My biggest mistake was waiting way too long for wash day and waiting too long to trim. I thought going natural meant I didn’t have to do much of anything.

My mistakes were not detangling my hair properly, trying to make products work for my hair and not reading the labels. Thanks to you, I have learned so much on my 4 year natural hair journey. This was a great video.

Thinking that my hair couldn’t do a style. It’s just that the way a wash and go (or any style) looks on me is different than it will look on Achia or Whitney or Alexis or any of the other hair youtubers.

My biggest mistake is being a product junkie! I am recovering but I still like using different products! I am getting better with the wash and go, I just can’t get used to my hair having to be soaking wet! It can be so messy!

Great video! So many good points!
My biggest mistake was just doing the most after I big chopped. I had 2 inches of hair and wash day took 1/2 the day. No more! I just wash, condition and style. I do deep condition when my hair needs it and same with clarifying. Just like you said. No schedule. Just listening to my hair.

My biggest mistake was not loving my type 4 hair. For a long time the “natural” hair game was low key trying to get it to look like type 3 hair with twists and braids.
I find that wash n gos are liberating af and when you master them anyone can do their hair in less than an hour and be okay with it.
The thought of wearing a dirty twist out of 3 weeks is just nuts to me now and sometimes I want to scream from the rooftops that people who crap on wash and gos either hate Type 4 hair or don’t realize they had a curl pattern that they’re messing up with build up and tension.

I've been natural for about 6 yrs and I've never mastered the wash n go. They usually turn out nicely on day 1 and then never again cause I don't know how to sleep in them. I've tried the pineapple technique and it DOES preserve the top curls, but the bottom of my fro ends up in a weird shape and refuses to lay flat lol. My go to's are headscarves and bonnets on top of 4-8 med/large braids :)

    Biggest mistakes:
not doing my hair enough. I get way less tangles and breakage if I just hop in the shower 2x/week. Even stretching it to a week means I’m detangling for over an hour.
Not trimming enough. I used to go forever without trimming, my hair would be long but my ends were so bad I just cut them off. Now I dust monthly

Another great and in depth video regarding mistakes we all have made during our hair journeys. The most damaging mistakes I have made over the past eight years of being natural were using products and/or techniques influencers recommended. Coconut oil and henna, both did long lasting and monumental damage to my fine high porosity hair. The worse thing was, I continued to use/do both, far too long...😜

One of the many lessons I had to learn was the importance of deep conditioners. My hair was always dry which made me think the styling products weren't working. After I started incorporating deep conditioner, I noticed a huge change in my hair.

Never any mistakes here. I live in the DC/MD area, so I’m SO lucky to have a few black curly expert stylists in the area. My initial big chop was with one who taught me proper technique & appropriate products for my hair. Have now moved on to a new stylist, but have never had any damage or regrets. Hair has always looked great & been healthy. Regular professions trims & all I’ve ever worn is wash & go’s. So healthy in fact that I’ve had her bleach it blonde this year (which she would have never done if it wasn’t in great shape to start) & it’s still just as healthy. And that’s with super fine strands (width of my strands - stylist says i have some of the thinnest strands she’s ever seen, but they’re in fine health, even with the bleach). Thinking I’ll probably be blonde for the rest of my life, lol. So happy that I started with a stylist, and never had to do the trial & error. But I know that not everyone can afford that (not cheap!), or doesn’t have access to great stylists.

My biggest mistake was not knowing how to comb my hair when I was transitioning yrs. ago, I ripped out so much of my hair not understanding that I could not continue to treat my hair the way I did when I was relaxed. My hair is flourishing now, but this is still a learning experience and quite a wonderful journey.

I made several mistakes but the biggest one was crocheting! It dried out my hair like a dry-crunchy leaf and ⅓ of my hair came out every time I did it!
I agree; my hooded dryer is a gamechanger

    • @uberhaute_naturalz84
      @uberhaute_naturalz84 3 роки тому +1

@Trinity M I tell you, it was beyond shed hair. ⅓ of my hair came out (every time I install a crochet), my scalp was always dry, tender, itchy and sore!
My scalp would be as if hot charcoal and live worms are on it!
My hair would be as dry as the desert and break like a dry stick.
Eventually, I discovered that my scalp hates being neglected for a long time therefore, I changed my styling routine to a weekly basis.
I stopped any hairstyle that would be too tight or won't allow me to wash my hair every 7 days.
My scalp has been more than grateful ever since.

As always, great info! I purchased Curlsmith in shower style fixer and the 1st time, it was horrible. I didn't give up and when I found the best way to use it for my hair, it was 🔥. The point, as you say, try a product various ways before you decide that you don't like it.

I agree with you about just responding to your hair. I once followed my regimen with some products that usually have the same outcome everytime I use them. That week my hair didn't like it and was super dry afterwards. I assumed the products changed. But really my hair needed a little extra that week. It was fine after I moisturized it mid week with an aloe juice/water mixture and my normal moisturizer. And my next wash day was fine. She just wanted a little extra that week.

I’ve been natural for 6 years and I’m just now learning. I wasn’t washing my hair properly.
I felt none the products worked because my hair constantly dried out or turned white.
I went back to grease and Shea butter. I’m now doing the hair detox trend and I’m loving it. ✨💕✨

    Biggest mistakes:
    1. Getting color
    2. Using hair grease
    3. Using products, for multiple years, that were not the best for my hair. (I thought it was my hair that was a problem 🤷🏽‍♀️)
It took my negative experience with color to get me to seek and find products that worked.

    My biggest hair mistakes were:
    1. colouring my hair myself & even going to professional salons for colour, but not giving my hair the extra TLC moisture & protein balance it needed
    2. not protecting my hair enough during harsh winters
    3. not realizing early enough that what you put in your body affects the health of your hair (hydration, nourishment, medication)
Thankfully I know better now :)

  • @imac4082

    Let's see, top mistakes? 🤔
    1. Coconut oil! My hair does not like it at all. When I was introduced to the UA-cam in 2015, all the naturalistas were into coconut oil and raw Shea butter. Big mistake for me, my hair was soooooooo dry.
    2. Stretching wash day to 2+ weeks, again, my hair and scalp be crying. I cannot do that no matter how many other people can, I need my weekly or biweekly wash day.
    3. Trying trends. I like to try new things but my hair doesn't 🙄🙄🙄. I keep trying to make rice water like me, and it does not.
I still haven't figured out how to detangle in under an hour without ripping my hair from the roots . . . I like the Kareco brush for blowouts, but damp/wet hair + tools=breakage. Next thing I want to try is that Kazmaleje brush, but so far fingers are the only way I don't end up with baseball sized "shed" hair.

    My Biggest Mistakes:
1 thru 10 and "I just didn't know what the hell i was doing", raised my hand high as hell 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣.
Right about now i feel like crying, i feel bald headed since my hair broke off in the front, and i refuse to wear a short twist out. I have High Porosity Hair and after one year of being Natural and not really any hair growth i've finally given up on this natural hair journey though i would've Luv to stay because i Luv Volume. It's become so overwhelming. I think i have Protein Overload because that is when i noticed the big change and breakage in my hair but mostly in the front. If i were into weaves and wigs i would have someone hair in my head right now LMAO 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 and i don't want to go back to crochet braids. I just want my long hair back when it was more easy to care for.
    STAY SAFE EVERYONE. GOD BLESS.
