  • If the Big 12 Conference sold naming rights and became the Allstate 12, it would signify a groundbreaking shift in college athletics, blending traditional sports culture with modern commercial dynamics. The rebranding would bring numerous changes, both financially and culturally, affecting the conference's identity, operations, and broader perception.
    Financial Benefits
Selling naming rights to Allstate would provide a significant financial boost to the conference. This influx of revenue could be utilized to enhance athletic facilities, increase scholarships, and improve overall athletic and academic resources for member institutions. The additional funds could also support initiatives aimed at athlete welfare, including mental health programs, career development services, and enhanced medical care. Such financial stability would help the Big 12 schools remain competitive with the SEC and Big Ten, which often have larger budgets.
    Marketing and Branding
The partnership with a major corporate entity like Allstate would elevate the Big 12's national profile. Enhanced marketing efforts and increased visibility through Allstate’s advertising channels could attract a broader audience and boost viewership for Big 12 games. The rebranding could also lead to innovative promotional campaigns and fan engagement strategies, making the Allstate 12 a more recognizable and influential brand in college sports.
    Cultural and Fan Perception
While the financial benefits are clear, the cultural impact on the conference’s identity would be profound. Traditionalists might view the commercialization as a departure from the spirit of college sports, where historical names and legacies play a significant role. The name "Allstate 12" could initially be met with resistance from fans who cherish the conference’s heritage. Over time, however, effective branding and community engagement initiatives could help integrate the new identity, emphasizing the positive impacts of the partnership.
    Operational Changes
Operationally, the Allstate partnership might lead to increased corporate influence in decision-making processes, potentially affecting everything from scheduling to event management. While this could bring about professional enhancements in these areas, it might also raise concerns about maintaining the autonomy and academic integrity of member institutions.
    Conclusion
In summary, if the Big 12 sold naming rights and became the Allstate 12, the conference would experience substantial financial gains and elevated national visibility. The rebranding would bring both opportunities and challenges, blending commercial interests with traditional values. The success of this transformation would depend on balancing financial benefits with preserving the cultural essence that defines college sports.

Our league used to be the Big 6 Conference, the Big 8 Conference, now we are the Big 12 Conference. Who cares what our Conference name is!!!

Spencer- there is no way the ACC will survive without FSU, let alone without both FSU and Clemson. The revenue gap between the big 12 and ACC would be enormous. $15 mill difference. If FSU leaves that’s 5mill a year lower for each school. if Clemson leaves $3 mill a year per school less. That’s $8 million difference immediately because no one AcC adds to back fill would would add value. Then the other AcC schools would leave, and add value to the Big 12. If 4 ACC teams go to the Big 12 they add $4-10 mill to the Bjg 12 value. So the gap would be 8 mill+ 4-10 mill. It’d be a 12-18 million immediate difference for teams like VT, NCState, Louisville and Miami to jump to the Big 12 instead of staying in the dying ACC.

Yormark is a genius if he takes 1/2billion naming rights for 6 years (until next media deal) and 1 billion from the private equity firm you just added 15million per school per ea of the next six years so some of those big names from the ACC might look at jumping on board rather than competing in the tougher conferences and taking a chance at becoming irrelevant

The only way I would accept this happening is if Dick's Sporting Goods is the Sponsor. Who wouldnt want to join the Big Dicks Conference?

This is how I felt when they started changing the names of the bowl games. Citrus Bowl became the Capital One Bowl, Allstate Sugar Bowl, etc.

The backyard brawl in 2022 sold out the steelers stadium 70k people had 3.15 million viewers and was the most watched thursday night game in 5 years. The 2023 game sold out Mountaineer field and had 2.41 million viewers. It was the 106 edition of the game. WVU has more all time wins than any other Big 12 program and its not even close. The Mountaineers are ranked 15th in all time wins. your right no one cares.

Unless it's the Allstate Big 12 conference, that one I may want them to say no to. But the other major Private Equity deal I read about on CBS Sports with CVC Capital Partners in Luxembourg, which you have not talked about is a lot bigger. A deal of 800 million to 1 Billion for a 15 to 20 percent share of the conference could push the per team average to over 60 million. Brett had a prior relationship with them. That is bigger than the Allstate deal but added to the CVC deal it would close the gap and could be incentive for FSU/Clemson to consider the big 12 if they think they have a better chance of winning the conference than they do in the SEC/BIG10

And next is private equity for individual teams. It's always amazed me that there are people out there who will donate tens of thousands and even millions just to win games. Pretty soon they're going to be wanting a piece of the action.

As a fan whose team joined the BIG12 recently, I think anything the BIG12 can to do to distance its name from the BIG10 is a win.

I love the idea of this. We are so far behind and we need to be creative to get ahead. The Big Ten and SEC will mock it for a couple years then probably join in too. This helps us to catch up. Then take the equity money and take a couple of the big risks. Get some kind of media deal to be the product on in Mexico and Europe and play some games around. Find a way to get ahead of others

Just need to say it. Spencer talked so much trash about the Big12 before the PAC fell apart. We do not like him.
