Have a 2018 Heritage with 107. The first problem I had was a compensater. Put a Dark Horse Man-O-War compensater. Then, the main drive bearing went out, so I had a Baker transmission put in with a taller 5th and 6th gear. I'm more than happy with. Can be doing 85mph down the highway with my wife on the back and turning just under 2800rpms
I bought a 2021 road king standard. It has the 107 of course and I couldn’t be happier. I ride somewhat hard, not extreme, but it has performed beautifully. It runs a little hot on your legs, but it is an oil cooled engine. I am in love with it. I wouldn’t change it for the world. It has more power than I could ever use at 1500+ cc’s and I’m leaving it just the way it is. I may do some comfort upgrades and perhaps headers because I want to get rid of the catalytic converter but that’s it. I put 6000+ miles on it the first year and it’s been perfect. Love my road king
I'm thrilled with my 2017 RoadGlide Ultra in general and the Milwaukee 8 specifically. I have only had it 10 months and 10,000 miles but it's leaps and bounds better then the 2015 Ultra Limited I had. I've left it stock and it's a reliable powerhouse. I have had the Primary vent installed and change all 3 fluids every 5 thousand miles. All Syn3 fluids with the gear oil for the primary and transmission. I'm loving it and gonna keep it around. Great video HDR. Ride safe.
I just had my 96 CI swapped out for a 103 stage 4. While the top end was torn down I got a phone call from the machanic telling me I needed to rebuild my tranny too. At first I cringed becuase if the cost but after watching this video and adding the extra power and torque, I'm an very very glad I did! The power now is amazing! I wanted to get a RG but the one I was looking at was 34k. The upgrades ran me 8400. Much better financial decision. Great video. Still would love a RG someday. I have an 09 ultra, frame has 125k. Engine, about a 1000 miles.
HDR I really think you hit the nail on the head, leave the m8 alone I have 24000 on my 17sgs reg maintenance myself and it runs smooth and I’ve heard guys that start adding stages start having problems!! Good video!!!!
Thanks Rick! I have called a few times to get a Stage 2 and people say leave it a lone and it will run better. Good to hear you bike is still running top notch. Ride Safe
Like Broncoride, I have a 17 M8, Superior Blue as well. My son built the motor to Stage 4, I just couldn't pass up the deal that saved me a lot of money. The only issue I've had was the sumping trans fluid to the primary. My son did the HD fix and corrected that problem. Other than that, the only thing I had to get used to was the performance and power increase....she's a rocket!!
Lawd have mercy she does!! I'm gonna be making the 365 mile ride up to Kentucky so he can do the 25K service which includes neck bearing servicing. Gotta say it's handy to have a son that's a HD Master Tech.
I have a Kawasaki, but it's good to hear and learn new things and considering that I'm always surrounded by HD owners, this gives me insight into their engines. Thanks for posting.
I had to stage one and then the stage two done by my dealer using all the screaming eagle stuff. The Harley Davidson cam is fairly mild compared to the others on the market. It gives a nice boost and torque and does not increase your compression it increases the time your valves are open and closed. If you go to a more aggressive cam it’s probably a good idea two put heavy duty valve springs on as the valves will be open longer putting additional strain on the springs. As far as the oil sump issues the oil pump upgrade is a good idea. In 19 they added a vent which worked , but not as well as the oil pump other options are the dipstick vent or transmission cover vent. The constant for people that have issues seem to be high RPMs over a long duration. Some will check the oil and see it’s low and add oil which makes it worse.
Just had my 2020 Limited in for its 20K. I love the M8 114! Just pure power and pulls through all the rpm range. My only "complaint" is that it is a bit noisy (mechanical ). But I have found my buddies with the 114 sound the same, so it's normal. Anyway on to the next 20!
My wife and I traded our 2010 Heritage Stage II 96 inch one year ago and moved to the M8 114 Tri Glide. I did stage I on the trike, got rid of the Cat and put a SE air box on it and the 114 is one powerful engine. Runs so smooth and will haul ass. All three holes now have AMSOIL, the best.
I have a 17 M8, where all the issues have seem to have happened. I haven’t had any issues and I put a stage 3 on it. Knock on chrome. I enjoy the ride for sure.
The M8 is a big part of why I chose Harley when I went for a new ride. Some 2018's and 2019's still had the sumping issue, it was corrected with the 2020's. Has for longevity...I ride with a guy who has a 2018 ultra...has of last weekend he had 98,000km (about 61,000mi) he had an issue with the sumping...but other then that...trouble free!....maintenance is the key...if your maintenance is crap....your bike will likely be crap!...great video...stay safe...ride safe!!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
Nice review. I have a '21 M8. Only put on 1200 miles so far, so I have a ways to go to see how its going to be. I keep going back n forth, with keeping stock or going Stage 1 or Stage 2. Haven't decided. I came from an '01 Twin Cam 88, re-jetted the carb and threw on some slips on's that I de-baffled. Easy Peasy. So the M8 is new to me, the need to stay with Screaming Eagle to keep warranty or keep stack till after warranty expires, then go with aftermarket stages? Time will tell. Anyway, keep up the good videos. Thank you.
I have a 2019 M8 and I highly recommend both stage one and two. It really wakes up the motor yet keeps it in warranty and I feel yet safe for the long haul. The Torque cam is so nice and just the lift the bike needs.
I would say I love the 114 stock but a stage 1 will give you more response. It’s all about how much money we want to spend on the bikes and what we think we need? Ride Safe
I have heard the same thing about stage 2 or higher is increasing your odds in having problems. I really like the 114 and think I'll keep it stock......for now😁
Great 20k review. I’ve got a lot of miles to put down to catch up with with you. Thanks for the recommendation for Baxter’s Garage. I’ll check out the channel. Well done sir!
HDR, Just had my 30K maintenance, (knock on wood, no issues) on my 2017 Ultra Limited. I’m not a mechanic but have done 2 oil changes..😂. So far so good. Basically I just care if the darn thing works if I keep it maintained. In fact, I’m surprised I passed you in miles… I’m a cyclist as well so I do bike and motorcycle outings, sometimes on the same day. Makes it tough for Saturday’s. Thank you for the ride alongs. #KeepRolling
Yes you did pass me on mileage! I don't think I will make 30,000 until late next year. I also maintain my bike and I just take my time never rush it. Ride Safe
@@HarleyDayRider Next month is my 4th anniversary with the bike so I’ve only avg. 7,500 mile per year. I’ll get half of it on a trip I’m taking Monday.. This MI weather 🌧 ❄️😂 #RideSafe
I wished my 17' Rgu was reliable..but the oil migration from trans to primary..amongst other problems..(stock)..needless to say I owned it for only 10 mos..no one had an answer at the time ..just speculation..basically lost all confidence in the product..glad ur is working out..Ride Safe
6000 problem free miles so far. I have the 114 and the only thing I have done is a new air cleaner. I did read a lot about it before making the decision. Nice to hear it should be good for lots of miles. Thanks for sharing.
The only thing I have done to my m8 107 Street glide is higher flow air intake with a breather system and higher flow reusable flo oil filter. I do plan to an oil filter relocation kit and an addition oil cooler. I only Care for reliability mods because it is my daily.
Unless you own a Victory, then the Freedom 106 can be built to over 250hp before having to do any reinforcements or upgrades to the power train or bottom-end
@@HarleyDayRider Last time I had it dyno'd(after I installed cams) it pulled 112hp/113tq which really isn't that impressive anymore for a bagger but I feel it is has much as I want to go with the stock brakes and suspension. These touring bikes are not designed to be performance bike. Getting into big hp #'s requires upgraded brakes and handling.
Like you I am enjoying my stock motor but mine is the103ci. Was at HD dealer yesterday looking at the 2021 SGS 114ci but just can’t justify or at least not yet.
Great info. I’m still on my VTWIN with 35K and hoping to get 100k. I have heard about the issues you mentioned but only if the stages were applied. Take care 🤙
Interesting perspective. Always makes me wonder about HD engines. I do think the more you tinker with the internal parts the more problems you will have. Let’s face it a V twin isn’t really a high performance engine, either is the flat 6 in my Goldwing.
I finally got my internet up and running so I am catching up on watching and uploading videos. I'm sure the M8s will last as long as the Evos and Twin Cams. Watch out for the deer! Don't want any mishaps.
My 2017 Road Glide Ultra with the Stage 1 has 34 thousand miles. My couch on two wheels has been problem free. There is a video I saw Amsoil vs Syn3 in a ball bearing scuff test under extreme temperatures. Amsoil won. I use Amsoil in mine. Speaking of Baxter’s garage. He did a video on oils. He swears by Amsoil
I’m my opinion if you want to truly test the longevity of a Harley engine I say leave bike complete stock and do your maintenance at its interval and see how far you can get. My theory is all these stage upgrades cause complications with the engine.
Great video. Stay away from Haley stage kits and SE components. Is my opinion and experience they are not as good as the aftermarket with a well knowledged builder.
2021 SportGlide 107 with Stage 1. 22,000miles from new and absolutely bulletproof 100% reliability. 👍😎
O really like the Sport Glide. These bikes will run forever if you treat them right. Thanks for watching.
