    Hey Jimmy, just wanted to let you know that your videos have inspired me to refurb and remake a load of my grandads old rusty rotten tools. Brought a load of it back to life and it's going to live on. My son and I are now making his first hammer. He's 11. Thanks so much. Keep everything coming.

    Didn't realise you'd done some tv work, gave Dirty Money a look, your youtube is infinitely superior, none of the superfluous 'for tv' padding, just quality.

    Love it! Looks heavy duty enough to take a beating. I would only change 2 things. I would make it a bit taller and I would put a piece of wood between the anvil and the stand to dampen the noise. Love watching your builds and now your VLOGS!

    I love the way you add value to stuff. Not only your creations, but the old, tired tools that your find and restore. They would be junk to many people. But, your knowledge and skill and determination give them purpose and utility. Looking forward to the next Vlog! Okay, two questions: 1. why the construction adhesive between the top plate and the stand? 2. No "feet"/ won't the legs sink into the soil?

  • @bladesmith01
    @bladesmith01 8 років тому

    great job. I'm building my own but will put a plate on the bottom and fill the cavity with cement. Put saran wrap around the bottom of the anvil and let it sink in just enough to seat. That way the weight of the cement adds to the anvil. Also will have the bottom set up so a pallet jack can easily fit underneath and move the anvil whenever I need to.

    • @redfreckle2044
      @redfreckle2044 8 років тому +4

      I didn't really think of that, I assumed he used construction adhesive because he could only spot weld the outside perimeter and wanted to bond it as well as he could. It at would definitely eliminate the vibration (and ringing noise) between the two plates.

    I think an awesome idea would be to make a steel ring and then weld the smaller rings for holding your tools around the perimeter of it and then place the ring around the stump you were originally using as an anvil stand.
    However, the one you made is still insanely awesome. Nice job

      You guys have any ideas how to make anvil stand that keeps anvil at its place but dampens almost all the noise+downwards energy? In this case asking as maker in apartment building....my downstairs neighbor is old man that seems to be blind and deaf, but i doubt that his THAT blind and deaf, not to hear me hammering down :D I really really dont want to get complaints=get trow out from here due that....Still i need something solid to hammer against... kinda problematic for me..

    You might want to stick two large magnets to the anvil. Apparently it silences the ringing that occurs when you hit it. I couldn't explain why but apparently it works. Chandler Dickinson did a video titled "Blacksmithing - Do Magnets Reduce An Anvils Ring" demonstrating it.
