Can we just stop think about the fact that Salah is in a top 10 list of scorers at Old Trafford since 2021? An arena he plays at once a season. That is the most ridicolous statsitic I have ever seen.
Bro let’s not forget the fact tht Utd have been awful in tht time due to poor ownership which has led to the massive drop since fergies era had we been run like a proper football club we wouldn’t be so far behind but ineos have given me a lil hope although yesterday was a massive eye opener although we was poor and think Liverpool fans saying they battered us is mad exaggerated they only scored off our mistakes and don’t get me wrong they deserved to win no doubt but we was our own worst enemies yet again yesterday😢😅
We knew how good Gravenberch is at receiving the ball on the half turn and then driving with it, Vieira/Yaya Toure esque you could say🙄😁. But its the rest of his game thats blown me away, his ball winning and ball playing is improving drastically each game. What a talent.
On the first goal, an underrated bit of it is jota pointing to the back post to Diaz and Szoboszlai, then making the run front post dragging the defenders, then shouting at Salah and pointing over his head at the back post. Such an intelligent footballer!
In the build up to the first goal, you can see Jota directing Diaz to the back post and then telling Salah to cross it there. Jota's link up and work rate was amazing this game.
I was saying last season that Gravenberch might be the player in EPL I would least want to press. Not only does he have one of the better first touches in the league, but his first touch is often clever and leaves the opposition player for dead. He is a natural 6 for Slot in possession.
Salah always had very high creative output. I think you need to watch compilation of last year's Salah passes to Darwin, he should have had 25 assists of this kind last year. I think he used to be a provider for Dezko in Roma.
the Liverpool front 3 is just too intelligent and experienced for even the most minor mistakes. time and time again this group has punished defenses for stuff like this. way too good
As a United fan, I agree with your positivity towards United. Despite only being on 3 points and two losses already, I genuinely believe that we've looked better in many ways compared to last season. And that's with 4+ important players out missing (Hojlund, Shaw, Mount, Ugarte), and playing against a good Brighton side and a great Liverpool team that's unquestionably better than we are. Unfortunately, the United fanbase is one of the most reactionary fanbases in the world and also has incredibly delusional expectations, and the media won't hesitate to jump on the manager at any opportunity either to make things as toxic as possible. 3 games in and people are already calling for the manager's head; it's madness. Most United fans understand that we're in a multi-year rebuild with Ineos but they simultaneously want immediate results. All that said, if we lose to Southampton, Barnsley, and/or Palace, it'll be really hard to defend ETH any longer. lol
You have to be realistic, you cant always have a fully fit 11 everytime, its impossible. Fact is yesterday we saw a team mostly of ETH players and we still looked clueless
Great video. I like how you sensibly and logically point out the good and bad and don't over react. In reality most folk over hype how good a winning performance is and overdo criticism of a losing performance. A true evaluation of a performance is usually not as extreme as most commentators/fans would suggest. Having said that, Liverpool were exceptional in this game. Salah and Diaz were fantastic, but like you, this was the game where I really appreciated how good a player Gravenberch is. It took a while for Szoboszlai to settle in and show how good he is, and now Gravenberch is doing the same. With MacAllister, they are forming a very strong midfield that could really put Liverpool in contention for the title. It's going to be a great battle this year between City, Arsenal Liverpool (and Brighton?) 😊
As an avid Ajax fan, I am glad someone spotted just how well Gravenberg has been playing these last few games. Reminiscent of his days in Amsterdam. I believe Arne Slot can get the absolute best out of him.
love the analysis. this livepool team feels and looks like slots team. i was afraid that losing klop we will have a difficult time adjusting but this makes me fall in love with our players all over again coz shows the level of professionalism of the players, the level of competitiveness the players have and the drive to win they have. i know its early and we will be tested by better teams. but from wat i see we can be challenge for the title again. now the thing troubling me is our lack of depth. hope everyone can stay fit and we can figure out a good rotation to keep everyone fresh and ready to compete.
I didn't notice this at first, but Jota's runs in each goal are elite. He may not have scored a goal, but he was just as vital to the goals as Salah and Diaz.
The thing we forget about LFC is the amount of key injuries they had last year yet still were in the title race. Key injuries to key players, chopping and changing for almost half the season yet Klopp still had them atop the PL w/ weeks to go until it all accumulated & they finally fell off. Just saying… pretty dangerous team.
Yeah we had insane injuries, but it was solely down to our finishing that let us down as we had incredible academy talents come through to get us through the injury crisis
I disagree on a couple points. The reason Casemiro makes the bad pass is mostly because everyone is bombing forward with their backs to the ball, there's noone giving him the option of a short safe pass, he had to take a touch and pass it sideways or risk a forward hollywood pass. That is systemic, it's not just an individual error. It's the manager's job to hide the weaknesses of his players, not expose them and make the players prone to making mistakes. The second thing I disagree, big chances are not just shots on goal. United did NOT have as many big chances as Liverpool, they had two Zirkzee chances. Besides the goals, Liverpool had a big chance seconds after the 3rd goal by Salah, another big chance from Szoboszlai where he made a mess of it and another by Jota which he also made a mess of and was saved by a last ditch tackle by Martinez. And let's not even mention the marginally disallowed goal which was really lucky from United's point of view. It could easily have been 4 or 5 nil and deep down, we all know it.
Top stuff as always Jim - Grav, Diaz and Salah showered in praise and rightfully so but other cogs so important to let them shine as well: Macca, Szobo, Jota all played their roles perfectly 😮💨
Liverpool can’t be Manchester United’s bogey team. It’s literally the one team that the club should NOT be letting be the bogey team for the manager. As a Liverpool supporter, if we got smacked my United every time like we smack them, I would be calling for the manager’s head. The rivalry is too fierce, it’s more important than any other fixture. Also, I think more credit needs to go to Salah’s playmaking for a few seasons now, not just in this Slot system. He’s lost some of his lightning pace since 29/30 and has had more of an excuse to show his creativity off
Would love the Liverpool analysis, I’m biased as a fan but your analysis on this game was very intricate and you’ve had a more open approach to the way you analysed it which I appreciate
I’m so confused with ETH, James. Like you said, it was okay at the start and there were positives. But there are inherent tactical set ups that we see every week, with no change. Our FBs and 8s push up really high to support the press. But our No 6 and CBs don’t squeeze so we STILL leave massive gaps in the middle, your screenshots prove it. The demands we place on our No 6 to cover massive amounts of space are so so high. ETH stresses the need for a FDJ style player and this need to depend so heavily on a ‘super specific profile of player’ worries me. Ditto with the press with Mason Mount. If a single player is so integral to the system, then it’s not a good system. There’s no principles of play or identity that any given XI will stick with and execute. I really *want* it to work but after three years with so many signings, I’m struggling to see improvement. I don’t need trophies per se, I want progress. Long long season ahead.
He relies too much on the back 3/4 for ball progression and buildup. Unless they're PERFECT in breaking lines and carrying the ball we are heavily exposed to a counter-press
Casemiro had a real stinker not even a question. I don't like how open we are but there is a clear difference in performance just look at the stats on the first few games compared to any three games last season. Someone who isn't being called out who I think should be for the 1st and 3rd goal is Onana. If you freeze frame it for Salahs cross hes covering his front post for no reason, de ligt and martinez were covering that if he was in the center of his goal he catches that cross. The 3rd is tough cause its Mo Salah with 10 yards of space on the edge of the box but his starting position was atrocious and the shot didn't even go in the corner. All in all it was a bad day marred by our own errors that needs to quickly forgotten by the players and staff.
Ten Hag's 'mistake' was trying to go toe to toe with them. Personally I would rather a Man Utd manager show ambition and lose, than crawl into our shells at home, so I don't mind Ten Hag's bravery. You can do all the analysis, but realistically our only chance was if they played bad, we can't match players like Salah if they turn up, and ours don't. Liverpool are simply a much better team than us, with years of continuity from one of the best managers of the past decade. That counts for a lot.
Agreed. A big club cannot be playing for one point at home. I would say that you have to be in incredibly good form to play Liverpool (or Man City) with a high press, and Slot's tactics are designed to punish teams that try. I think it would be wiser to concede more space for the sake of compactness and go with midblock.
Penandez stayed in the attacking third total missing defensively, waving his arms about at the defensive failures. Thats captain material. Left Gashamiro and Mainoo outnumbered, so late to the challenge, stretched all the time, no time on the ball. Szobozlie box too box engine, in comparison.
His first thought touch is always forward, we all thought this is what Keita is capable of. Henderson, Gini, Fabinho, Millner, Ox non were able to do it.

Great analysis and video mate! change your transitions. make the images fade into the next instead of a slide effect. It throws off the viewer's focus on the bit you're analyzing. would appreciate if you consider my comment.
Can't disagree with anything in this video. BUT. The difference between the two goalkeepers was starkly evident. If Alisson is slightly less brilliant and Onana comes away from his goal line a bit more when there's a threat: in other words, if Alisson lets one in and Onana stops one, it's a much closer game. (Glimpse of the bleeding obvious, maybe, but I think the difference between their performances hasn't been explored enough across all analysis of this game.)
Yeah Onana never really saves United or helps them hold on in games that they’re under significant pressure the way De Gea could or Allison does for Liverpool. He’s not effective enough at ball playing to justify his inability to save in important situations like Ederson is.
we were very good yesterday, salah is unbelievable, i don’t think united were as bad as they were made out to be and looked threatening at times. let’s not go over the top on either liverpool or united.
As a United fan, I agree. You guys pressed very well and forced mistakes (many that shouldn't happen even with a good press...) and were very clinical with the relatively few chances you created. But yeah, had Zirkzee scored that header or the other cross, the game could've ended much differently. No doubt you guys played far better and are a much better team with a much more concrete identity/mentality, but people (mostly United fans) are being way too reactionary about United imo.
The real test is Arsenal and City , Slot faced an tactically inept united side, the two errors from Casemiro were shocking though and the whole structure fell through its a*s , they chased Ugarte for the last 6 weeks to ultimately be a replacement for Casemiro but left it to the last day of the transfer window to complete the signing and couldn't register him in time to play against Liverpool (Mounts pressing would of helped but hes another problem with his injuries ). If united were serious they would have got him in first straight after the Copa America , Also heard quotes from ETH that Ugarte may need weeks or months to be integrated into the side (I have so many questions about that too ). Ineos wont sack ETH before xmas as the optics would make them look incompetent (having SJR come out and sad that they best possible manager for united ,having opening interview other managers and extended his contract ) . Also I have to add that Fred was a underrated partner to Casemiro in case first season he was there player that cleaned up after case and had the energy to press that allow case to make more risky progressive passes knowing that Fred is his insurance policy if it goes wrong . We saw last season why Fred was actually more important than most thought. The only hope now is that Ugarte who has similar energy levels and better defensive numbers and ability will fill in that area of midfield .
Dom should have had two goals today. I’m not sure what’s going on in the brain of his but Slot needs to tell that boy to shoot the damn ball. He was in every right spot in the game.
Can we just stop think about the fact that Salah is in a top 10 list of scorers at Old Trafford since 2021? An arena he plays at once a season. That is the most ridicolous statsitic I have ever seen.

It’s okay to give Liverpool credit lol

Dom should have had two goals today. I’m not sure what’s going on in the brain of his but Slot needs to tell that boy to shoot the damn ball. He was in every right spot in the game.
