      You know this is some amazing frickin advice! I am an ex-Army and 212th MI Battalion down at Ft. Gordon, which is Cybercom. I have run into a similar set of problems ever since getting out, and a lot of veteran buddies are in the same boat. I got so frustrated trying anything to get to the bootstrap solution you just gave. Veterans helping veterans, right? It plays into your selling something. What is the first rule of sales? Believe in your product. The second rule is to know who your customer is and adapt accordingly.
      You have definitely got a new subscription and a new stream of juicy likes revenues coming from my direction! Thank you for your service..in the military and here as well!
      Have a great day!

    Just curious when you were working inTurkey, was this with a defense contractor and did you need a security clearance and did you get uplift?
    I worked in Afghanistan , twice, and uplift made the salary almost double, than it would be in the states.

    This pretty much proves that I.T job titles often don't match up to the role and job duties you perform. Job titles in I.T are notorious for being ambiguous. That is why the so called Network and Sysadmins roles in weren't trying Network/Sysadmins roles but Help Desk roles with the admin tittle.

    I agree with you to appoint, but I will say I have seen multiple people Do an amazing job and their particular field and when they tried to move up, the company management told them they are too good to lose in that job so they promoted other people who did less to the job and the only way they moved up was by jumping to another job so I would say be careful at how you do your job to make sure that you don’t put yourself in the box. You’re too good to lose that specific spot because then you’ll never get promoted anyway.

    When I left the military I got a Helpdesk job at a Supply Company. Was promoted to Cyber Security Analyst after 1 year making 45k a year. I've been out 5 years, and those numbers sound amazing to me. In doing so my security clearance expired, am I basically screwed out of getting any kind of federal contracting job that offers those kinds of salaries? What would be the best move for me? I feel like 45k is not great for someone with 11 years of experience in IT.

    Hi Nicole! I’m hoping if you can give me some advice. I am in help desk and have been for 4 years. Basically taking calls all day for log in issues, app issues, and doing tickets. I’m planning to go to WGU but stuck between cyber security and cloud computing. I am very interested in both and was wondering if you think I have a better chance at getting a cyber security or a cloud computing job with the experience I have? Also, I wanna get the ball rolling and start my career started ASAP so do you know which degree would be the fastest to get? Thank you in advance!

    • @nicoleenesse
      @nicoleenesse  11 місяців тому +4

      That is so dependent on what you want to do! If I would start over, I would go with cloud but because you already have IT experience maybe security. You don't need a degree to start your career maybe a little bit change in your messaging to recruiters/employers . Also, maybe figure out the specific job you want as " cloud and cybersecurity" are both very vague words

It also helps that I found the info interesting. I haven't started applying to jobs yet tho, so I can't speak on the job search stuff.

  • @agexien
    @agexien 11 місяців тому +6

    No offense, but it's so adorable to hear you speak about a mercenary spirit and how you were through with it while both the thumbnail and title of your video scream otherwise. For one, I considered a career in IT/cybersecurity as I'm very analytical and even got certified. However, this field seems so dull and uninspiring that every relevant rejection I received from employers felt like a blessing. Honestly, I don't know what people see in this area other than money. I know that I probably won't see a six-figure income, like ever, but I feel slightly vindicated because my work directly impacts people's lives. And if you think about it, earning six figures is WAY too much for just one person. Would one pickle this money and take them to one's grave? I'm not saying that your path is wrong in any way, but I've been following your channel for quite a while because it touches on one of the biggest trends in the working world, yet I never heard your reasoning for pursuing this career other than it's trendy and pays well. I mean, you did mention somewhere that you personally enjoy art or traveling, if I'm not mistaken, which implies that you do have a soul. So, why cybersecurity then, if it's not out of a mercenary spirit?

    • @nicoleenesse

      @@nicoleenesse I did watch that video (this is where I picked up on your interests in art and travel), and I do find your approach to finding a career path reasonable. However, this new video totally undermines the ideas of following your feelings and no waste, as now you emphasize money/status (what if someone does enjoy doing an entry-level helpdesk job VS cybersecurity even if it pays less?) and question your previous choices by hypothesizing how you could have gotten there quicker, which implies that there was a waste on your path that you now regret. I'm fine with whatever philosophy you preach as long as you're consistent with it.
