How can a species that produces such sublime music, so sublimely played and recorded, be so flawed? Thank you for posting this amazing recording from Tatiana Nikolayeva. A superb pianist. At least she was allowed to tour! I was fortunate to her see play Shostakovich's complete preludes and fugues live in Chicago in 1992. She was one of the finest ever.
One of most musically thoughtful renditions, if not the most. The dynamics she put in the Gigue is amazing, versus the performances from the modern players like Hewitt and Schiff. They may have better technique and more exciting tempo but her performance here really gave clearer understanding and insight. It proves again faster tempo is not always everything.

Breathtaking performance. My favorite from the entire set!

JS Bach loves this woman. Her oranaments, for example, are suberb where a lot of moderns have no business playing them at all.
