  • I've been around the block with the various places to get OEM parts for my Toyota Celsior (Lexus LS400) restoration project and some I recommend highly and other I don't. In this video I'm going to walk you through the detailed list of all the parts I got and from where, as well as my thoughts on each of the sources themselves.

Thanks for taking the time and making these videos. I have a 95 LS400. I've gotten most of the front suspension parts, but I haven't had a chance to start because it's had to go to mechanic for valve cover gaskets. Then it went back because she sprung another leak, this time it was somewhere behind the timing belt. The timing belt showed up on the service records as being done shortly before I bought the vehicle, but since there was no sticker, and no record of the waterpump being replaced, I decided to have the mechanic change it since he was in there. I also had them put in a new starter (which wasn't bad, but it was original and they were already in there). Also had a bad knock sensor which was right in front of the starter. Luckily, they spotted a couple of cracks in the original radiator while they doing the work and replaced it.
The point is, regardless of how reliable these vehicles are, they are expensive to maintain because at the end of the day, they are 28 years old and things happen. It does not help that parts are getting harder and harder to find. Do I regret my purchase? Absolutely not. Runs and drives perfect, no squeaks or rattles. Every time I stop at a gas station or service plaza, the compliments start flying. From nostalgia moments, to the " I've always wanted one", and the "any chance you'll be selling it?". But the thing I hear most often is, "I had one, and to this day, I regret ever selling it." That is one mistake I won't be making. It truly is a great car, and luckily, it's my 2nd vehicle, so I'm not without transportation when she may need some work here or there.
BTW, thanks for the alternator upgrade tip. I'll be doing that one in the future too.

Yep, there are certainly cheaper cars to own but, like you said, you won't get this level of quality and comfort from any other 25+ year old car

Thanks for this useful information. With your information you shared with me a while back, I have placed a few orders from Amayama for my 2002 LS 430. Interestingly, they shipped gas shocks for me from Japan. Perhaps the regulations are different between the US and Canada, where I am based. A great thing about ordering parts from this source is that most parts are 2-3 times cheaper than they are at the dealerships in Canada.

Hey I watched all your Celsior videos. Thank you for sharing these projects. I’m in the process of getting the suspension parts for my car and I’m going to get the OEM shocks 😬 (hopefully worth it lol) Do you think changing out the suspension coil springs would have any benefit to the ride?

I just ordered a few parts from Amayama recently and although they take a little bit longer than other websites, their prices seem like 40% cheaper for OEM parts. Definitely worth it in my opinion
