Only real worry I have about the squad is the 3rd midfielder after Bellingham and Rice. Philips is lacking sharpness since he hasn’t been playing for City, Henderson is 33 and playing in a weaker league now, really think Southgate needed to look for a new starter in that spot rather than continuing to rely on Henderson and Philips. Funnily enough I’ve got faith in Maguire, he’s still performing well for England and he’s playing for United right now(even if its only because all their other defenders are injured lmao)
Southgate should just swallow his pride and just copy Pep. Have Stones invert: he knows how to do it, Walker knows how to cover it and Rice is used to working with it. That frees up another midfield spot for a Foden/Maddison next to Bellingham.
Depending on the opponents we've got Phillips Ward-Prowse Trent Rico Lewis Gallagher and I think Jacob Ramsey could give this England team balance on the left of a midfield 3 if he has another good season at Villa
Really happy with our team overall. I would like to see Colwill start alongside Stones for England in our next camps before the Euros. It's a shame that Ben White doesn't get called up too because he could also work alongside Stones, that said Guéhi looked good last night too. The number 8 position concerns me the most, hopefully Phillips gets a loan to somewhere like Newcastle in January.
I believe the word is "natural". Jude Bellingham is that and yet so much more. His skills, his knowledge and his love of the game s encapsulated by his humility and team player mentality. Mark my words, this is where England finally delivers. God knows after so may disappointments we have earned this. Bellingham is the complete package. Great vid.
The third midfielder for me is either Trent, Maddison or jones, all relatively young, but all provide something different, if we want to me more attacking I guess it makes sense for Maddison to be in the squad, breaking the lines and he’s good at dropping back as well. If you want good counter pressing use jones. No one really realise it but he’s 100% one of the key reasons Liverpool are back this season. Trent has the best creativity but lacks defensively and that might bite us unfortunately for both parties .
England won’t win any major honours as long as Southgate is the manager. This team is still being carried by individual performances and while it’ll make them progress deeper into the competition, they’ll ultimately come short, as they always have, because football is a team sport. Tactics / gameplan / substitutions > Saka / Bellingham / Kane and inshallah
I think James is missing the point that Southgate will cost you in the end regardless of the talent. England had one of the best team/players in the world in early 2000's and the manaher cost them. Its all good and well against struggling/weak opponents. But when you come up against an inform and good team, the manager decides the game. And Southgate will park the bus and lose tactically. The title of this video should be: "The other top teams are weak, Southgate has a chance"
Kane, Rice, Bellingham, Stones all world class and we have a lot of other quality options on the pitch also. We have every reason to be confident going in to the tournament.
No matter what people say Southgate has brought back the love for England football team. People forget that less than 10years ago we were probably at our lowest losing to Iceland, now we are regularly getting to semis and finals whereas ‘powerhouses’ like Italy, Germany and Spain are struggling to get there and even the tournament
@yoshiwoollyworld well for starters considering we got knocked out by Iceland 2 years prior to getting to the World Cup semi finals and 4 years prior to getting to the Euro Final I would say that is pretty good progress. This whole thing about the draw is rubbish we can only beat who is against us, yes you can argue we didn’t beat the better teams when it came to it, but I for one would say in the Euros would say we deserved to win. Finally this is coming from a person who lives in a country who couldn’t get out of the group stages and finished with 0 points and the third worst goal difference in all of the groups, plus you had to employ an English coach to get you to the World Cup in the first place
@yoshiwoollyworld not really I will admit that he shouldn’t have made the subs for penalties but don’t think you can really blame Southgate, considering one there should have been a red card to Chiellini and two that was kind of last chance salon for that Italy team. I think a vast majority of people will remember him for getting us to finals and bringing the good times and small minority like yourselves are basically pessimistic doubters. The only reason (or one of the main reasons) why Italy won’t get to the next euros is because, oh wait England beat them (twice) so please STFU.
For me its not about the squad or players picked. Its about tactics, style philosophy. Southgate is lacking. World class players may get him through but you wouldnt take southgate at qpr. Imagine if we had a proper experienced manager not a guy whos peak was mid at boro
What has Southgate done tactically that is bad, his substitutions I can agree with are suspect but we’ve had better teams in the past who struggled to even get out the groups of world cups, Southgate is our most successful manager in almost 50 years and like it or not clearly knows how to play tournament football. It’s not exciting but it wins against tight opponents
@@lenl860 England have had two superb draws in the last two finals. Denmark at home in the semis ? But hey if people want to think he’s a great manager it doesn’t really matter. England have a great chance of at least getting to another final regardless
Yeah I think he’s not the best tactically but the level of international managers is lower & also he has a great ability of keeping the squad united despite only being together every few months. We had Sven & capello who were good tactically as they managed at a good level but couldn’t unite the squad & we failed. He’s the best we have at the moment. Nobody available or willing to take the job that does any better than he is now
Had a think on this and you're spot on. Honestly, with the logic of this, I basically agree with all of Southgate's decisions in his squad off the back of this. Thanks for your insight Jim
I still think France is gna win tbh, but they're definitely favourites . im excited but i'm not gonna get super gassed just because they beat an bad italy side
Pickford James stones colwill Trent Rice Palmer Bellingham Foden Kane Saka I think this is our best starting 11, if everyone is fit come the tournament and if James manages to re-find his fitness he should be starting right back, he is so well rounded. When we are in possession against a low block, it becomes. Stones colwill James Rice Trent Saka Foden palmer Kane Bellingham Kane and Bellingham in the box to score the goals and be the main targets in the box, Bellingham can interchange with foden and palmer, he should have a free role when we have the ball, but he should be in the box as much as possible.James and Saka creating the width on either side putting in crosses and doing cut backs and being the extra person in the box when the ball is coming in from the other side. They are both so creative from wider areas, Saka will be able to be more creative on his strong foot, it may take away his goal scoring ability but he’s there for other reasons. Goals will come from others. Rice and Trent dictating play and controlling the game and running the tempo when in possession. Palmer and foden finding pockets of space on the edge of the area, which they are both insane in this area finding space Turning there man, play 1-2s and beating there man etc to get a shot off or create a chance. Stones picks himself, colwill is the best option to pare him with. He has way more legs than hg and we should be playing with a highline, so he will get caught out. The other centre backs with the speed needed just aren’t as good as colwill on the ball. Colwill is also younger than other options and imo better with more potential, so he should be growing into a England starting role now.
Really sick of the southgate hate now, acheived far morw than any england manager apart from sir alf ramsey whos the only manager to win us something. Southgate's the only manager who gets judged off the job he did at boro 10 years ago, completely disregarding how far england have come since getting knocked out by iceland in our last tournament before southgate took over.
He is a shocking manager who wouldn't get a PL job. His tactical understanding of games is non existant, he makes the wrong changes too late. In the Euros he shut up shop from 10mins in and we didnt have a single shot on target after the goal. WTF. I am fed up of fans saying "look at all the success he has brought" when *we havent had any success*, Losing is not sucess, winning a trophy is success. Gareth is too conservative, lacks balls and has zero personality to carry a team over the line. If we win the Euros it will be despite Southgate not because of him, I suspect it will be another golden generation spurned by him, and I just praying he does the honourable thing and resigns when we go out. 🙏
@deloford mate, weve won one international trophy in our history, southgate in every possible factor is the second best manager in the history of the national team, our last tournament before he took over we got knocked out by Iceland and before that we finished bottom of a world cup group. The fact you point out a failing in the final of a major tournament proves just how far he's taken england from where he started, also saying he wouldn't get a prem job is purely opinion, Hodgson has had multiple prem jobs after failing as England manager.
How is Bellingham only 20?! It’s madness. He’s going to be the best England player of all time. He’s dictating matches already and is so ahead of his years in maturity and understanding the game. Plus unlike some others in the past it appears he is of good mental health, may it stay that way, and is level headed. Football’s coming home suddenly became more true than it has since 1966. 🦁 🦁 🦁
if we don’t win it this time around southgate has blood on his hands. even if we do win it, southgate was still a meh manager for us, but at least he’ll have managed to fulfil this squads potential
Yes Bellingham chances everything but please don't get carried away because to win a tournament it's not only talent that's at play There's alot of factors injuries inclusive
Bellingham so far looks like he might be potentially even better for England than Gerrard etc it's hard to remember games were our past elite midfielders shone as brightly but maybe that coz we had Gerrard Scholes lamps in some side and none shone more than the other were Bellingham has more work man like rice and phillips next to him.
We all know players who somehow come out with the ball. My mind immediately went to Gerrard and Suarez. I love players like that. Absolute battlers, so much drive, nothing can stop them.
TRENT TRENT TRENT. Perfect for that double pivot with Rice. He’s come on miles over the last couple years in terms of his composure/mobility on the ball in those more dense areas. He can rotate out wide with Walker/James, and provides that real crucial creativity that Rice-Bellingham is slightly lacking. And he’s actually gonna provide defensive cover that you don’t get from Maddison, Foden or JWP.
Cutis Jones is so underrated, so solid defensively and in possession. Would fit perfectly in Philips role. Where we need someone to cover ground and make the simple progressive passes and runs.
Yes, all round ive never known a better squad of England players and hugely tournament experienced now. Just hope we can do what France and Spain managed 20 odd years ago and really establish themselves as winners
The majority of people moaning about the manager or playing down qualification aren’t old enough to remember McLaren, Hodgson or Taylor. We’re not always going to qualify like this, and we’re building towards a tournament win
for me when it comes to international tournaments the deciding factor for the teams that win it is often their psychology rather than the quality of players in the team. Of course quality helps a lot but without the correct team psychology the players can just appear lost. Argentina's World Cup win was driven by the teams spirit and desire, Italy in the euros didn't have the best team but their minds were glued together, France in the world cup 2018 would be an outlier however, but psychology and team mentality does seems to have such a large influence over the success of International teams. A point could be made about Brazil's recent troubles attributing to their lack of identify, as with England in the past. England's team mentality and togetherness at least in my eyes is better than I can ever remember so this can only be positive.
Good point about psychology. But I disagree with you about it being the overwhelming factor. I would further the point by saying that once a team reaches a minimum quality, then psychology becomes the slight difference maker. With teams of wildly differing quality, not so clear cut.
Thank you and yes I agree, that was the point I was trying to make: certainly when it comes to large disparities in quality that will be the difference maker, but psychology is more often the difference maker when it comes to who wins the tournament/goes far in it. At the top of international football, quality evidently doesn't seem to be the overwhelming factor regarding who is successful, as reinforced by the countless examples of international teams underperforming. Just from the eye test its clear when a national team are well spirited and glued together as they play much more cohesively and as a unit.@@Iron-Bridge
Sorry but I don't think we will, Southgate picks his favorite players on who knows what merit. It isn't form, or minutes player How Phillips and Maguire are in the team I will never know.
I like the optimism but France and Portugal still exist (and even the Netherlands, too). Never underestimate England and/or Southgate's ability to clutch victory from the jaws of defeat.
It's a skull, there's players who always come out with the ball... I felt that. As a Forest fan as soon as you said it Orel Mangala springs to mind. He's not flashy or fast... but you could put him in a phone box with Vinnie Jones and he's walking out with the ball attached to his right peg.
As an American I'm neutral and I can say without hesitation that only Southgate can stop England from winning the Euro's, and I believe that these players are good enough to still win despite Gareth provided the core key group is on the pitch
I'm old enough to remember when England even qualifying for tournaments wasn't a guarantee, and with Southgate it's always looked so easy. Are there better managers? Yeah, but they've got other club/country commitments right now, and with Southgate leading us to our second best result in England's history, he's earned enough stock to run us through another tournament or two.
The problem is, this England team relies on individual talent to get it through games. That works against teams with lesser players, but when you come up against another quality group with a well honed tactical system, England always falter. The talent England have is unquestionable. But we get through games on moments of individual brilliance, not well-drilled patterns of play. Then if the individuals don't click, we have nothing to fall back on.
The way England seem to be playing 4-2-3-1 now they should have a double pivot of Trent and rice. Rice covers the defensive aspects while allowing Trent to sit deeper and find the long balls to Rashford and saka while also being able to help our Walker on the right hand side. I think it’s a no brainer
Hopefully Bellingham isn't another Dele Ali!! I don't think he will as his dad was a footballer and been in professional football his whole life. Just hope people don't get carried away, remember he's not a Gazza, Scholes,or Gerrard. He's only had a few months of performing of the highest level as German league is not the highest just look at Sancho
every tournament it's the same speech but yet England NEVER EVER do anything in these international competitions.. so why would it be any different now lool 😂😂🙄🤦🏾♂️
Not sure, France remain strong, Portugal are getting better, and Germany will improve under their new manager and will have home advantage. Semi-finals for England I reckon. A big weakness I think will be Maguire. At some point not playing has got to catch up regarding match fitness. I'm a big Southgate man, but I have to confess that I'm now getting tired of it, Maguire needs to be phased out.
I think the key thing which makes me believe is to have a winning international side, you need to have a good spine from the goalkeeper towards the striker, If we're putting Pickford's reliability into the goalkeeping, Declan Rice is world class for a CDM, Jude Bellingham... there's not enough words to mention how good he is and Harry Kane being a record goal scorer for England. the rest of the team follows with the likes of Rashford, Foden, Trippier, Stones, and the list goes on as to how much quality is oozing in the squad. Is this our competition to lose?
I wasn't totally convinced by Rashford really, but options on the left are limited. That role, 3rd midfielder and 2nd centre back are the 3 areas that need the most work.
I reckon we could replace Kalvin Phillips with JWP easy. If you want a double pivot, ask John Stones to step up in possession and Trippier can stay back if you want 3 in defence. Suddenly it's a proper 8 going forward and not someone who hasn't played enough football almost getting sent off
I'm not jumping on the hate band wagon but I genuinely don't think we can win it with Southgate. His way of managing games when we are in the lead against top teams is poor. I just can't see him getting us over the line in the high pressure games. His in-game management in the euro 2020 final was shocking.
If he doesn't win the Euros.. Southgate is a bigger failure than Sven for me. This is the greatest crop of England players I have ever seen. World class players in almost every position. Southgate has been carried by this group of players. I'm sure he is a lovely guy but you can't win off of good vibes alone. The Italy team we played last night was missing so many of their starting 11. Sven's '''Golden generation'' had to compete with alot better international teams than we do right now. Who is our biggest threat? France?
Yeah remember when it was our time last Euro's because "Being at home will make all the difference! Its coming home!"...It never did and never does. England are the Spurs of international football, bottle it in the big games and have a good team capable of winning but are never the best team in the tournament.
I just don't think we can win anything if we continue starting players like Maguire and Phillips who aren't playing for their clubs. I'm not anti-either of them, they're both good, but clearly undercooked and not fit. If they don't start playing regularly for their clubs, which they won't, they cannot be relied on in a tournament.
only team that should be able to stop us now is france i always thought we'd win this tournament as southgate is our joachim low - a caretaker who got them close so many times and won it on the fourth - hope this won't age terribly
It's the fact they can batter Italy when they don't even play that well that encourages me. The best teams win even when they dont play well. It's worrying though as England will always be playing 50-60% potential with Southgate in charge.
The second goal was interesting. It raises the question of whether we could play Foden alongside Rice because he is the one player we have who can turn and release the ball quickly to turn defence into attack. Would be a monumental gamble defensively but could it work?
Yes but the wingers would need to step in and work harder defensively. Rashford just isn't that guy. Neither is Saka really. Bowen, Grealish. Could play maddison wide
Declan plays those passes only when he is 100% sure. Extremely cautious player, and if you watch it back Jude is basically telling him to give him the ball. Maddison or Trent are actually more inclined to take those risks regularly

It’s a shame Reece James can’t stay fit he’s the perfect mixture of wing back and defender type player. Some experiments at centre back must be done from now to summer, Dunk looked very solid against Scotland and Australia would’ve liked to see him play against italy.
The reason I subscribed to james’ channel🤩🤩🤩 england optimism is infectious
This must be the first time England players have either been "the guy" or at least key facilitators for the best teams in the world
Kane - "the guy" for Bayern
Bellingham - "the guy" for Real Madrid
Saka - "the guy" for Arsenal
Rashford - "the guy" for Man Utd
Foden and Grealish - key facilitators for the best team in the world
@w2l709 yeah that's fair. Stones and Walker as well
And Trent is still Liverpool’s main creative force
Maguire GOAT
Depending on the opponents we've got Phillips Ward-Prowse Trent Rico Lewis Gallagher and I think Jacob Ramsey could give this England team balance on the left of a midfield 3 if he has another good season at Villa
Ward Prowse or Trent imo
Great point on Bellingham coming out with the ball, he made it look so easy, would just go up to an Italy player and take it off them.
Utter bollocks this is more of a team effort than England have offered in recent years. Rivalries are put to the side. They enjoy it. It’s brilliant.
Anyone see how good Guehi was when he came on?
Yes me and my dad noticed he was everywhere
It’s not like Argentina and France didn’t have holes either. But they have top top players and a cohesive unit that can overcome those weaknesses
I would start Dunk instead of Maguire, and call up Dan Burn for LB. This will give me so much more confidence on the back 4 defensively.
Your players bottled it throughout the 2000's lol, easy out to blame it on the coach
@@nihlify even the best players will struggle to perform in a bad system/framework
Kane, Rice, Bellingham, Stones all world class and we have a lot of other quality options on the pitch also. We have every reason to be confident going in to the tournament.
Kane and Bellingham and tomori abroad is such a positive that's why if England is successful it will be that reason.
@@Nutter2396England Will Win this time
Great points on Bellingham. Looking forward to his brother Jobe play alongside him for England in the next few years.
For me its not about the squad or players picked. Its about tactics, style philosophy. Southgate is lacking. World class players may get him through but you wouldnt take southgate at qpr. Imagine if we had a proper experienced manager not a guy whos peak was mid at boro
Eddie Howe would do great
What has Southgate done tactically that is bad, his substitutions I can agree with are suspect but we’ve had better teams in the past who struggled to even get out the groups of world cups, Southgate is our most successful manager in almost 50 years and like it or not clearly knows how to play tournament football. It’s not exciting but it wins against tight opponents
@@lenl860 win against teams your better than but when you face good opponents lose
Bellingham is a Gerrard with a dash of Henry
Ill give you 3 reasons why it isn't... Harry Maguire, Kalvin Phillips & Jordan Henderson.
Injuries will probably doom us. EPL March-May in the current climate of player fatigue will see us lose some key players.
I still think France is gna win tbh, but they're definitely favourites . im excited but i'm not gonna get super gassed just because they beat an bad italy side
I want england to win euro 2024.Thats it.Love from India.
Pickford
James stones colwill Trent
Rice
Palmer Bellingham
Foden Kane Saka
I think this is our best starting 11, if everyone is fit come the tournament and if James manages to re-find his fitness he should be starting right back, he is so well rounded.
When we are in possession against a low block, it becomes.
Stones colwill
James Rice Trent Saka
Foden palmer
Kane Bellingham
Kane and Bellingham in the box to score the goals and be the main targets in the box, Bellingham can interchange with foden and palmer, he should have a free role when we have the ball, but he should be in the box as much as possible.James and Saka creating the width on either side putting in crosses and doing cut backs and being the extra person in the box when the ball is coming in from the other side.
Colwill is also younger than other options and imo better with more potential, so he should be growing into a England starting role now.
the team is different, the manager isn't tho
Love the content mate. Best Footee Analysis youtube channel out thereaa ...and ill 'die on that horse' 🐎 😆👌🤷♂️
Yes Bellingham chances everything but please don't get carried away because to win a tournament it's not only talent that's at play
There's alot of factors injuries inclusive
Bellingham so far looks like he might be potentially even better for England than Gerrard etc it's hard to remember games were our past elite midfielders shone as brightly but maybe that coz we had Gerrard Scholes lamps in some side and none shone more than the other were Bellingham has more work man like rice and phillips next to him.
We all know players who somehow come out with the ball. My mind immediately went to Gerrard and Suarez. I love players like that. Absolute battlers, so much drive, nothing can stop them.
I still cannot see England getting pass France.
their a chance we don’t see england vs france here why upsets happen an this tournament
Longstaff would be a menace in that midfield. Just my opinion, don’t get angry.

Love the Samism “die on that horse” 7:02 😂
Cutis Jones is so underrated, so solid defensively and in possession. Would fit perfectly in Philips role. Where we need someone to cover ground and make the simple progressive passes and runs.
Where was Kane playing? He seemed to be in midfield most of the time - would love to see his average position.
I completely agree mate, been feeling it coming and coming but it is now or never.
Alexa, play Back To The Future from "I've seen this one before, it's a classic"
"What if" Jiminez never got injured and Adama reached his potential? Wolves reach Europa League and build a Portuguese super team
Tripper has the most assists in the league that’s why he’s being picked, it’s insane to leave him out.
for me when it comes to international tournaments the deciding factor for the teams that win it is often their psychology rather than the quality of players in the team.
Gareth Southgate is going to die on the horse that is Maguire 😂 think it's die on that hill but on that horse sounded good lol
Kane, Saka, Bellingham, Rashford and Foden is too good to be true. Lack of midfield balance and defensive frailties will cost us
Sorry but I don't think we will, Southgate picks his favorite players on who knows what merit. It isn't form, or minutes player
How Phillips and Maguire are in the team I will never know.
Honestly.. not with Southgate... Get Pep to coach England and they will be World Cup contenders
As a french , first time we giving credit to an English team! .. Please give credit whre it's due: Mr SOUTHGATE
Can't wait for England to disappoint again lol
Great video James
Hopefully Bellingham isn't another Dele Ali!! I don't think he will as his dad was a footballer and been in professional football his whole life. Just hope people don't get carried away, remember he's not a Gazza, Scholes,or Gerrard. He's only had a few months of performing of the highest level as German league is not the highest just look at Sancho
Frances squad is as good as Englands if not better. they are our best enemy next year
every tournament it's the same speech but yet England NEVER EVER do anything in these international competitions.. so why would it be any different now lool 😂😂🙄🤦🏾♂️
Not only will England win euro, but arsenal/city CL and Liverpool Europa and Aston Villa Conference league
I know he didn't play but freaking saka mate, its coming right home buddy!
Bellingham has as much quality as Gazza/Rooney with the mentality of Gerrard/Keane, he's SO good
I wasn't totally convinced by Rashford really, but options on the left are limited. That role, 3rd midfielder and 2nd centre back are the 3 areas that need the most work.
Bellingham just has “it”. The only other player (in the new generation of players) who has that “it” is Mbappe. They’re just superstars and so special
I reckon we could replace Kalvin Phillips with JWP easy. If you want a double pivot, ask John Stones to step up in possession and Trippier can stay back if you want 3 in defence. Suddenly it's a proper 8 going forward and not someone who hasn't played enough football almost getting sent off
Despite Southgate not because of him
Cant blame him when we lose and give him no credit when we win lad, that's just childish.
Jude will be our next England captain and we will win the world cup with him
I'm not jumping on the hate band wagon but I genuinely don't think we can win it with Southgate. His way of managing games when we are in the lead against top teams is poor. I just can't see him getting us over the line in the high pressure games. His in-game management in the euro 2020 final was shocking.
Let's face it. We hear this it's coming home every two years. Having said that, this is a good team this time. (Coming from a Netherlands supporter.)
France?
It's "die on that hill" and "flog a dead horse" very appropriate mixed metaphor 😂
Trippier can get advice from Big Dan Burn how to keep Dembele quiet
Babe wake up new JLA video
Yeah remember when it was our time last Euro's because "Being at home will make all the difference! Its coming home!"...It never did and never does. England are the Spurs of international football, bottle it in the big games and have a good team capable of winning but are never the best team in the tournament.
I just don't think we can win anything if we continue starting players like Maguire and Phillips who aren't playing for their clubs. I'm not anti-either of them, they're both good, but clearly undercooked and not fit. If they don't start playing regularly for their clubs, which they won't, they cannot be relied on in a tournament.
Die on that horse instead of die on that hill was class 😂
only team that should be able to stop us now is france i always thought we'd win this tournament as southgate is our joachim low - a caretaker who got them close so many times and won it on the fourth - hope this won't age terribly
Not without a different manager, one that can manage a crucial game and not sit on his hands.
People can't understand that he doesn't drop players as he has created a "team" which we never were when we had much better player's
Big Samism there Jim. "Are you backing that hill" too😂
It's the fact they can batter Italy when they don't even play that well that encourages me.
