What you didn't witness on this video is the moment when her coffin went out the gates of the palace, it was so quiet then you suddenly hear at least 2 women wailing. It still gives me shivers to this day.
Flying the flag half mast has been a tradition in the UK for many many years, the commentator was referring to the specific flag above Buckingham Palace, the Union Flag is usually flown to signify the Queen being away...the Royal Standard is flown when she was home...to have the flag lowered to half mast for someone other than the monarch is extremely rare.
Until 1997 the only flag to fly from Buckingham Palace was the Royal Standard which is never flown at half mast. Only since her death do you see the union flag fly at Buckingham palace
Half mast origins: Quote: "Many historians point to a British expedition to Canada in 1612 aboard the ship Heart's Ease. The captain, James Hall, was killed by an Inuit spear, and the crew lowered the ship's flag to half-mast". Perhaps this is the first recorded half mast? Although, pirates had many such unwritten rules & flags were very much a part of their sea lives. Although the Royal navy also has had such a long history, perhaps it does stem from there?
People were VERY angry at the paperazi and newspapers in general. It came out recently that editors launched a campaign to turn the attention away from themselves onto the Queen and demand to know why she was still in Balmoral (looking after the boys). Then they quibbled about why the Queen wasn't in London, how cold she was towards Diana then, finally, that the flag wasn't being flown at half mast ... when the family wasn't there. The anger towards the Queen grew, but people stopped being angry at the newspapers - so it was a win for them.
I am so angry at the paparazzi that I have left a message under the Instagram account of one of the French photographers in the tunnel. It was a link to his mugshot (he was arrested by French police after the crash... )
You will see Prince Harry in interviews saying that he didn't want to walk behind her coffin. He was 12 and had to hold in all his emotions. It all became part of his wild behavior in his 20s.
Hey Ryan, watch the Earl Spencer speech for his late Sister Princess Diana and see the crowds reaction. This was a great tragedy for the World and she certainly left a legacy.
Is on the right of the outline of her, in the memorial of Diana at Althorp (she's buried on the island in the lake). With a message from Diana on the opposite side, she made at some point in her life.
I remember watching it live on TV. I cried a lot that day. I still couldn't believe she was gone. That handwritten note made me cry harder when I saw it on her coffin. Sir Elton John's song "Like a candle in the wind" was beautiful. 😢😭💮🌼🌹👑🕯
I still remember it. I was 17 at the time. 1 thing that always stuck with me was when they where taking the coffin at the start of the funeral procession, and all you could hear was anguished sobs and people calling for Diana.
It's kind of interesting the impact this event had on the Queen. For the first time in a long time the public was outraged at a sitting monarch. I remember it well, almost everyone was in agreement that her response to Diana's death was insulting, cold, and utterly disrespectful. No doubt a lot of that was caused by lack of communication, she probably was grieving in her own way, but the public perception was that she didn't give a sht, and considering Diana was the most loved of all the royals it led to a tidal wave of anger. It wasn't just the Queen, Charles and Prince Philip were considered with equal disdain for their silence and detached attitudes. This is one of the reasons there are still so many conspiracy theories about Diana's death. I do think most of it was just due to the Queen still being so trapped in "traditions" and what's considered "protocol", because after this she did break with traditions more frequently and seemed to work a lot harder to modernize and catch up with public perception of the royals. I think she misjudged the public, and she learned from it. I think Charles probably did, too.
As usual the gutter press was taking advantage of everyone's emotions and stirring up trouble. The UK and the USA both have a *huge* problem in this regard. Charles actually took charge of the situation as his parents could not.
It was shown live on TV in the UK. I didn't intend to watch it at all but I thought I would watch for maybe 10 minutes. Eight hours later I was still watching. It was kind of mesmerising.

@@justsayin397 29.95million watched the Euro 2021 final. 26million watched the queen's funeral across all channels. Also less than Diana's funeral watchers.
I remember watching parts of the procession and what stuck with me were the people in the crowd shouting out her name in anguish and sobbing loudly when the cortège passed out of the gates of Buckingham Palace on its way to Westminster Abbey.
To this day, it’s my humble opinion, that this anger towards Elisabeth II was created by the media. The people couldn’t know, what Diana’s Death caused within the royal family.
The Queen was is a private person brought up in another era and she couldn't understand the public's mood of wearing the grief on your sleeve attitude. She did nothing wrong she was brought up in a different time, world.
That was a sad day. I had just come out of another knee surgery and was told she had died. The day of her funeral 💔 I was meant to go in for another operation but it was cancelled due to her funeral.
The funeral of Princess Diana was a very sad occasion, she buried at Althorpe House in Northamptonshire on an oval island on the lake you can visit between 1st July until 30th August no one knows where she's buried on the island only family.
The Queen for once put her family first. She was a grandmother not a Queen at that moment. Protecting her two grandsons. That is what I will always believe. As a grandmother myself now. That is what I would have done.
The Queen was actually caring for her grandchildren at Balmoral as any loving grandparent would have done. It was the selfish hysteria of some sections of the public that forced her hand. So shameful!
after being chased as she was in life, a place of solace, with those who loved her nearby, is exactly what she would have wanted, and by goodness, we owe her that at least.
I rember that. I was 17, was out with my best friend back then, Diana, and next morning my wake me up and told me. It was heavy. even here i Germany. Also the funeral was hard, specialy that Mummy note on the coffin. And Ryan if you want to know the story around this and the queens raction, ou should watch the movie : the Queen, with Helen Mirren. Its all about the queens reaction to dians death why and stuff. Of course some fiction in it, because no one knows waht the realy spoke, but the facts are there. One thing i realy liked Charles for, was that he collectet her form Paris and brought her home, even if they where allready divorced and seprated for a long time. Ok maybe he did it for is sons, or because she is the mother of his sons. I think it was a very nice thing.
Lily wreath is from spencer family it has 36 lilies one for every year of her life it's a Spencer family tradition. Yes you are allowed down by the lake but not on the island itself I've been twice beautiful resting place for her
Half mast origins: Quote: "Many historians point to a British expedition to Canada in 1612 aboard the ship Heart's Ease. The captain, James Hall, was killed by an Inuit spear, and the crew lowered the ship's flag to half-mast." Today virtually every nation on Earth uses half mast as a symbol of respect.
It's said, she is not buried on the island due to the damp ground entering the coffin, there's a chantry on Thorpe estate, it's said, she is buried there. Only the people who dug her grave know the truth. L&P from England.
Prince William and Harry were told by their father not to cry which has to be such a hard thing to do for children. ❤ I was 19 when she died and I’m 45 now and I still remember it like yesterday.
I was 22 at the time of her death, I saw Diana three times twice as she entered Grimsby in 1982 to open Grimsby General Hospital renamed after her death Diana Princess of Wales Hospital and to open something else I can’t remember and the last time in June 1991 on Horseguards Parade for Beating Retreat by the mass bands of HM Royal Marines also present were HM The Queen and Princes William and Harry. Afterwards I was stood on Horseguards Parade I looked up at the big window of the former office of The Duke of Wellington and there was the then Princess of Wales and the young Princes I waved at them and they waved back they then came past in their car and more waving protected by The Diplomatic Protection Group. After the convoy went past I then walked through arch and went out into Whitehall with The Cenotaph a short distance away I saw medical personnel with bags of plasma and other medical kit and other emergency people ambulances etc. At this time the IRA (Irish republican army) were still a big threat.
5.1 billion people worldwide, 63.2% of the world population, were the figures on the day of the Queen's funeral but that's not accounting for if a household of more than 1 person all watched it together so it's likely more and the people all across the streets.
But not on the mast at Buckingham Palace. The only other time it had happened I believe was when Churchill died. The Queen was only following convention. Unfortunately, this sticking to the rules was interpreted by the British people as lacking sympathy.
That was the royal version. Find other videos about her death, her brother's speech and the crowds' flowers. There were NO flowers to be bought in South Africa at that time.EVERY FLOWER WERE exported to England. Treat yourself and see how the Prime Minister made a public televised speech asking the queen to return to London because her people needed her in their time of mourning.
@@xhogun8578 Exactly! It disgusts me that she was pressured into leaving her shocked and grieving grandchildren because her selfish subjects needed her to prove herself to them. When I hear the fake way people go on about poor WIlliam and Harry yet had little consideration for them at the time and didn't stop to think that the queen had good reason not to return to London as she was more needed at home.
Harry and William did not request that they walk behind the coffin that was Philips idea, he later stated that it was not a good idea. For centuries we have flown the flag at half mast for certain occasions.
HI RYAN DEBRA HERE FROM SOUTH WALES when Prince Charles, then Prince of Wales (now King Charles III) married the then Lady Diana Spencer, she was 19 years old and he was 31 years old, 12 years older than Diana.
The commentator meant that it was a rare thing for the Union Jack to be flown at half mast over Buckingham Palace, not that it was rare for any flag to be flown at half mast.
greetings and love from germany. as the coffin passed the queen, the queen bowed. she never took a bow before, for no one. but for diana. sad that this fact wasnt shown in the video...stay safe, buddy
@Bluebell Flora Of course she did ? Well, it's not that self-evident. The Queen does not need to bow to anyone and that she did it for Diana nobody expected that.
@Bluebell Flora isnt so important who is right, right....😊 I found it remarkable that the Queen Diana paid her respect in that way. Who has to bow to whom and how is quite confusing anyway. Therefore... Don't mind at all.......have a peaceful day and stay safe..
The media were whipping up this hysteria with regard to the Queen. Diana was divorced and therefore the Spencer family should have been responsible for the decisions about the funeral. I am divorced and would not want my mother-in-law getting involved in my funeral!
The flag is only flown when the queen is in residence she was not but the flag flew that was the great honour and when the casket passed the queen outside Beckenham palace the queen bowed her head the only time the queen ever bowed to someone else and never done again she was the peoples princess and loved dearly
The size of Britain and its impact on the world GOOD AND BAD is massively understated these days. You all live in the world us Brits made... FACT🤷♂️🏴🇬🇧
i remember everyone being particularly angry that the Queen was absolutely silent on the death of Diana. People were camped by the gates of Buckingham palace and not a thing was said, and what was the most hurtful to the people is that the Union flag was still flying full mast. It was the first time ever that the Queen faced a real threat to the monarchy, we were all saying that she was cold and heartless for not doing anything. Eventually she came down from Balmoral and walked amongst the people and read all the cards on the flowers etc, and after, she addressed the nation in an amazing speech (you should look it up) The Queen saved the royal family at that point, if she'd not done anything and stuck to tradition and protocol, we'd probably be a republic by now, so much the anger after Diana's death God rest Diana and God rest The Queen

I have been in the presence of Diana she was even more beautiful than the camera could ever capture. Princess Diana will always b3 the Queen of Peoples hearts.💜🌹🙏💔🌹
How can accepting Camilla be rewriting Diana’s legacy, I’d be interested to hear.
@@rebeccaemery4122 Go and do your research!!!!
Over 4 billion watched the Queen’s funeral, Ryan.
No they didn't. Less people in the UK watched it than the Euro 2021 finals 😂 the estimates were way over
@@tdg6372 rubbish
@@justsayin397 29.95million watched the Euro 2021 final. 26million watched the queen's funeral across all channels. Also less than Diana's funeral watchers.
Diana's funeral had a peak audience of 31 million, the queen's was a peak audience of 37 million
@@tdg6372 I’m taking of global figures not UK figures.
I remember watching parts of the procession and what stuck with me were the people in the crowd shouting out her name in anguish and sobbing loudly when the cortège passed out of the gates of Buckingham Palace on its way to Westminster Abbey.
The cortege did not pass "out of the gates of Buckingham Palace". It passed by those gates on the way from Kensington Palace, her home.
I remember wherei was when I heard it on the radio and I went to the memorial at Central Park..
No mention of Charles Spencors speech, it was a huge kick inthe teath to the RoyalF
I was there, my son's 17th birthday... we planned to go to Oxford Street to shop and ended up at Diana's funeral, my young daughter was so sad.
5.1 billion watched the Queen's funeral according to the BBC, that's 63% of the world's population!
My eldest daughter got married on that day in the afternoon ,thankfully it all went smoothly
I still cried watching the boys. I’m her age.
The only day in my 40 years walking this earth where my country literally stood still!!!
The Peoples Princess will live forever!
William and Harry didn’t request to walk behind the coffin at all. Prince Philip pushed them to saying he’d be there with them.
Dude, that comment where you suggested "brushing up on your history" when you realized Charles was married to Diana makes me feel old.
me too
To this day, it’s my humble opinion, that this anger towards Elisabeth II was created by the media. The people couldn’t know, what Diana’s Death caused within the royal family.
The Queen was is a private person brought up in another era and she couldn't understand the public's mood of wearing the grief on your sleeve attitude. She did nothing wrong she was brought up in a different time, world.
I love your videos. Keep up the good work. ❤
That was a sad day. I had just come out of another knee surgery and was told she had died. The day of her funeral 💔 I was meant to go in for another operation but it was cancelled due to her funeral.
She was with her grandchildren while Charles went to Paris to collect Diana
The funeral of Princess Diana was a very sad occasion, she buried at Althorpe House in Northamptonshire on an oval island on the lake you can visit between 1st July until 30th August no one knows where she's buried on the island only family.
No Englishman has ever called a coffin a cascuet!
Exactly, the media didn't help either with their stupid reporting.
It was the media papers that stirred that up
Strange to think both her sons are older than Diana when she died. Sad day. Such a lonely place for her burial
after being chased as she was in life, a place of solace, with those who loved her nearby, is exactly what she would have wanted, and by goodness, we owe her that at least.
I’m amazed they didn’t shoe the amount of flowers laid for Diana.
Lily wreath is from spencer family it has 36 lilies one for every year of her life it's a Spencer family tradition. Yes you are allowed down by the lake but not on the island itself I've been twice beautiful resting place for her
You wondered how many watched the queen’s funeral Ryan, I was told the BBC said it were 5.000.000.000 people watching live or online
The Royal
the family almost lost the throne over this one as it is a constitutional monarchy
There was no one like Diana.
Harry wrote the note. The world's heart was broken to lose her. You could feel a shift in the planet's energy. She was that special.
Actually it was Prince William
Prince William and Harry were told by their father not to cry which has to be such a hard thing to do for children. ❤ I was 19 when she died and I’m 45 now and I still remember it like yesterday.
How can you possibly know this.
Princess Diana was the People's Princess........
Half mast flags have been a thing, here in UK, for eons.
Surely William and Harry needed her more!
It was media hype. Absolutely ridiculous! She was there for her grandchildren as she should.
Your realisation that King Charles was married to Diana was just just a hilarious and jawdroppingly stupid comment!
HI RYAN
DEBRA HERE FROM SOUTH WALES
when Prince Charles, then Prince of Wales (now King Charles III) married the then Lady Diana Spencer, she was 19 years old and he was 31 years old, 12 years older than Diana.
The commentator meant that it was a rare thing for the Union Jack to be flown at half mast over Buckingham Palace, not that it was rare for any flag to be flown at half mast.
Diana was murdered. Elizabeth had a hand in it. Many will never forget. Many will never forgive. Diana is in heaven....Im sure Elizabeth is not.
I remember her passing, I was 6 years old (surprisingly)
greetings and love from germany. as the coffin passed the queen, the queen bowed. she never took a bow before, for no one. but for diana. sad that this fact wasnt shown in the video...stay safe, buddy
@Bluebell Flora Of course she did ? Well, it's not that self-evident. The Queen does not need to bow to anyone and that she did it for Diana nobody expected that.
@Bluebell Flora isnt so important who is right, right....😊
I found it remarkable that the Queen Diana paid her respect in that way. Who has to bow to whom and how is quite confusing anyway. Therefore... Don't mind at all.......have a peaceful day and stay safe..
Never understood the Diana hype myself.
All these people wouldn’t show up for any royal. You need to know more about her to understand.
The media were whipping up this hysteria with regard to the Queen. Diana was divorced and therefore the Spencer family should have been responsible for the decisions about the funeral. I am divorced and would not want my mother-in-law getting involved in my funeral!
The late night Show with James Gorden and Prince Harry, its gold 🥰💗👍
Our queen of hearts this is why charles is not my king and camilla is not a queen
Eventually she came down from Balmoral and walked amongst the people and read all the cards on the flowers etc, and after, she addressed the nation in an amazing speech (you should look it up)
The Queen saved the royal family at that point, if she'd not done anything and stuck to tradition and protocol, we'd probably be a republic by now, so much the anger after Diana's death
God rest Diana and God rest The Queen
I think the Queen wanted to protect the Princes. Surrounded them with family & love. I for one was not angry with her but I know a lot were
Good summary of how it played out.
They killed her.
No doubt about it
Not everyone was angry, just the thick mindless people that the media swayed.
@@xhogun8578 Erm, thanks for the thinly veiled insult.
