My mistake was only using a wide tooth comb. It did not offer a thorough detangle. My detangling sessions were so long because of all the knots left from the previous session. In addition, I was using the wrong products for my hair. You have helped so much. I purchased both of those tools upon your recommendation. I use them both. Now I have nice short sessions.
Biggest mistake I was making was not detangling before washing and being careful to keep stretched while washing. I was causing tangles while washing. The way you finger detangle is basically how I had to do while combing out my dreadlocks. So funny that I forgot about that when I got into regular maintenance routines. I have been finger combing and then only actually finger detangling when I get to a resistant knot. Going through with the separating start to finish is a much better idea. Thanks again for everything you do.
@@neicycombs3533 I just keep pulling down only at every point in the process. No other direction, and always moving all the way down to the ends. (That's after having finger detangled before the first rinse, so that the ends are already not tangled.) The water is always pulling the hair down, so just working with it.
My mistake was not being patient when detangling. Im still guilty (sometimes) of just cutting the knots out but I’m getting better with slowly working them out instead.
My biggest mistake earlier in my journey, was definitely not cleansing properly. The minute I started actually cleansing my hair, instead of trying to always keep my hair “moisturized”, the more my conditioners were able to deposit onto my strands! Which allowed my finger/brush to just glide! I do remember your demo on the Felicia leatherwood brush, but I did want to ask you why you feel the tangle buster better?
Thanks for the finger detangling tips. I've been dealing with alot of breakage and I think incorrect detangling may be the cause. I'm gonna try your approach. I feel I'm using the right types of products on my hair with a nice mix of Strengthing and Moisturizing ingredients.
Excellent presentation!!! I agree this is a big issue! Love your demonstration of detangling both with a tool and without. Sometimes I will pick to release instead of introducing the tool under the tangle. Thank you for this.
Thanks for all your detailed detangling videos, my daughter is three with waist length hair and your one of the main influencers that taught me proper detangling methods and so many tips that has allowed her to retain her length
Great tips on finger detangling. I was definitely seeing small ringlets that I now know was broken off hair. Plan to try your method and hopefully my hair will be happy.
A love 4 me: Please share with us how you keep your ends so healthy! I keep mine trimmed and oiled. I also wear twist and protect my hair at night. But I wear my hair out most of the time. Please share anymore tips you have! Type 4c kinky hair loves to tangle and knot on the ends. Thanks
I think that I did not understand what it meant to "finger detangle." I was not doing anything like what you demonstrated. Smh. Oh well! I will do better now that I know better. Thank you for makiing this very helpful video.
I use a 'harping' method similar to what you demonstrated. It does an amazing job of getting shed hair/knots out so by the time I use my tool, I get very little resistance and very little breakage. Do you no longer use the Felicia Leatherwood brush? How does the Tangle Buster compare to the FL? The design looks similar.
Honestly my biggest detangling mistake was not detangling before shampooing. Some shampoos make ie easy to detangle your hair but most dont and can cause more tangles. I pre poo before i wash my hair the night before wash day and twist it up. It makes wash day so much easier
My daughter has fine low density that webs at the roots. I work in sections, wash in twists, use detanglers and conditioners that have slip and I'm patient and gentle but not seem to work preventing breakage. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
My biggest problem with detangling is the one I create when I'm really not feeling like doing my routine but start if anyway. It doesn't happen often, but it's a nightmare when it does.🤬 🤣 🤣
Yeah I 100% detangle wrong between you and Narada I’ve learned that I totally F up my hair. It’s long but broken because of bad detangling practices. I now only do my hair when I have time if I have to rush then I just don’t do it.
Seems you detangle after washing or do you detangle before and necessarily after as well ? I detangle before, then minimally in the shower. The pink brush resembles the popular one seen regularly on line, which I ordered and returned after 2 washes. Perhaps you can demonstrate how you use it., i.e. held vertical or horizontal ? I am tempted to get the blue brush. Thank you for sharing.
I usually wash my hair in the sink because I feel like in the shower uses too much water and I HATE getting out to deep condition and then getting back in the shower. My question is does washing in the sink cause more tangles? I tried washing in twist but it comes a loose.
I'd like to see you give advice for extremely matted hair. I'm certain your advice would have to be adapted. Like your hair isn't even really tangled lol I also notice you start at the root. Many people would say to do the opposite little by little towards the root.
Sent you a message 13 days ago starting as...."Seems you detangle after washing...." Perhaps my question was overlooked. Having said this, I agree with the lifting process and I detangle prior to washing on damp hair. Whatever works for the individual. Respectfully, I am pondering on what qualifies one as an expert and charge $40.00 for your Master Class. How would I know if it is a good investment? All The Best.
I had no idea I was detangling my hair wrong. Thank you for showing us how to finger detangle properly. So glad i found your channel!
Thanks for watching!
The finger detangling demo was great! I was raking through so looking forward to trying your technique instead. Thank you as always!
Let me know your results!
The biggest thing I learned is never detangle on dry hair or when your in a bad mood. Emulsify, condition and water are key for me. :D
Such a club combo

How do you keep your hair stretched while washing…tangles during washing is a MEGA problem with me

I feel that the FL isn’t flexible enough so it rips out tangles
@@ALove4Me gotcha thanks for the response

My mom definitely doesn’t
Thanks for explaining

No problem

I don’t like the FL brush for detangling
What is the “Harping method “ please?
I wait until after I deep condition with heat to detangle. Then I go in with my big paddle brush the denman D38.
I enjoy using that brush too!
I just got all the Kazmalaje tools for BF. I was surprised by the weight of the tools!
It’s hefty for sure

Would like to join your January detangling workshop.
It closed early this year

wash in twists, use detanglers and conditioners that have slip and I'm patient and gentle but not seem to work preventing breakage. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I would suggest the use of more balancing conditioners as webbing is often a result of dehydrated hair or hair that left in protective styles too long
@@ALove4Me I don't keep her hair in protective style for long but I'll definitely look into a more balanced conditioner. Thanks

There are demos to me using both brushes in the description box

Probably does. If I washed my hair in the sink, I would put it in twists so the multiple directions you naturally move your hair doesn't cause tangles
Mistake just ripping through my hair bone dry 🤦🏾♀️
I think many of us have been there
Great tips..thank you 🥰
Thanks for watching
You would think I would know the answer to this question but is this the same as pre pooing the night before in a sense?
Yes
Not using a paddle brush was my mistake.
They do make things quicker
So good!👍🏽
