad resale value. Great for contractors and delivery drivers, bad for everyone else.
That’s okay contractors and delivery drivers are what this category of vehicles is designed for. I hope to god the day never comes that the companies start prioritizing instagramers over real businesses. I’m sure you know this but upfitted vans are trash off-road they are too heavy, no lockers, with tires that are too small and terrible AWD systems that flip out if they direct any slip. In my experience as a contractor they do work well in normal ice and snow. Unless it’s a Quigley or similarly modified van it’s not really going to do well off road.
Yea but the ram also has a couple upsides. That horrible ground clearance means it's easier to get into and out of (lower floor), and also that the roof is lower which improves fuel mileage and obstacle clearance. The van is also easier to upfit because the body is not tapered. And it's easier to hang stuff underneath because of no driveshaft. In terms of reliability ,every car has it's issues. In my circles, the promaster is generally seen as easier to keep running because of cheap parts and no turbo.
we have a Fiat Ducato campervan and it’s pretty good. Granted it’s a manual with the proven Diesel engine and these things can take a beating. The interior is the biggest drawback since Merc/Ford have way more modern and ergonomic interiors. It is definitely the most rustic and drives like a utility vehicle compared to some counterparts. But the Fiat Ducato has proven itself over two decades, it’s badge engineered by like 5 companies and even Toyota now.
Actually, this version with the nine speed transmission is good. The top two gears are locked out in the pro master. Ground clearance is barely different from transit and sprinter due to the transfer case hanging down. The 2023+ models have things worked out in terms of reliability.
Honestly this is probably one of my favorite reviews y'all have done! Yuri's excitement is contagious and it's cool to see a weird car every once in awhile!
Former amazon driver here, our fleet was full of these things and they are slowly being phased out woth the Rivian vans. These things are workaholics, the features are basic but the huge cargo space and super tight turning circle make it a suburban street sweeper. Living in once of these things 10 hours a day really makes you appreciate the HVAC that works really well and all of that window area. If I ever need a big van like this, these are at the top of my list.
Rivian are TERRIBLE. Work a huge tow company in San Diego. We tow at least 4-5 rivian vans a week. Amazon fleet vehicles. I can not stress how people advocate for those electrical abominations. Mind you, most of those rivians are 2022+
I used to be Amazon driver in Europe and out of all Vans we have in Europe, these are the worst. My DSP had all kinds of vans and every morning all the drivers fought to not have to drive this piece of crap. Compared to Ford and Mercedes, even Renault, you feel like You’re in a car from the 90‘s and it honestly feels kinda dangerous to drive
More van reviews!!!! Would love to see a comparison between Express/Savana, Transit, Sprinter, and these Promaster vans (or just individual reviews). The GM vans are especially interesting because they've been made (largely unchanged) the same way since 1996! Surprised you guys didn't mention the Dajiban for this review as those are the race drifting Ram Vans from Japan! (which would look super sick on Cliche Corner).
We need more van reviews! We use these for water/property restoration and sometimes we have large crews. That back bench would completely eliminate our need for a transport vehicle for large losses. Great review!
Vans are literally everywhere in Europe. Much more practical than trucks. Americans simply do not understand how common vans are here, and how uncommon and frowned upon pick-up trucks are.
Well, generally speaking Americans and Canadians buy pickup trucks to drive *in North America*, so why should they care what Europeans think about them?
Great to see this kind of review. I drive the 2017 model of this van as a medical transporter. It's uplifted with a rear wheelchair lift, and floor pan to secure wheelchairs in place along with seats for patients without mobility issues. This van rocks in the winter, the front wheel drive pulls through the snow during the winter and I've never be unable to get my patients where they need to be. The V6 is surprisingly strong but I can say that gas mileage isn't its strong suit but that might be because the uplift for the wheelchair lift and floor is probably a couple 1000 lbs plus the 40 lbs removable passenger seats and other equipment. For me compared to the Ford Transit uplift van we also have I enjoy driving the Ram more.
this is a wonderful coincidence! three days ago I went through your channel and searched for van reviews and was slightly disappointed, but now you made me happy :D I love big vans
Just another idea for its usability, I’m interested in something like this as a band/touring vehicle. Enough seating for 4 members and room for all the gear. Looks great!
Love it when you guys review commuter/commercial vehicles! I'm still a little sad though that you guys haven't been able to review more of the Minivans. Asides from the Pacifica, it feels like the Odyssey review was ages ago and I would love to hear your thoughts on the Sienna and Carnival.
Love the excitement. My Ram Promaster 1500 136” HR has been my home for over 6 years. I am SO GLAD they’ve upgraded the front end - b/c it has been the ugly duckling for its whole existence in the US. Love that you reviewed it - there’s so little actual reviews of vans. You should try it off road, it does surprisingly well with short overhangs and good break over. I’ve taken mine places I probably shouldn’t have and it’s done it and hasn’t broken down. #vanlifeislife
Do a review on the Sprinter and especially the Ford Transit (which is for me personally as a delivery driver, WAY better than both lol) then you guys will realize that this Ram Pro Master is waaay below than both of those when it comes to overall comparison. Especially the door arm rest on these, haatee them! Like why is it so far it just doesnt make sense!! 😂
Hell yeah, do more van reviews, including including your friend's van, and cool adventure trips on different types of vehicles for their intended use! For example, go on a ski trip on a cool SUV, a beach drive in a convertible, or a fun handling car carving canyons in Utah, Colorado, or California!
If I had 4 more people and 3 big dogs this would be a perfect vehicle especially with the low loading floor height for dogs and it is convenient to load for yard work. I like the covert windows and the look and it is practical. Thank you for the review.
hello, former professional van driver here. the real reason package gets smashed, at least from my perspective, came from bad drivers suddenly cutting in front of us so we had to brake very hard to avoid accidents.
That was a great review! I could tell you both were into it. I love that blacked out...MIB look. ...I kept expecting one of you to break out "the flashy thing" 🤨...you didn't flashy thing me..did you?🤨
My dad bought one of these last year (he's bored in retirement) from a dealership in Colorado Springs that outfits them for "van life" - it has a small kitchen, bed, cabinets, headliner, etc. It isn't huge looking from the outside but on the inside it is enormous. I really love it, it has decent power and is quiet on the road. The only thing I dislike is that the seats are horribly uncomfortable over long distances.
You should do a review of the Explorer or Waldoch conversion of this van, basically turning it into a limo, for less money than the Winnebago. The Winnebago is a camper conversion, which is fine, but the Explorer and Waldoch conversions are a bit more usable as a daily driver for the family.
Honestly, I love "regular" car reviews like this. Too many car review channels review $50k+ cars and the cheaper car market ($20k-$30k) always seems to get overlooked. While this van was in the $50k+ category, cheaper cars should be reviewed more often.
Why is this one of my favorite videos you've ever made? Maybe because the new Promaster 1500s were just delivered at work. I spend waaay more time in my work vehicle than I do in my personal.
This is a great review! Also this van is configured great with the seat in the back for construction crews with 4 or 5 guys!! This is how we spec our vans for wood framing crews.
I have a 2018 Promaster 2500 159wb high roof, bought new, now 70,000 miles. I hate the transmission downshifting for me when going down hill. If i want to coast and gain speed, i can't. If i take off on the top of a mountain i must keep my foot on the accelerator until i reach desired speed, then use brakes to try to hold that speed or it will downshift to try to hold me back. If it only downshifed one gear it would be ok, but it will keep downshifting and has gone over 5000 rpm several times. I'm sorry if someone thinks this is a good idea, but i would not buy another Ram if this is how their engineers think it should be. I want to wear out my brakes not my engine and transmission. It's dangerous on slick roads to have this happening and when truckers are behind you they are not expecting this slowdown going down the mountain.
We have a 2023 136" high roof and we like it. It hast he adaptive cruise and driving assist that work very well. Admittedly we had a problem with the system, but it turned out to be a "non" electrical or computer issue.
WHAT ! A V6 276hp in this ?????????? wooooooooooow ! in France, we have the same, but with little engines and even EV (under different brands, like Peugeot, Citroën, etc .... )
I used to drive one of these vans for Amazon only thing I hope ram did renew was door hinges would start pulling the aluminum it was screwed to since we open and close the doors so much it would literally start to tear from us swinging the door open so much
3:25 Major lie. The Ram Promaster is NOT the first to have a 2nd row. They're the last. Sprinter and Transit have been making crew vans (2nd row seat) for years. Promaster just started offering it because, the after market has been offering it for years. In fact Promaster reaches out to an outside company called Snoeks from the Netherlands to supply the seats and hardware for installation. Promaster is the only van that doesn't come with a full seat option from the factory. Making statements like that, causes me to doubt your expertise and knowledge.
Thank you for doing this review! You all are definitely joyful. Lane centering and adaptive cruise control are not cool at all. So, Im only happy it exists for the many drivers that need such a thing.
I've been looking for a cedent review on the Promaster and we now finally have it. I think you are going to be surprised with how many views you receive. Would be nice to see it with varying amounts of weight in it on performance and handling. Thanks for the awesome review and keep them coming.
If you go to Europe and see the smaller motorbike racing teams these are the go to vehicles. They sleep in these things over the weekend. Then put the bike in them to take the bike back to the shop.
Worked at a brewery and had RWD Ford delivery vans. In the winter the damn things would get stuck at the bottom of the hill where the loading dock is. FWD would have been super handy.
Depends I feel like, if you were fully loaded than FWD should theoretically be worse since the weight would all be in the back so while driving up the hill it would push the rear wheels into the ground and lift the front off the ground. AWD vans would have been the best for that kinda situtation.
Great review, and fun, too! And for all the haters with "it's a Fiat!," well no. Not entirely. North American version has a different powertrain. And if they then start with "Pentastar sucks!" the answer is "not if serviced and maintained correctly." Kip, the owner of the Promaster's Only channel here also runs a Promaster shop & van expediting business in Ohio. He just retired his oldest Promaster with over 700,000 mi on it and routinely sees them with multiple hundreds of thousands on the odometer.
In Europe we have it since nearly two decades (2006) as Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Jumper, Fiat Ducato, Opel & Vauxhall Movano (since 2017) and now Toyota ProAce Max but it is only available with diesel 4pot and electric, no V6...
Finally a good review of vans, you shows Also review the fossil of Chevy Express & Gmc Savanna with the 6.6 V8 they are old school dinosaurs. Maybe they could be some Sleeper in the Truck world. I want a review from you. Is like reviewing a Ford Crown Victoria all new from factory in 2023 but in a Van❤🔥♥️
I once had a camper build out on a standard roof Econoline -I liked the squareness for the build stage, but not the terrible fuel mileage of the 351 V-8. One of these looks like the ideal basis for an awesome family toy hauler. Back in the '60's when I raced motorcycles our family came to the races - 2 parents, 2 kids, and 2 motorcycles in a utility trailer.... This is an ideal rig for families that also need to haul. 4 Stars!
THANK YOU! For explaining the engine situation. I was driving behind one of these last month and was SO confused how it was clearly front wheel drive but the badge said 3500
Race teams. That's a brilliant use case. 4 or 5 team members with spare parts and toolkits in the back. Also: painters, plumbers, electricians...basically any tradie. You don't need stupid amounts of ground clearance or a pickup, just a lot of space for both people and things. Another fun fact: the heavy duty suspension is actually pretty high-end. "The four-wheel independent performance suspension consists of: a front short/long arm with high upper "A" arm, lateral and diagonal lower links, coil spring over gas-charged shock absorbers and a stabilizer bar; a five-link rear with coil springs, gas-charged shock absorbers, isolated suspension cradle and stabilizer bar."
I work at a Winnebago dealership and we offer these as campers in various trims / options. These drive pretty great for what they are and the tech is awesome. The digital dash, wireless charger, headunit, wireless CarPlay, and assisted driving tech punches well above what you’d expect. The new Sprinters do offer more options, however they don’t feel as car like as these.
However Sprinter MBUX audio system > Ram Promaster system. The MB just sounds more balanced and has a better sound stage. Both are honestly pretty terrible.
Also Travatos and Solis’ (the two main promaster variants) usually go for substantially less than MSRP. The sticker shock is definitely real though and it’s pretty inflated.
You guys absolutely need to get into a fully feautured Ford Transit AWD with the Twin Turbo Ecoboost. The quality and options are leagues above the Ram!! I'd try to find a medium roof for ultimate Cliche Corner sends.
@@TheStraightPipes Maybe reach out to a local camper van conversion place. The one I work for in Colorado has 3 of the new Transit Trails in each body configuration and in 3 different colors.
yes! you should absolutely go overlanding and camping with a van, van life and make videos of it! you guys would be awesome and fun at that! please! :)
🤠 I have a Travato. I love it. The Promaster chassis makes a great camper van. It is supprising how quick the Travato's are even after the Winnebego upfitting. Total weight is just under 10,000 lbs. 🤠

I ride dirt bikes and work from home. I love the versatility of my AWD Sprinter Crew for both family and fun.
We have a 2023 136" high roof and we like it. It hast he adaptive cruise and driving assist that work very well. Admittedly we had a problem with the system, but it turned out to be a "non" electrical or computer issue.
WHAT ! A V6 276hp in this ?????????? wooooooooooow ! in France, we have the same, but with little engines and even EV (under different brands, like Peugeot, Citroën, etc .... )
Pretty sure the caravan had that motor like 15 years ago
Absolutely. For starters you can actually live in this if you have and / or want to. And you don't have to spend half of your day refueling this.
As a full time musician who likes to tour and play out of state as much as possible, I LOOOOVE the back seat!
One of my favourite recent videos from you guys! The 911ST was good too! But this style video is great.
Joe Rogan's arrows would shoot straight through that.
Since 1981 actually
This is now officially one of my favorite reviews that you have ever done!
More vans for sure! I've driven the full size Transit and it felt pretty quick for a van.
Love the unique reviews!
4 Stars!
Jakub's favorite topic: the fact that he's 6 foot 1 and a half
"Accurate height descriptor" is my middle name
The van pipes era has begun.
Goated title
Never really been a fan on how these look but im not gonna lie this promaster all blacked out looks really good
This is why I love you guys!!!!
About time someone does a review of the updated promaster. Literally no proper reviews out there of it.
Love this review please do more like this. Just different 😊
You guys absolutely need to get into a fully feautured Ford Transit AWD with the Twin Turbo Ecoboost. The quality and options are leagues above the Ram!! I'd try to find a medium roof for ultimate Cliche Corner sends.
Ford won’t get us any :-(
@@TheStraightPipes Maybe reach out to a local camper van conversion place. The one I work for in Colorado has 3 of the new Transit Trails in each body configuration and in 3 different colors.
We also have the new AWD Sprinter
RIP box test. Never forget.
“Sleep like a corpse” lmaooo same
yes! you should absolutely go overlanding and camping with a van, van life and make videos of it! you guys would be awesome and fun at that! please! :)
The only youtubers measuring darts capacity! It's why I keep coming back.
Mass appeal
Eager Yuri is contagious! One of your best reviews.👍👍👍
seeing the same intro that you would do with any other car - including the launch - Priceless.
Another great review. Keep finding things that are not basic transportation to keep it fresh and fun for you guys
Nice work with the title, it’s all about timing 👍🏼
Love the ‘horsepower and torque’ energy ❤
🤠 I have a Travato. I love it. The Promaster chassis makes a great camper van. It is supprising how quick the Travato's are even after the Winnebego upfitting. Total weight is just under 10,000 lbs. 🤠
Keep em coming
Van and camper van and RV reviews for sure Added to the mix! If it’s got an engine and wheels go for it!!!!
I would love to see them do camper van reviews. They could also review RVs!!
This review delivers!
LOVE that you did this van review!!!
Gosh, this makes me yearn for someone to develop a 70s style custom van. Carpet and buckets with a mattress in the back. For camping.
I wish I loved something as much as Yuri loves the ProMaster
This is far more interesting than that new stainless steel fridge on wheels. I had no idea you could spec it out so much! so freaking cool!
The reason why white noise is becoming an option is because it's easier for your ears locate where the sound is coming from vs a beeping noise.
Might be kind of cool if it could haul a quad all summer, and a snowmobile all winter. But it looks just a little small for the task.
I can haul two full sized Harleys in mine
