    I've only ever bought the finished product, so I'd never seen the process until I blundered across your video -- absolutely AWESOME!!! I'm not going to attempt silversmithing at my age, but I've acquired an incredible appreciation for your skills! And from now on, I'll be able to comprehend what I'm seeing when I examine the finished ring. Thank you so much! 😺💕🐾

    Though I would never silversmith, I am fascinated at the art. The whole process is mesmerizing and the product itself is therefore worth more than 100$. I can't believe people sell for 20 and 30$ sometimes. I'm happy I watched this video. And the ring is beautiful.

    Thank you for making this beginner video. The ring is lovely. I've always wanted to make silver and turquoise jewelry. My husband has bought me a beautiful collection, over the years. I love it!! Now that I'm a grandparent, I figured it's now or never, so I subbed you! Looking forward to learning your techniques! 🤗

    I haven't worked on metalsmithing in years. I forgot how to do everything. I still have my tools and want to get back into it. What is in the spray bottle again? Spray flux? I don't remember that they had this type of flux. I think mine was like a paste. This video was great. You do such beautiful work and make it look so easy. I remember melting bezels before. Lol

    This is such a fantastic video! I really appreciate you linking all your tools as well. It’s been incredibly helpful for me as I start my metalsmithing journey :) I do have a question though. I was wondering what you used to cut the 6 GA wire for the ring band? I love those thicker ring bands as well and I definitely want to incorporate them into my pieces. I just bought a bunch of 6 GA copper wire to practice with, and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to cut it 😅 thanks so much for your help!

I always find if I add it to the bottom of the base plate, no matter how well I think I planned it out, it gets covered by the shank! Your ring turned out gorgeous. You did great Leanne…. And your you tube has really grown. You probably don’t recognize my username on UA-cam but this is AUMi Jewels…. I’m still teach my silversmith classes, but I’m also starting UA-cam channel on MetalClay silver… you know I feel so bad because I judge people with metal clay silver jewelry I thought oh there are just cheating. But let me tell you it’s a lot of work. Cool Tools has sponsored me and I really now appreciate those Metal Clay designers. It’s a lot more tedious work. But being a Silversmith designer myself and you know this just as well as me that the back has to look just as pretty as the front… I already started a different Instagram page that’s only dedicated to Metal Clay Silver work. And I’ve got to work on my Silver Smith Instagram page I am so behind. You know one of the things that I like with you teaching on UA-cam is your voice is very soothing and I agree with you 100% Silversmithing and Metal Clay Silver is very therapeutic for me as well.. well you keep doing an awesome job I am so proud of you…🔥🔥🔥🤗👏👏👏👏👏

    How would you price this? Seems like it could easily take a whole day, plus the materials. I guess people would pay a premium for handmade local jewelry, but $200-300 seems like a stretch.

    • @SpiritMountainSilver
      @SpiritMountainSilver  2 роки тому +2

      Pricing can be a challenge. You obviously need to factor in material cost (silver + stone) and the labor put in to the piece. But you also need to account for overhead costs associated with running your business. It definitely takes some figuring out, and I can say for myself I sold a lot of jewelry at a loss when I was starting out.

    This is my fave video so far! You’re a great teacher. Can I ask… do you pickle your silver as you go like after every application of heat/solder joint? For example is it necessary to pickle after each step? Also how long on average do you leave the pieces in the pickle? Thank you 😊

    • @SpiritMountainSilver
      @SpiritMountainSilver  2 роки тому +6

      Thank you so much! And yes, what I like to do is first quench the piece in a bowl of water after each soldering operation or let it slowly cool down on it's own. Then I will throw it in the pickle pot! I usually leave my pieces in the pickle pot until they are a nice clean, white color all over :)

      @SpiritMountainSilver  2 роки тому

      Hi there! Thank you so much for all of your kind words! I actually answered this question a few times in this comment's section. A lot of people seemed to be curious about this. It's a pretty long winded answer but basically each solder has a different melting point (hard having the highest melting point and easy having the lowest). So rule of thumb is to start with hard then work your way down. I am going to try and make a video about the different types of solder and when to use them, so stay tuned!😊

    Wooow AMAZING LIKE ALWAYS 👏🏼😍 But I have 2 questions 😅
    1- Why why do you use 6 wheels to polish the ring? What are the differences between one and the other?
    2- Why antioxidant should be put on all silver before polishing?
    Thanks a lot in advance 🙏🏽💙I have so many questions to ask 😅

      Thank you!!!😃 And each wheel is a different grit so I like to go through every grit in order (lowest number first) to obtain a high shine! And I like to add the oxidize the silver once I have all my marks in the silver and any excess solder removed. The blue wheel I found is best to remove the patina because it isn’t too coarse so it won’t take off too much!

    So I’m confused how the extra easy solder under your maker stamp doesn’t flow when you use the medium solder on your ring shank? I’m trying to understand how to use all the right levels of solder flow with embellishments and a shank. Thank you!! 😊❤️

      Mostly heat control. I don’t focus the flame on the stamp section directly but rather near the ring band where I want the medium solder to flow.
      Since the stamp is flat it’s not super necessary to use any stronger solder and if the extra easy solder was to reflow the join wouldn’t be affected since the stamp is just a flat piece of metal. I could solder the stamp on last but I like to do it before the ring band Bc it’s helps me place the ring band exactly where I want it. If the ring band was soldered on first and I had it placed too high up on the back plate there might not be enough room for the stamp to sit. ☺️

    Wow, wonderful! thank you so much. Just starting out, have made several rings in classes. Trying to do this at home. Excellent explanations. What size blade do you use for the 22 g backplate, and the 6 g band?
