Just started Elden Ring and was rocking the classic Knight set until I saw what the Carian Knight set looked like, gonna see how this weapon combo fairs against the rest of the game.
I think the implication behind "excels when facing magic and holy attacks" is that the Carian Knights were (at any point) prepared to fend off the Academy just as much as the Erdtree. Lots of other item descriptions hint that the Carians were preparing for full-blown war with the Academy, before Rennala went mad and got put in time-out forever
I believe the second grandeur on the fire giant actually hit his body before his ankle, and that's why it did less damage. You can kinda see it make contact
Yeah I’m with you. I’ve never felt like I needed dex in any of my spellcaster builds and those are the overwhelming majority of my runs. It’s definitely a nice luxury, but hardly necessary. Either way though, casting speed being tied to dex is silly; it’s one of the few things ds2 got right. Casting speed is just tied to the “mind” equivalent stat, and they also had weapon catalysts.

@@cake2531 The original comment is kinda necessary because way too many content creators dismiss magic completely. There are multiple reasons for this. The biggest reason most content creators don't use magic is likely because it just takes an extra step to use compared to just a melee weapon. Melee weapons are simple and effective and that is fine. I don't blame content creators for it because they also have to entertain and moderate chat while playing. But for information's sake, spells are just as effective but not simple. There are a lot reasons why spells are dismissed when people talk about viability 1) The prevailing notion that Dex is mandatory - which it isn't. 2) Except for specifically a bleed + frost weapon, spells are just as viable as weapons but you need to understand enemy weaknesses to make it useful 3) People don't use Spirit Ashes. If you're a pure caster, just get the Crystallian Ashes, and just demolish everything. Or just use any Spirit Ash. 4) People don't use the Endure Ash of War which helps prevent getting interrupted With regards to requirements and such - weapons are usually heavy, if you want to trade with enemies, then you need poise which means either using a talisman slot or putting a lot of points in Endurance, or sometimes both if you want to go for the big weapons and armor, and still mid roll. As for needing to max out stats, you need to do the same for weapons too to get the big numbers. The basic Catch Flame incantation, Glintstone pebble, and Glintblade are all really strong with just starting stats. The only true downside to spells vs melee, is that Spells use FP which need to be replenished, while Melee only uses stamina which auto-infinitely replenishes. I have tried pure caster runs, and personally, I never had an issue with running out of FP because most of your flasks should be Blue because you are a ranged character that should not be getting hit. Of course, all of this is for PvE. I don't personally engage in PvP so I don't know how things are there. If this still has not convinced you, then just try a pure caster build. If anything, it is an excuse to play a game I assume you like considering you're watching this video.
This is why DS2 still has the best magic system. Attunement gives you spell slots AND increases your spellcasting speed (even raises your agility for more s and even slightly raises your HP). There's +2 version of faster casting ring. There's 4 different magic types including hexes. Theres spices that let you cast a spell at lower requirements. You don't need a blue flask so you can have as much healing as melee builds. There are herbs that let you replenish your magic if you run out mid level or boss fight. You can infuse your staff (even twinkling titanite ones) with the element you're using for more damage. There are a few weapons that can cast spells (not as good as a staff, but they're fun). The staffs can actually hit for decent damage if you need to finish of an enemy or break through something. Then again i haven't tried magic or staff bonks so i don't know if they work. You have a raw infused you can use on a back melee weapon for pure physical damage. Sure its not as good as scaling, but it's better than nothing. That's all i can think of for now, im sure there's more. ER magic is pretty good, way better than DS3. But its still lacking compared to DS2. Hopefully the dlc will add some fun stuff to it. I think thematically carian retaliation is the parryest parry because it makes glint blades which are the stance damage champion for magic builds. Even when you aren't putting them into a crot directly your building stance pressure and that's very on point
For the Carian shield, I’m pretty sure the lot about having good magic resistance is because they were fighting the Cuckoos as well as the Golden Order

You can absolutely sauce moongram with bloodhound a bloodhounds finesse combo, the first attack moves faster than his first attack so you just bait it out start the combo which breaks his stance and then the second half kills him. Even if it’s not upgraded enough for a two shot you can just rinse and repeat baiting him to attack

Big-ass swords are always fun. I'd love to see Secret Starting Class Fire Prelate. I know you love big hammers, and this is a big hammer so big it's colossal, and also sometimes on fire.
It isn't super useful to know now, but the carian retaliation can block the blood mohg throws at you. Not the most useful, but the extra swords can be helpful to break his stance. Loved the video, can't wait to see the next run!

7:25 I'm gonna pretend that was your response to my request on the morgott run
It wasn't, I have no idea what you're talking about
@@tulokthebarbrarian2033 a guy can dream
I find it funny that, he askes for a weapon catalyst for spells and... we got one! with the Carian Scorcery Sword!
Actually, this is one of the closest to being a true secret starting class since it was in the beta test.
ad transfer was unreal
25:20 I think I have an answer.
That answer being: “Long hitbox is long, and you hit part of the Fire Giant that has higher damage resistance”
Love this game, but it can be really janky.
4:30 huh? it literally just said they served her? what are you talking about?
You can absolutely sauce moongram with bloodhound a bloodhounds finesse combo, the first attack moves faster than his first attack so you just bait it out start the combo which breaks his stance and then the second half kills him. Even if it’s not upgraded enough for a two shot you can just rinse and repeat baiting him to attack
i'm moongrum, this is link, and i'm here to find out "CAN YOU PARRY THAT? ... in teeears of he kingdom :)"
Last Surprise in Fort Haight? Lookin cool, Tulok!
Me after eating a crit stabb from Moongrum: thy mother is a swine and this is just a scratch.
Me internally: SINCE WHEN CARIAN SLICER CAN BE PARRIED?! the more yoooouch my intestines!
Wait- SLICER can be parried?
@@tulokthebarbrarian2033 yep, I was in absolute shock, idk if you can do the same with piercer but slicer can absolutely be parryed, I tested it twice so far.
I can’t wait to see some DLC challenge runs and builds!
It should be pretty fun!
If it makes you feel better, the sword the new NPC is holding in the DLC tweets is modelled like a holy version of Blue Flame. I'm hoping it's a weapon catalyst.
23:54 The only parent who truly loves you is JEEEEEEEEEZUZ
I rewatch this every so often and I think it might just be for the "get down" setup and payoff.
callinga parry the "No you Button" is peak
Big-ass swords are always fun. I'd love to see Secret Starting Class Fire Prelate. I know you love big hammers, and this is a big hammer so big it's colossal, and also sometimes on fire.
It isn't super useful to know now, but the carian retaliation can block the blood mohg throws at you. Not the most useful, but the extra swords can be helpful to break his stance. Loved the video, can't wait to see the next run!
Back in my age, Tarnished would use the spells just cause they looked cool.
... and walked 15 miles thru the snow barefoot (etc.), and we LIKED IT!
I have heard somewhere that Malenia actually does have a kibd if revenge mechanic. I heard that if she takes too much damage in a certain time interval, she is very likely to ducky dance whoever caused that damage
That song at the beginning was a 2012 flashbang
Good idea would be to use beast champion set, use a claymore with grandeur instead, and go all into int and strength
I miss when carian retaliation scaled with weapon level, that was a fun build
Insane square space segue on this one man
Love your videos bro
